Chapter Eleven
Solo-POV
I gotta admit he's not too bad.
Pretty cute in the face.
Messy brown hair, blue eyes, pouty lips...nope not too bad.
He's sitting across from me on the little table.
He's cute...but he frowns too much. What am I thinking? I don't even like guys!
"Alright enough is enough." says Chinaboy. He sits down next to Heero, staring at me like I've got some big secret or somethin'.
"We've told you how we know Duo, now you have to tell us what you know." He says angrily.
Heero turns his head to glare at Chinaboy.
"No need to be interrogating a hostage Wufei, this is Duo." Heero says.
"No Heero he is not, if you recall he is 'Solo' now. Duo is not around and I intend to find out why." Wufei says. He sat there returning Heero's glare for a minute before turning back to me.
I gulp, these guys are seriously dangerous. They're like those damned Ozzies.
"Tell us what you know about Duo." Wufei asks. He looks at me as if I've been lying to him and he's gonna prove me wrong. I look at Heero and he stares straight at me. The lady and the two other guys are standing there waiting for me to say somethin'.
They want an answer fine.
"I've known Duo since I've found him on the streets eating out of trashcans." I say.
Their faces dropped, Heero looks surprised.
"Didn't know that did ya?" I ask. "Duo didn't have a name back then, I gave him the name 'Duo'. I took him in and taught him how to steal and how to find a hole to sleep in. I also taught him how to not get caught by Ozzies." I say.
Blondie behind me gasps and Heero looks sick.
Chinaboy speaks, "What happened to Duo?"
"He's dead, he died during the plague."
I really don't like talking about death, it makes me nervous. I want to get out of here but that lady wants to take me somewhere and I know she's gonna ask me a million questions that I ain't ready to answer.
I rub my left arm nervously.
"How do you know if he really died?" Lady behind me asks.
I close my eyes; I can still picture how Duo looked in my arms with blood coming out of his mouth. His tears mixed with blood as he coughed badly making his body shake. How can she ask me if Duo, my baby brother, is dead? How can she know what it's like watching the only family ya got get blue in the face when he couldn't breathe anymore?
"Solo?"
I fist my hands and slowly open my eyes.
"I know he's dead 'cause I was there. I held him as he died, his face all blue when he couldn't breathe anymore. The way he shook with every cough, coughs that came up with blood. And the tears that bled." I whisper. "If that's not dying then I don't know what is." I tell them.
Poor Heero looks whiter than a sheet. Wufei looks a little green.
I smirk, that's funny.
"Solo what happened to you after Duo died?" Blondie asks. I could kiss him for changing the subject.
"I...I..." I stop. What did happen to me after Duo died? All I remember is Duo died, then I left and then...nothin'.
I look up. They're all looking at me. I don't like where this is going. What the hell's going on?
"Um..." Shit what's going on? Why am I even here? What the hell happened?
"...olo?" I jerk up. Something's not right. Oh god something's not right!
"...hit! Sally!..."
I need to get out of here.
Heero-POV
What the Fuck just happened? One minute he's talking normal answering questions just fine and then...
"Shit Sally! I don't think he can even hear me. What the fuck's happening to him!?" I yell at her. I can't stand watching Duo twitch like that.
"Shut up Heero!" She yells at me, she grabs Duo by the shoulders and shakes him. "I think it's finally caught up to him." She says, "He's not responsive, I think the switch has taken its toll on him."
I'm confused. "What?"
"He might be turning back into Duo."
Now that got my attention. "So what do we do?"
"I'm taking him out of here." She says. She stands up and grabs Duos hands. I was about ready to jump up when Duo screams and smacks Sally clear across her face.
Holy shit.
"Sally!" Quatre runs to Sally. My eyes are on Duo. He's stopped shaking and he's breathing hard. His chest is rising hard with each breath.
"Heero be on your guard. This may very well be Shinigami." Trowa says.
I take a good look into Duos eyes. There's fear there, not rage. This isn't Shinigami we're dealing with. This is a scared Duo. I take one step forward slowly and he takes two steps back. I take another step and slowly raise my hand. He takes another two steps back. It's not until I see him glance to the door that I understand his objective.
He's trying to escape.
"Duo" I say softly.
He turns to me; the look of pain on his face nearly took my breath away. I've never seen that face on him before.
"I'm Solo." He says and then lunges for the door. I chase after him; he jumps over Sally and Quatre. He reaches the door just as Wufei tackles him to the ground. Duo screams and bites down hard on Wufeis hand.
"OW! Son of a-"
I grab Duo's legs and hold them but he's so fucking thin and boney. I lose grip on one leg and he nails me hard across the chest. Goddammit that hurt!
Trowa grabs Duos flailing leg and pins him with his body.
"NO STOP! LEAVE ME ALONE! PLEASE DON'T DO IT! I'M JUST A KID! PLEASSSEEE....."
Trowa stiffens and jerks away from Duo. Wufei lets go and backs away.
"Please....I'm sorry! I-I only stole it 'cause I'm starvin'!" Duo cries and backs away to the door. "Please...don't do to me what you did to my brother. I promise I won't steal again. J-Just don't rape me please!"
My mouth drops. Holy shit.
"Please..." Duo cries again. I can sit here staring at him. My legs won't move. What the hell happened to him? Who the fuck hurt him?
Who's his brother?
Duos sitting there watching us with his puffy red eyes, and I can't help but think that we seriously fucked up here. He's looking at all of us. Trowa and Wufei are standing off to the side. Quatre and Sally are standing behind me and I'm sitting on my ass staring at Duo. Slowly Duo stands up with shaky legs. He leans with the back against the door. Neither of us moves, afraid of another breakdown.
"I'm sorry." He whispers softly and grabs the door handle. He jerks the door open just as I'm on my feet again. I lunge for him but he's out the door before I could reach him. Son of a bitch I forgot how fast he is. I take off after him in bare feet and jeans, the other four right behind me. Duo jumps the last few steps down the first floor and sprints out of the building. My bare feet pounds on the tiled floor as I race after him, I didn't notice the 'Wet Floor' sign and slipped a bit losing momentum.
Shit I lost him. I race out the doors and head towards the front of the building, he's not here. I run to the gardens on the left. Empty. I'm panicking by now, if I don't find him I don't know what I'll do.
I check the parking lot. Nothing. FUCKFUCKFUCK!! I lost him.
"SON OF A BITCH!!!" I scream out loud. The other just caught up to see me throwing a shit fit.
"Heero?"
"He's gone! I can't find him!" I yell, by now I've gathered a nice crowd of spectators.
"Well where could he have gone? There's nowhere for him to go!" Sally shouts.
"I DON'T KNOW!" I scream in her face. Fucking bitch has gotten on my last nerve.
"Settle down you two! We need to find Duo and we're not going to do it by yelling at each other!" Quatre jumps in. "He's around here somewhere and we'll find him but first enough is enough! No more fighting! I'm sick and tired of all of this! Let's find Duo and Sally will take him for observation..."
"The hell she will! I'm not letting Duo out of my sight."
"It's too late for that Heero..." Wufei states, "...because you already have."
