Chapter #21: Saving Private Mike

Jacob looked up at the giant machine standing before him, wondering for a fleeting second if the pilot was crazy enough to fire that giant rifle. He saw something shine in the air as another angel-winged machine descended, landing in a heavy thump. "I would suggest you release me, I don't think she's bluffing," Mike commented.

"Now, now, lets not be rash… come down from your mechas, I would like to talk to you," Jacob said up at the machines, not sure if the pilots could hear him. There was a moment of pause as Phoenix put its rifle away. It's wings folded as the cockpit hatch opened on both machines. The two pilots stood on the cockpit platforms, Jacob noted the girl, Jessica, had a defiant look, her arms folded, but she was unarmed. Heero on the other hand had a gun out and was aiming it down at him.

"What is it you want?" Heero asked, he noted men appear to protect their leader, he wasn't amused, but he knew they would come. "I have a request, perhaps you pilots would like to join the resistance," Jacob wondered. At that instant he saw eight more objects appear in sky, the eight other giants landed as well, scaring some of his men away because of their landing that caused dust clouds to kick up. "Ah I see all have gathered here," Jacob commented. "What did you expect? They will always stick together," Mike smirked, he stood up making steps closer to the gundams, but his hands were still tied up behind him.

"Mike are you alright?" Jessica called down. "Yea cous, I'm just peachy, but I am tied up!" he shot back, voice laced with sarcasm. Jessica glanced at Heero, who appeared to be mildly amused by all of this. "Heero give me your gun," she said in an ordering tone. That surprised Heero, glancing at her he saw the murderous look in the girl's eyes and decided not to argue, flicking the safety on his gun he tossed it over. Jessica effortlessly caught it. He watched her descend to the ground, Jacob made a step foreword but the girl, much to everyone's shock fired at his feet, "One more step and I wont miss," she threatened.

The other pilots also exited the cockpits of their machines, Jacob noted that all the boys were armed, and one held a wicked Katana blade. He was beginning to wonder just who they were. Jessica approached Mike and pulled out a knife; with a single swipe she cut him free. Mike rubbed his wrists and nodded his thanks, "Mike, take shelter… now, we'll talk later," she hissed at him.

"Now you… you are delusional thinking we will join forced with you, you have no clue what those aliens are capable of, none of us has any clue. But we have at least something that could stand up to them, I suggest you disband this silly resistance of yours before you cause a war," she spoke coolly. The other pilots also descended to the ground, watching the scene, Heero was not pleased by Jessica's behavior, and she looked a little too calm for someone who never held a gun in her hands before.

"Now what can the ten of your possibly do? There is strength in numbers, true your machine are unparallel, but… can you really say that you can defeat the aliens?" Jacob asked. "We can… and if we cant, we'll die trying," Heero spoke up. Jacob made another step closer, Jessica's finger tightened on the trigger. There was sounds of cocking guns, Heero looked around, seeing Jacob's men all had either guns, some had rifles, a couple had shotguns, and one even had a machine gun. "Impressive arsenal, Jess don't do anything rash," he warned.

"I am afraid you have underestimated us, those men can give you little protection, Phoenix would you care to demonstrate how cowardly they are?" Jessica spoke. "As you wish Mistress," Phoenix spoke. It raised it's arms, deploying it's flame canons, a second later it blasted out flames at the men, scaring about half of them off by the immense heat. "Impressive," Jacob commented. He found a little bit of fear beginning to ebb within him, the girl still had a gun raised at his head, and her arm was steady, she had dozens of guns pointed at her, but somehow it didn't appear to bother her.

"Shooting me will not be wise," He spoke coolly. "You are the resistance leader for Chicago, the saying goes 'Kill the head, kill the body…' I think you can understand that," the girl replied. "You will be killed as well," Jacob countered. "If it means stopping you, I'm willing to pay that price," Jessica replied. Heero quirked an eyebrow at that reply, it sounded like something he would say. "Besides… you abducted Mike, don't think you will get off that easily," the girl added, a devious smirk appearing on her features, Jacob took a few steps back, "Now don't be foolish," He said. His reply was a gunshot, a bullet erupted from the gun in Jessica's hands, it hit Jacob in the shoulder, and he collapsed. At the instant his men opened fire. Heero without a second thought used the girl's surprise to tackle her down to the ground.

Phoenix blasted out a jet of steam and a second later a jet of fire, the firestorm of bullets died down to be replaced by screams as Phoenix didn't let Jacob's men escape that easily, her flame canons had a long range. Wing Zero flipped out his shoulder guns, threatening to fire, Jacob's men understood their loss and made a hasty getaway.

Heero meanwhile sat up; Jessica was still shocked but sat up as well. The other pilots gathered around to check if their comrades were all right. Wufei approached Jacob, who was clutching his shoulder, "Let that be a lesson to you fool, don't mess with us," he said coolly. Jacob nodded, he was afraid, would they really kill him?

Trowa helped Jessica up and Heero managed to stand up on his own. "Thank you Heero, thank you for everything," Jessica spoke motioning him to take his gun from her hands; with a nod Heero retrieved his weapon. They moved back to their gundams, but when Heero made a step, it came out as a limp. Looking down he only now realized what was the feeling of throbbing coming from his left knee. In the excitement of the moment, he completely managed to shut out the pain coming from his badly scraped knee and it was bleeding quite badly.

Mandy noticed this and turned around, "Oh dear…" she commented, "Heero… are you alright?" she wondered. "Come I'll help you," placing her arm around his waist, she helped Heero limp over to his gundam, "Heero, next time to decide to practice your home plate slide, do it somewhere where you wont hurt yourself," Mandy joked. Heero looked at her strangely, "Home plate slide?" he enquired. Mandy chuckled, "Don't tell me you don't know baseball Heero," she shot back poking at his chest with her free arm. The look Heero gave her spoke volumes, Mandy laughed, "You're darn cute when you look so surprised, I should surprise you more often," she added.

"Mandy… what has gotten into you? You don't usually talk like that," he was confused now, a tint of pink spreading on his cheeks. "We'll talk later, now we have to get you home… and once we get home, I'm going to bandage up that wound, you'll be better in no time," Heero shook his head but climbed up to his gundam.

A minute later they were off, Jessica appeared on their comlinks, "Heero that was a nice home plate slide, you should consider going to the national baseball league, with your speed I have no doubt you could pull homeruns no sweat!" she said smirking, "And thanks for saving my hide," the girl added almost as an afterthought. "Not a problem," Heero replied. "Oh and I saw that wound mister, don't pretend you weren't hurt, I'm sorry about that too," Jessica continued. Heero shook his head, "If I didn't dive like that, you'd be dead, I think my scrape is nothing, it won't keep me down for long anyways," he replied.

"Oh that's right, I forgot I was talking to mister 'I land on my head and walk away," Jessica joked with him. "She got you there Heero," Duo added, smirking. "Yea… she got you good," Katie added, chuckling to herself. Heero contained a growl escaping from him, "What worries me more is how our president will take all those shattered windows," Heero tried to steer away from the other topic of conversation; he didn't feel good being the center of attention. "Oh man… I can't believe I did that!" Jessica commented. "It's just windows, I scanned the buildings, the structures are stable," Quatre spoke up. "Thank you Quatre, that made me feel better, at least there wont be any collapsing buildings," Jessica bowed her head.

"It's alright Jess, it's kind of my fault, I shouldn't have forced you to fly that low," Heero spoke up. Everyone turned to look at Heero, "Did he just admit to something being his fault?" Duo asked in shock, "What next? Wufei stopping with the sexist jokes?" he added. "Dream on Maxwell," Wufei barked. "Wufei be nice," Quatre said. "Yea be nice baka!" Katie barked at him. Wufei growled, which caused the girls to chuckle and Duo smirked.

When they got home, Heero was limping quite badly, it was evident that his knee swelled, and was now red. Mandy was once again supporting him, but now he was leaning on her quite heavily. Duo was snickering which caused Mandy's temper to boil, but she managed to restrain it, moving up the stairs. Heero was about to pull down the attic stairs when Mandy stopped him, "Oh no you don't mister! You are going to take a bath! You are covered in dirt, you knee is swollen, and the water will help relax you," she said coolly.

Heero looked at her in surprise, Mandy used that moment to grab his arm and pull him towards the bathroom, pulling him inside she locked the door, "Now mister… no escape for you, you're going to take that bath, besides… the water will ease the pain and swelling," she spoke. "Fine I'll take the bath," Heero folded his arms.

After about ten minutes of coaxing Heero, after he found out that the only bath foam was floral scent, Mandy left him alone to have his privacy, smirking at how easy it was to get him to do her will. It was as if his inability to put weight on his knee also weakened his resolve to struggle with her. 'He's less stubborn than I thought,' she smirked to herself.
