Some where, in a country far, far away… was a prophecy about a creature, unthinkably evil. His arrival would be heralded by the appearance of the Five; five people with special powers, namely control over Air, Water, Earth and Fire, and the connecting element Ether.
And now, the Five have appeared.
The prophecy tells us that the monster can only be defeated, when the Five have learned to co-operate and to unite their powers…

Caput I
"Master J, what a pleasant surprise," Mr Yuy said with a respectful bow.
The sorcerer nodded curtly. "I have come to see Heero, if that's alright with you of course." He knew that no one would go against the wishes of one of most powerful sorcerers of Tenebrae, so his question was more of a rhetorical one.
And as predicted, Mr Yuy's answer was positive. "Of course, master. Heero is in his room."
The sorcerer followed the dark-haired man as he went before him to the stairs. When arrived at the door of Heero's room, Mr Yuy bowed again and left the sorcerer. J waited a moment before knocking on the door; he wanted to be sure that Mr Yuy had gone downstairs again. This mission was too important to risk people listening in on them.
The door opened, revealing the room behind it and the boy who was in it. The boy's face showed no emotion or whatsoever when he saw the sorcerer. His only reaction was a polite nod, as he stepped aside to let the sorcerer enter the room.
J sat down on a chair in one of the corners of the room. He had been here before, and the room hadn't changed one bit since he'd first seen it. It still possessed the same tidiness, almost extremely so, like no one really lived in it. He supposed this extreme tidiness had something to do with the boy's special gift; after all, Air-persons were known for their abstract thinking, their preference for objectivity and facts over emotions and other illogical things. [1]
After one last check of no one was eavesdropping on them, the sorcerer began to speak. "Heero. The time has come for the Elements to join forces. The evil we have feared for so long can reveal itself any moment now. We will have to leave tonight, when everyone in this castle is asleep, without leaving a single trace, except the fact that some people will see you fall into the river and drown. This, of course, will be only an illusion. I'll use a spell so that everyone will accept your death as the truth, and won't go looking for you."
Still, the boy's face didn't show anything. He just nodded and said: "OK, is there anything I'll have to do before we leave?"
The sorcerer smiled slightly. The boy still managed to amaze him, even after all this time. He could have known though, that Heero would react this way. "Yes, I want you to pack some clothes and maybe some things you really can't do without and put them in a rucksack. Don't take to much with you, the road is long and you'll have to carry it yourself."
Heero nodded again.
"Well, I'm going to walk around a bit, and act like it's just a normal visit. I'll meet you outside, at the gate, at let's say… an hour after sunset." And with that, the sorcerer left the room, leaving Heero to pack his stuff.
------
Two persons were travelling through the forests, their feet making no sound at all. No animal was to be heard, they all respected the wish of the one with the green eyes to go unnoticed. They had walked like that for hours now, but no visible sign of tiredness was in their movements.
Suddenly, the one with the green cape halted and motioned the other, his face invisible in the shadows of his cloak, to do so as well. "We're being followed," he gesticulated, soundless.
And indeed, after a few minutes, the cracking of wood became apparent.
The younger one looked at his master, silently asking approval for his next action. As the other nodded, the green-eyed boy closed his eyes, and called the animals that were near: 'These men are a threat, both to me as to this forest. Kill them, let there be no evidence left.'
The next moment a giant wolf came out of the bushes, and jumped on one of the men persecuting their master, the Controller of Earth and all living things. A bear also entered the spot, effectively killing one of the others by cutting his throat. The man didn't even have the time to scream.
Trowa silently moved towards the massacre, just in time to see where the pursuers were from, before they were torn into pieces by the infuriated animals. He hated using his powers, his control over animals, for his own good, but as S had explained to him, there was no room for failure. 'Thank you, my friends.' Then he left again and joined the sorcerer.
They continued their silent journey, the sorcerer's unspoken question answered by a short nod from the green-eyed boy.
------
He quietly sneaked through the door, heading for the place where the sorcerer had told him to go to after dark.
As expected, he found the sorcerer there and after one last rueful look at the house he'd lived in his entire life, he followed the sorcerer with the black moustache as he walked into the forest.
"Master," he whispered, "why does everything have to go this secretly? My parents will be very concerned if they discover I'm missing. I don't want to cause them pain."
"They won't know that you're missing," the sorcerer answered. When the blond boy looked at him in surprise, he continued: "I… put a spell on them, so that they'll think you're dead." He didn't give the boy the precise details. "And, Quatre, don't you think the well-being of the country is more important than the well-being of just a few?"
The blond boy looked at the ground. "I'm sorry, master. You are right of course." The next few minutes they walked in silence, carefully finding their way through the dark forest.
Then the sorcerer spoke: "We will meet another sorcerer and his apprentice at Domus Vicanus; have you been to Vicus before?"
Quatre nodded. "Yes, once, when I was about twelve or so, when my father went there to buy some stuff."
"Do you think people would recognise you, when they'd see you?" H asked.
The blue-eyed boy hesitated for a while before responding: "I… I think that's possible, master."
"Then hide your face when we enter the village. No one is allowed to know about our mission. And it would cause difficulties if your parents would come to Vicus to look for you."
------
"So I'm gonna meet another Controller, right?" the boy said, bouncing excitedly. "That's so cool! I've never met someone like me in my entire life! What's he like? Is he a nice person? What's he look like? Where's he from? What…"
The sorcerer put a hand on his apprentice's shoulder. "Duo, calm down please. I haven't met the guy myself either. But I do know his name. Quatre Winner, if I'm correct."
"Winner? Wow, than he just has to be really good, ne?" The braided boy kept on babbling, like he'd done the entire trip from his hometown to the place were they'd meet the other two. G noted that the boy was obviously nervous, he always talked a lot when he was. It had been a good idea to put a spell of Restricted Hearing-Range on the two of them, that way the constant chattering of the boy wouldn't blow their cover.
"Duo?"
The boy stopped talking and looked at the mushroomish-haired [2] sorcerer. "Yes?" he asked, a vaguely confused look on his face.
"Please pull the cap of your cloak over your head. We don't want anyone to recognise you, since they all think you're dead, and were still not far from your hometown."
Duo obeyed this order without further questioning. Without his trademark braid visible, and with his face hidden in the shadows of his black cloak, it was close to impossible for people to recognise him.
"Where're we gonna meet 'em?"
"At an inn in Vicus [1]," G answered. "But, you'll have to be careful; Vicus is close to both your hometown and Quatre's. No one may know you're still alive!" he added in a strict voice.
"Yes, master," Duo said with a mock-salute.
The inn, named Domus Vicanus [2], was a friendly-looking place in the centre of the village. The building was entirely made of wood, and a sign-board said with big, painted letters 'Domus Vicanus - food, drinks, rooms'.
As soon as the sorcerer and the longhaired boy entered, Duo's face still covered by the cap of his cloak, they immediately saw the two persons who were already sitting at one of the tables. It was very quiet at that time of the day; only one other table was occupied, by two young men who had obviously had a drink or two too much.
G greeted the inn-keeper, a bold, rather corpulent man. The man enthusiastically welcomed the sorcerer and walked him to the table in the corner, where the other two were seated. "And, can I get you anything?" he asked, a smile on his face.
"Two glasses of water, please," the sorcerer answered.
Duo was disappointed. Just water?! But his disappointment was quickly gone, after G had introduced him to the other sorcerer and his apprentice.
"So you're Quatre? You seem like a really nice person, you know. That's so cool! I wouldn't wanna travel with someone I didn't like, you know. Where did ya come from? G there," he said, nodding in the sorcerer's direction, "said he didn't know, so…"
The blond boy smiled at Duo's chattering. "I'm from Proxima, that's kinda close to Vicus."
"Oh! I've been there once, with my father when I was really little!"
The two boys engaged in an animated conversation about their hometowns and almost anything. Meanwhile, the two sorcerers were talking with lowered voices.
End of Caput I
---------------------------------------------
Should I continue? Please review if you liked it! Advice, ideas, comments & criticisms are always welcome! And excusez-moi for the hyper Duo, he'll get better, I promise! He was just nervous :P (Besides, I'm a SDDI member, and you probably know what that means :P Ah well, he's gonna be very intelligent in future chapters. I mean, he isn't Ether for no reason, right? -insert smilie-). By the way, I'll try to update at least once a week (you can kick me or do something else unpleasant to me if I don't :P ) Oh and sorry that Wufei isn't in this chapter… but! He'll be in the next one!
Thanks to everyone who has reviewed! -insert big smile- Me = happy! YAY!
Latin words:
Caput = chapter
Vicus = village
Domus = house; Vicanus = 'of the village', 'at the village' something like that (in this context it could be translated as 'of Vicus' or 'at Vicus' as well, since Vicus is a place name)
[1] Well… I began to doubt my decision of which character to write as which Element (especially Heero's element), so I looked up some stuff on the Internet (the parts between ( and ) are the pieces that aren't applicable). Especially the last part sounds an awful lot like Hee-chan, ne? Hehe, actually I had no idea about the characteristics of Air-persons when I wrote the prologue.
Air-types connect facts and data. The emphasis is on abstract thinking, theorising and working with ideas. They try to approach everything they encounter as objectively as possible (and discuss it with others, which makes them communicative. Because of the frequent exchange of words and gestures, Air-persons are flexible but not always steadfast.) Because of their tendency to try to explain everything logically, they are in risk of approaching everything too intellectually (theoretically?), which can make them seem cold and emotionless. Emotions are hard for Air-persons, because they aren't logically explainable.
