Gundam Wing Fan Fiction / Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ The Search for Happiness ❯ First Day of School ( Chapter 8 )
I woke up early the next morning to the sound of my alarm clock. Rubbing away the sleep from my eyes, I had to take a good look at my surroundings before I realized where I was. I got dressed in my new uniform and brushed out my hair, then looked at myself in a full-length mirror. It was different. Standing out in the crowd didn't bother me. I'm like Heero, dedicated to my mission, and I won't let anything stand in my way. Taking my handbag I went out the door and found the other girls standing and talking.
"Hello, Rei-san," said Ami.
"We were waiting for you," said Minako.
"Why were you waiting for me?" I asked.
"We wanted to walk to class together," said Makoto.
"Oh. Well, I guess so."
"So where do we go?" Usagi asked.
"I know," said Ami. "Follow me."
We went out of the building and into the school. The hallways were empty with the exception of us five. Either the students here are amazingly punctual, or I slept in about a century or two. Shaking my head I concluded that that was completely impossible...well maybe not entirely impossible for Usagi anyways. We walked until Ami found one of the teachers, named Ms. H.
"Hello, girls," she said. "Right on time."
She led us into a huge auditorium. It was the classroom I guess because there were a huge amount of kids here, seated from the front of the room to up the stairs. They were of different age groups so the guys were here as well. I guess they teach everyone at the same time. The guy's uniforms were white shirts, black ties, pants, and shoes. Everyone was staring at the uniform that I had on.
"Everyone please listen!" said Ms. H. "These are five more new students. Please welcome Minako, Usagi, Ami, Makoto, and Rei."
"The name is Rei-san," I corrected.
"I'm sorry, Rei-san. Would you girls take a seat?"
We had to climb some stairs to get to our desks. I had to sit next to a 19 year-old boy with long white hair. His bangs were long and over his light blue crystaline eyes. Once I sat down and he smiled at me in greeting. I completely ignored him, feeling a strange aoura around him. Something not right.
Class was all right I suppose. Not like I really cared about any of the subjects. Like the other pilots, school was optional. I'm only going for my mission. It was finally the lunch bell, and I packed my handbag. As I was leaving, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
A deep, chilling voice said, "Hello, Rei."
I shrugged off the hand and saw it was the 19 year-old boy.
"You have no right to address me so informally when we haven't been proporly intruduced. You may call me Rei-san Hino. Use it, boy."
"And you, my dear, have no right to call me `boy'. My name is Miliardo Peacecraft." Suprisingly, that bone-chilling voice was completely oposite from the warm smile he then showed me. How can one be that way?
"No one has dared talked to me like that," I said. "You are the first; also the last."
"Why is that? Are people afraid of you?"
"Maybe. Maybe it's respect. You be the judge. Are you afraid of me, Miliardo?"
"No. I give you respect."
"Good. We should be getting along fine then. Now since you hold me in such respect, you should show it by allowing me to take my leave." With that said I swiftly walked out of the auditorium. When all was clear I made a sigh of relief. What a strange person he was! Not at all like anyone I've ever met before. This fact proved true when I realized he was no walking beside me.
"Nice uniform," he said.
"Is there something you want?" I asked crossly.
"All I want is to walk you to the lunchroom."
"Fine."
We walked there in silence. Every now and then I'd look up at him. The fact couldn't be kept hidden that he was indeed handsome. However, I was confused that despite my rudeness he wanted to remain with me. Gee, I wonder why he wants to. The fact was a no brainer and that made me more nervous and yet more convinced that something was different about him. When we got inside I sat at one of the tables. This wasn't a cafeteria, it was a cafe. Miliardo took a seat in front of me.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Joining you for lunch," he replied calmly.
"It was a `walk you to lunch'! Not an `also eating with you'!"
"There are no other seats, my dear, so I can't sit anywhere else."
"Well, Okay. And stop calling me `my dear'. Why do you do that?"
"I apologize Rei-san." He paused for a moment, sipping a glass of water. "Rei-san, I know this may seem a bit too sudden being that we just met but a moment ago. However I don't doubt that what I'm about to ask you is the wrong thing. I would like to have the chance to know you better, if that's all right with you."
I choked on my water and gasped, "Excuse me?!"
"I sense something special about you. I want to know what it is. I assure you it's more than your entriguing character and beauty that has caught my attention."
"Don't flatter yourself Miliardo! Hasn't it been plainly obvious that I've been trying to get rid of you!? I'm sorry if I couldn't put the facts in more general terms, but you just don't seem to be getting the point so therefore I have no choice."
"Well, I can assure you your method isn't working. The more you do this the more I am intrigued and the more I must be with you."
As he spoke he placed his hand on mine. For some reason I couldn't shrug it off. My heart just stopped along with all other thought for reasoning. For some strange and impossible reason he had feelings for me. And as crazy as this might sound, perhaps I did too. A girl couldn't help it! He was the typical tall dark and handsome type that was so mysterious that any girl would dream of having him sweep you off your feet. But I already have feelings for Trowa so that completely... my god, did I just think that?
"Rei-san? Are you all right?"
I was drifting into space and I said, "Uh, yeah, I'm fine. I've got to go now." With that I grabbed my handbag and got up to leave.
However he grabbed my arm and asked, "Why?"
I looked at him, his blue eyes. How strange they were. They were so crystal clear and amazing that I could just get lost in them completely, within his eyes and in his touch. I realized I was blushing, so I turned away.
He laughed lightly and said, "No need to be afraid."
That was it, that was enough to finally get my barings and my sense back. "Afraid? What could I possibly be afraid of? I'm sorry Miliardo, but you are mistaken if you think that just because you flash those pretty-boy eyes and say something romantic or other that you can claim me." I pushed him away and left.
What was wrong with me? Why did I blush in front of him? He's so kind, though. Him and Trowa. No! I can't think like this! My mission is the only thing that should take priority in my mind! Anything else is a distraction and clearly, Miliardo is that distraction. Perhaps I should follow Heero's example and use his method of "removing all obstacles." Oh, if it were only that simple! Heading back to class I ran into the other girls.
"How's it going, Rei-san?" asked Minako.
"It's going," I said.
"Hey, who was that gorgeous guy you were talking to?" asked Makoto. "He looks like he's very into you!"
"So I've noticed. What's it to you?"
"Nothing, but won't Trowa get jealous?" asked Usagi.
"What do you mean jealous?" I asked.
"Don't play dumb with me! Trowa is gonna get steamed that you're with another guy!"
"Miliardo is just a guy I'm trying to get off my back."
"Is it working?" Ami asked.
"No. The more I push him away, the more persistent he gets. There's something about him that puzzles me. I'll have to be careful around him."
"What do you mean?" asked Minako.
"I don't know. He just...I feel wierd vibes from him."
We all walked back to class. As I climbed the stairs, back to my desk, Trowa came over.
"Hey Rei. How's it going?"
"Oh, hey Trowa," I greeted with a smile. "Nice uniform."
"Thanks. What about your uniform?"
"There were no more of the regular ones, but that's okay because I like this one better."
"I like it too."
"Aww come on Trowa. You're only saying that because guys like girls in mini-skirts."
"Not true. I really do like it. It's different."
"That's exactly what I thought when I put it on this morning."
"Well, I'd better be going. See you later," he said. He bent down and whispered in my ear, "Catrina." I was stunned that he would say my name, especially in front of others. He brushed the hair from my face almost carresing me, smiled, and left. I was still in shock. His touch...it felt so warm. I could still feel his warm breath on my ear from his whisper. Oh Trowa...oh god I gotta get some more training to get my mind off this and onto more important issues!!
Miliardo then had to come and bother me again. He sat at his desk and was about to speak to me, but Ms. H. had walked in and started class. I let out a sigh of relief. As soon as she had everyone in the classroom settled, she had an announcement.
"Everyone! Listen! In a few weeks, about this time, we'll be having a dance party. And since it is a `dance' party, you'll all be learning ballroom dancing. You teacher will be this gentleman here, Mr. K."
Mr. K. was a middle-aged man with sandy-brown hair, blue eyes, and eyebrows that forked-out on ends. I thought, for a moment, that he was looking at me, but he was looking at Miliardo. Did they know eachother? It appeared they had some sort of connection.
"Good afternoon, students," he said. "I'm looking forward to be teaching you all professional ballroom dancing. I've posted the schedules of each of your lessons. Not all of you will be together at once. Any questions?"
Usagi raised her hand and asked, "How are we supposed to be professional ballroom dancers in like, a few weeks?"
"It'll be very simple to learn. You'll also be taking few hour lessons on weekends. Any more questions?" No one said anything, so he turned and left.
Class continued as normal. After school, me and the girls looked at the posted schedules. My first lesson was at 4:00 P.M. today.
"Who's in our group?" Minako asked.
"It's you, me, Reisan, Ami, Usagi, and the guys," said Makoto.
"Cool! We're all together!" Usagi exclaimed.
"Oh no," I muttered.
"What is it?" Ami asked.
"Miliardo is also in our group."
"Why is that a problem?" Minako asked.
"Yeah, he seems like a nice guy," Makoto said.
"He is nice," I said, "but he likes me."
"So?" Ami asked. "Don't you like him?"
"No!"
"Trowa will be jealous! That you like another guy instead of him!"
"Shut up Usagi! We're only friends! Besides, I don't have time to have a boyfriend. Not to mention the fact that I don't want one."
"Whatever."
I glared at her. I was just about ready to yank out those meatballs on her head. Turning to leave I went back to my dorm. As soon as I got in, I grabbed my laptop, sat on the bed, and switched it on.
"I wonder if I have my mission yet."
"Patience, Rei-san. You'll have it soon."
"Hello, Dr. J."
"Hello Rei-san. How was school?"
"Ehh. It was school."
"I know you want your first mission now, but you must be patient with me."
"I understand Doctor."
"Good. While you wait, you can look up information on our enemy and their mobile suits. First, do your homework."
"Thanks for the tip. Well, I've got a ballroom dance class to go to. Later!"
"Good luck." His image disappeared off the screen. I would see to the enemy information tonight.
I walked out of the dorm building, and to the music room. As I came in, the room was empty. I'm always the first one to be anywhere. The room was huge, plenty of room for dancing. I was looking forward to my lesson. Except for one thing: Miliardo. He is `a fine gentleman' but I won't get too involved.
"Ahh, so I see you're here." I turned to see Mr. K. walking in. "What is your name?"
"My name is Rei-san Hino."
"Nice to meet you, Rei."
"I said, Rei-san. Only friends call me Rei."
"No need to be hostile, child." You could tell he was a bit angry, but he didn't show it. Instead, he just smiled. Something is definitely wrong with this guy. Then Miliardo walked in.
"Ah, Miliardo. So nice to see you," he greeted.
"Likewise."
Now I'm convinced that they know eachother. But how?
"Hello Rei-san."
"Hello Miliardo," I said nervously.
Mr. K. smiled and said, "Since you two are aquatinted, I'm sure you wouldn't mind demonstrating a dance for the class."
My eyes opened wide as Miliardo said, "It would be a pleasure."
Mr. K. could sense Miliardo's liking me and he smiled once more at me, as if he was approving of the match. I smiled weakly in return. Then, the others walked in.
"Hi, Rei. You're here early," said Quatre.
"Hi. I'm always early."
The lesson began. Mr. K. went to a tape player and set the music.
"First off," he said, "we'll be learning to waltz."
"Uh, waltz? I don't waltz," said Usagi.
"Well, you will now. To demonstrate for us will be Miliardo and Rei-san."
Trowa was standing next to me and whispered, "You have to dance with him?"
"I had no choice," I whispered back.
I went over to where Miliardo was waiting for me. Mr. K. then turned on the music. Miliardo bowed while I curtsied. No sooner had he taken me within his arms did he begin to send me in a series of spins and turns. Around the room he led me and for a moment I felt as if I was just gliding accross the floor efortlessly. He looked down at me with his light, blue eyes that were so calm of which I became calm myself. He wasn't as bad as I thought. When the music was over, he bowed once more and I curtsied. Everyone clapped.
I suppose he sensed my nervousness, so he whispered, "Now that wasn't so bad, now, was it?"
"No it wasn't," I admitted.
"Very well done," complimented Mr. K.
We then paired off. Usagi went with Heero, Minako with Duo, Makoto with Quatre, and Ami with Wufei. Trowa had no one to dance with so I left a reluctant Miliardo, and went over to him.
"Hey there," I said. "You want to dance?"
"That would be great," he said.
We all danced very well, and Mr. K. was pleased. Dancing with Trowa was different than dancing with Miliardo. Trowa did the same steps and all, but I felt different. This was the first time I've held his hand. I looked up at him, his green eyes sparkling just as I've always remembered. He smiled down at me and squeezed my hand a bit. I smiled back at him and looked down because I knew I was blushing. Dammit why did I have to blush all the time? If this keeps up my face will be red perminently.
"That's all for today," Mr. K. declared. We all left the room.
"That was great, Rei," Trowa said.
"Yes, I know. That was fun."
"Well, I'll be seeing you."
"Yeah, see you later. Bye you guys!"
"Bye Rei!" the boys called.
"Well, that was exciting," replied Ami.
"Yup. I can't wait until next time," said Minako.
I left the chatting girls and went to my dorm. For my dinner, I wasn't hungry, so I just had a sandwich. I was exhausted from the day, so I went to bed early that night. My last thoughts were of dancing with Trowa and how good it felt to be in his arms. It was just...so right. I couldn't explain it, and I knew...I knew that I couldn't keep this up anymore. My heart was turning traitor to me, and if this kept up I knew that sooner or later I would regret this. Suppressing the matter is the only thing I can do in order to protect everyone.
