Christmas Gifts Chapter 2: Duo's Gift

"Hey Trieze I was wondering--GAH! Could you two please do that in private," a certain green-eyed boy shouted, walking in on his friend and pet doing it on the counter.
"Why'd you have to come so early," Wufei stated, but left to the back room none-the-less. Still having his pants on, Trieze merely greeted, "Why hello, Trowa. What may I do for you today? Are you dropping off any new DNA samples?"
"Yes, I have a few more for you. Also, I was going to ask if I could purchase one of your 'special' cats, for my brother," the green-eyed boy explained.
"Oh really? Wow, that makes two," the older man stated.
"What do you mean? You actually sold one to another person? Who," Trowa asked, a little surprised. Smiling, Trieze answered with, "Just some guy, who was also buying one for a sibling. Anyway, here is the application, and just add what type of hair and eyes he likes on his lover."
"Will do. Oh, should I make a note that this project should be male?" Nodding, the blue-eyed man asked, "Why are you buying one for him?"
"Oh, to see how these pets turn out with another person. I thought it safe to assume that since I provided the DNA samples, I'd be held partly responsible for this if it ever failed and we were sued."
"You don't trust how Wufei acts with me?" Shaking his head, Trowa replied with, "It's not that. I just want to make sure it isn't the case where the first one turned out perfect, but the others after that turn out like crap. Besides, not many people will buy these provided just one success story."
"Ah yes, I understand. I'm so glad you're here to help me Trowa. Without you, none of this would be possible," Trieze responded.
"No need to thank me. You're the one who came up with how to make them, I just provided the DNA. Okay, I'm done filling this out. Now to write that check," the green-eyed boy replied, handing over his application, and then took out his checkbook.
"Hm? Duo Maxwell," Trieze read outloud.
"Yes? What about my brother?" Taking a bit to answer, the other man thought, /Why does this name seem familar?? /
"Um...why do you and your brother have different last names? I thought your names were Barton," he asked finally.
"We're half-brothers; we have the same mom," Trowa explained, having written the check. Handing that over, he was about to leave when his friend asked, "Why don't you buy one for yourself, Trowa? I'm sure I can make one to your liking."
"No thanks. I don't want to pay anymore than I all ready have. Unless you want to give me one as a gift? If so, make it female." And with that, the Latin boy finally left the small building. Thus, leaving Trieze to go back to his pet, who by now was falling asleep.
"Wake up my little dragon," he said in a soft tone.
"I'm a cat." Yawning, Wufei then asked, "I thought Trowa was gay, why did he say he'd want a female?"
"He enjoys both sexes my love, now wake up, so we can finish our play." Stretching, the cat-boy was a bit jolted as he was spanked on the rear.
At the park, which seemed to be covered in snow, the green-eyed boy found a bench, and sat quietly by himself. He quickly spotted a couple holding hands, and walking by happily. /I wonder if I'll ever see him again? Hm...probably not. Our chances of meeting again are as slim as my brother getting together with... Damn it! Why'd he have to die?? Why didn't I keep in contact with him? /
What was causing his melancholy, were the recent DNA samples he had gotten for Trieze. Technically they were very easy to get, but emotionally, it was the hardest thing he had to do. The entire conversation he had in the pet shop was just a facade to hide his true reason for getting his brother a pet. His real reason was to try and save his brother grief.
You see, other than working at the zoo, the green-eyed boy worked part-time at the hospital. In doing so, he was able to extract blood from human patients, without them knowing what their blood would be used for. It wasn't like these people were going to meet the recreated versions of themselves. That's what Trowa thought at first, and so decided it would be best to get blood from patients who had all ready passed from this world.
In fact, the DNA that helped in creating Wufei came from a little boy who died of a fatal disease. Of course, thanks to genetics, the cat-boy was able to be created without any illness in him what-so-ever. Two out of the three he had just given Trieze, came from two guys who died in an automobile accident. Yet they weren't just ordinary boys to Trowa. They were people he had went to school with. One of them were a best friend of his, and he felt terrible upon seeing the corpse.
Then there was the third sample, which unlike the others, had been taken from a live patient. He only did it, because the boy had thought he was doing medical research, and volunteered to help.
/I only hope he forgets about me, and I hope I don't encounter him again. I'm afraid of what I might do. He was so beautiful...I'm glad he wasn't dead though, / Trowa thought to himself, trying to be happy, if only for a second.
After a while, it started to get dark, and it was then that the green-eyed boy decided it was time to go home. It didn't take him too long, and he knew better than to rush, because no one would be there to welcome him. There would be no messages on his machine, not even from his brother. He was all alone in that house, especially now.
Suddenly, his phone rang. /That's strange, no one calls me. Wait, the zoo calls me. There must be an emergency with one of the animals, / he thought quickly and picked up the phone saying, "Hello is something wrong?"
"Huh? No, there's nothing wrong with me," he heard his brother's voice say on the other line. This was a surprise, and a big one at that. Why was his brother calling?
"I just called to tell you that I got you a different type of gift this year. I know how you have plenty of books to read, and stuffed animals aren't really your thing. That and those sweaters, which are nothing but pieces of crap anyway, have become too expensive for my liking. So I got you something else, something you won't expect."
"A gift certificate," Trowa replied sarcastically, his emotional mask now in place.
"No, and I'm not telling you anything more about it, okay? So, did you get me a gift yet, or are you clueless as to what to buy," Duo questioned.
"How'd I know you had an alterior motive? You called just to see if I got you something didn't you? Now look, before you give me some excuse, I have bought you a gift. A really good one, unlike the one you probably got me."
"Hey, why are you getting all hostile on me? I was just curious! And by the way, what was wrong with the gifts I gave you last year, or the year before that anyway? You enjoyed the book, and said your friends at the zoo liked the stuffed toys," the braded one retorted.
"Simple, I'm hostile because you don't ever call unless you want something from me. In this case, it's info. As for the gifts, sure I enjoyed the book, though I kinda stopped half-way through it since it was so boring. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to go to bed with a cool head. Oh, and when I said 'friends' I meant the lions." With that he hung up on his older brother.
"Asshole," Duo said after hanging up himself. His younger brother could be a real jerk sometimes. Not that he was any better. Besides, he knew why Trowa was so angry. It wasn't because of his actions alone, but because of everyone's actions towards him. He remembered how his brother used to be really happy when they were very little, but once they started going to school, things changed.
Duo was like a shining star, while his brother was the empty space people floated around or away from. He always seemed invisible, and his best friends were animals. That's why he preferred to work at the zoo and with dead people. They'd listen to him speak. Unlike everyone else in the world, who just ignore him, or only talk to him when they need something from him.
/I'm such an asshole! Here I am telling him off, when he's just trying to be friendly with me! I hate this... / Trowa thought, shaking slightly. It was no wonder he had few friends, and he was just lucky that Trieze became one. If that man hadn't had visited so often at the zoo, and tried to converse with him, he might have never have gained one single friendship. Not that it could be considered real, seeing as the green-eyed boy was nothing but a fabricated joke.
Then again, there was that blonde boy. He seemed just as persistant as Trieze, and kept trying to talk as well as listen to him. The Latin boy was being given attention he had never been given before. It was a great feeling, but he knew it couldn't last. The boy was from a rich family, and he was a guy. Either way, he headed off to bed, and tried to sleep his pain away.
Meanwhile, at the pet store, the two lovers had finished their play, and figured they may as well start on making the two upcoming cat-boys. Only, they found a surprise when they took the two applications out.
"Hey, this one is for Trowa," Wufei said, and then added, "Wasn't the guy who ordered this one named Duo Maxwell?"
"Yes, and here is his check. My, my, it appears they both bought each other a pet," Trieze responded, looking at both documents carefully. Smirking, the raven-haired boy stated, "Looks like they'll both get a surprise this Christmas."
"It appears so." With this thought in mind, the scientist started to see what DNA samples his friend had given him that day.

Hope you guys are enjoying this so far, I'm having a pretty good time rewriting it all. It's much more deep than the last one, which was practically pointless. Anyway, I'm off to write the next chapter, so wish me luck!
