Gundam Wing Fan Fiction / Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ The Search for Happiness ❯ An Awkward Visit & The First Battle ( Chapter 9 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Well, it's been a while hasn't it? Guess I got too caught up in my other fanfics to update this one. My apologies! Plus I had a virus on my computer and I just got it back yesterday so sorry it took so long.

DISCLAIMOR: I OWN NOTHING, FEAR NOTHING, SO YOU CAN'T SUE ME.

-------------------------------

A few days later I was in my dorm looking up information on the enemy. It was after school and I had already had my dancing lesson, so I had plenty of time. First off, I checked out a guy named Colonel Zechs Merquise. A picture of him appeared on the screen, and I immediately noticed he was wearing a mask. Probably he's got a scar on his face or something. His mobile suit is called Tall Geese, and he's also known as the `Lightning Count.' I was looking up more information about this guy and his mobile suit. The more I know, the better. I was interrupted by a knock on the door. I quickly turned off my computer, and hid it under my pillow.

"Come in!" I called. The door swung open and a tall dark figure was standing in the doorway.

"Uh, may I help you?" I asked nervously.

"Rei-san, it's me."

"Miliardo?"

"Yes. Why is it so dark in here?"

"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't realize the lights were off!" I ran up to switch on the lights and knocked my arm hard on the corner of a table. "Aw dammit!" I managed to turn the lights on without hurting myself again.

Miliardo was looking at me puzzled and asked, "Are you all right?"

"Oh sure," I said as I held my arm. "Why don't you come in?"

We sat down on the chairs next to the window.

"Miliardo, couldn't you be in trouble for being here?"

"I suppose I could."

"Then what are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you."

"Oh." I was still holding my arm.

Miliardo got concerned and said, "Let me see your arm." He took my hand and gently probbed my arm with his fingers. I winced a little.

"Sorry," he said. He got some ice, and put it in a paper towel. He then gave it to me.

"Thank you," I said. He sat back in his chair and we were silent for a while.

"Rei-san, there's another reason why I wanted to see you."

"Uh, really? What is it?"

"I wanted to give you this." He handed me a box. I opened it, and there was a silver and diamond bracelet. The diamonds were quite small, but were still beautiful and radiant.

"Oh, Miliardo," I said as I looked at it with awe. He took it out and put it around my wrist. It glistened in the light.

"Do you like it?" he asked.

"Miliardo, I love it! It's beautiful."

"I'm glad you like it." He took my hand. "Rei-san, just to let you know I'll always be here for you. No matter what."

I looked at him, eyes filled with amazement. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. And was it me, or was he suddenly getting closer and closer to me? Just in time, before he could kiss me, I turned my head so he kissed my cheek instead. I looked down because I knew I was turning a deep scarlet. I finally looked up at him.

"Maybe you should go now," I said.

"Yeah, you're right. I'll see you around."

He left, but I was still not quite realizing what had just happened. He had just tried to...to...my god! What am I to do? I must not let myself fall in love with him, or Trowa. I can't afford to do that. I looked at the bracelet; a token of Miliardo's affection.

"What am I to do? I can't hold out like this much longer. I can't take it anymore!" I slammed my fist on the wall, and the walls shook a bit. I sat back on the bed when I heard a knock on the door.

"What!" I hollered. The door opened, and Usagi came in.

"You don't have to have an attitude you know!" she said. "I heard a bang and got worried. What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Oh, yes there is. Oh, wow! What a pretty bracelet!" she exclaimed, pulling my arm closer to have a better look.

"Thank you."

"You don't seem enthused about it. Are you upset because of it?"

"I guess so. Miliardo came, just now, and gave it to me." I related the other events while he was here and told how I felt afterwards.

"I see," she said, "but you shouldn't be afraid. Even us scouts got to have fun!"

"But still-!"

Suddenly there was a bang. We looked and Makoto, Minako, and Ami were lying on the floor, in the doorway.

"Just thought we'd drop in," said Minako with a grin.

"Yeah, literally," said Usagi.

"You can come in," I said.

"Sorry that we were eavesdropping," said Ami.

"That's all right."

"Listen here girl," said Makoto, "you're in a dilemma. You've got two guys after you, but don't know which one to choose. Take my word for it, and go with Trowa."

"Why?" I asked.

"Because you know him better. You've only known Miliardo for a few days and he's going way too fast for you. Trowa's taking things slow and not rushing into things."

"You really think I should?"

"Definitely."

"I agree with her," said Usagi confidently.

"I still don't know. Now is not the time for me to have a boyfriend. I just can't afford to get distracted now."

"Don't worry," said Minako, "you two got plenty of time. I can understand that you're afraid at the moment, but you shouldn't be. Trowa's a nice guy. Don't avoid him so much."

"Thanks you guys," I said.

"No problem," said Ami. "Well, we better go now. See you tomorrow, Rei-san."

"Don't call me Rei-san." They turned to look at me. "Call me Rei." They smiled and I smiled back as they left. I've got four more friends.

********************

I was awakened by an alarm. It startled me so much that I fell out of bed.

"What a rude awakening," I muttered.

I listened to the alarm, and realized that it wasn't coming from my clock. Where then? It was coming from my computer. I switched it on, the alarm stopped, and Dr. Jay was on the screen.

"Doctor! It's 6:30 AM! On a Saturday!"

"I know that. He he. Nice hair."

I put and hand on my head and felt the mop on my head.

"Well it wouldn't be so messed up if you hadn't made me fall out of bed!"

"Ha ha! I'm sorry, but this is for a good cause. Your first mission. It's at an air base. Completely destroy it."

"Mission accepted."

This was worth getting up for. I dressed in my school uniform and sneaked off the premises. From there, I took a bus and stopped a couple blocks from the base. After running towards it, I arrived, and I saw that it was bursting into flames. Trowa was already there, shooting things, left and right. I guess I was here to cover for him.

I took out my morphing pen and said, "Mars Star Power!" After I transformed, I realized a Leo mobile suit saw me. "Mars Fire Egnite!" The suit exploded. "No one will know who I am. For all Oz knows, I'm Sailor Mars."

I stepped onto the battleground. I took a little scroll and said, "I call uppon the power of Mars!" I through it into the air and the scroll multiplied. Then I thrusted out my hand towards the enemy mobile suits and said, "Mars Fireballs Charge!" The scrolls attached themselves to the enemy mobile suits and they exploded into flames.

"Sailor Mars! What are you doing here?" Trowa asked.

"Accomplishing my mission!" I answered. "You know how long I've waited to do this?"

"Hey! Look out!"

Without a second thought, I jumped high into the air. When I landed on the ground again I turned to see the mobile suit Tall Geese.

"Colonel Zechs, I presume?" I asked.

"Yes. You must be Sailor Mars. I'm glad we're aquatinted."

A spark flashed in my head. I know him! Don't I? He sounds so familiar. That deep resonate voice that clashed to my brain, it was amazing. But I couldn't know him! I've never battled before, so it was utterly impossible. No matter, I must get rid of him just the same.

"I don't even want to be aquatinted with you!" I shouted. "You're history! Mars Celestial Fire Surround!"

Almost immediately, he the mobile suit dodged my powers with great agility.

"He's too fast!" called Trowa. The Tall Geese was about to fire its beam cannon at me. "Sailor Mars!" Trowa made his Gundam protect me by standing over me. Then there was a gigantic explosion that sent me crashing to the ground. If it wasn't for Trowa, I'd be dead.

"Trowa," I said weakly, "can't you shoot at him or something?"

"I can't!" he called. "I've used up my ammunition!"

"You're both finished!" Zechs shouted, as he was about to fire at us again. Then, a man came on call for him.

"Zechs, don't shoot."

"Treize Khushrenada? Why not?"

"Report back to base. You'll find out."

"But I can get rid of them now!"

"Zechs. If you did as you wished, you'd be regretting that action. Trust me."

"Very well," he said solemnly. "You two won't get off so easy next time." With that, the Tall Geese took off into the sky in a blink of an eye.

After he left, I was still kneeling on the ground. I was still a shaken a bit because of the explosion. Then, Trowa came out of his Gundam and knelt next to me.

"Are you all right?" he asked.

"Yeah, I think so," I said shakily.

He helped me up and put my arm around his shoulder.

"Trowa, I can stand. Thank you for your concern, and also for saving my life."

"You'd think I'd let you die? I don't think so. The others would never forgive me. And if you died, I'd die with you."

"You'd self-detonate?"

"Without a second thought."

"Uh...we'd better finish destroying the base."

"Yeah, I guess we'd better."

Trowa got back in his Gundam and used his extensive knife, while I used my powers. I couldn't stop thinking. He'd die with me. If I died, so would he. Either that, or he'd die trying to protect me. No one cares for me as much as Trowa does. As for me, despite all my efforts, I'm starting to care for him too. More than before. I remembered what Makoto said to me before; to go with Trowa. However I just...couldn't find a way to bring myself up to it. We finished up with the base.

"So where do we go from here, Trowa?"

"A place where I keep my Gundam. While we're there, we'll get some breakfast."

"Good, I'm starving. Can't work on an empty stomach."

Trowa opened the cockpit and called, "Come on!"

"In there?" I asked pointing. "We won't fit!"

"Would you rather cling on to the Gundam for dear life outside?"

"Hmm. You've got a point." Reluctantly, I jumped up towards the entrance of the cockpit. I looked inside. "No way we'll fit in here. Unless I sit on your head, or something."

"Very funny. You know you can always sit-"

"I don't think so." I knew he was going to let me sit on his lap, but I'd rather not. So I managed to sit in-between the footpetals where his feet were.

"I'm a human pretzel down here!" I moaned.

"Well I was going to offer you to sit-"

"Heh heh. No thank you."

"OK. Have it your way."

Then, the Gundam took off into the sky.

"Are you all right down there?" he asked.

"It depends on your definition of `all right'!"

"What do you mean?"

"Would you be all right, on the floor of a Gundam, going as fast as a roller coaster?!"

"I take that as a no."

"You got that right, pal!" I was beginning to think I should've taken Trowa's advice on where to sit in the first place. Then again, maybe not, this was awkward enough as it was. We continued our way to where Trowa kept his Gundam. When we got there, I saw that it was a cave.

"You put your Gundam in a cave?" I asked.

"Yes. Nobody comes around here so it's perfect."

"Makes sense."

He put the Gundam inside, and opened the cockpit.

"You can go out now," he said.

"I don't think I can. You go first."

He managed to get out without stepping on me. Any other guy would have given me bruises.

"Now can you come out?" he asked.

"I don't think so. I think I'm stuck."

"Oh brother," he said as he rolled his eyes. "You should've taken my advice."

"Yeah, whatever. Just get me out of here! I don't think I can feel my feet anymore."

He grabbed my arms and started pulling. Boy was I stuck! Trowa stood back after a while and determined how to get me out.

"Boy are you stuck!" he said.

"No kidding," I said. "Pull harder!"

"Okay, but help me out a bit here!" He pulled and I tried to push but I couldn't feel my legs now, so I couldn't move them. Then, with a gigantic pull, I popped out and we both fell out of the Gundam onto the hard, cave floor.

"Owww!!!!" I moaned.

"You think you got it bad," he said, "look who you landed on."

I looked and saw I landed on him, and he was on his stomach with his chin propped up on his hand by his elbow. He rapped his fingers on the floor waiting for me to get off.

"Oops. Sorry." I managed to get off of him and he stood up.

"Hey, can you stand up?"

"No. I can't feel from my legs, down." I managed to stand up, but my walk was a bit wabbled. We got inside, and the cave was huge. We went down a tunnel and got to a door, and inside there was some high-tech stuff.

"Talk about having the latest technology," I said.

"Doesn't hurt to be too prepared. Sit down."

I sat while Trowa got us some breakfast.

"You like cereal?" he asked.

"Yeah."

"Good, because it's all I've got," he said as he put the bowl in front of me.

"Do you cook?" I asked.

"Yeah, I have to."

"Why?"

"You can never trust cafeteria lunch."

I laughed and said, "It's not that bad!"

"Now that's the first time I've heard you laugh in a long time."

"Yeah, I guess so. Nothing much for me to be happy for around here."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't like the way I'm living now."

"You don't like being with us?"

"Oh no! It's not that! I love being with you guys and protecting the colonies. It's this way I've made new friends. It's just that I've never known what it meant to live a normal life, you know, to have a family. I know I had a family, once, but my parents never paid any attention to me. I was always upset and alone. They hardly spent any time with me. They spent the whole day just arguing. I'd look out my window and see families walking together. They looked so happy just enjoying eachother's company. I want to live my life that way."

"What do you look for in happiness?"

"I don't know. I don't even know what it means to be happy anymore. All I know is that I won't be living my life this way, if ever."

"How so?"

"No one is happy while Oz is trying to take over the earth's sphere and the colonies."

"You've got a point," he said, "but do you think happiness lasts forever? The families you see walking down the street gives you only a glimpse of happiness. They are happy. But do they really have true happiness?"

"I suppose you're right, Trowa, but at least they are happy. Even if it isn't for very long. I'd do anything to have true happiness, even for a moment. I know it will never happen, but I have a feeling that if I wait long enough, it will come to me. Am I making any sense to you?"

"You're making perfect sense," he said. "I understand. To others it might seem confusing, especially since they haven't been through the things you have."

"I'm grateful. Very much."

We continued eating. It was nice to have someone understand my feelings. Even though they are probably way beyond possible. I-

"My god," I whispered.

"What's wrong?" Trowa asked.

"Oh no!"

"What?"

"A vision just came to me. We've got to go back to the base!"

"Why?"

"Heero's in trouble!"
