Discovering Magic Within

"Maybe you just have the magic touch" Quatre suggested innocently, but he had no idea how meaningful one word in that sentence was.

"Don't you ever say that word again!" Mia cried furiously, advancing on Quatre. Quatre shrank back in horror. He had never seen anyone this mad before. The girl raised a hand to hit the blonde but stopped just in time. "I'm so sorry" she cried and turned around and ran back into the barn.

'I wonder why she got so upset over me saying 'magic'' Quatre thought worriedly as he went after her.

He found Mia huddled in the far corner of the barn. He took a glance at the horses but they seemed to be sad, not dancing cheerfully, as they had been moments before. "Mia, are you alright?" Quatre asked tentivally, placing a hand carefully on her small shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Quatre" she sobbed quietly.

"It's alright, no harm done" he said gently, sitting down beside Mia.

"I forgot that you didn't know" she explained softly.

"Will you tell me?" Quatre asked curiously. Mia hesitated one moment before she turned to look Quatre in the eye. For the first time, Quatre got a good look at Mia. She had hay colored hair that went half way down her back in a thick braid. Her misty gray eyes shined slightly with unshed tears. She seemed small for her age and she had a pale face. She was wearing a faded green dress that went down to her ankles.

"I suppose it won't hurt" she muttered and took a deep breath. "This town is very popular for witch burning. The village chief stated that any person that showed any sort of magic would be burned at the stake. I had 5 older sisters. Odd things kept happening to them so the chief declared them to be witches and I was forced to watch them burn at the stake. Those memories still haunt me and I'm afraid that I'll be next. Rumor has it that my family is cursed" Mia explained bitterly.

"That's awful! I'm very sorry. I wouldn't have said it if I knew it would make you upset" Quatre apologized sincerely. Mia smiled weakly.

"Don't worry about it. There was no way you could of known" she reassured him, standing up and brushing the hay from her dress.

'Oh really' Quatre thought amusedly. 'I wonder what would happen if I told you that I already knew.'

A few minutes later, they heard the back door to the house open and close. "Mia! Mia!" a high-pitched voice called out.

"Come back here squirt!" another voice called out, but this voice was lower. Mia giggled.

"Come on Quatre. It's time you meet the 2 terrors I look after" she said and started to walk out of the barn. When Quatre exited the wooden building, he saw a little boy running across the lawn towards them. An older boy followed closely behind.

"MIA!" the little boy squealed and attached himself to Mia's leg.

"Sorry Mia. He got away from me" the older boy panted a few seconds later as he approached them.

"It's alright Duo" Mia said warmly, then she turned to Quatre. "Quatre this is Duo, Duo this is Quatre".

"Hi" Duo said cheerfully. Quatre liked the boy immediately. Duo was a bit taller than he was. He had a tanned cheerful face and huge violet eyes. A long chestnut colored braid ran down his back. He was wearing a pair of faded black pants and a light purple tee shirt.

"Hi" Quatre replied, with a small grin on his face.

"And this little devil is Solo" Mia finished. Solo glanced up at Quatre, his deep green eyes gleaming with innocence. Before Quatre had a chance to say anything, Solo stuck his thumb in his mouth and hid his tiny tanned face in Mia's skirt. Solo too had a tiny black braid and was wearing faded blue pants with a green tee shirt.

"Nice to meet you both" Quatre said politely, then he noticed something strange. Duo seemed to be tapping his foot and shifting his waiting, looking expectantly at Mia.

"Did you make your bed" Mia asked sternly, holding back a sigh.

"Yes" Duo replied happily.

"Did you eat breakfast?"

"Of course"

"Did you wash your dishes out?"

"Um...yes?" Duo tried to sound convincing but he failed miserably. Mia glared at him, trying to stay angry but his pleading violet eyes got the better of her. This caused her glare to soften.

"Alright. You win. You can go off and play but you better be back by dinner time" the girl warned. Duo flashed a toothy grin.

"Alright. I'll be back by then. Bye!" he cried cheerfully as he ran off in the direction of the village.

"And don't forget......"Mia's voice trailed away. She knew that Duo wouldn't pay any attention now.

(A.n-there's a bit of 1+2 here, nothing major but if you don't like, don't read. Also, Heero might be a bit OOC...I can't help that. I can never seem to write a story where's he's actually not OOC)

Duo walked happily along the worn trail that would bring him into the heart of the town. When he knew that he was out of Mia's view, the braided boy darted off the path and into the dense forest. 'I can't wait to see Heero' Duo thought excitedly, pushing past a prickly bush, being careful to avoid the prickles. After pushing a few more branches away and hopping over some granite rocks, Duo had reached a well-traveled path that snaked through the trees. As he started skipping (not literally skipping but you know what I mean), his long braid bouncing, he didn't notice the signs of a struggle in the dirt. Once he passed a withered oak tree, somebody reached out and stopped him.

"Hello Heero. I thought I was meeting you at the crest" Duo said calmly as a chocolate haired boy stepped out from behind the tree.

"I thought I'd surprise you" Heero replied in an equally calm voice. Prussian blue eyes stared into violet ones. A slight breeze drifted by, ruffling Heero's unruly hair. Duo couldn't take it anymore. His face broke into a large grin and he embraced Heero warmly. Despite Heero's stoic features, he returned the hug with feeling. After it had ended, Heero took Duo's warm hand and started pulling him down the path. "Come on, let's get going".

"What's the hurry?" Duo asked curiously, letting Heero drag him up a small hill.

"Hn"

"Not going to tell me, eh?"

"It's a surprise"

"Oh really. And what if I want to know now?"

"You're waiting"

"Stubborn"

"Got it from you"

"Very funny" Duo replied sarcastically. 10 minutes later, Heero started to slow down. Now Duo's curiosity was at its peak. This wasn't the way to the crest. Heero stopped infront of a leafy tree and pulled one of the branches aside. The mystery was at last revealed.

It was a beautiful glade, bathed in sunlight that had some how managed to find a way through the blanket of tall trees. This sunlight made the water glitter like tiny crystals and there was lush, dark green grass the made the glade have even more of a mysterious aura. Birds twittered from the shadows and a spotted frog hopped over Duo's foot.

"Wow, this place is amazing! How did you ever find it? I thought I knew this forest like the back of my hand" Duo marveled, titling his head up and spinning around slowly to take in every aspect.

"I was walking home one day when I noticed a squirrel enter these bushes so I followed it and it led me here" Heero explained, shrugging his shoulders. Duo stopped and faced Heero.

"Was this the surprise?" Duo asked, taking a step closer to his friend. Heero shook his head. "Well, then what is it?" The slightest hint of red appeared on Heero's cheeks.

"I need to tell you something" the stoic boy muttered, looking away. Duo's heart was racing.

"Is something wrong?" he asked nervously, wiping his sweaty palms on his black pants.

"Nothing's wrong" Heero replied softly. He took a deep breath and turned to face the braided boy. "I...I love you". Duo nearly fainted at this comment.

"Um, am I hearing you correctly?" he stammered, taking yet another step closer.

"Yes you are" Heero confirmed, edging closer as well.

"I have to admit that I never thought I'd hear those words come out of your mouth" Duo admitted sheepishly, taking one final step.

"Neither did I" Heero admitted, also taking his final step. Now there was only a few centimeters separating these 2 souls. Duo could feel Heero's warm breath on his cheek as they were drawn together by some mysterious force. One pair of lips brushed the other pair gently. Sparks seemed to fly from the 2 figures in the clearing as they jumped back from one another, but were pulled back together by the force called love. As their second kiss ended, Duo smiled. Heero looked up at him quizzically.

"What are you smiling at?" Duo's grin widened.

"I love you too Heero"

"Baka" and the 2 were brought together for their 3rd fateful meeting.

Okay, that was bad. * groans* I think I've lost all my inspiration...hopefully, it'll get better in the next chapter. Please review? Even if you don't like it...I could use some constructive criticism
