{A/N: This is getting complicated...i realized that while I was writing this chapter. This fanfic actually has the possibility to go any which way....1x2, 2x5, 1x2x5 or to stay 1x5...and it just gets more complicated as it goes on....and this chapter isn't helping any *shakes her head* ....this is just really starting to remind me of stuff that happened to me in 9th grade *sighs*}
Chapter Nine: Just a kiss
Duo sat, eating his nachos and looking at Heero and Wufei out of the corner of his eyes. They were whispering about something to one another and Duo wondered what it was. Every once in a while Heero's eyes would flicker over to where Duo was sitting so Duo was sure it was something to do with him. Probably whatever Heero wanted to talk to him about.
Duo sighed in frusteration. What on eath did Heero wanted to talk to him about? And why did it have to wait until after Wufei went back to work?
"Alright guys," Wufei said, getting up. "I gotta go back to work before Une realizes that I'm not at work right now." Wufei gave Heero a quick kiss and then waved to Duo. "Talk to you guys later."
Duo waved back to Wufei and then watched as he disappeared into the crowd that separated him from his car. Duo then turned to Heero. "Alright, what did you want to talk to me about?"
Heero blinked and shook his head. "Come on, I think we should go to the park." Heero stood up and flexed, his bared muscles contracting. "We're going to walk. Nothing's going to happen to our car while we're gone and besides, I can talk to you while we walk."
Duo nodded and stood up too, stretching up as well but probably not looking anywhere near as sexy as Heero had. Duo hung his head. What on earth was he doing now? He couldn't start re-liking Heero again just when Wufei got Heero. That was betrayal in his mind, liking someone that was taken. There was no way he could get Heero without hurting Wufei and that was something he wasn't willing to do.
Right?
Duo followed Heero on the path and walked next to Heero, their strides matching each other perfectly. Duo looked over at Heero and saw that he was deep in thought. Which meant, if he was going to talk to Duo, he couldn't figure out how exactly to say what he wanted to say.
Duo paused in fear. What if Heero had figured out that Duo was starting to crush on him again. What if Heero was trying to find a way to say that it was best if Duo moved out of their house and went to live somewhere else? What would Duo do?
"Duo?" Heero called and Duo looked up to find that he really had stopped to think. Heero was about six paces ahead on him and frowning with concern. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah." Duo said with a grin and jogged up to Heero and wrapped his arm around Heero's neck and began to walk with Heero again. "Just lost in thought, ya know?"
Heero nodded and then looked down at Duo and sighed. "This is what I meant."
"What?"
"You promised when we moved in together, that you wouldn't attempt to block me out by putting on these kinds of masks." Heero sighed. "This is the second time you've done it today. I know that there's something wrong with you Duo but you won't tell me what it is. Which means that it's bad."
Duo blinked. Oh, that was all. Heero just realized that something was up with him, he didn't know what it was. Which meant that Duo could lie and Heero wouldn't know anything different.
"I'm okay. I'm just getting lonely, ya know. Usually I'm the one with the boyfriend." Duo grinned.
Heero shook his head. "That's not it."
"Huh?"
Heero stopped and looked at Duo, straight in the eye. "Duo, I know that you not having a boyfriend when I do, is not the reason you're so unhappy. So what is it? We could stand here all day."
Duo sighed. "It's nothing."
"Yes it is. You're upset, I can tell."
"How can you tell?"
"You just act different." Heero said with a shrug. Duo closed his eyes. He knew that Heero couldn't actually pinpoint it down to something specific. His people skills were good but not that good. "Come on Duo, tell me. I'm your best friend, you're supposed to trust me with things like this."
Duo sighed and sat down on the bench that was about five feet away from them. "It's nothing Heero, really." Duo hung his head, and looked at an ant that was marching past. "I'm just exhausted and-"
"You've been like this since me and Wufei got together." Heero said simply. "I tried to ease it by getting you a date with Neko but that didn't last very long. Are you upset because you didn't end up with Wufei?"
Duo shook his head.
"Well is it because me and Wufei are being too public?" Heero paused. "I've never made out with anyone in front of you before."
Duo shook his head again.
"Then what is it?" Heero sounded frusterated which meant that he couldn't think of any other reason for Duo to be this upset. "Is it because we aren't spending time together because of Wufei and now that's going to be more of a factor."
"Sort of."
"Sort of?" Heero paused. "Well, he did show up today when I told him it was a me and you day. I didn't think that he'd do that. He's never done that before."
"Jealous."
"Hn." Heero didn't sound like he believed that.
"As far as I can tell, you're the only person that actually had friends you prefered to hang out with instead of waiting outside his office with a bouquet of flowers." Duo chuckled and looked up. "You'd be surprised of how many people he's gone out with actually did that."
"Duo." Heero warned, obviously aware that was staying on topic.
"Alright, you really want to know what's wrong with me?"
"Yes."
"It's because I just realized that as much as I've liked Wufei and do like Wufei." Duo looked up and stared Heero in the eye. "I figured out that there's someone else I like more and would rather have to myself but it took me too long to figure out that you could be interested in me that way." Duo leaned over and kissed Heero quickly on the lips and then got up and took off for the forest.
"DUO!" Heero yelled after him but Duo didn't pause and just kept running, tears streaming in his face. He ran into the forest, knowing that no matter how fast Heero ran, if Duo could find a hiding place first, he'd never be found.
Duo saw one and slid into it and watched as ten seconds later Heero ran past. "DUO!"
Duo didn't say a word and watched as Heero disappeared and then got up and curled into a ball and rocked himself back and forth in the bushes.
Why did he have to do that? Why couldn't he have just stayed quiet? Why did he have to say that there was anything wrong with him at all? Why couldn't he have just got up and walked to the park and changed topics? Why? Why? WHY?
Why did he have to go and kiss Heero?

Heero stopped running and sighed. He turned and walked back the way he came, thinking that maybe Duo was somewhere on the path that he had already passed and just hadn't noticed the braided baka.
Heero paused, did he really want to see Duo? Did he really want to deal with what happened? Duo had gone and kissed him which meant that Duo had been acting all weird because he was interested in him. Duo was really interested in him and Heero....
Heero didn't know if he returned the favor.
And he was with Wufei at the moment. And it only took a minute to look at Wufei and go, yes I am interested in Wufei. Yes, I want to spend mornings looking at the sunset with him and nights sleeping in the same bed. But with Duo...
What did he feel for Duo?
What was he going to do with Wufei if he found out that he did have certain feelings for Duo? He didn't want to hurt Wufei. He couldn't hurt Wufei. So what was he going to do?
Heero kept walking, occasionally scanning the ground in search for Duo. Then Heero shook his head, by now Duo was gone. He would have made a run for it the second Heero was gone far enough away. Heero wouldn't see Duo now until Duo was ready for him. And if Duo thought that Heero was going to hit him for what he did or something, then Duo wasn't going to appear for a long time.
Heero sat down on a fallen log and hung his head in his hands. This wasn't how it was supposed to happen. He was supposed to be with the person he was supposed to be with, no complications. Damn! Why couldn't things ever go smoothly for him?
Heero looked up at the sky and saw two birds flying away together. Inspiration struck him and he got up and walked away.
He knew what to do.

"What do you mean you're going off-planet?" Wufei demanded as they got in the car that Heero had announced he was going to drive. "You can't leave because of Maxwell."
"Duo has brought up things in me that I need to think about." Heero said simply and climbed into the driver seat and started the engine. "I'll be back in a couple of weeks. I'm not going to be gone that long, you know."
"That's not the point." Wufei snarled. "You say that he says something to you and then you have to go off-planet in order to figure it out!?!" Wufei grabbed onto the seat as Heero sped out of the parking lot. "Come on Heero, there's something that you're not telling me."
"I'm leaving today."
"WHAT?" Wufei exclaimed and turned to look at Heero. "What in the hell do you mean? You're leaving today. Duo says something to you today and you leave today? It must have been one hell of a conversation." Wufei narrowed his eyes at Heero. "What did he say to you?"
"It doesn't matter. You can't help me figure out how to deal with it anyways. Only I can and in order to do that, I need to seperate myself and Duo."
"Well if it was that bad, you don't have to worry about that." Wufei tapped his fingers on the window. "Duo won't be around for a while. You know how good he is with running away when he thinks we're mad at him."
"Yes well-" Heero sighed. "This is different. This is something I have to do. Okay?"
"Do I have a choice?" Wufei snapped. "You've already bought your ticket. You've probably also already phone Quatre to tell him you need to borrow one of his many vacation homes." Wufei looked over at Heero and rolled his eyes. "You have already called Quatre, damnit."
"Yes." Heero didn't add anymore than that.
"Heero-" Wufei said in a warning voice. "You are not going to leave without telling me what is wrong. You can't just leave when we're just starting to get used to this relationship thing."
"You'll be fine." Heero shrugged. "Just take this as a brief mission that I have to go on."
Wufei found that they were already in the airport and Heero was finding a parking spot. "Heero-"
Heero parked and turned off the engine and reached behind him to grab a single bag of luggage. "I gotta get going. My flight leaves in fifteen minutes." Heero looked over at Wufei and reached over to squeeze his shoulder. "If it comforts you, I'll phone you as soon as I get to Quatre's house."
Wufei nodded. "Alright, phone me."
Heero nodded and then opened the door and looked back over at Wufei. He closed the door again and then leaned over and kissed Wufei, long and hard. "I'll miss you."
Wufei nodded and watched as Heero walked away.
