Disclaimer-Fine, Wishful Thinker(a.k.a Hobbitdweller) doesn't own gundam wing or anything related to it. Happy?

Warnings: this is a 1+2 fic and rated R for rape in later chapters. Rating may go up depending on how I write that scene.

Discovering Magic Within

The sun had risen and was casting a light glow over the grass covered yard. The faint clanking of a milk bucket could be heard as a petite girl walked across the lawn. She started swinging the bucket slightly as she approached the barn. The old wooden door creaked slightly as she opened it and then closed it behind her. She rounded the corner and let out a gasp. There, at the end of the barn hallway, was a boy lying in the hay.

"Um, excuse me, but what are you doing her?" she exclaimed. The boy awoke with a start.

"Oh, um, hi?" he stammered, sitting up.

"That doesn't answer my question" she retorted, going closer. He appeared to be around 14-15 years old. It was hard to tell, but under the layers of dirt, his was a light blond and he had fair skin.

"I'm very sorry but I was running from something and I was very weary and I feel asleep here" he apologized politely.

"I'm not mad, just surprised. It's not everyday I come in here and find a boy sleeping. My name's Mia" she replied warmly, sitting down beside him in the hay.

"I'm Quatre" the boy replied shyly.

"Well Quatre, you're welcome to stay here for a few days but you're got to get cleaned up first" Mia said seriously, standing up and brushing the hay from her faded dress. "You stay here. I've got to milk the cow but I'll be back". Mia wandered over to one of the many stalls and opened the door to let the animal out.

A fat black and white spotted cow lumbered out and walked to the middle of the hall and stopped patiently infront of an empty milking stool.

Mia laughed. "Good girl Yuki and I only had to ask once!" she exclaimed happily. She walked over and sat down on the stool and started to milk the cow. In 10 minutes, Mia had collected 2 buckets of creamy white milk. Yuki then walked casually back into her stall. "I didn't even have to ask this time" Mia commented, then she turned to Quatre. "Don't move I'll be right back" she ordered and walked out of the barn with the 2 buckets of milk.

Quatre glanced out the barn window and watched the girl walk back across the lawn towards a fairly large 2 story wood house. She opened the screened back door and slipped inside. "There's something about her" Quatre thought curiously. Shouting could be heard from inside the house. Quatre then happened to notice that many of the horses and even the laid back cow were dancing nervously in their stalls.

"Oh boy, I don't think they're supposed to act like that" he thought nervously, backing away. He didn't notice Mia exit the house and walk back towards the barn.

"Um, Quatre? What are you doing?" she asked as she entered the barn. Quatre had been attempting to climb into the hayloft to get away from the horses. When he heard Mia's voice, he sheepishly climbed back down, blushing furiously.

"Nothing. The horses were just acting a little weird" he explained hurriedly. Mia cast a glance to all the horses in the stalls. They were standing there camly, eating their morning breakfast of hay and feed.

"They wouldn't hurt a fly" Mia giggled. "They're little angels".

"Little angels my foot" Quatre murmured, eyeing them suspiciously.

"Stop worrying and follow me" Mia commanded, walking back out of the barn. Quatre followed, eager to get away from the 'harmless' horses.

Mia walked around to the back of the barn to where the rain barrel was. "Lucky for you that we just got some rain a couple days ago so you'll have fresh water" she commented joyfully, tipping the barrel over and pouring the water into a round metal tub that was next to it.

"What are you doing?" Quatre asked curiously.

"What does it look like I'm doing" Mia retorted, straightening up. "You need to get cleaned up so here's you water".

"Won't anyone see me?" Quatre asked nervously, glancing around.

"Trust me. Nobody comes back here. Now hop in, I've still got other chores to do" Mia replied impatiently. Quatre's jaw dropped open abruptly.

"You're going to stay here?" he exclaimed quietly.

Mia sighed. "Of course I am. I have 5 little brothers and I take care of 2 others. I know how through a job they do of washing up. So take off those rags of yours and get in. I'm sure I can find you some other clothes to wear". Quatre eyed the glistening water and gulped.

"Fine" he muttered and got into the tub with all his clothes on.

Mia groaned. "Stop fooling around. you ain't got nothing I haven't seen before so take off your clothes!" she growled. Quatre blushed again and stared into the water as he took of his tattered blue shirt and dropped it outside of the tub. "And your pants" Mia prompted. Blushing even more, Quatre slowly removed what remained of his black pants and tossed them to the grass where they fell, next to his shirt. Only after removing his clothes, he felt the full temperature of the water. He started to shiver violently.

"It's fffrreezzing" he stated through chattering teeth.

"Cold water washes off dirt better" Mia explained, trying very hard not to laugh. She picked up the bar of soap she had brought with her and proceeded to scrub Quatre's filthy back furiously. "Here" she commanded sternly, passing him a wash clothe. "You can do your front".

"Thanks" Quatre mumbled and dipped the wash cloth into the water and started scrubbing.

"So Quatre, where do you come from?" Mia asked curiously. Quatre shuddered as memories came flooding back to him.

"I've been running for some time now. Almost a year I think. Our village was attacked and I was the only survivor. The thing was still after me though and I ended up here" he explained, shivering even more, not just from the cold. As Mia washed his back, she could feel everyone one of his bones.

"The poor thing. He must not have eaten for awhile" she thought worriedly. "Don't worry. you're safe now" she said reassuringly, pushing her own doubts to the back of her mind.

"What about you?" the blond asked curiously.

"Well, I come from a wonderful, caring, large family but we are very poor. When I was 6, I was hired to take care of this family who had just lost their mother in a terrible accident. Their father is the village chief and he is very wealthy so I can help support my family" Mia explained, moving to put soap in Quatre's disheveled hair. He relaxed under her gentle touch.

"This is just like being back at home" he thought dreamily. His dream was interrupted however by Mia pouring a bucket of clean, cold water over his head.

"ACK!!!" Quatre cried, splashing water all over. "That's really COLD!!"

Mia grinned. "I know". Now free of dirt, Mia could tell that Quatre indeed had blond hair and fair skin. "I don't believe it, there was a boy under all that dirt" she teased, standing up. "Here, dry off and I'll be right back with some clothes". She handed Quatre a towel and walked back towards the house.

A few minutes later, Mia returned with a pair of brown pants and a tan T-shirt. "These should fit" she said happily, handing them to the towel-clad Quatre.

"thanks" he replied gratefully and headed into the barn to change. He came out a few minutes later, with the clothes on and towel in hand. For some reason, he kept glancing behind him as though someone was following him.

"What's wrong now?' Mia asked curiously. Quatre looked over his shoulder once more.

"I truly think those horses don't like me" he explained nervously. Mia had to sigh once again.

"How many times do I have to tell you? Those horses have never hurt anyone and I've been taking care of them for 10 years now!" she said patiently.

"Maybe you just have the magic touch" Quatre suggested innocently, but he had no idea how meaningful one word in that sentence was.

TBC

ooohhhh, what a cliffhanger (not!). I wonder what word it will be and why Mia will be so upset about it. Heck, I don't even know and I'm the author!! How pathetic is that?

Anywho, I'm still looking for a muse. And I promise I'll update quicker next time!!!
