Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Fly agaric and the Big Bad Wolf ❯ Chapter 4

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

The three boys were sitting on the asphalt panting harsh.
They had gotten as far as they could, and when Duo started wheezing and slowed down, Solo grabbed his arm, intent on dragging him along, but the other boy grabbed his other arm, and made all three of them stop.

After stopping, there really was no option of starting up, again.

The dog's barking had ceased, and the adrenaline rush was fading.

Solo had time to start thinking about this situation.

It was much worse, then he had thought, he suddenly realized, fixing his gaze at Duo's trusting face that was now turned to the newcomer.

He was introducing himself to him, and sprouting thanks. His big eyes were puffy from crying, but his smile was a kind and sweet as ever.

The new kid was bent to him, asking him if he was alright, and smiling really friendly.

For a moment Solo contemplated on just pouncing him, and telling him to shut his goddamn gap and keep it that way, but that most probably could't frighten this boy, and there was even a possibility, that if a fight then ensued, the other one would win.

Solo could not allow that, not ever, and that was exactly, why he usually had his pawns fight his fights for him. He could't afford to lose.

Solo blew a frustrated gust of air from his mouth, ruffling some of his hair that was hanging on his face.

He was sweaty, and tired, and his ribs were aching from all that running, and now this newbie would go around telling everyone what had happened.

Everyone would know that Solo was a coward who shoved a kid into a cage with a beast, and couln't even get him out of there by himself.

Explaining, that it had all been just some intense training for Duo would't probably help much...
He suddenly bent forward, and yanked Duo up from his arm. The boy looked startled and made a small noise of surprise.
”Never do that again!”
And then he turned to the boy with the dark hair.

His cheeks were still red from running, but his dark eyebrows were knitting together again in suspecion, by just looking at Solo. ”The kid went into the yard with the dog, though I repeatedly told him not to. I was going to go in to get him, when you came along. Well, I guess Duo should thank you, though that really was unnecessary.” and Solo tried a smile. An intense frown was all he got as a response. He swallowed nervously

This was so hard! He had no idea, how to treat the boy. He was an obvious enemy, but a strong one, so he could't obviously be put to his place here, just like that. Solo would have to try some other kind of tactics, and that was making his head ache.

Perhaps he could make another pawn out of him..? But something told him, that was not going to happen.

Duo lifted his big, beautiful eyes up at Solo, and they were filled with with confusion now, but still as trusting as always. Solo felt a small pang inside him that he quickly killed.

”But Solo... I wasn't-” and Solo had to yank him again, to stop him from talking.
The sincere bafflement in voice alone was enough to make Solo want to scream. It was so obvious that Duo wasn't lying, that it HURT!

They would have to get the hell away from here, before Duo would blurt more things that he shouldn't, and completely ruin Solo's life... His reputation.

”The boy says he didn't go in there by himself. And if you were about to rescue him, then why was the door closed? Why was the latch down?” and the shaggy headed kid took a menacing step forward.
He had grayish-blue eyes, Solo noticed. The strormiest blue, he had ever seen. It was definitely time to make an exit.
”Duo lies. He does that. You know how kids are. Well, we have to go now.”
and he tried to start walking away, but Duo was piping up again, as innocent as ever: ”I don't lie, Solo. I never lie. Mom says bad people lie, and that lies lead to destruction... Where ever that destruction is... I've never managed to discover that-”
And Solo yanked him for the third time.

”Hey! Stop manhandling that kid. What is this shit, anyway?” and the stranger was looking really supsicious, now. His eyes had gone into two slits and his head was tilted to the left as he took yet another step forward.

”Oh! Don't worry about Solo! He takes care of me and-” Solo started to walk away, rather resolutely.
”Are you two like brothers or something?” and the doubt was just dripping from that voice.
”No.” Duo was craning his neck, trying to see the other boy. ”We just” and Solo had enough.

He hoisted Duo up, and threw him on shoulder.
”Eep!” Duo squeked,. ”I'm taking him home to his mother now.” Solo shot angrily.
Well, at least that wasn't a lie. It was exactly, what he was planning to do.
He would have to have a litle talk with Duo about what had happened, and what Duo was allowed to say to people about it, anyway, but he could do that at Duo's, before they would go talk to Mrs M.
Solo almost ran for the next few blocks, afraid that that nosy new kid would follow, but luckily, he didn't. Deciding that he was safe for the moment, Solo slowed to a kind of walk-run, and tried to take deep breaths to calm his heart.

Duo's voice came out unsure and tiny. ”Solo... Why did you say I lied? I don't lie... I don't want people to think that I'm a lier..”
”What? You STILL making conversation, while hanging upside down from my shoulder... I could almost admire you.” and Solo decided to put Duo down. He stopped to do that, wiping sweat from his brow, shaking his hair, some strands immeately sticking back to his forehead.

”I don't like it, Solo...” And Duo's eyes were glued to the tips of his shoes, and he had a heartbreakingly pained look on his face. His soft, pink lower lip was shaking, ever so slightly.

He didn't want to be saying these things to Solo. He didn't want to misstrust him. He didn't even want to think, that he would have any reason to misstrust Solo.

Solo sighed, and took Duo chin on his hand, lifting his face up, not roughly.
”So you want me to take care of you, huh?” Duo nodded a little. Solo's eyes were poring into his, though he did his best to avoid that unnerving gaze. It made him feel like talking to his mother, when he had done something naughty, but this was much weirder, because to his knowledge, he hadn't done anything wrong. He had been good..?
”Mom says though, that I should try taking care of myself, also...” he whispered.
”And she's unbelievebly right with that...” Solo muttered, momentarily distracted from his point.
”Anyways. If you want me to continue taking care of you, then occasionally you'll have to lie.” and Solo shot him a really strong look.
”If people know... If things like what just happened get out then...” Solo ran his fingers trough his hair, frustrated again. ”Then... Then I won't be able to take care of you any longer. No one will listen to what I say, and you won't be safe with me.”

This was a really uncomfortable subject to talk about. And Duo's look of increasing pain didn't help, either. His eyes were filled with tears and unwanted doubt, again.

”But I didn't feel safe just a moment ago, Solo. I don't think you should have made me go in there with the dog...” his clear, sweet voice was wawering, and suddenly Solo felt like yelling. He was filled with mad, uncontrollable rage, but the funny thing was, that he could't for the life of him decipher, who he was mad at.

”FINE!! FINE!! Go to your mommy! C'mon, run along, Duo, go tell her EVERYTHING! What do I care! ” and Solo spun around and started trekking away.
”No! Solo! Please wait! Solo, please!” and he heard Duo's steps, and then Duo was by his side, and the little boy had to run to keep up with him. ”I'm sorry Solo. I'm sorry.”
Duo extended a hand, and both his eyes and voice were filled with panic, when Solo peaked at him from underneath his hair.
He jerked his hand free, and begun to run. Now he'd have to make sure, that everyone around school knew, that Duo Maxwell could't be trusted. Otherwise, his reputation would be as good as gone.
For some reason, thinking what he must do made him feel achy inside, and he hated feeling like that. So, he sped up.

Duo watched Solo disappear around the corner, heedless to his desperate cries of apology, though he wasn't even sure what he was apologizing for.

He stopped, and started to cry again. He was exhausted.
He had gotten so scared, had to run a lot, and now this. And he didn't even understand, what was going on!

Maybe he would, when he would be as big and strong as Solo, but that was an eternity away, and what would he do while waiting?

What if Solo hated him now? What if he'd never talk to him again?

Duo felt like home was too far away, and he was just too small, and he would never get there, but he wiped his nose, and walked on regardless.

Occasionally, a hiccup shook him, and a random teardrop fell from his eyelashes, but mainly he was calm for the rest of way. Too tired to even cry, he dragged his feet forward, and when he finally reached his home door, he had to rest himself against it for awhile, just to get the energy to fish out his keys and go inside.

Another ordeal was waiting for him, when his mother came to say hello to him and saw his tearstained face.

To be loyal to mommy or to Solo?

This thoughts were waging war inside his young head and still, all he wanted to do, was to tell the truth, and curl up inside his mothers arms.

Tbc.

I was asked, wheter this'll be SoloxDuo or 1x2.

Thing is, the boys are kids here... Duo is about 7-8 years old and Solo 11-12.

I have been thinking about letting them grow up, but since this fic is rated T, I think I'm going to have to keep them kids, here, and so, no real pairings can be formed, yet. :) But something's cookin', that I can say. ;D
