Chapter 2
It would take us a couple days to get to this Dracous City, luckily, as we walked we found some fruit trees, and managed to climb up one and gather some apple- like fruit. Though not the same, it tasted wonderful to the two of us hungry travelers. Heero, though not completely the best, seems he kept quiet to himself was always willing to try his hand at something, one night, as it started to storm, Heero helped me in building a shelter out of a cave to help protect us through the night.
....
It was late night when I woke to find Heero missing from beside myself as I shifted out of my position. After a look around, I decided best to go for a little walk, and look around. Before long a stream stretched out beside me, so I followed it upstream curious as to the source of it's water. As I neared the base of a mound of boulders, I noticed someone singing, as though it was wisps of air that they collected and wove into beautiful harmonies. As I approached the edge I saw it was Heero, who sang, gently bathing himself in the clear pool that had collected from a small waterfall, not far off. Sunlight streamed down from between the treetops as he bathed in it. His skin glistened with the dewy drops from the pond. I listened, silently for a while, before I whispered, "Beautiful.",
It was barely a peep, but he heard, and quickly drew himself under water before coming up again. "Duo.", were the only words he said after he'd come back up.
I climbed down as low as I could before I took off my clothing, save my boxers, and swam out to meet him in the center. "Your singing, it's wonderful, where'd you learn it from?", I asked.
"My creator taught me how, he made me to be perfect, but... I was flawed, I...", a sigh escaped his lips, "He says I trust too many too much, and someday that will come back to hurt me.",
"Awe, it's okay to trust people, you just have to be certain that they won't hurt you before you do.", I shrugged.
"I think I see.", Heero stated.
....
After getting dressed, and again helping Heero (Though he was getting better at it.) to do the same. We both headed off, eating a couple of the strange fruits we had gathered a day before as we walked. "You said that you're not from this world.", Heero said, "What is it like from where you come from?",
"Well, it's a lot more crowded, tons of people, streets that are black, hard and smooth, and you have cars that you can drive anywhere you want, instead of taking days to walk...", I explained, "There's always a place to buy food at, or to stop off and sleep at. Buildings that stretch to the sky. There, the leaves on trees, and grass are green, and the sky blue. Everyone is always going someplace, doing something. Everyone's free, and it's peaceful..",
Heero looked at me, his eyes dancing with imagination over what it would be like. "You're buildings really touch the sky?", he asked.
"Oh, and there's an endless amount of these.", I stated, rummaging through my bag to pull out a Twinkie that I had forgotten about until then, "Here, you can have it, I waste my life on empty calories.",
He took it, opening the plastic, and taking the sweet cake out of it. "It smells sweet.", he stated, before taking a bite.
A light of satisfaction lit up his face as he slowly ate the bit of food. "What about here?", I asked.
"I know about as much as I learned from my Father's lessons.", Heero stated, "There is a major war between two nations at this time, but that's far to the south, and up here, there are four to five major kingdoms, the one I mentioned earlier belongs to the Dragon Riders of the Northlands, they are protectors to this whole northern continent. The others, Pevilion, Sckit, and Bolivorea kingdoms are mainly traders among themselves, and the Dracous Kingdom.",
He finished the Twinkie after he had stated that. "What did you call that thing again?", Heero asked.
"A Twinkie, it's basically a cake, with cream in the center.", I explained.
....
It was late afternoon the next day before we made it to the place that Heero had said we were heading. The streets were packed with people riding dragons of a variety of colors, and a palace, that was huge, and that's where we were heading. Many of these people were odd, some had ears, and tails like cats, others looked like elves from fairytales... I looked around, trying to take it all in at once. Not before long they had arrived at the palace doors. "Do you have a prior engagement with the Dragon Lord?", a tall, yet, rather medium sized blonde asked.
"Um... No, not really, but... We came to request some supplies, and transportation to get through the mountains to the Northern Plains of Winter.", Heero said.
"Oh, okay, let me just make sure that he wishes to hear your request.", he responded, "By the way, I'm Milliardo of Pevilion ranks of the Dragon Riders.",
"Okay, Milliardo.", I stated.
He disappeared behind the large doors, a couple minutes later coming back... "You may see Lord Chang as soon as you have rested from your journey, and eaten.", Milliardo answered, "If you would like, I shall take you to your quarters for tonight.",
"Thank- you.", Heero whispered.
So we both followed him though the winding halls and climbing stairways to where they would be staying the next couple of days. "I hope you two enjoy your quaters, and rest well tonight, I'll come get you before dinner.", Milliardo then nodded his head of blonde hair, before shutting the door behind himself.
"So, I want to take a look at that wing.", I remarked, "I won't hurt it again, that part was just to get the bone back into place so it would heal correctly.",
Heero come close enough for me to take the bandages off, and the splint, and feel lightly where the break had occurred. "Looks like it's healing pretty well, I'll find something cleaner to bandage it with.", I said to him.
"I'm going to bath myself first, then you may.", Heero remarked, before heading to the bathroom.
"Then, I guess I'll just... Relax right here until you're done, then I'll take a bath.", I stated, laying down with my hands behind my head on the feather down bed.
"Okay, and then, we can take a nap together...", Heero added.
That is exactly what we did too, Heero fell asleep with his one good wing wrapped about both of us. His soft feathers brushed my skin, sending sensations of warmth throughout my body. I wondered if I should just.... No, I couldn't, not unless Heero felt the same....
....
It was the same person, Milliardo who knocked just as we both were getting ready to go outside of our room for the first time since we had arrived. "Dinner is being served in the west dinning hall this evening.", he said, "Follow me.",
So we followed him once again through the twists and bends of this palace until we stood outside massive wood doors with carved dragons, embedded with jewels, and trimmed with gold. All he did was whistle and they flung open as if by.... "Magic.", Heero muttered.
"Lord Chang will join us soon.", Milliardo said.
In the meantime, I looked about my surroundings. The walls had elaborate tapestries of wars, or battles that you only would have imagined from the middle ages. In each corner stood a large, marble dragon with diamond colored eyes, and the windows stretched from near floor, to about two feet from the beginning of the ceiling. That, which in itself was the grandest thing of all, it was decorated with a large painting divided into sections, with very detailed dragons, and their riders. In the center of it all hung a large chandelier made of various colored gems, sending what seemed like a pattern of colors across the room with the setting sun's rays. On the very end sat a red ruby, but it was obviously meant to represent something else. "I introduce to you, our guests, Dragon Lord Wufei Chang.", Milliardo announced.
I looked up at what seemed what would have been an Asian in my world. He wore a plain, white outfit and had his shining, black hair pulled back into a short ponytail, making his onyx eyes very visible. He looked at me before whispering to Milliardo, then turning to us. "I am glad to welcome you to our home.", he said, "I have decided that you will go, yet, the rest of the formalities are yet to be decided, such as dragons, food, and provisions in general.",
"Thank- you, Lord Chang.", Heero said.
"Now, let the meal begin.", he announced.
Hence, the dishes started to come. Four to Six courses.... I felt the happiest I'd been since I'd arrived there....
It wasn't long after that the meal was over, and Lord Chang decided that we would discuss amounts in the morning. As I lay, waiting for Old Man Sleep to take me, I felt a connection, odd as it was, to this place, as though I belonged here more than home. I dismissed it as just adjustment to the changes.
