Rei sat down on a park bench, her head tilted downwards in shame and humiliation. Her tears seemed to run in rivers, never ceasing, mixing with the rain that poured from the sky onto her huddled figure. She wrapped herself within her own arms in hopes to keep warm from the chilly air. She then saw a pair of black shoes before her. She didn't bother looking up, but shivered instead.

Duo: Is that you, Rei? *holds an umbrella over her*

Rei: *pushes him away* Don't bother, I'm wet already. Just go away.

Duo: I'm not leaving you in the rain to let you get sick! C'mon, I'll take you to my place.

Rei: I wish you wouldn't. Just let me stay here. Please.

She finally looked up at him and Duo was suprised to see her eyes filled with tears. They looked so pleadingly towards him...so desperate..so beautiful.

Duo: Not another word. Let's go. Now tell me what's goin on. I've never seen you like this; it's not like you at all.

Duo put an arm around her shoulder to keep her warm. Rei leaned her head against him and as they walked, she told him what happened. When she had finished, they had reached his apartment.

Duo: You're kidding me! But he always treated her like a sister!

Rei: Obviously more than that.

Duo: I'd never thought he'd do something like this. He's always so dedicated.

Rei: That makes two of us.

Duo: *gives her dry clothes and a towel* Here, go dry off and put this on. I, uh, doubt it fits but it's better than nothing.

Without a word, she goes to the bathroom and does what she's been told. After drying off and hanging her clothes to dry in the shower, she put on the kaki pants and black sweatshirt. Both were baggy and she had to pull up the pants in order not to feel like they weren't going to fall to her ankles and make her trip over them. Adjusting the colar of the sweatshirt from hanging off her shoulder and rolling up the sleeves a bit she came out and sat on the couch. Duo came and handed her a warm mug.

Rei: Thanks, but no thanks. I brought my own drink. *picks up wine bottle* You wanna join me?

Duo: Sure.

Duo went to get two wine glasses and poured the wine for the two of them.

Duo: You warm enough?

Rei: *nods and drinks wine*

Duo: You can crash here as long as you like.

Rei: That's sweet of you, but I have to get to the temple in the morning.

Duo: Well just know you've got a spare home here. And if you need any help at the temple just give me a call, or if you just wanna talk, or if-

Rei: Duo, don't worry, I'm fine.

Duo: *sits beside her* But don't you see! That's the thing, I DO worry about you!

Rei: HE used to worry about me...the way you do now. *tears threatening to fall* I...I wish he still did.

Duo: I bet he does since you just left him there and went out in the rain.

Rei: That's a lot of bull shit Duo! Don't you think that if he honestly cared that he would have gone out to look for me at least? Let alone the main fact that IF he cared he wouldn't have cheated on me to begin with! *hieves a sigh* I shouldn't look back, I should look ahead at what's in front of me...but...it's too hard to let go..!

Duo takes her in his arms, consoling her as she cries. He ran his fingers up and down her back and through her hair, something he'd been longing to do for a long time. He soon realized that she was falling asleep within his arms and he felt that he needed to just hold her, protect her...and love her. He picked her up and carried her to his bed and wrapped the sheets around her tightly. Rei woke up and saw him start to walk away.

Rei: *pulling his hand* Where are you going?

Duo: I'll sleep on the couch.

Rei: You don't have to, I'll sleep there.

Duo: No, you're already here.

There was then silence between the two and both realized that they were still holding hands, their fingers now tightly intertwined. They both quickly let go of eachother, as if it were a taboo just to hold hands. But being that it was forbidden, made them both want it more. Duo sat next to her, his eyes boring into hers. This made Rei feel insecure and yet secure at the same time. Duo looked away from her as if he had just been released from a binding spell, and he breathed heavily in bewilderment.

Rei: I've never seen you like this.

Duo: Like what?

Rei:...you're different. A seriousness that makes you look so mature and- *gasp*

Rei put a hand over her mouth in order to stop herself from going on about him. She shouldn't be doing this, she thought, not after what happened with her and Trowa, between them. But that was just it, there was nothing between her and Trowa anymore...it died. And she felt like she had died as well. But she was being brought back to life by this kind boy whom she thought to be most annoying, but that wasn't what she saw. She saw HIM for who he really was.

Rei: I'm sorry, I shouldn't talk like that.

Duo: Why not?

Rei: *looks down at her hands* It isn't right.

Duo: All the more reason it is.

Rei: No! This is just the same. I always get in trouble for this.

Duo: Just like you are now.

Rei: What?!

Duo: For god's sakes Rei, are you that thick-headed? Girl I love you! I always have, even when you were with Trowa. When you were, my love grew and it hurt me, for I never knew if I'd be able to tell you. I also knew you wouldn't accept me. I'm not classified as a gentlemen, like Trowa.

Rei: Believe me, he is no gentleman compared to you.

Duo: Now you know my feelings, please give me your answer.

Rei: Please...don't look at me like that.

Duo: Just one word from your lips is all I need.

Rei: Nothing will pass through my lips.

Duo: Are you sure? *leans closer*

Rei: Absolutely certain.

Duo reached out for her and kissed her passionately, the way he always dreamed of. His mouth searched out hungrily for hers, to search every bit of her, in order to impress it more on his memory and through his fingers. Rei knew this was wrong...it had to be. But there was nothing to feel guilty about. She was single again, or at least she thought she was until now. She was safe, she was warm, she was home within the arms of her savior! Duo pulled away and looked in her eyes so intently.

Duo: *whisper* You lied.

Rei: And what do you plan to do about it?

Duo: I plan to love you the way I always loved you.

He layed with her all night, niether cared about the consequences, or how forbidden the situation seemed. They had eachother, and that was all they needed.

Rei awoke the next morning to the rays of the sun seeping through the curtains and onto her face. She looked beside her for her new lover, but he wasn't there. She sat up, pulling the sheets in front of her, and she found him looking out the window. He was in nothing more than his black jeans, his chest finely chiseled and looking glorious in the rays of the sun.

Rei: What are you doing up already?

Without a word he left and then returned with her clothes in his hand. With eyes of pain and regret he threw her clothes at her.

Duo: *in rough voice* Get out.

Rei: *flinched* What? Why?

Duo: You said you had to get back to the temple, so go.

Rei: I don't have to go right away.

Duo: Yes, you do.

Rei:...what's wrong? What's gotten into you?

Duo: I'll tell you what's gotten into me. *walking towards her* YOU. And with that gave me guilt. I still feel you belong to Trowa, and I've taken something from him.

Rei: I don't belong to him anymore.

Duo: Yes you do! I dunno how to explain it, but you do! I feel that what we did was wrong...it can't happen again!

Rei: But Duo-

Duo: No! Get the hell outta here!

Rei wraps the sheets around her and hurried to the bathroom to change and slammed the door.

Rei: Why are you doing this to me?!

Duo: Because...I love you.

Rei: Bull shit! If you did you wouldn't be doing this!

Duo: Letting you go is the best thing I'm doing for you. You'll understand one day.

Rei: *opens door* No, I won't...you're making a huge mistake!

Duo: It depends on how you look at it. From my point of view, it's devastating. But for you...you're free now.

Rei: Please Duo *wraps arms around his waist, hugging him* don't push me away. I don't want to leave you.

Duo: If you keep saying things like that you're gonna make it harder to say good-bye.

Rei: *backs away* Do you have a hat?

Duo: Yeah, *gives her black hat* what for?

Rei: *snatches it away* I'll return it later. *piles up her flaming red hair and puts hat on*

Duo: Yep, don't want anyone to see that now, do we?

Rei: *goes to door* Good-bye Duo.

Duo: No worries, no one will know about last night.

Rei: Fine

Duo: Rei!...I'm sorry.

Rei: *turns back and looks at him, fighting tears* No you're not. *leaves*

Wow that sure was hard to write. I hate sad endings, but who said this story was finished? Well here's the preview for next chapter....

Wufei's thoughts are slowly coming together of what happened that fateful evening....what? Rei was involved? Wufei's attempt to get to her for some answers backfires as he finds himself in a most...unusual situation. Perhaps this curse will turn out useful after all...
