Chapter 8

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

After lunch, the two groups made their way back to school, going their separate ways. Duo and Wufei had arrived at Math class first and as per their usual routine, they started on Duo’s homework. The class passed without a fault with Heero refraining from looking at Wufei and Duo, as he walked into the class. He decreased the amount of paper he threw at his boyfriend as well; he hadn’t know that Wufei had thought so low of him.

After Math, the two friends made their way to Gym and Duo counted his blessings for not having yet run into Zechs. Gym passed by in a flurry. They’d played floor hockey again and Duo’s team had won. Duo himself had only been checked once during the game. Unfortunately, the guy that checked him had gotten him in the stomach. It took all of his strength and willpower to stay standing up and not pass out from the pain. The guy paid for if later when he was almost sent to the nurse because Heero had delivered one of his own checks. Duo was sure that the only reason Heero hadn’t gotten in trouble was that the guy was on the opposite team.

Duo was one of the last to leave the changing room after class was over. He took extra caution not to let the other guys see his abdomen, he didn’t need to be the latest gossip around school. Duo made sure that everyone had left the room before he took off his gym shirt and put on his T-shirt. Hefting his clothing bag more comfortably onto his shoulder, Duo left the gym and made his way to his locker. Hilde was already waiting for him.

“Duo! How was Gym? Wufei said you got creamed by Archie or something?” She asked, handing Duo his backpack.

“Yeah, the guy got in a lucky shot. Hurt like hell but he, I’ll live. It’s not like I’ve never been checked before.” Shrugging it off, Duo made his way down the hall in the direction of the drama room. Hilde sprinted to catch up to him but she let the topic drop.

They had done some different things this time around during drama. Mrs Une had wanted to take a break from the plays and had gotten them to do some improvising. Duo found out he had a knack for it, while Hilde teased him that it should be second nature since he was always improvising. They’d also done some role reversals as well as scenario playing. Overall, drama had allowed Duo to get his mind off his current problem regarding Zechs and just relax.

Leaving the room in better spirits then he’d been since lunch, Duo, along with Hilde, made their way out to the parking lot. The two said goodbye to their fellow classmates and friends before they made their way to Duo’s car.

“Duo, why is Heero sitting on your car in the middle of the afternoon, in the school parking lot, nonetheless. I though you guys were keeping a low profile on your relationship?” she asked curiously, making sure no one was around to hear her question.

Duo snorted. “We are. He’s just being over protective and stuff. Besides, if anyone asks, he’s tutoring me in math. It’s not like I don’t need the help and Otto did ask me if I needed a tutor. And knowing Heero, he is going to be helping me do my homework tonight.” Duo sighed as he clutched his abdomen, which was emanating a dull aching pulse throughout his body.

“You are so lucky to have such a caring boyfriend Duo. Sometimes I wonder why I’m still going out with Travis. He only ever thinks of himself and he’s constantly trying to get laid.”

“Why don’t you just drop him, Hil? It’s not as if you need him to survive or anything. And he’s a complete ass; you can do way better than him.”

“I know and don’t worry; he’ll be having a wake up call soon if he keeps it up. I don’t know how much more of his bullshit I can put up with. I’ll find someone better eventually. Hi, Heero,” Hilde greeted as the two finally stopped in front of Duo’s car.

“Comfortable?” Duo inquired, pointing out Heero’s current seating arrangement.

Heero shrugged. “I could think of a better place to be sitting but then again, the school parking lot would not be a good place to demonstrate. Therefore, it will just have to wait till later.” Heero nodded to Hilde as he hopped off the car. “Shall we be on our way?”

Duo blinked as few times as he brought into understanding the implications of Heero’s words. Shaking his head in bewilderment, Duo replied, “Yep, I’m ready. I’ll meet you at my house. I just have to drop Hilde off at home.”

Heero nodded before he got into his own car, beside Duo’s. Throwing a quick wink at the boy, he started the engine and waited for Duo to follow suit.

Rolling his eyes, Duo unlocked the passenger side for Hilde before he made his way to the driver’s side and got in. Starting up the vehicle, Duo pushed down the clutch and put the car in reverse. He loved his standard; how Heero could drive an automatic, was beyond him.

Hilde had rolled down her window before they’d left the parking lot and was now singing along with the radio she’d cranked up. Duo turned left out of the lot and headed down the street. Hilde only lived a few blocks away from his house, so on most days, he either picked her up for school or dropped her off. Either way it was on his way.

“Say Duo, what do you think Wufei will do when he finds out that you and Heero are going out? I mean, he can barely stand Heero now as it is,” Hilde asked after turning down the radio so that they could hear each other.

“I don’t know. He would probably freak. Not so much that I was going out with Heero but probably for not telling him. After all, Wufei is a good friend and he does help me with my work. He would probably be insulted as well, thinking that I didn’t trust him enough to tell him about Heero,” Duo replied as he down shifted to turn a corner.

“Yeah, probably. Say, why is it that he doesn’t like Heero anyways?” Hilde asked as she glanced at Duo before turning her attention to the passing scenery.

“I’m not sure; I know that a lot of it has to do with Heero throwing things at me in Math. However, I think there is some unknown reason that he won’t tell me. Heero probably accidentally insulted him one day or something. Who knows, I try not to understand the mystery that is Wufei.”

“Probably.”

“Hey did you want to hang out this weekend or something. I’m done work at six on Saturday and Sunday. You can sleep over Saturday and I can bring you home Sunday on my way to work. What do you say, Hil?”

“Sounds good. We can rent some movies and stuff. Duo, you guys still have that extra cot?” Hilde questioned as she looked over at Duo.

“Yeah, it’s somewhere; I’ll look for it when I get home. I’ll even get Heero to help me.” Duo grinned at the girl as he pulled into her driveway.

“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow at school. I don’t need you to pick me up or drop me off. Thanks for the ride, Duo.” Hilde gave her friend a quick hug before she got out of the car. Closing the door, Hilde waved to Duo before she made her way into the house.

Backing out onto the road, Duo headed home. Pulling into his own driveway, he noted that Heero was already there.
