Filth in the Beauty
Brown, almost black eyes stared at the linoleum that made up the floor of the medic wing. Wu Fei didn't know how long he'd sat there staring, but he knew it'd been a while. “A freshie…” He mumbled to himself, unable to completely fathom how this had happened to him.
The doctor, as if sensing that it was a good time to start explaining everything that being a `Vampire' entailed, sat forward in his chair and made a little `aheming' sound like he'd done when they'd first met. “Agent Chang…” He began. “Being a vampire is not as bad as it is made out to be. But I will only give you the facts and let you decide for yourself.”
A genuine smile appeared on Dr. Raugust's face as he set back again. “Like all other creatures on this planet, Vampires have a set of instincts and needs coded into their DNA. Vampires, being a man made mutation and not a natural one makes finding what these instincts and needs almost impossible. We do, however, know the basics. A major basic is blood.” The doctor paused there for a moment.
“Blood is a major factor of Vampires. Freshies, such as yourself will only feed on fresh human blood. They need very little, a mouthful or so a day. The longer you go without fresh blood however, and it could become dangerous. I'll explain that a little more later. Bagged vampires can survive off of bagged medical blood. They can also eat regular food as well. Since their body has not completely shut down the internal organs to preserve blood usage. They can drink fresh blood, but too much without balancing it out with bagged blood could cause them to become a freshie.”
Wu Fei sat silent thought out the explanation. He knew something that had to do with Duo would come up sooner or later and he wasn't sure if he was going to like it at all.
Dr. Raugust again paused to make sure he was paying attention. “This is an important part.” He said seriously. “There is a state which Vampires may go into sometimes. It has several different uses. One of them is to `court' a mate. Another reason a vampire would fall into this state is because the body is not getting it's nutrition from blood. This state is called `Blood Lust'”
Wu Fei's lips had started to twitch up into a smile at that. “Is there something that amuses you?” Dr. Raugust said frostily.
Agent Chang's head snapped up and he whipped the smile off of his face. “You said `mate.'” He said seriously. “Do th…we mate for life?” He asked, fixing a `they' to a `we'. He wasn't sure if he would like the aspect of being tied down to a single person for the rest of his life because his blood said so.
The older man nodded and ran his fingers through his hair in almost a frustrated way. “Yes, `Vampires' mate for life. Like a pair of swans. We have yet to figure out why, and there are some differences. One is that there is a possibility that there will be more then just two Vampires in the…” He hesitated in saying `relationship.' “Union.” He finished. “It is also set up a little differently then a `Union' between two `humans.' For instance, in a Vampire union between two people, the oldest of the pair the `maker' would be the dominant and the younger or the `fledgling' would be the submissive.”
Wu Fei made a disgusted noise. No one was going to dominate him! He would kill them first. Dr. Raugust's eyes went as hard as granite and he spoke in a low tone, reacting to the negative noise that the agent had made. “You think just because you are the `submissive' that you will be viewed and treated like a lesser person don't you?”
Wu Fei didn't bother to deny it. The doctor shook his head and met Wu Fei's eyes again. “I am going to tell you this once, and only once.” He said icily. “Just because they are the `submissive' does not entail that they are lower then the dominant in any way. The dominant is simply a title given to the `maker' of his `fledgling' because he is the `teacher' and nothing more. You are thinking in terms of your culture. And it is simply not the case. A dominant can easily be told no.” His voice got softer as he went on, his eyes taking a far away look in them.
Wu Fei let himself chew on that, trying to distinguish it from what he'd been taught as a child back on L5. It was hard, but he'd been trying to keep an open mind about things since he'd called Sally a `baka onna' and been stabbed with a needle for it.
Sighing and nodding his head, he knew that it would take a lot more work to actually accept it, but he would try. Then, he remembered who his `maker' was. Wincing visibly, he cradled his head in his hands and bit back a groan. Duo Maxwell was going to be his `Dominant,' his `Teacher.'
Dr. Raugust bit back a laugh as he guessed the agents train of thought. “There are some pros to being a `Vampire.'” He said to console Wu Fei. “For one, if a Vampire gets hurt the healing time is literally cut in half. Also, depending on if the Vampire is a Freshie, there will be generally no scaring of the skin. This is caused by the lack of ability to make scar tissue. The DNA will just tell your body to make new skin under the scabs and it will be linked together as it is made. For a bagged however, since the internal organs are still pretty much intact, there will be minimal scarring. Not as much as a normal human would receive though.”
Wu Fei nodded, that was indeed a plus considering his job description. “Another plus.” Dr. Raugust continued. “Is the increase of speed, agility, and strength. The reason for these changes is because of the DNA. In your brain the restrictors that keep you from destroying your body disappear. Of course, with a Vampire's quick regenerative abilities, this wouldn't be a major problem. However, if used too often it could cause major harm to the body.”
The older male took a pause to take a sip of water before smiling at the agent. Wu Fei was starting to feel a little over whelmed by all this information. The doctor nodded his head as if sensing his weariness. Wu Fei had to give Dr. Raugust a good once over. He must have underestimated this man. He knew he might have had more slips then usual from his normal mask, but he couldn't be that easy to read.
The doctor just chuckled at the look and waved it away with his hand. “I have only a few more things to talk with you about today. Sunlight is one of them.” His smile was a little more forced now. “Freshies, because of their blood, have a slight aversion to the sunlight. On colonies, it is not as bad because all the light there is false.(1) But on Earth, they will generally do everything they can to keep out of the sunlight. I am going to tell you a theory on this, but no scientist can say for sure. This `mutation' was caused on L2 when it's government decided to release a plague to get rid of the homeless, instead of killing about…3 out of a hundred people, it mutated into these `Vampires.' Since it is mostly dim on L2 because of lack of money to waste on lighting, the virus and the Vampires do not need much too any light to see by. Thus the sun and harsh lights hurt their eyes and can burn them severely.”
Dr. Raugust looked at Wu Fei. “Am I to assume you've been avoiding the sun mostly?”
The sloe eyed man thought about it for a moment. He did start to notice that he arrived at work before the sun rose and did not leave until after the sun had set. He also noticed that his office did not have any windows. He looked at the older man and nodded his head. It seemed like everything he thought had been `normal' for his acceptance of a world during peace had turned out that he was becoming a…..'Vampire.'
The pale man nodded his head. “Vampires are also very sexual creatures…” Was the beginning, Wu Fei felt his stomach drop into his lap and his cheeks heat up visibly. “But I am going to let your `maker' instruct you on issues like that.” The doctor finished playfully, catching the agent's reaction.
Wu Fei nodded his head, grateful. The older man suddenly became serious again. “I only have one more thing to say Agent Chang.” He stated formally. “If you do ever fall into `Blood Lust,' I highly recommend you do not fight it. Not only will you loose the battle, you would completely ruin any chances of regaining yourself. After the initial falling in, you can pull yourself out; only if it is because the lack of nutrition. If it is for a mate, then you have no chance of pulling out of it.”
Wu Fei did not like the sound of that, but he nodded anyway. He doubted he would find a `mate.' By the sounds of it, his `mate' would be Duo and the Deathscythe pilot had disappeared right after the last war.
Dr. Raugust smiled and stood up. “One last thing before I leave you to your work Agent Chang.” He went over to the door and poked his head out, asking someone to come in.
Wu Fei sat up straight and made sure that his `I'm a rock smooth and emotionless as stone' mask was in place. He did not want another agent to see him in any state that would make them think that they could take advantage of him. Instead of another Preventer however, a woman came in, petite and smiling. She practically glowed with beauty.
The ex-pilot stood up to greet her out of habit and nodded to her, his facial appearance not changing. He did think she was beautiful, but he had no lust for her. He had a brief thought that he should at least want her, but it was gone just as quickly as it has entered his head.
Dr. Raugust closed the door behind her and smiled at Wu Fei. “Agent Chang, this Amelia. She will guide you on…feeding.” He finished his sentence slowly, as if talking to a small child.
The small child in question blinked his sloe eyes once before he glared at the older man. “No.” He stated firmly. “I am not going to…drink her blood.” The last part was said with a hiss, turning his back on the both of them.
This went against his code to protect the weak. She was indeed weak. He knew it by the way she held herself and how open her face was. She'd never known pain or suffering.
Wu Fei could practically feel Dr. Raugust's disappointed look on the back of his neck. However, before the older man could say anything, a Preventer ran into the room, letting the door slam into the wall. “Agent Chang!” He called out, eyeing everyone in the room. “Lady Une wishes to speak with you. She said it is top priority.” He didn't even sound apologetic for interrupting what they had been discussing.
Nodding his head, Wu Fei stalked after the lower ranking agent. As he walked passed the two, he gave a curt nod of acknowledgement to the doctor before he was out of the door and hurrying to Une's office. Lucky for him, Lady Une's office was only a couple of hallways from the medical unit.
When he reached Une's assistant, he was automatically waved in. It was a little strange not to have to wait, but he nodded to the assistant and went in. When he opened the door, he was caught a glimpse of a side of Une that she never showed. She was worried. “I'm not even going to make you sit.” She said simply as the door swung shut behind Wu Fei. “Heero Yuy has not been at work for three days. When I sent an Agent over to his apartment he reported hearing scuffling and whimpers inside of the apartment. I denied him permission to break into the apartment.”
Une stopped there, took off her glasses and methodically started cleaning them. “I have agents staked out at all available exits to the apartment and I want you to go in.” Her eyes locked onto Wu Fei's sloe ones, imploring him to understand and accept. Of course, Wu Fei couldn't refuse; he and Heero had been comrades in war.
Nodding his head, Wu Fei walked out of the room without waiting for a dismissal. He knew time was not on his side at the moment and he wanted to get there as soon as possible. Stopping by the armory, he grabbed a few extra clips for his gun, made sure all his knives here in place and then headed out; calculating the time it would take to get to Heero's apartment while using the speed limits.
Of course, he made it there in half the time. His brain had been going over what he'd learned today and what it would mean to his future. He was so caught up, that he didn't even notice that the sun was set and darkness swept over the city. When he arrived at the building, it not only had been evacuated, but a few Preventer agents stood at each exit and entrance. He dimly heard that there were no other Preventers on Heero's floor as he passed the checkpoint, shoving all thoughts from his mind except for the mission at hand.
He opted to take the stairs instead of the elevator incase there was really someone inside of Heero's apartment. Using the stairs not only cut down on the amount of noise he made but it would give him a surprise. Heero's door was close to the entrance to the stairs.
When he got up to the last floor where Heero was staying, a sweet tantalizing scent reached his nose, making his step falter for a second. His brain was confused about what it was, but his body urged him forward to get to the scent. His body craved it. Wu Fei never noticed that his mind started to shut down and his body started to take over.
His feet moved forward and his hand reached out for the doorknob that was so close to his fingertips. The cool metal of the knob did nothing to clear the fuzziness from his mind. The door was unlocked; a small thought made its self known, Heero would never have been so careless as to leave his door open.
The thought dimmed and disappeared as he opened the door and the scent grew stronger. The strong scent sent his blood boiling in his veins, searing him from the inside. One more step and he was inside of the apartment, standing in front of the open doorway. Wu Fei didn't even have time to blink before the door was slammed closed behind him and there was a person on his back.
As if all those years Martial Arts and training how to become a Gundam Pilot had never occurred, Wu Fei simple struggled. His mind yelled that he needed to use a specific technique to get the person off of his back, but his body refused to listen.
Finally, the man fell off of his back and Wu Fei tumbled forward, landing on his hands and knees. Turning so that he was sitting on the floor, he came face to face with none other than Heero Yuy. The tantalizing scent came from him and Wu Fei's brain stalled completely. Heero was covered in scratches, blood and spandex shorts, but Wu Fei's sloe eyes were caught with Heero's glazed blue eyes.
They were both completely still as if they were two predators stalking each other. An unfamiliar part of Wu Fei's mind seemed to wake up and give the scent coming from Heero words. Lust, Blood, Hunger and Need.
Heero Yuy was in Blood Lust and Wu Fei himself was quickly following him.

By the way, thank you for all of the reviews. I promise that all the more information will be given about these `Vampires' in upcoming chapter. About how Duo became a `Vampire'… I hope it was clear in how the species started. But if it is not, it will be explained when Duo appears.
