Chapter 2
Author: Nekocin
Disclaimer: the characters from Gundam Wing do NOT belong to me. The film "So close" also does NOT belong to me. Half the plot belongs to me so please try to enjoy.
Author's notes: I've been playing with this idea for a while about killing and stuff. This is not really that original because it's based on an action film "So close". So producers, writers and whoever is involved in this film, please forgive me if I'm taking some pieces from the film to write my fanfic.
* ^_^ Thanks Storm_410. I really appreciate it that you've pointed out most of my mistakes ^_^'. I hope this chapter isn't so confusing. ^_^.
~...~ some poem.

"Thank you for stopping by" The woman behind the counter smiled as she passed a bag to one of the costumers. The man was wearing a loose jacket over a white shirt and a pair of jeans. Noting from his eye color and hair, he was the same person who had jumped from a building.
He nodded a silent 'thank you' and grabbed the bag. He stuffed one hand into his jacket's pocket and walked out of the Orchid bakery. As he walked out of the shop, he smirked triumphantly. Today's job wasn't so hard after all he was one of the best in his field.
The street wasn't quite overly covered with cars and he make for the other side of the street. Looking at his feet, he walked on the pavement and was reticent about the many things around him. He began to play with his memories and remembered the time when he was just as old as his younger brother, Quatre [1].
Going to school, he was so carefree back then except the fact that he wasn't as distant as his younger brother. He only had a few good friends, who were quite patient with him being aloof, because he wasn't someone who can be social through his looks. Also unlike his younger brother, who didn't have friends at all. He knew that Quatre had been isolating himself from his classmates for 10 years.
Suddenly he crashed into someone and something like a rope whipped across his face [2].
"Oops, sorry man. I was just..." The man, who had bumped into him, grinned and gasped when he looked through the dark bangs of the man in front of him [3]. "Heero?"
Heero blinked, as he looked confused at the man in front of him.
"What a surprise! You sure haven't changed a bit, huh Heero?" The man grinned. Heero observed the man in front of him and dug into the farthest corners of his memories. Where has he seen this face before? The same childish-looking face and the owner was wearing black pair of jeans and a black jacket over his black shirt. Black. It seemed familiar...
"Hey! Don't tell me you've forgotten me?! I'm hurt!" The man pouted and clutched his chest dramatically as his long dark brown bangs framed his face. Heero noted that the one standing in front of him has a pair of very expressive, big cobalt blue [4] eyes and yet... they seemed quite familiar. They seemed to be the same pair of eyes, which had been haunting his sleep.
Heero blinked and finally blurted out. "Duo"
"Finally! Do you know how it hurts when you've forgotten me, Hee-chan? It took you just about..." Duo looked at his watch. "Twenty seconds to remember my name. Aa, anyways, where have you been? You haven't contacted me in along while. I was wondering where you might have been hiding. It was like as if you've just vanished from the surface of the earth. So how have you been?" Duo grinned and swung his face to the side, throwing some of his bangs away from his eyesight.
"Something bad had happened back then. My brother and I had to move away and afterwards I was just hooked up with work" Heero gave Duo one of his smallest smiles. Oh, sure he didn't forget that face. He just couldn't forget that person in front of him. He was the one who just appeared in his wet dreams [5]
"Hey, you there! Aren't you...?!" Someone called and Duo stiffened. His face paled a bit and Heero wondered what was wrong. Duo noticed the confused look and wanted to laugh out loud. But he quickly squished that thought, because they were getting expectant glances from bystanders.
"Duo? Duo Maxwell? Are you...?" one of the passing schoolgirls cooed as she was pointing at him. Duo grinned and grabbed Heero's arm.
"Run!" Duo whispered.
"What's going on?" Heero asked and found himself being pulled along.
"AAH! IT'S REALLY HIM!" the girls squealed and Heero flinched. //What's going on?// Heero thought and tried to keep up with Duo. He sure didn't like it when someone was hauling him around, especially while screaming girls were following them.
"Man, I should've worn my trench coat, my sunglasses and my cap! I knew I should have!" Duo cursed softly while Heero froned deeper. //He's hiding?//
"AAH! IT'S DUO MAXWELL!" Heero flinched again when the girls screamed.
"Duo! Mind telling me what's going on? And where are you taking me? I've left my car behind, you know?" Heero hissed.
"Great! You've a car! All we've got to do is outrun them and get back to your car! And I'll explain, wait... where have YOU been? How can you NOT know the reason why they were chasing me? Don't you watch the billboards or something?" Duo panted and turned around the corner.
"No. But my brother does" Heero narrowed his eyes as they were heading into a dark alley.
"Shit [6]! A dead end" Duo cursed under his breath when he saw the wall ahead of them. He began to laugh nervously. "Well, buddy. I don't know this town so much and I think we're cornered. Be prepared for the screaming ladies and their determination to touch me"
//Or do you mean, they will tear you apart?// Heero thought and looked up at the wall.
The shouts were getting louder as Duo fidgeted with the end of his braid. "Here they come..." he swallowed and backed his way against the walls. He could clearly hear the girls shouting his name out with a lot of affection. In any normal situation he would be flattered and yet he sure felt embarrassed about all the attention. Besides, he's popular. He has the looks, the voice and the personality. Who can't resist his wonderful voice [7]?
"Duo, step on my hands!" Heero said as he clasped his hands together.
"What?" Duo blinked.
"Just do it! I know you still have some of your physical abilities. Now hurry up! My brother is waiting for me." Heero growled and Duo raised his hands up in defense.
"Okay! Okay! Don't be so stuffy!" Duo put one of his feet in Heero's clasped hands and found himself climbing the walls.
"Be prepared!" Heero said and pushed Duo over the wall without any effort. Besides he didn't weigh much for a slender guy anyways.
"Whoa!" Duo gasped and landed on a few dirty bags. He quickly scrambled back on his feet.
"Hey, Heero! That was so nice of you! Dropping me on this garbage!" Duo said sarcastically and dusted his clothes.
Heero picked up the bag, which he'd left on the ground and looked at his right.
"Oi, Hee-chan! Can you still hear me? I think you should get going before my fans are going to run you over" Duo called as he could hear the many screams coming nearer.
"Hn. Let's go" Heero said and came out of the shadows. Duo's jaw dropped. "How did you...?"
Heero snorted. "You think that I'm going to push myself over the wall? It's no big deal"
"Hey! You did that on purpose!" Duo scowled and Heero smirked, blinking innocently.
"What did I do on purpose?"
"Yea, yea, yea... whatever" Duo snorted and stopped abruptly. He glared at Heero "Don't give me that look. It doesn't suite you one bit for a moment there. Wipe that smirk of yours away with some soap or something!"
"Live with it! And I thought you didn't mind me doing something fun"
Duo's anger disappeared and smirked evilly. "Sure, I don't mind and I still don't. So Mr. Smarty-pants, do you know your way out of here? I can't wait till I really get my hands on you"
Heero snorted and walked around the corner.
"Hee-chan, you still haven't changed that scowl of yours" Duo chuckled and winced when he heard the shouts were frantic, because the girls couldn't find him in the alley.
A few minutes later Heero had led them through various dark alleys and around abandoned areas. At last they stepped into the a familiar neighborhood, knowing that just maybe they can just go away without any fans following them around. Speaking of fans, Duo's fans to be precise... what DID Duo do for a living.
Heero wondered as his eyes lit up when he spotted his car in front of the Chemist's. "So this is your car! You have taste, Heero" Duo smirked as he observed the car. It was smoothly covered in the color grey, marked with one of Japan's famous car trade-marks; A Honda. It also has dark windows, making it very easy to hide from anyone.
Both of them stepped in to the car and Heero turned on the ignition.
"Aa... before we go off, where are we actually going?" Duo fidgeted nervously with his fingers as he looked forward.
"Nowhere in particular. Just give me your current address and I'll send you home while you explain yourself" Heero said flatly and slowly, but carefully rode on the main road.
"Start from the beginning. Why were they following you?"
Duo blinked at Heero and grinned as he lapsed his hands behind his head. "You sure are getting denser by the minute, Heero. Like I've asked earlier, haven't you watch the billboards?"
"And like I've answered, no. Only my brother does" Heero countered as he narrowed his eyes at the road.
"Smooth answer, but not satisfying" Duo sighed and dropped his eyes. "After you've left I went on to find a career and was lucky enough to find such a wonderful job..." Duo trailed off as his eyes looked up at Heero, waiting for any responses. But seeing that Heero made no attempt to comment or anything, Duo just sighed again and leaned closer to his chair.
"A job which I love so much. A job I've always wanted, a job where I can be myself. Only me and my voice."
It sounded familiar, Heero noted. It was definitely the same words which Duo had used when they've asked him what he wanted to do with his life.
"A singer"
It was not a question, but a statement that made Duo grinned.
"I'm glad you still remember our conversation. What about you? If I can remember you've always wanted to become a Mechanic or... was it an Accountant... no... an Architect?... Heck! You've given me various ones I believe. Oh, how is life by the way? Are you still that gloomy like in the old days?"
Duo looked expectantly at Heero, who didn't dare tearing his eyes away from the road to glare at Duo for mentioning the years he'd spent in college, trying to make a difference between him and his friends.
A painful silence embraced itself during that moment and it stung both of their hearts. Seeing that even though when they were such good friends in the past, the other one just can't seem to trust him with something very important or rather something very secretive.
//Should I tell him? Or not? If he knows what I've been doing for the past few years he will eventually be disgusted by my way of living.// Heero winced inwardly when he felt something sucking the life out of his heart. He was having his doubts whether to trust this 'BIG' secret to his friend or just rather someone he liked.
Duo was his friend indeed. One of the only friends who didn't care how many threats he'd flung at his direction and also who didn't distance himself from anyone when he knew his friends were having problems. Like a real, true friend.
"I've a job that can not be openly embraced by the community" Heero said flatly and Duo shivered when he heard that creepy voice, which he was so used to opening Heero's problems.
//Something might just be too awful to reveal, I guess// Duo shrugged half-heartedly, not really satisfied with such a blank answer. It just makes no sense to Duo. Heero was intelligent enough and had enough diplomas to show off. //He might be having business problems... some business people always tend to become workaholics.//
Heero groaned inwardly and mentally wanted to smack his head against the walls. He'd lied to his friend. Well, not actually a lie, it's half the truth... but it is supposed to be the truth. Then again it didn't sound like one and Heero knew that Duo wasn't convinced by such a simple question.
Even though Duo doesn't pry someone out about their personal information, because he knows when someone was having problems. And Heero's 'job' IS a problem. During the ride, both o them were in their own thoughts. It seemed like the brainstorming was just beginning as the silence took advantage of that intense moment.
*~*~*~*~
Quatre was visiting the cemetery and was wearing some formal clothes. Clad in a thick jacket and kneeled beside a gravestone. A normal engraved gravestone with the names of both his parents: Odin Winner and Zubeida Winner.
He clasped a huge bush of flowers on either sides of the gravestones and beamed.
"Hi, mom, dad. It's been a long time since I came here and I apologize for not coming out earlier. I've been a good boy, I can tell. I still listen to onii-chan and let him rant all day long even though I know he's not the type to reveal most of his so-called 'private' thoughts" Quatre spoke cheerfully and took out a small camera. He smiled as he placed it between the gravestones.
He played the current video all over again as he began to play with the flowers and dart around the graves. Any normal person would just shudder when you dance around a place where a lot of dead people were being buried, were being forgotten.
Only the cheerful chatter from the small camera can be heard through the small cemetery and Quatre was walking around, picking wildflowers out. Sometimes being there alone seems soothing, because there he could allow his playful character out.
>> A small blonde boy was smiling with glee at the screen.
"My name is Quatre Winner. I'm 6 years old. This is my birthday present mom and dad had given me." the boy grinned and the screen was turned up-side down to show a family in a living-room. The screen turns to a man who was behind his computer.
"This is my dad. Daddy, what are you doing?" The small voice squeaked. The man grinned and slid his glasses back up. "Well, I'm working on my latest project -PANORAMA- It's a very important project too." the man smiled as the screen turned to a smiling woman and an 12th year old boy with the faintest smile plastered on his face.
"That is Heero 'nii-chan there. He's 12" The voice of the same small boy squeaked and the 12 year old gave him a grin.
"That's mom..." The screen turned to a smiling woman.
"Quatre, when something happens to either both your father and I, I want you to obey and listen to your 'nii-chan so you won't get into trouble" The woman smiled.
"I will, mommy. I will" The small voice squeaked.<<
The screen went black. Quatre didn't notice that the camera was done playing the film, but simply walked around the other graves in the attempt to keep some other graves 'clean' from any wildflowers.
Before he knew it, time wasn't standing in one place and it was almost time for the afternoon snack of his. And his brother should be home right now from their mission.
He took one last look at the graves after putting the camera back inside his pockets. "Bye... for now..." he smiled softly and when he stepped out of the cemetery grounds his smile faltered. It was going to be a serious 'vacation' for him.

*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile in one of the big buildings where the assassination in front of everyone had been attempted a large group of investigators were sprawled across the the whole floor, trying to find some evidence. They tried their hardest not to cut themselves through the scattered glass fragments.
"I don't understand... the security officers claimed that they were having difficulties with their securities when the assassination was attempted right in the daylights. Isn't that odd?" One of the lieutenants commented as he looked at the researchers searching the place frantically for any fingerprints or something useful.
"I mean most assassins do their work at night. Why does this particular assassin takes the risk to show her face? according to the security officers it's a she, but I doubt if any woman can do this kind of clean work. Look at the nice shots. 'She' seems to be a a great shooter especially for killing just about the 30 of the guards..." Another commented and spotted someone very unfamiliar between the other researchers.
He was sitting on a ladder and seemed to be examining the ceiling. "HEY! what are you doing up there?" "Researching. It seems this is a really neat gadget. A Zero covered G-one inspectator [9]" Emerald eyes glazed down at his superiors who were just staring angrily at him.
"A what the?" one of them narrowed his eyes as he looked up at the weird-looking guy perched on a ladder just to check on a ceiling. //Who does he think he is? Doing professional works// the other growled inwardly.
"What the hell are our doing here anyways? Come down from that ladder. Who are you?"
The guy climbed own gracefully and one would just stand in awe, he had a strange hair style. The brown bangs were covering half of his face, making it different for most people to read his expressions. But from the deep green eyes, the superiors could tell he was showing some triumph.
"Agent Barton" the man said as he took out his ID card which he was wearing around his neck.
"Aa... you're the new kid. A rookie. Well, sorry son. This case isn't for a rookie like you. This case can only be touched by professionals. So beat it!" One of the men scowled as he swung his head to the exit.
Agent Barton didn't take it personally and just walked past the two superiors. Anyone who's very stubborn would have stood up for himself and yell at them till their ears were bleeding. Other than searching for a fight against his superiors especially when he's still a first level officer, he chose not to disobey their orders.
"Who's that guy anyways? And what's with the weird Zero something something whatever gadget he'd mentioned" one of the superiors scowled darkly.
A black-haired girl turned around and smirked. "That's Trowa Barton. He's American's best Psychiatrist and had helped them with a lot of their cases too..."
Both of the men looked at her.
"And who are you?"
"I'm Ron Meiran. I'm his assistant" She smiled briefly and noticed their dark glares.
"What are you still doing here?" one of them said darkly.
She blinked and smiled. "You told him to go away not me, so I'm still researching..."
She got similar dark glances and laughed nervously. "Okay, okay... I'll leave this case..." Meiran slipped past both inspectors and followed Agent Barton through the halls.
"It doesn't make sense... this whole thing seemed to be getting weird around this so-called Computer Angel. The whole assassination was brought out in daylight, which is quite unusual" Meiran sighed as she dropped her shoulders while following Agent Barton. They stopped for a while and Agent Barton leaned against the walls. He crossed his arms and seemed to be thinking too.
"They're right that women can't do this job so squeaky clean..." Trowa said slowly as his eyes never wavered from looking down at nothing.
"EXCUSE ME!!" Meiran shouted and Trowa looked surprised at his partner. The girl's face was reddened with fury as she stomped forward.
"I DON'T THINK YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, BARTON! BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE GOING TO INSULT ME RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE!" her voice echoed down the halls and Trowa felt his ears were stiffened by the sudden loud shout.
"I still think it is, but I'm not sure... I've my doubts. Do you have anything...?" Trowa said, seeming unaffected by her angriness as he pushed himself off the walls.
"Yes, a tape. The security officers had picked up a song during the assassination" Meiran said, anger forgotten and she took out a tape recorder. She clicked on the PLAY-button and a soft but soothing melody filled the halls. It was the same song, which had been played when Angel was killing the guards while she wanted to escape the building after having killed the chairman Mr. Foul.
Trowa closed his eyes, trying to mesmerize the melody and letting the clear words flow down his soul. It was soothing indeed and a very good choice for those who are quite stressed out. But what's an assassin doing with this kind of music?
"This music is our first clue" Trowa snapped as he slowly tried to capture the supposed scene of the killing in his mind.
"Great! So where do we have to go next?" Meiran beamed as she pushed the STOP-button.
"Good. Now I've to go home to think" Trowa said and left Meiran in the halls to o some researching for him just in case his superiors had missed some places.
*~*~*~*~
Quatre took two plates with a piece of cake towards the living-room where they've planted their computers. About 12 computers to be exact and most of them showed some scenes from the building where the investigators were taking charge of.
He put down a plate in front of Heero, who was eying the screen critically and Quatre sat down across the table.
"Eh? What's that?" Quatre said suddenly when a mop of something brown was covering the screen.
"Hair" Heero said flatly and narrowed his eyes.
"Hair? Do you think they've discovered us?" Quatre was surprised, but his brother's face never wavered from the screen.
There was a brief view of the person who was looking at 'them' and it really caught Quatre by his neck. Have they been discovered? So fast? That's impossible.
Even the person there has 'impossible' hair. His face was half covered by those long bangs.
"Follow him!" Heero grunted and the computer screen switched to the guy with the strange hair entering the elevator.
"Don't underestimate him just by looking at him..." Heero said and put the last piece of cake in his mouth.
Trowa was leaning against the walls and folded his arms in front of his chest. He was having a brainstorm in his brains and stared intensely at the closed doors. Quatre watched him kick the side walls as if he was hitting someone and giggled. "Crazy"
Heero pushed his chair back and went away with his plate. "Keep an eye on him. He might be getting in our way"
Quatre watched as his brother walked towards the kitchen, but before he walked in he turned around.
"Quatre, do you know someone from the billboards or something like that by the name Duo Maxwell?"
Quatre blinked and tried to register the question slowly into his brains. Did his brother just show some interest in music? All the sudden? That must be kind of a joke, right?
"Yes. He's the one who'd sung that melody we've played. Why did you ask?" Quatre beamed and Heero noticed the twinkling stars in his brother's eyes. Heero gave a half smile and went into the kitchen.
"Nothing. Just asking... How come I've never heard you talk about him? I mean I've been listening to that song for how long and I don't even know the artist!?"
Quatre flinched when he heard his brother's statement. That is true though. "You'd never asked. You just ignore any artist, because you think they're the same. Duo Maxwell has a good voice and the way how he danced was cool! I've some VCDs and DVDs in which he was performing his latest concerts..." Quatre beamed again with a huge smile.
"I'll watch them upstairs" Heero said and walked up the stairs.
"Speaking of music, whoa... 'nii-chan, since when did you pay attention to music?" Quatre called and Heero shrugged.
"I don't know..." came the faintest answer and Heero was off in Quatre's room, rummaging through stacks of either Cds or VCDs or DVDs.
Quatre smirked and shrugged that weird feeling that was tugging at his heart. There was something his brother didn't want to talk about. Something very embarrassing maybe. Aa... maybe Quatre could use that to blackmail him or something, but then again... he'd just promised his parents that he would be a good boy.
He turned his gaze back to the screen and enlarged the space on which he'd clicked. The ID card was still hanging around Trowa's neck and Quatre took a clear view of the unfazed picture. He typed a few keys and went into police records. Waiting for a while, the code had been cracked and a large photo of Trowa was on the screen with some personal information.
Quatre read it carefully and clasped his hands in front of his mouth.
"Aa... agent Trowa Barton. Your birthday is on the same day as 'nii-chan's. What a coincidence! No wonder you're so intelligent like him"

End chapter 2
Author's notes:
1: See first chapter when Quatre was at school. Explains the one from the other end of the line, right? ^_^' He's easier to guess.
2: Most fics has these encounters, right? I'm quite disappointed why I choose that scene too -_-. But anyways, I'm not going to change it.
3: Hope that this one is not confusing. It's Duo who gasped when he looked up at Heero ^_^. Clear, now?
4: I'm using 'cobalt blue' for Duo's eyes, because I've been checking out multiple colors from a painting book, which explained about basic colors and various ones too. Most authors write "violet' or 'amethyst'... I've checked those colors and they really don't match his eyes from the anime. Sorry ^_^', but everyone has a free opinion about how his eyes should be called, right?.
5: ^_^' Ehehehe... Uhm, just don't get weird ideas, because I'm not going further into details ^_^'.
6: Uhm... don't you think I should put there "SHIMATTA!" ?
7: Duo's Japanese seiyuu, Mr. Seki Toshihiko, sings quite well. I recommend you to go listen to Duo's image songs even though I also love the other image songs ::sighs:: All of them ^_^.
8: This poem is written by BHAI. This poem is quite abstract. It's translated literally from my native language so if they're any errors... I think that's how the poem should be translated.
9: ^_^' Don't ask what it is. It's just a made up name.
