Gundam Wing Fan Fiction / Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ The Search for Happiness ❯ Feelings Questioned ( Chapter 10 )

"Heero's in trouble!"

"You're kidding! Heero in trouble? Not possible."

"You doubt me? We can't waste time just sitting here arguing! We've got to go! Now!"

Trowa rushed to one of the shelves and brought back with him a small divice.

"Here we go," he said as he pushed a button. In a flash, we were at the base.

I slapped him on the arm and snapped, "You dope!"

"What'd I do?"

"It's what you didn't do! Why couldn't you have done that in the first place with the Gundam so I wouldn't have to turn into a pretzel!"

"I forgot?"

"Uhhh!!!"

"Cool it! I was kidding! It hasn't been programmed to transport Gundams yet."

"Now he tells me," I said rolling my eyes.

The place was deserted and completely destroyed. Columns of smoke rose into the air and various fires blazed throughout the compound. We did better than I thought in anihilating this place.

"There's a lot of ground to cover. What if he's not here, or we don't reach him in time?"

"Trowa, I'm never wrong. He is here. Mars Firebird!" The bird appeared through the streams of the flames. "Go look for Heero!" With a great cry, the bird flew off and circled the sky. In no time, the bird came back.

"What is it?" asked Trowa.

"She found him!"

"She?" he asked quizically, raising a brow.

"Never mind. Come on!" I said as I climbed onto the bird's back.

"It won't burn me, will it?" he asked, hesitant to follow.

"No, mostly in battle."

Cautiously, Trowa climbed on behind me. Then the bird took off high into the air. The wind was blowing my hair in my face so I brushed it away with my hand. As I did so, Trowa took hold of my arm in a firm grip.

"What is it?" I asked.

"That's a nice bracelet."

"Oh, thank you," I said as I pulled my hand away.

"Where'd you get it?"

"Miliardo gave it to me."

We were then silent. I felt bad, sensing that I hurt his feelings. He thinks I'm with Miliardo, but I'm not. Although, Miliardo is very nice to me, I don't have real feelings for him. It'll be hard to tell that to him though, that's for sure. I try to tell him, but I can never bring myself up to say it. Oh, well. One day, it'll come to me.

We then spotted Heero lying on the ground. He was on his stomach and was motionless. The bird started to land, but I was impatient so I jumped off.

"Sailor Mars!" called Trowa.

I didn't pay any attention to him. Instead I ran over to Heero. He was shot in the back. I turned him over and held him as I tried to find a pulse. I couldn't find one.

"Heero! My god, Heero! Please wake up!" I started to pat his face. "Snap out of it Heero!"

Trowa then came and tried to find a pulse again.

"Don't die Heero!" I said. "You've made it this far! Don't give up!"

"He's alive," Trowa said at last. "What happened to him?"

"He's shot in the back, most likely a behind attack. The enemy might still be here."

Trowa rolled Heero over and removed the bullet.

"Will he be all right?" I asked.

"Yeah, he's been in worse situations than this." He gave me the transporting device. "You take Heero back to the hideout. I'm going to have a look around."

"Right. Be careful, Okay?"

"You worry too much," he said jokingly.

I pressed a button and before I knew, Heero and I were back at the cave. I carried him to a bed and laid him down. Afterwards, I attended to his wound and bandaged it up. I went to the sink, got a towel, and soaked it with cold water, then returned back to Heero and dabbed the towel to his face.

"Please wake up, Heero," I said softly. After a while, Heero opened his eyes very slowly. "Heero? Are you all right? It's me, Sailor Mars."

"Rei?"

"Yes." He started to get up, but I pushed him down and said, "No! You can't get up in your condition!"

"You don't understand. The enemy is still at the base."

"What?"

"I was sent to go to the base to make sure every bit of it was destroyed. Then I was shot. Before I passed out I heard Zechs say that he and some others would stick around to see if others would come get me."

"Oh my...Trowa!" I gasped.

"What? Trowa's there?"

"Yes! I've got to go back! Promise me you'll stay here. I'll be back soon." Then I took the transporting device, and went back to the base.

When I got there, I hid behind what was left of a Leo mobile suit. As I looked around, I spotted Trowa. Behind him, was Colonel Zechs and three of his men. Zechs had a gun pointed at the back of Trowa's head. If he thinks that he's going to shoot him, he's got another thing coming to him! I devised a diversion to distract the three men, and caused an explosion with one of the Leo's quite a distance away. It worked. The men went off to the cause of the problem.

"Well," said Zechs, "it seems that your friends have come for you. However by the time they do, you'll be dead."

I snuck up behind him, and hit his neck, hard, with the side of my hand. He fell to the ground unconscious.

"Sailor Mars! Glad you came. I thought I was a goner."

"You think I'd let you die?"

He smiled down at me.

"I'm just glad you're all right," I said.

"How's Heero?"

"He's fine. We should get back before the other men find us."

So we transported back. We found Heero sitting on the bed.

"So what happened out there?" Heero asked. I told him everything that happened. "Not bad," he answered.

"What I don't get," said Trowa, "is why you let Zechs get away like that. You could have killed him right there!"

"I thought it would be unfair to win a battle with him not noticing me. I don't want to win because I was hiding, I want to fight fair. We'll fight head on, and I'll win with honor."

"But you clearly had the advantage."

"I agree with her," said Heero.

"You do?" Trowa asked, suprised.

"Yes. You are right that she had the advantage of the battle, but I can understand her viewpoint as well."

"I suppose so, but I'd expect that kind of talk from Wufei, not Rei."

"Hnnn."

"What is it Heero?" I asked.

"We're late for our dancing class."

"Aww crap."

"Well, we'd better head back," said Trowa. He changed the coordinates while I morphed back into my school uniform.

"Are you sure that you're all right, Heero?" I asked.

"No need to be concerned about me," he said, "I'm fine."

"But-"

"Rei," said Trowa, "he's fine."

"Okay," I said shrugging. "Whatever you say."

Trowa then transported us back to the school. Before we knew, we were in the school's hallways. We started running towards the music room and saw that no one was in the hallway, so we were probably super late! We stopped when we got to the door.

"Wait," I said, "what excuse will we tell Mr. K.?"

"Don't worry," said Heero, "just leave it to me."

We went in, but Mr. K. wasn't there. Instead, a lady was standing, scolding Duo who grinned sheepishly at her.

"Well," she said, "glad you could make it. My name is Ms. L. Now would you like to tell me the reason why you three are late?"

I hope that Heero comes up with a good excuse.

"We slept in," he said.

I rolled my eyes. What kind of an excuse was that?

"Well," she said, "I'll be lenient with you, but next time you won't get away so easily."

"Nice work, Heero," I exaggerated.

"Thank you."

"Oh, boy."

We paired off again, and I noticed that Miliardo wasn't here. That's really weird. Normally he'd be here just to dance with me. I wonder what happened. No matter, I got to dance with Trowa again. While we were dancing, we talked.

"Hey Rei, you did really good out there today."

"Thanks. I'm glad that Dr. J didn't let me go there by myself; otherwise I would've died, today."

"Rei, I don't want to even think about that. Even though you also saved my life today as well."

"Sorry. You did good yourself too, you know."

"Thanks. I wanted to ask you something."

"Really? What is it?"

"I just wanted to ask you if you wanted to go with me to the dance."

I was stunned. He really does have feelings for me. I thought we'd only remain as friends. Apparently, he doesn't consider me as a friend anymore. What am I going to do? Maybe I'm overreacting, he may just want to go together as friends. Oh who the hell am I kidding?

"Well, will you?" he asked again.

"Uh, I'll have to think about it." He looked a bit disappointed.

"Well, Okay. You'll let me know, won't you?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure." Dance class continued. I realized that the dance would be the day after tomorrow. What on earth would I wear? Am I going at all? So many conflicting situations were occuring, within my head and with the whole mission. I couldn't go, I just couldn't! Not when we're just beginning to start heating things up in the war! I can't afford to be distracted when I should be focusing on more important things. About an hour later, the class was over.

"Everyone listen!" said Ms. L. "Today, you'll have you outfits to go to the dance. They will be in your dorms after class. Have a nice day!"

I walked out of the room with Ami, Minako, Makoto, and Usagi.

"Oh! I wonder what my dress will look like!" exclaimed Usagi.

"I hope my gown comes with a tiara," said Minako dreamily.

"What about you, Rei?" asked Makoto. "Rei?"

"Huh? I'm sorry, did you say something?" I was in my own thoughts.

"Rei, are you all right?" asked Ami.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Aren't you excited about the dance?" asked Minako.

"No."

"What? Why not?" asked Makoto.

"I'm not going." I said.

"I thought that Trowa asked you to the dance," said Usagi.

"What? How'd you know that? Were you spying on me again?"

"Actually, I kind of overheard."

"So why aren't you going?" Ami asked.

"It's like Dr. J always told you. I can't let anything distract me from my work. I've got to stay focused."

"And it's like I always tell you," said Usagi, "even us scouts got to have some fun."

"I don't have time to have fun!" I shouted. The girls looked at me in confusion. "Excuse me, I'm sorry. I must go." I walked away.

I headed towards the courtyard. This is where the dance will be held. If I wasn't in the situation I was in, I'd probably go to the dance without hesitation. As I walked, other kids looked at me as I walked by. They think I'm so secretive, since that I don't talk to anyone. In a way, they are right; I do have a secret. The crowd parted, and murmured as I walked past them. I sat near the fountain and sighed.

So many strange things were happening. Miliardo wasn't at dance class today. That I found was very odd. Like I mentioned before, he'd always go so he could dance with me. Something must have happened. I wonder what. The thing that caught my attention most was that Trowa asked me to the dance. He really caught me off guard. I should have expected him to say that when he said that he would die for me. Why didn't I see it before? Why did I have to be so blind? I didn't know what to do. My mind was going off course because of this. So, I just won't go. I'll just get more involved if I do.

Then, Miliardo came over. He sat down next to me.

"Hello there, Rei-san."

"Oh, hello Miliardo."

"Is anything wrong?"

"No. I'm fine. I just need to sort out some stuff."

"It must really be troubling you."

"What do you mean?"

"I can tell by that gloomy expression on your face."

I smiled. I looked around and noticed others staring at us.

"You know," I said, "everyone is staring at us. They must think you're pretty brave to be talking to me."

"They're afraid of you?"

"I don't know. They think I'm so mysterious. Like I'm an ancient legend that needs to be left alone, otherwise they'll suffer the torment of an eternal hell, or something."

"Heh heh. You've got quite an imagination."

"Miliardo, why weren't you at dance class? I was a bit worried."

"You were worried about me?" he asked surprised.

"Uh, yeah. I mean, you're always there and so I thought something serious might have happened."

"No. Nothing like that. I, uh, I needed to clear some things out as well."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Speaking of the dance, are you going?"

I looked down and said, "No."

"Why not?"

"Let's just say that it has to do with the things I need to clear up."

"Like what?"

"Uh, you know, personal matters. That's probably your reason as well, am I right?"

"Yes. Well, just in case you change your mind, I'll be by to pick you up." Before I could reject, he got up and left. I would just have to break it to him when he came.

I went to my dorm. When I got there, I found a package. No doubt that it was my gown for the dance. I didn't even bother to open it. Instead, I took it and stuffed it in my closet. No use thinking about something that would never happen, so I'll just let it go completely.
