Chapter #10: Alien Companions [Part 2/2]: Agendas and Parents?

The next morning, the pilots returned, Amber once again triggered the door mechanism and stepped in, followed by the others. "Hey Phoenix… I hope you weren't too bored without us during the night," Jessica looked up at her gundam. "I wasn't bored, I had someone to talk to, the talk was… enlightening," the gundam replied. "You could definitely say that," Came another smug voice. Everyone turned and noticed that all the other gundams had their eyes glowing, even Wing Zero, "Holy SHIT! Phoenix what did you do?" Jessica gasped. Phoenix replied, "I gave each one of them what I was given," it said. Duo moved closer to Deathscythe, "So Deathscythe… you're sentient now, cool," he said. "I hope you don't mind, brother," the black gundam replied. It shocked everyone the fact that Deathscythe used the term 'Brother'. The other pilots closely examined their gundams; Heero and Wufei didn't seem to be pleased at all with the latest development.

"Guys…" Quatre said, he was already in the cockpit of his newly sentient Sandrock, "Check channel 10, you will find something fascinating," He said. The other gundam pilots checked their video links.

On them the President was making a speech in regarding to the aliens, the alien king and general were standing behind him, "Today we welcome our foreign visitors with open arms like we would many others. It is my best wishes that they are treated with the respect and care that you would treat one of your own and that you do not let your differences get between what could very well be a great alliance. I hope everyone can have open hearts and open minds toward our visitors during their stay. Let this visit end in peace and with friendship. Thank you." Applause broke out from the spectators and King T'lon gracefully accepted them by bowing his head.

Quatre didn't need to raise comlink because Sandrock, raised them some time before, the gundam seemingly knew what Quatre wanted to do and did it, "Thank you Sandrock," he said. "My pleasure Master," the gundam replied. Quatre then turned to the others, "So… I guess the aliens will be settling in," he said. "I don't know, something about them makes me jumpy, the king seems all-cool, the general, he's about as stoic as Heero, I don't like the look on his tin-face," Jessica said. Heero grunted, "I resent that," he said. Laughter erupted from all the girls, all but one, Mandy didn't find it funny, not one little bit. The guys just grinned amusedly and Duo chuckled.

Well back to installing the lighting, it won't install itself," Jessica muttered as she grabbed a cable and jumped off the cockpit platform. "She sure has guts to do that," Amber speculated. "Why wouldn't she? She's a fricken showoff," Mandy replied. "Seems so," Sage added. The guys were already down and working on the lighting when the girls joined, leaving their gundams to stand there in a semi-bored state. Phoenix continued its study of humans, keeping a close eye on all of them.

Meanwhile, on the alien mothership, king T'lon sat in his imperial chair on the bridge, watching the blue planet below, they have moved the craft out from behind the moon, it was now quite visible in the night sky as the brightest star in the sky. He liked the humans; they are primitive, but charming. Any other specie they met was terrified of their large ships and their own large size, but humans were different. Just today he was presented with a drawing done by a human child of himself, it was a bit off, but the king found it charming, the girl surely got the colors right.

The general approached, "Sir, the humans said we can use their northern mining facilities to get the ore we need, we could establish a base as soon as ten earth solar cycles from now," he reported. The king looked at him in the eye, "Well I'm not sure about the base, but tell them we'll be sending some men down to pick up the ore, and… General Aeros, don't make any foolish moves," the king warned. The general nodded, bowed lightly and left the king alone to his thoughts.

Back on earth, the gundam pilots were just finishing up on their work, the last light fixture was installed and Heero was putting the fluorescent rod lamps now. Jessica was standing some distance off drinking water out of her bottle. "Hey, how about we take the big guys out for some exercise, how about we get some training done," Mandy suggested. "What are you crazy? This cave isn't that far off the road, we'll be spotted in a nano second," Sage replied. "I agree with that," Heero said between grunts of effort, the last light rod wouldn't go in for some strange reason.

Mandy was chuckling because Heero continued to struggle with the last bulb, it just wouldn't go in to place, "I don't know, with the aliens looking like they look, people would think they were some of the alien's technology," she said. "Still too risky," Heero said, with a grunt he finally managed to wrestle the light rod into place, the last fixture finally gave light. "I'm bored," Amber complained. "Hey how about we drive down to blockbuster and get a movie?" Katie proposed. The guys looked at her with a raised eyebrow, "No chick-flicks… promise," Katie said, they shrugged, it escaped everyone that Katie had a grin, and her fingers were crossed behind her back.

So they sealed the chamber again and walked to the car, Heero once again took the front seat, lately it has become 'Heero's place' in the car. Sage volunteered to drive, soon enough they were on their way home. "Heero I don't believe you struggled with that light rod," Amber was still laughing at the incident. Heero grunted in response, "I say that rod should be officially named 'Heero', both are stubborn bulls," Jessica added. "Jess, stop teasing him," Mandy as always jumped to Heero's defense. Sage grinned, she knew what was coming; Mandy has signed a warrant to be teased by the girls.

A second later Jessica and Katie burst into an off key song about love, barely trough the first verse they burst out laughing at the priceless expression on their friend's face. Mandy promptly went red and Heero ignored them all. Duo was laughing, Quatre futilely tried to hide his own mirth. Even Trowa, supposedly the stoic one of them, couldn't help but grin in amusement. Wufei just had that look that said 'Baka Onna's' without him actually speaking the words.

Amber had tears of mirth in her eyes and she was laughing very hard, so hard she had to put her hand on Quatre's shoulder in order to keep herself upright. "You two are so cruel," Amber told her two friends between chuckles. Jessica and Katie exchanged high fives, "Hey, cruel is our middle name," Katie chorused, "No kidding," Jessica replied. Sage saw a fine opportunity to throw in her own two cents, "Jess, I thought your middle name was 'Marie'," she said cockily. Jessica immediately stopped laughing, "How many times did I tell you, never mention that name!" she told Sage sternly.

"So what's your full name anyways?" Heero picked up on Sage's plan and decided to go for the knockout punch. Jessica growled audibly, "Oh fine I'll tell you… my full name is Jessibelle Marie Bailey, happy now?" she gritted the name trough her teeth; it was quite obvious she hated it. Jessica kicked back in her seat and pouted at them all muttering something that remotely sounded like 'omae o korosu Sage'. "That sounds English," Duo commented. "That's because it is, my family has 'proper' English bloodline that could be traced back to the last century. I'm the brat of the family; every woman in my family wears skirts… I prefer pants," Jessica muttered. "You sure don't seem too happy, whit bit you?" Sage wondered, usually Jessica would shrug jokes like these off, why was she taking it into offence now. "Oh nothing Sage… I just found my best friend is a backstabbing traitor, drop it ok?" Jessica continued to pout the whole way home.

They arrived home in under an hour, it being somewhat late in the afternoon. After dropping off Katie at her house the girls retreated to their rooms to do whatever. Jessica and Sage were still at odds. Amber was watching TV and munching on popcorn along the way. Heero was sitting on the sofa in his usual, spandex and tank top; he was reading a book, only remotely glancing at the TV.

Suddenly the doorbell rang, "Heero be a dear and go get it, it's probably the pizza Jessica ordered," Amber muttered. Heero grunted but got up anyways, he made his way to the door and undid the locks, swinging the door open, before him stood a woman, and a man, with suitcases. Heero's eyebrow climbed up, "Heero! The money is on the stand beside the door, sheesh you're slow!" Amber got up from the TV and walked into the hallway, she looked up at what was taking the perfect soldier too long, immediately she froze, "Mom? Dad?" she whispered. Before they could reply, her eyes rolled to the back of her head as the girl collapsed, Heero being close by, thought it was the civil thing to do, he caught her, feeling suddenly very out of place with Amber's father death-glaring him.

Author notes: Why did Amber faint at the sight of her parents? Stick around to find out! All that and more will be revealed in the next chapter!
