Part one: The Wilderness Drive Church and Lodge
Fairbanks International (8am December 20th)
"There's the plane." Liz said seeing the plane with her father's guests starting to unload. Her girlfriend nodded tucking the lock of brown hair out of her brown eyes. Both were dressed in black leather jackets and had their woolen caps tucked into their pockets. "Lynn? Something wrong?" Liz asked looking at the brunette standing beside her, seeing the girl had a small scowl.
"No, I just hate playing tour guide for your father's associates." The taller girl said with a sigh.
"From what I heard Mr.. Winner's about our age. Be glad that we get out of class for an extra week. You really want to deal with the 'ancient one'?" Liz asked as the plane started to unload.
"You're right. He has it for us love..." She brushed a lock of red hair out of Liz's pale green eyes.
"It wouldn't be because of our 'make-out' session in the back of his class." She giggled remembering their first kiss. Lynn flushed as Liz ran up to the gate to meet their guests.
"Temptress." Lynn growled low catching up with her.
"I'm not the only one." She smiled and held up the sign she had made with Quatre's name on it. A small blond boy smiled waving to the two girls.
"We are being picked up by women?" Wufei scowled. "I did not agree to come on this trip to hang out with women."
"Wufie... Come on, it's only a few weeks, besides... You really wanted to stay and help Noin and Sally with reports..." Duo asked as he started over to the pair.
"That's Wufei, Maxwell!" Wufei scowled balling a hand into a fist. Trowa placed a hand on his shoulder stopping him from making a scene. Quatre had already caught up with Duo to introduce himself and the others to the pair.
"Why don't we go get our bags?" Trowa suggested knowing it would only be a matter of time before the two were at it again, both being upset they had been stuck together on the long flight from LAX to the reasonably smaller airport. Even at the late morning hour the airport seemed abandoned. Only three flights had come in the whole day.
"Still... Women..." Wufei scowled as he and Trowa both headed for baggage claim. The terminal was one long corridor on the second floor of the building. An old Sitka plane hung from the ceiling as well as a few stuffed birds, made to look like they were soaring in the air.
Heero read a few of the plaques up giving the highlights of the airport. He didn't see the red haired girl as she walked up to him, Lynn having had left to get the car, while Duo and Quatre went to help Trowa and Wufei with the bags.
"If you like history, I can put a few historical landmarks on the tour, Lynn and I are supposed to give you." She asked motioning for him to go with her to the escalator. Heero looked at her a second then followed, hearing Duo say he wanted to see sled dogs, and maybe some reindeer.
"I want to see the North Pole." Quatre added making Liz bite back a laugh. The blond looked at her. "Which one? The one where Santa Claus lives... Or the real one?" She asked.
"You mean there's a difference?" Quatre asked with an innocent air. Liz completely lost it and nodded.
"If you want, after we get you boys settled in at the resort, we can head out there." Trowa looked up hearing Quatre's cheer. He smiled as the others walked up.
"I take it you told him about the North Pole already." Lynn said as Liz picked up two of the bags that were handed to her. She noticed they were the two smallest and lightest ones.
"Yes. Would you be interested in joining us?"
"Of course." Trowa nodded.
"You do know he's fake right Quatre?" Wufei asked. Liz shook her head.
"Is he always so moody... Or is it because he's PMSing?" Liz asked making Quatre blush and Duo laugh. Wufei looked at her, not sure if he should respond yet or get her back later. "Oh, I have a lot more where that came from Mr. Wufei Chang." She smiled slyly.
"I already know I'm going to like you Liz." Duo said wrapping his arm around her shoulder. The six of them headed out to the van where Lynn was beating out a tempo with the CD playing.
The van was a dark hunter green that almost blended in with the darkness of the 'night' around them. On the side was written 'Wilderness Drive Church and Lodge', under it was the address and telephone number. The boys looked at it and saw the small smirk on Liz's face.
"It's a joke we have running with Dad. The church's fake, but since this town's big on the church thing... No one really minds that it doesn't really exist." She explained. "He keeps wanting us to take off the sign, but Lynn just can't bring her heart up to it. So we just keep fighting him about it." She said opening the first door that lead outside. Steam flowed before them into the small chamber. The door closed behind the six teens before the outer doors opened.
"It's cold out here.." Quatre shivered almost at once. He pulled his thick down jacket tighter around himself.
"This is actually warm for this time of year." Lynn said helping put their gear in the back of the van. "Go on and get in the van. I can handle this." She smiled seeing the blond boy was freezing. Liz finished handing her the bags then went to let the boys in. Quatre saw that there were a few warm blankets lying folded on the seat and grabbed one, wrapping it around himself.
"We'll go into the lodge from the garage. Dad had us get you guys real snow gear to handle the cold." Liz said as she handed the five of them hot chocolate in small thermoses.
"Thanks." Duo said taking his. He took a small sip and smiled. "What's the recipe?"
"I'll show you when we get to the lodge." Lynn said smiling as she touched Liz's arm lightly.
~~Two hours later~~
The gates opened allowing the van to pass into the lands surrounding the lodge. It was a large four story log cabin, lights in the windows twinkling with festive charm. The door was decorated with a wreath. The dogs ran up to the porch as Lynn pulled into the garage.
Lynn pulled into the garage and a man in his early fifties, with hair just starting to grey at the temples, looked up from where he was working on repairing a dogsled. He smiled putting down his tools as the seven teens got out of the van. It was clear that Liz took after her father by the man's thin build. She slipped out of her jacket, placing it in the front seat of the van, underneath she wore a tight fitting shirt and tight leather pants that flared at the knees.
"Mr.. Winner, it's nice to see you again." The man said smiling as he wiped his hands off on a rag.
"Quatre's fine Mr. Erikson." Quatre said with a small nod.
"Please, just call me John." He went to help unpack the van.
"Dad we got it. Why don't you show the boys around?" Lynn said politely.
"You sure you have it under control?"
"I think we can." She smiled.
"I'll not have a woman messing up my things.." Wufei said deciding to watch the two girls like a hawk. The others were escorted into the lodge where more warm cocoa waited, along with fresh baked cookies. John and Quatre started talking about plans for the vacation.
"I'll have to go out to check on a few business matters tomorrow and won't be back for a few days. I figured during that time the girls could take you out to the hot spring."
"Dad... The only people who go out there this time of year are people who like to go skinny-dipping." She said with a small blush.
"Like us?" Lynn whispered to her making her blush more.
"I figured you kids are old enough." John said knowing all too well what happened at the hot spring. A trip out there with his then girlfriend had given him his daughter. Six years later his wife had died in a car accident leaving him to run the lodge and care for his daughter.
"Oh... Dad you're horrible!" She stomped her foot and turned heading for the kitchen to get snacks. Lynn and John laughed.
"Actually I wouldn't mind seeing the spring." Duo said shooting Heero a glance.
"I'm grabbing a shower." Heero said turning to leave the room. Duo grinned and followed after him. Wufei found a book and sat down to read, trying to block out that he was the only single person in the lodge. His thoughts were interrupted by a soft flute playing across the room.
"Any requests?" Lynn asked from where she sat by the fire twirling the instrument in her long fingered hand. Liz smiled.
"Oh Christmas tree." She heard both Quatre and Lynn groan and giggled. "What about the piece you were playing this morning?"
"No way... That piece isn't finished yet.." Lynn blushed. "And you weren't supposed to hear it either..." Quatre, who was sitting at the small piano in the corner looked at the girls.
"You write as well?"
"A little. The real musician's Liz. She's writing music for her first record. I just putter around."
"We just lost them." John said as he took Trowa's knight. Trowa nodded silently and took another pawn of John's as Wufei returned to reading the book of Athabaskan legends he had picked up.
Liz and Quatre played the piano as Lynn played the flute, filling the room with cheerful music as they waited for Duo and Heero to return so they could head out to the North Pole. After a few minutes Liz started singing, softly at first, then her voice filling the air as she sang along with the carols they were playing. Her soft alto was joined by an equally soft baritone and Quatre blushed knowing who's voice it belonged to. He felt arms wrap around him and a warm body press against him on the bench and realized Trowa had stopped playing chess a while ago.
He glanced up into the dark green eyes of the man he loved and smiled.
"How cute..." Duo said ruining the moment as he and Heero entered in clean clothes. Duo's hair hung in wet locks against his back. Liz and Lynn were both pulled close in a deep kiss. Wufei glanced at them then tried to hide reddening cheeks in the thick book.
"Duo, be nice." Heero tugged his hair making him squeal in mock pain.
"The hair... Don't touch the hair.. You know how sensitive I am..."
"That's not what you were saying just a few minutes ago..." Heero said in his flat unemotional voice. Duo's face went deep crimson. The girls pulled away from each other and blushed.
"Sorry about that." Lynn said as Liz tried to breath again.
"Oh... while you guys are out would you get a tree. It wouldn't be right to have Christmas out here without a tree." John said from the kitchen.
"You guys actually use a real tree?" Duo asked looking at the girls. They both nodded.
"Fake ones don't have a scent. You guys can pick it. You're the guests." Liz said smiling.
"I never got to have a real tree before..." Quatre said smiling.
"You didn't have snow around growing up either Kat." Duo said ruffling Quatre's hair. "Let me finish braiding my hair and I'm set." The girls nodded and the group of teens separated to go get ready.
