Thin, nimble fingers, twisted and tapped against each other rapidly, and two slender legs swung back and forth, hanging from a chair in the quiet waiting room. Deep blue eyes stared intently at the pale fingers, before they saw another hand close over them. The hand was slender and had a golden wedding band with a large pear-shaped diamond in it. Heero knew it was Sally's immediately and he looked up into her smiling face, only to smile back sheepishly as she'd effectively quelled his fidgeting. He repressed a sigh and shyly grappled at the pale hand for comfort, “…do we know how much longer?” he asked looking to his fellow ex-pilot, who had wound a reassuring arm around his back.
The blonde shook his head, “I'm not sure…but it shouldn't be much longer. Right?” he said looking to the blonde woman, who only shook her head and tightened her hold on the other's hand. Quatre rubbed the slightly hunched back soothingly, “We'll go in and wait outside the door for you, ok?” he said smiling at his brunette friend.
The Japanese nodded slowly in appreciation, “Thank you…” he trailed off, focusing on the feeling of the aqua-eyed boy's ministrations. They only waited for a few more minutes before the door swung open to reveal a stout woman, with glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. She wore a dark burgundy suit, and her dishwater blonde hair was messily held back in a half-up do, as she read off the clipboard and called to Heero.
All three rose from their chairs, the blondes quicker then their smaller friend, in an attempt to help him up from his seat. The three linked hands, causing the brunette to blush as they walked into the back to see a tall young woman talking to a nurse behind the sign in desk. The stout woman from before led them over, without a smile, and stopped them short, going over to quietly speak with the tall woman, who promptly turned to look at them and smile.
Heero studied the woman as she made her way over to them, her walk was brisk, so as not to be rude, but confident and with a slight swagger that revealed a down-to-earth nature. She was tall, as he'd noticed initially, and slender with average endowments, her hair was a deep brown, and layered past her shoulder blades, he nodded when she stopped in front of them extending her hand.
“Nice to meet you,” she said, her hazel eyes locking onto his, “I'm Dr. Montgomery,” she took his offered hand and shook it firmly. Up close the Japanese saw she was quite pretty in an exotic way, her eyes were slanted slightly, but large with long lashes, and her nose was long and sloped, she had a small mouth, and endearing freckles that littered a tan, heart-shaped face. She had high cheekbones, that resulted in dimples when she smiled at him, and her hazel eyes twinkled, “You must be Heero.”
Blue eyes refrained from widening, as the Japanese reigned in his surprise, she had pronounced his name perfectly. He forced a small curve of his lips, “Nice to meet you,” he answered softly, bowing politely after he shook her hand. Straightening himself, he merely watched her as she turned to his friends and introduced herself, careful eyes took her in as she smiled easily and leaned in when they spoke, focusing on them when they told her their names.
He felt comfortable when she turned back to him and smiled warmly, “Would you like your friends to join you on your first visit?” she asked, leading the group over to her office. She opened the door, her offer still hanging in the air, and she watched the other mull it over quickly, before shaking his head and relinquishing his hold on their hands. He turned to smile at them, watching as they smiled and waved, promising to be right outside the door. He nodded, thanking them and stepped in before the taller woman, as she shut the door behind them.
Duo sighed, swinging his legs impatiently as he sat on the cold doctor's table, his son in his lap. They'd been waiting for nearly five minutes in the small room, and the crazy colored walls and cartoon posters were getting to him after his already thinned patience was about to snap. Where the hell was the doctor? Didn't he know that his only son was sick and needed medication now?! What was tak-?
The braided man's thoughts were cut short when the door handle began to shake before the door swung open, to reveal a flushed and scattered looking young man. Violet eyes blinked, as the other smiled and hurried in, his eyes perusing the charts before setting them down and walking over to smile at the small boy in Duo's arms. “Sorry to keep you waiting. There's been a mini outbreak of the flu…we're so busy,” he smiled up at Duo, his pale blue eyes were sweet, and inviting. “I'm Dr. Johanson. It's nice to meet you.”
The braided man nodded, his eyes carefully watching the other, “Duo Maxwell,” was all he said, worry etched on his features as he described the symptoms that little Cameron had been exhibiting.
Almost immediately gentle hands were probing the small boy's, face and the doctor was completely focused. The violet-eyed man took this oppurtunity to examine the flustered young doctor more closely. He was tall, almost as tall as he was, with a slender frame that made him look agile, and he looked as if her were of European decent. His face was narrow, but with strong cheekbones. The sky blue eyes were small but wide and framed with long, thin blonde lashes, much like the shaggy, long mop atop his head. Pink lips were long, and he had a pronounced nose accompanied by alabaster skin.
The auburn haired man smiled slightly to himself as he watched the doctor examine his boy's throat with a quiet intensity. He was handsome, but looked shy and kind in a soft way, it was no wonder why kids took to his tender face. Suddenly lilac eyes blinked when the father caught a hum from the doctor before him. “Well from the chart and the look at little Cameron's throat…” he paused for a moment causing Duo to lean in anxiously.
Cyan eyes flickered over to wide, curious amethysts, “Do you-,” he stood up, straightening away from the small boy's face. Clearing his throat he continued, “Do you mind if I have a listen?” he asked pointing to the boy's back. Duo blinked then frowned in confusion, and the other smiled softly, “May I remove his shirt to listen to his lungs?”
Scratching the back of his head and laughing quietly, a slight red hue smeared across the young father's face, “Oh of course!” he said and began gently tugging at the small top. Then he lifted the small child up and turned him around, in his lap so that he was facing him. The reaction to the boy's back was instantaneous and the doctor gasped softly, then frowned.
Long fingers brushed across the scarred back timidly and the doctor turned to braided man, a slight glare directed in place. “How did he get these scars? Bruises?”
Duo sighed, combing his bangs out of his eyes, “I'm going through a divorce right now…” he trailed off looking to the side, wondering if he should reveal his wife's sins so soon. Suddenly his son's wide tearful eyes and cries of pain echoed in his mind and firmed his resolve, he turned back to the doctor his eyes flashing as they locked with the other's. “She used to beat him while I was away on business. I only found out last week…”
He stopped, only then realizing his grip had tightened unconsciously on his baby's arms, and his protective hold was probably painful for the child. He noticed when the blonde man nodded and turned to look back on the small boy's back. The European believed him but for legal purposes, grabbed the boy gently and lifted him up smiling at him as he carried him over to the other side of the room, making sure the violet eyes couldn't see their father.
“Hey champ,” the man smiled and rocked the boy in his arms gently, “I know you aren't feeling real well, and I promise to make you feel better, but first can I ask you some questions?” Large violets bore into his eyes intensely, and the doctor was forced to swallow at their strong pull, the boy nodded silently, and smiled down on him. “Ok, well Can you tell me about the scratches and the-“ he paused for a split second as the little one wriggled slightly in his hold, “-bruises on your back?”
The young blonde, waited, listening, his eyes quickly glancing up to see the look on the braided father's face, expecting to find a glare or a nervous expression. However, his eyes softened immediately when to his surprise, identical violets were tight, and depressed in what looked like an almost self-loathing expression. The dad was obviously feeling the same, if not more, pain for his son. Bright blue eyes were instantly back on the small mouth though, when the child decided to speak, “Dey are frum mutter's hands…”
The voice was weak, but the words were clear and definite, despite his young pronunciation. Long lips thinned into a stiff line and the doctor nodded in understanding. Silently walking across the room, he gently set the boy in his father's eager arms once more. “May I still have a listen?” he asked quietly, and the man nodded, raising his son's shirt. The blonde lifted his stethoscope up to the battered back, and listened for a moment, asking his patient, in a kind voice to take a deep breath. Moving the small, silver disc across the scarred skin, the young doctor finished up, a conclusion forming in his mind.
He straightened, and turned to pick up the clipboard again. Duo could see the man scribbling on a piece of paper, and figured he must be writing a prescription. Once the man had finished writing he shuffled in his pocket, pulling out a small card, and writing on it as well. “Cameron has the flu,” he said his back still turned for a moment, “I've written him a prescription for some pain killers, but just make sure he gets plenty of rest, and remains hydrated.”
He paused for a minute before turning around and stepping forward, the small card from earlier within his extended hand. “Before you leave, however, I'd like for you to stop by this office,” Duo took the card, and looked over it, realizing it was a business card. Reading carefully he saw that it was a personal recommendation for a child psychiatrist. The woman's office was just across the hall, he looked up when the other spoke again, his voice was soft and his eyes had also softened, “I think it would really help both Cameron and you too if you ever want anything from the divorce.”
The braided man nodded, grateful for the other's help, shoving the card into his pant's-pocket he stood, his son on his hip. “I'll make an appointment as soon as I get home,” he said and began to make his way to the door, only to be stopped by the doctor's next sentence.
“Don't even worry about that,” he said, smiling and stepping forward, “If you're not busy I can call now and ask her for a favor…she owes me,” he grinned and winked. Violet eyes blinked, and the smile was returned. The tall doctor had been standoffish at first, after seeing what had been done to his son, but now he seemed considerate and eager to help.
“We didn't have anything planned, so that would be great,” Duo grinned, extending his hand. The other man took it, “It was nice meeting you, Thank you for everything,” he said turning to open the door.
Walking out behind him, the blonde nodded, “No problem, you go get checked out and I'll call her.” Finishing up, the blue-eyed man stooped forward, smiling at the slightly cranky Cameron. “Good-bye, kiddo. Hope you get feeling better.” The little head only nodded, and the boy managed to bear a smile.
After he checked out, Duo rubbed his son's back unconsciously as he stepped out of the office and across the hall into room 203. His bright eyes instantly noticed the sedated wallpaper, as opposed to the flower and rainbow-plastered walls in the other's office, he also saw that there weren't just children in the waiting room, but instead there were mostly adults. Walking up to the window he smiled at the gray-haired woman seated in front of a computer, “Hello,” he said softly.
Instantly, he was pinned by reddish brown eyes, and the woman smiled under her glasses, that were settled low on her nose, “Hello, may I help you, dear?” Her voice was a little shaky, but still pleasant and he nodded to her in response.
“I'm here for a doctor…” he pulled the rumpled card out of his pocket, quickly reading off the name, “…Montgomery. Alicia Montgomery.” He finished and smiled at the woman. She nodded, still smiling, and handed him a chart asking him to fill it out politely, before asking his name. “Duo Maxwell, and I'm here for my son, Cameron,” he said, taking the chart.
“Ah, so you're Mr. Maxwell,” she said, a knowing smile on her lips, “Well all you have to do is fill that out and she'll be right with you, honey. She's just finishing up with another patient.” Duo nodded gratefully, and smiled walking to sit down and fill out the chart.
Quatre sighed again for the umpteenth time, “I hope he's alright…” he said, his eyes heavy with worry. His hands were red from his tedious rubbing, as he leaned heavily against the wall outside the thick door. He looked over at Sally, who'd been silent the whole time, merely smiling at him when she found it necessary, but otherwise not reacting. The two stood there for only a few more moments before the door handle jingled and twisted, revealing a smiling Doctor, and a slightly tired-looking Heero.
Springing forward, the slender blonde man clutched his friend by both arms, asking him quietly if he was all right while Sally stepped forward, her eyes searching the other woman's. The taller brunette merely smiled respectfully, and nodded turning to look at the quiet youth within his friend's grasp, “It went very well.” At this Sally nodded, accepting the woman's evaluation and she walked away rubbing, the small boy's back soothingly.
Dark sapphires blinked up when he felt hazel eyes on his back, and he nodded to the doctor, who smiled at him. “I'll see you next week Heero. It was very nice meeting you.” She turned to the blonde woman beside him, “The nurse at the front will help you arrange an appointment,” she said before smiling at Heero and walking back into her office.
The trio walked around the corner and to the window, still within the office, waiting for the nurse to come around. Seconds later the older woman scooted over to them and smiled up from her swivel chair, sitting in front of the keyboard and asking Sally when she should book the next session. Heero turned away, his thoughts trailing back over the past half-hour, he could distantly feel Quatre's gentle fingers stroking his hand as he began to recount what he and the tall doctor had discussed.
She had pulled him into her surprisingly cozy office and offered him a seat, introducing herself as Dr. Alicia Montgomery, and saying she felt that since she knew his name he should know hers. The brunette had then proceeded to ask simple questions, such as what he'd done all day and how his week had been. She asked him how he felt, and then began to ask a little about his background, although he knew full well that she was aware that had been a deadly Gundam pilot during the war. She didn't probe too far back, merely settling for the years after the war. She asked him about his likes his dislikes and his hobbies and then it had happened.
“I love sushi too,” she giggled, and then leaned forward, an eager and almost school-girlish look on her face, “So,” she drawled, “Do you have a lover?” The question had caused him to nearly choke on the water, he'd been sipping, and he blushed heavily. The brunette across from him didn't say much, only asking if he was going to be ok. At his nod, she leaned back and waited, watching every minute reaction.
His blue eyes were downcast and he waited for a moment, formulating a proper response in his head before looking back up into her curious hazel eyes. “No,” he said simply then blinked back his emotions, choosing instead to pull a thick wool over his now clouded eyes. She nodded, and looked down to grab at a delicate black pen and scribble something down for the first time.
Her hazel eyes had flashed up to meet his and she'd only smiled, choosing to keep their conversation light for the rest of the session. She was a warm person, and seemed to genuinely love her work and the people involved with her so he figured another appointment wouldn't hurt.
A gentle squeeze on his hand brought him back to the present and bright cobalt pinned smiling aquamarine. Heero tipped his lips slightly to the other former pilot and nodded before turning to look at the braided young woman in front of him. She had a worn expression on her tender face, but she looked relieved as the woman across the counter printed off a form for her.
Heero watched as she turned to them, smiling, and out of the corner of his eye he could see a petite girl in a nurses smock hurry across the other side of the office and disappear into the waiting room. Through the glass off the small nurses' room he could see the young nurse on the other side in the waiting room, and was about to dismiss her when he heard her speak. She had a high and unsure sounding voice, but persistence and a slight sense of urgency rang behind the name as she called out to it. “Cameron Heero Maxwell?”
He froze, feeling every muscle in his body tense, his throat constricted as he watched the tall man stand, a small boy in his arms. The brunette watched as the two made their way, following the nurse quickly through the door and coming out across the office, only to disappear behind a wall. It had all come and gone in such a flash that he hadn't noticed when his blonde host had paled, and the taller blonde beside him had gripped his hand tighter.
Then he blinked, feeling the vice grip, and catching the woman's pallid countenance. He could breathe again and suddenly he felt as if he needed fresh air desperately, needed to get out of the small stuffy office, which he'd been in for such a long time. The taller blonde beside him realized this and tugged lightly at him, nudging them both to the doorway and out of the doctor's office, the young braided woman close behind as the door closed and they made their way down the hallway silently.
The moment the trio arrived back at Sally's home, the anxious Japanese scurried up to his room, quietly, and shut the door without a word. Pale blue eyes watched sadly after the young man then turned to stare into annoyed onyx. “Not now, Fei,” the shorter woman sighed as she threw herself onto the couch, smiling slightly when Demitri promptly brought her a glass of water and two aspirins. She felt the couch sink slightly when her husband's blonde friend sat beside her, weary, as well, from the day's early activities.
Her dark-haired husband, remained standing, however, and began to pace, his agitated aura only aggravating both her headache and her patience more. She waited quietly, only occasionally glancing over to see if he'd figured out how he was going to say what she already knew was plaguing his thoughts. She waited a few more minutes, smiling and greeting the tall green-eyed man when he walked into the room and sat on the arm of her couch. She smiled when he leaned forward to press a loving kiss to his boyfriend's forehead, and rubbed his back tenderly.
That was when her husband began to speak, she turned to him, a look of boredom present and clear in her eyes as she watched him rant, “I've had enough!” he said, taking a few more steps. He continued to pace, wildly throwing his arms over his head, “They've been avoiding each other for a week now, and it's time they get this out in the open!” She nodded, knowing full well to argue with him now would get her absolutely no where except in bed with a raging headache.
Sally was surprised, however, when Quatre spoke up, his voice strong and sure, “You're right.” He stated, stopping the Chinese mid-sentence, and he turned surprised dark eyes to his fellow ex-pilot. The nurturing, mother hen of the group was actually agreeing with his forceful suggestion, and the preventer didn't know how to react. “I think Heero deserves the closure, and Duo needs to get it off his chest as well…” he said trailing off, and grateful that he had his green-eyed lover to support him.
Wufei nodded silently, his dark hair falling forward, “Then it's settled. Tonight we're all going to have dinner together. Sally and I, you and Trowa, Duo, and Cameron, and Hee-“ suddenly the door opened, and the braided father stepped in grinning, his son asleep in his arms. His violet eyes narrowed slightly as he could immediately feel the tense atmosphere in the room, and he walked quietly into the living room.
“What's up?” he asked, knowing full well his friends had been talking about him only seconds before he'd opened the front door. When he asked the question each gaze carefully averted it self from his, and the room was once again silent. He frowned, before he noticed the auburn haired man on the couch turn his emerald gaze towards him. Duo watched as the usually silent man boldly turned to him and spoke.
“We're having dinner here tonight,” he said, and the violet-eyed man eyes him warily, unwilling to believe that was the sole topic of the previous conversation. His amethyst eyes widened however when he heard the other man finish, “With Heero.” The slender father, held his son tightly but nodded, and turned to walk up the staircase, silently accepting the dinner date, but also dreading it completely.
Dark blue eyes widened and compressed silently from up the stairs as the pensive Japanese listened to his friends determine his fate. He had remained silent as the Chinese went on his tirade, and had also heard when the blonde Arabian had spoken up in support of him. He'd bit his lip in confusion and anxiousness as he heard them, but when he noticed the door open and the room go silent he'd clenched is fists tightly, and held his breath listening. The strong and steady voice of Trowa had finalized his fears as he turned with clenched fists back into his room. He would be having dinner with everyone tonight. He would have to talk and eat sufficiently, he would have to face Duo.

I'm so sorry this was sort of a gay chapter but I hope to get a new one out soon! Hooray for REVIEWS!
