Chapter Three

Heero unlocked the door to his flat and then chucked the keys on the side table. He took a few steps in and then turned to Duo who was still standing at the door.

"What are you a vampire too?" Heero smiled. Duo laughed and shook his head.

"No, I - I was just thinking, me stepping in to here is like me saying yes." Heero shook his head and took a step towards Duo.

"No it doesn't. Listen, take all the time you want, you don't have to say yes, all I'm asking is that you think. Okay? You don't have to say yes, I promise, I want be angry. Just take your time, I can understand that this all must be hard for you." Duo shook his head.

"No, just you asking me that is a bit of a shock."

"But what about you being ..." Heero trailed off and looked down, not wanting to come to terms with the whole thing yet.

"Ill?" Duo asked. Heero nodded and looked up again. Duo smiled. "I've known for about four months now. Its not a shock to me any more, but you coming out of the blue with that? That shocked me. I thought you were going to tell me something like you were going away and I would never be able to see you again." Heero shook his head.

"No." Duo sighed. "So are you coming in or what?" Duo nodded and stepped across the floor line and on to a different type of carpet. He looked around and nodded. The flat was nice, it smelt new and looked new and clean. He smiled as he saw a lap-top computer sitting up in the corner of the room on a new, brown desk.

Taking a few more steps in to the room he saw that the kitchen was part of the lounge and that there was a room leading off one way and room leading off another, obviously a bedroom and bathroom. Duo then looked up to Heero and smiled and let out a sigh of relief and walked over to the couch and sat down.

"Coffee?" Duo shook his head and then looked around the room some more. He looked to a table in the middle of the room, just in front of him. On it there was a photo frame with a picture in it. He picked it up and smiled. In it was a picture of himself, Heero, Quatre, Trowa and Wufei. He smiled and sighed.

"That was a while ago hey?" Hero turned around from the kitchen and smiled.

"Yeah, that was our last day, remember?" Duo nodded and smiled. Did Quatre and Trowa ever leave each other's side?" Heero laughed and shook his head then turned back. Duo put the photo frame back down. He looked at Heero working away in the kitchen opening up cupboards and then closing them again and looking in another cupboard.

"So what have you been up to then?" Heero asked as he sat back down holding a cup of coffee in his hand. Duo shrugged.

"Not much, I had a job but when I told my manager about my condition he thought that it was only fair to let me go. I couldn't do much after that could I? I mean it's not like I didn't have any money, I - well we all got a lot of money at the final mission didn't we? I didn't spend it for a while because I was..." Duo trailed off. For a while after the mission he and Heero were living together but then Heero went back in to work. " Well, that money we all got. I'm still living off that. It's all in the bank growing interest as we speak. Every month a bit gets taken out to pay for the rent of the flat but not much. I seem to just spend my time wondering around, thinking. That's all you can do. Not much point in doing anything else is there?" Heero hung his head and the two of them stayed silent for a while. "But what about you?" Duo asked. Heero looked up.

"Not a lot actually. I don't have a job. After that new mission I got paid a fair bit, enough to get me somewhere better to live." Heero then waved his arms around, indicating to Duo that that was his 'somewhere better to live.' "And that's it. I knew I needed to get back in contact with you. So I did and I'm so glad you got that letter." Duo nodded.

"I am too, it was nice meeting up with you after all that time." Heero nodded and smiled at Duo. Duo rolled his eyes.

"You want an answer don't you?" Heero shook his head but he had a smile. "You do?" Heero shrugged his shoulders.

"I can wait for as long as you want me too. I just want to know where I stand."

"I like you too, I can't exactly say I can't still have feelings for you after all this time can I?" Heero shrugged again. "No, I can't. I loved you so much and then you went and left. You didn't even ask me to come with you, which I could have done, you know I could have."

"Duo I'm sorry, if I have any idea that you wanted to come with me then I would have asked you but I seriously thought that you wanted to stay here." Duo shook his head.

"You didn't ask, and that shows me how much you don't know me."

"But I can make it work, I can get to know you again after all..."

"After all that time, I know." Duo sighed. "I think I'll go home." He said and he stood up.

"Wait. Don't you want to talk about this?" Duo shook his head.

"I'll just think about it at home but please, don't ask me now, I need to think." Heero sighed and walked to the door. Duo reached for the door handle to pull it down and open the door but Heero banged his hand and the door slammed shut again.

"Heero just let me go." Heero shook his head.

"I don't want to let you go, that's just it." Duo turned away.

"You don't need me, I'm just the nearest thing you've got now let me go." Heero shook his head and was about to speak but Duo turned round again. "HEERO! Let me go, I don't want to be here any more." Heero smiled and put his hand on Duo's shoulder. Duo let it stay there.

"Please?" Heero asked. "Just stay a little more." Duo shook his head but Heero already had both hands on his shoulders. "Please?" Heero then leaned forward and closed his eyes and pressed his lips to Duo's. Duo kept his eyes open but didn't shove Heero away. Heero then moved his lips away and opened his eyes.

"Why did you do that?" Duo asked slowly. Heero shrugged.

"I love you."

"I love you too but Heero, you hurt my feelings, you really did, how can I guarantee that that isn't going to happen again? How do I know you aren't just going to go away again?" Heero smiled.

"I've given that all up. I don't work there any more. I promise I will never leave you again."

"Its because I'm ill isn't it? You feel sorry for me don't you?" Heero shook his head.

"No, I would have said it any way, I didn't know you were ill. I swear. I love you Duo I love you." Duo shook his head.

"Please, just let me go. I will see you again tomorrow okay?" Heero hung his head and moved away from the door. Duo walked forward and opened the door. He looked once more and Heero and smiled. Heero didn't see. Duo then closed the door behind him and walked down the hall.

Heero sighed and walked to the photo frame in the middle of the room. He picked it up and rested his finger on Duo's smiling. He then closed his eye and a small tear feel down his cheek and landed on the plasic cover on the frame. He put the photo down and picked up his cup of coffee.

The door knocked.

Heero turned around and wiped the tears from his face and walked to the door. He took a deep breath and opened it. Duo smiled at him.

"I love you Heero." Duo said and he walked in to the flat and put his hand on the back f Heero's neck and puled his in and kissed him. He closed his eyes. Heero felt himself smile and closed his eyes.

"I don't ever want to leave you again." Duo said. Heero sighed with relief.

"I love you, promise you will never leave me." Duo shifted uncomfortably then he smiled.

"My sould will always be with you Heero Yuy." Heero smiled and then kissed Duo again.
