Chapter Twelve: Heero's home
Wufei sat in the livingroom flipping through the different channels on the television. It was odd how one could have more than a hundred different channels and still have nothing good to watch on them. It was like there was some sort of curse that when you were bored and wanted to watch tv, nothing good would be on.
Wufei turned off the television and sighed, turning on the couch so that he was stretched out on it and then reached down on the floor and picked up one of his many books and flipped it to the last page he had been reading.
This lasted about three minutes before Wufei put the book back down and sighed. Wufei got up and went into the kitchen and looked around for something he could clean but there wasn't a single out of place dish anywhere. Wufei sat down at the table and banged his head on the table.
Wufei Chang was offically bored. There was no way around it. It may not happen very often but it had finally happened. He had been out of work for four days and he had already done everything that he could in this house. There was nothing left to do. He had read his books and was now bored of them. Nothing was on tv. He couldn't spend his life in the bathroom and he wasn't tired.
There was absolutely nothing to do.
Wufei thought about phoning Heero but shook his head. That wasn't a solution. Heero would probably wonder why on earth he had phoned him. Then, when Wufei couldn't come up with an answer, Heero would shake his head at Wufei in disgust and disconnect them and Wufei would be back at square one.
There was absolutely no one thing left that he could do.
Then Duo's suggestion creeped into his head. Would it really be so bad if they just included him in their relationship? Sure, it would take some Heero convincing because Heero didn't like Duo that way and was already planning on turning Duo down but still...maybe if Heero thought that it was what Wufei wanted, he would go for it.
Wufei shook his head. But it wasn't what he wanted, not at all. It was just bugging him that it was taking Heero so long to find out how to just say 'no'.
But Wufei couldn't really fault Heero, if their places had been reversed, he would probably have distanced too. He wouldn't have wanted to ruin the way the three of them functioned but at the same time, wouldn't have wanted to give Duo too much hope. Maybe that was what was running through Heero's head right now.
The phone beeped all of a sudden and it snapped Wufei out of his thoughts and he went to it and pressed the receive button. No image popped up so Wufei figured it was being sent from a portable.
"Hello Wufei." Heero's voice called out.
"I was just thinking about phoning you." Wufei stated in greeting.
Heero chuckled. "Well, you don't have to worry about that now. I'm on a shuttle on my way home. We should be landing in about half an hour. Think that's enough time for you to get over to the shuttle port?"
"Yeah." Wufei smiled as he realized that his boredom was definitely not going to be a problem now. "I'll be there."
"Good." Heero coughed. "I'll see you then. Good Bye Wufei."
"Bye Heero." Wufei pressed the disconnect button and turned to go upstairs. He had to go and change, he was going to meet Heero after all.
Wufei emerged from his bedroom five minutes later dressed in the shirt Heero had ended up letting Wufei keep from their first day and a pair of jeans. He looked casual but at the same time, Wufei hoped at least, someone that Heero would want to come home to.
Wufei checked himself one last time in the mirror and then headed out to the car, just as Duo pulled in the driveway with the other one.
"Where are you off to Wufei?" Duo asked as he climbed out of the black sport car. "I figured you'd be inside reading or something."
"I have to go." Wufei said simply, opening the car door and climbing in it. Wufei started the engine, put on his seatbelt and then rolled down the window. He backed out of the driveway and then yelled back to Duo. "Heero's coming home."
Duo's eyes widened and he started down the driveway, obviously wanting to come with Wufei or at least ask if he could but Wufei didn't let him and just started to drive away. He wasn't going to let Duo ruin his meeting with Heero with wanting to know if Heero was going to consider the three-way relationship thing. That was definitely not the way he wanted to greet Heero.
Wufei sped down the highway, a song on the radio blaring and a wide smile on his face. He hadn't felt so free since the last time he had been going down this highway to meet Heero at the fair. It was weird that someone could have that effect on him.
Wufei parked and then headed into the shuttle port and saw that the shuttle had just landed and was unboarding. Wufei stood at the window and watched as person after person unboarded and then smiled as he saw the familiar figure of Heero climbing off.
Wufei moved over to the doors so that he could be there when Heero entered the shuttle port.
Heero walked through the doors with the same walk that had stated to everyone during the war that he wasn't someone you wanted to mess with. Heero was wearing sunglasses, a black t-shirt and jeans. He looked around and spotted Wufei and pulled off his sunglasses as he smiled and headed over to them.
"I'm glad you're here." Heero murmured as he pulled Wufei over to the side and gave Wufei a quick kiss on the mouth. "I phoned ahead and we have a table reserved at that Chinese restaurant you wanted to go to."
Wufei nodded, finding that he couldn't say a word. He just felt very heavy and drugged. Heero noticed that and grinned, grabbing Wufei's hand and leading him out of the shuttle port, his only bag having come with him on the plane.
"Heero!" Someone exclaimed and the next thing Wufei knew, someone had tackled Heero and they were both on the ground, Heero's hand no longer holding on to his. Wufei looked at the person who was on top of Heero and scowled. It was Duo.
"Duo-" Heero said as he pushed Duo off of him and then stood up, brushing himself off. "What in the hell are you doing here? I thought you were still at work."
"I got off early today." Duo said with a smile. "And Wufei told me that you were coming home so I just had to come and greet you too." Duo stood up himself and grinned. "So, how was your flight."
"Just fine." Heero growled and then reached down to give Wufei a hand. Wufei took it greatfully and then pulled himself up. He sighed and shot Heero an apologetic look which Heero flatly ignored.
"That's good. So, should we all go home and catch up on what's been going on since you left?" Duo asked innocently.
"No." Heero replied. "We can talk to you tomorrow or later tonight. Wufei and I have reservations at a restaurant in twenty minutes so we really should be going."
"Oh." Duo said with a frown. "Well then. I should be getting back to the house then." Duo's whole body seemed to fall with disappointment and Wufei forced himself to look away. "I'll talk to you tonight."
Heero nodded and watched as Duo walked out before taking Wufei's hand again and dragging him to the car that Wufei had come in. "Alright come on. If we don't get there in twenty-five minutes, the'll give our table away."
Wufei complied by letting Heero drive, knowing that Heero could probably get there faster and besides, no one ever seemed to give Heero a ticket for speeding, nor even pull him over.It was like they saw him and then just let him go.
"You told Duo I was coming home?" Heero questioned as they sped down the highway at a much faster speed than Wufei had dared on his way here.
"He got home as I was leaving and he asked where I was going. I wasn't going to lie to him. I didn't think he'd follow me to the shuttle port though." Wufei hung his head. "I should have known better than to tell him though. He's been trying to convince me to do this three-some thing all week and I should have known he'd try something."
"Three-some thing?" Heero looked over at Wufei and pursed his lips.
"Yeah you know." Wufei imitated Duo's usual phrase, simply replacing Heero's name with Duo's. "me and you, you and Duo and me and Duo."
"When did Duo come up with that one?" Heero asked, turning off the radio with a quick flick.
"That's what you went to think about." Wufei said confused. "He told me that he had said something about it to you and that's what you went to think about."
Heero shook his head. "No, that wasn't it.' Heero's eyebrows creased in frusteration. "So Duo's been pestering you all week about this three-some relationship idea that he hasn't even talked to me about?"
Wufei nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."
Heero grumbled something and then turned into the parking lot of the restaurant. "Come on, lets go and eat. We can talk more about this later." Heero smiled as he got out the car. "But right now I have better things for us to talk about."
Wufei smiled. He hoped Heero did, he didn't want their first time together in two weeks to be full of Duo's mischievious.
Heero stepped around to Wufei's side of the car and extended his hand to Wufei. Wufei took it and grinned, walking in pace with Heero as they walked. Wufei looked over at Heero and smiled. "I'm glad you're home."
Heero's lips tugged upwards and he nodded. "I missed you a lot."
"Me too."
"That's my shirt." Heero stated in mock of their first date.
"Mhm."
"You look good in it." Heero commented. "I should show you where I got it."
"Mhm."
Heero shook his head as they walked into the restaurant.
One of the waiters waited at the door with two menus in hand. "And you are?"
"Heero Yuy." Heero replied simply.
"Right this way sir." The waiter directed them to a table.
Wufei closed his eyes as Heero led him. He hoped that this would never end and Heero never had to let go of his hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Duo drove aimlessly around town, not wanting to go back home yet.
Heero had been so unwelcoming when Duo had appeared at the airport. He had growled at Duo and didn't even actually greeted Duo. He had just asked why in the hell he was there. As if he didn't want Duo to welcome him home.
As if he didn't even want to see Duo.
What was going on? All he wanted to do was to make sure that Wufei and Heero were going to last and they weren't going to by themselves. Heero was too innocent in the dating realm and Wufei demanded too much attention. Duo would be the perfect balancer if they would just let him be.
It wasn't like he was requesting that they broke up and he got Heero to himself or something. He was willing to share with Wufei. If Heero in turn shared Wufei with him. It was a good plan, Duo had thought about it over and over again. So why didn't they think it was a good plan?
Duo parked in front of Neko's house. Neko was Heero's other best friend. Neko would probably be able to tell him what was wrong with Heero. Duo climbed out of his car and walked up to the door and knocked on it three times.
"Just a second." Neko opened the door and seemed shocked to find that Duo was standing there. "Duo! I wasn't expecting you to be coming by." Neko opened the door wider and motioned for him to come inside. "What's up. I heard that Heero was coming home today, shouldn't you be with him?"
Duo followed Neko into her living room and sat down on the couch while she took up the spot next to him. Duo turned to Neko and sighed. "Alright, I went to go and welcome him at the shuttle port with Wufei but he just growled at me and told me that he and Wufei had plans that I should just go home."
Neko blinked and an expression of confusion covered her face. "Really? That doesn't sound like Heero at all." Neko shrugged. "Then again, Wufei and Heero are still new to the relationship thing. They're probably still feeling each other out, if you know what I mean." Neko shook her head. "But still, that doesn't sound like Heero at all. Then again, he did run off to L3 without even telling me why. That's not like him either. I swear that if Quatre hadn't phoned me, trying to find out what Heero was there for, I would have never have known."
"Heero didn't tell you he was going?" Duo asked.
"No. He just left and then Quatre ended up telling me the next day." Neko tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "It must have been something important if he had to go and didn't even tell me."
"Maybe he didn't want you to influence him somehow." Duo suggested.
"That was probably it." Neko got up and crossed the room, eyeing the pictures on the shelf. "I still find it strange. But he phoned me up and said he'd be over here to talk to me tomorrow. He wanted advice on something."
"Oh? Did he say what?" Duo asked innocently.
"No, he just said he needed to talk to me about something." Neko looked over at Duo. "Do you know why he ran off to L3 without saying anything?"
Duo shook his head and stood up, crossing to the shelf and looking at the pictures himself. "You two are close." Duo commented as he noticed there were plenty of pictures of Heero and Neko hugging and even one of them sleeping next to each other.
Neko chuckled. "Yeah, Heero is a pretty good guy. He's more touchy-feely than I would have ever thought. If I didn't know him better I would have thought that he was coming on to me. But I know better than that." Neko sighed. "Heero's just like that."
"Hm?"
"When you wrap your arm around him, he notices it and doesn't push it off. Then later, he does the same to you when he thinks that the time is right." Neko pursed her lips together. "Monkey see, monkey do. He doesn't really learn how to have physical contact by what he wants, he does't know what he wants enough to do that. He just initates what he thinks the other person wants."
Duo nodded. "Yeah that sounds like Heero." He sighed and sat down. "Have you already ate?"
Neko shook her head. "No, I haven't yet. Why?"
"Do you want to go and get a burger or something? I know a diner that serves great fries but still has fast service." Duo smiled.
"Yeah, that would be great." Neko smiled back. "Let me go get my coat and we can be off."
"Alright." Duo sighed and grabbed his braid and pulled it around his shoulder and sighed. "Wufei and Heero are going to have a rocky relationship, huh?"
Neko shrugged as she grabbed a coat from inside the closet. "Well that would depend on a lot of things. How quickly Heero can understand what Wufei wants from him would be the main one. I don't think they'll do too bad though."
"Yeah, they won't do too bad." Duo echoed and sighed. "Do you think that Heero would have been better off with someone like me?"
Neko looked at Duo with a surprised look on her face as she grabbed her keys and slipped them into her pocket. "Well I don't know. I think that you probably would have gotten bored with teaching Heero what he was supposed to do." Neko opened the door. "But I really don't know what would happen."
Duo sighed. "Yeah, we probably would have broken up soon, huh?"
"Possibly." Neko's eyebrows came together. "What's up Duo? I know that I'm probably the last person you would want to talk to about this sort of thing but really, what's going on? Are you feeling left out because of Heero and Wufei? I'm sure they didn't mean to make that happen to you."
"Yeah, you're probably right." Duo followed Neko to his car and opened the passenger side and then went around. "It's just weird to think that something I did actually got them together."
"You should be proud." Neko said simply. "If they stay together and are happy, it was your doing that made them so. You're the one that made Heero happy."
"I never thought of it that way."
"My mom told me that once when I said that my best friend and my best guy friend got together once." Neko smiled. "They're married now. So it's kinda cool because I did get them both the best wedding present; each other."
"Yeah." Duo smiled. "You know what?"
"What?"
"I think I'm going to go home for a second. I'll leave a note on the door. Do you think I could stay at your place tonight."
"Yeah, sure."
"Good. They deserve to have the night to themselves."
Neko smiled. "See, now you're thinking right."
Duo grinned. "Yeah, now I'm thinking right." {1)
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------
Wufei yawned as Heero led him to the door. They were getting home late, Heero thought, but that couldn't be helped. Heero hadn't wanted to go home right after dinner so they had gone to the park and walked around for a while and Wufei had surprised Heero a couple of times by kissing him when someone was just about to come around the bend.
Heero saw a piece of paper attached to the door and grabbed it and opened it. It was from Duo and it said that he was staying over at Neko's so they had the house to themself tonight.
Heero showed it to Wufei and his eyebrow shot up.
"What do you think happened?" Wufei asked as Heero opened the door. "To make him change his mind about this whole thing, I mean. I figured he'd be right at the door when we got home to make sure that we both got separted as soon as we got in."
Heero nodded. "Actually, I did too. Duo's been acting really weird lately. I mean, if you and Duo had gotten together, I would have been sad but I wouldn't have tried to pry you apart.
"Same for me about you and Duo." Wufei said and then hugged Heero. "But I'm glad you went to me."
"Me too." Heero said, wrapping his arms around Wufei. "Want to go and watch a movie?"
Wufei nodded. "You go and get some popcorn and I'll go and get the movie." Wufei let go of Heero and smiled shyly before walking into the living room.
Heero watched him go and then headed into the kitchen and found another note from Duo. This one said that if they were going to watch a movie together there was a new kung-fu movie on the VCR and that there was no more popcorn but they could have Duo's chips.
Heero stared at the note for a minute in disbelief and then cleared his throat. "Hey Wufei?"
"What?"
"Duo says there's a new movie on the VCR."
"Duo's in there?" Wufei asked and Heero indentified a hint of disappointment at the idea.
"No, he left us another note." Heero said simply and then sighed. "You think that he's planning something? Maybe the movie has hypnotic powers."
Wufei chuckled. "Very funny Heero, you know Duo better than that." Wufei paused for a second. "Should we watch something else?"
"No, lets watch it." Heero grabbed the chips and headed back to the living room where Wufei was looking at the tape. "Come on, lets watch it. Maybe Duo's going to be home half way through or something."
"Maybe. That sounds more likely." Wufei popped the movie in the VCR and then sat down and patted the spot next to him. "Come on and sit down. We can at least watch half of it before Duo gets home."
Heero nodded and sat down next to Wufei.
About fifteen minutes later Wufei's head fell down on Heero's shoulder. Heero noticed it but didn't say anything and just continued to watch the movie.
Then, five minutes later, Wufei turned his whole body and leaned on Heero's chest. One of his hands stayed at his side but the other one went to Heero's knee. Heero smiled and put one of his own arms around Wufei.
Wufei sighed in contemptment and they continued to watch the movie.
Heero realized, about half way through, that Wufei's hair was in his face but didn't dare move incase Wufei got up in embarassment. Heero didn't want that so he just move his head slightly, trying to get his mouth away from Wufei's hair.
A random song was playing in the background of the scene they were watching and Heero found that Wufei was actually tapping his knee in sync with the song. Heero smiled at that and shifted under Wufei so that Wufei was closer to him.
At the end of the movie, Heero and Wufei just sat there without movie for a couple of minutes and then Wufei coughed and sat up. "Well, I should go to bed. It's late and I have to go and talk to Une tomorrow about our next mission again. There's still a couple of things that are muddy."
"When are you guys going?" Heero asked softly.
"Three days."
"Oh."
Wufei nodded and then started up the stairs and turned around. "Uh Heero, do you want to sleep with me." He blushed a bright red as he realized what that sounded like and then shook his head. "That's not what I meant. I meant just sleeping, in the same bed, clothes on and-"
Heero nodded, interrupting Wufei's scramble of words.. "I'd like that."
"You would?" Wufei asked and Heero noticed that he looked like he was about to faint. Heero quickly went closer to the stairs, ready to catch Wufei if he felt faint.
"Yes. I'd like that." Heero started up the stairs. "My bed or yours?"
"Yours." Wufei answered automatically.
"Alright. You go and change into whatever you sleep in and I'll be waiting for you." Heero said and passed Wufei on the stairs, pausing and hesitantly picking up Wufei's hand. "Wear your hair loose?"
Wufei's eyes seemed to fill with an emotion that Heero didn't know and Heero instantly thought that he had said something wrong and he opened his mouth to take it back but then Wufei smiled and Heero sighed in relief.
"I'll see you in a minute." Wufei said, trying to break off the not so much awkward as weird silence.
"Alright."
Heero entered his room and grabbed a pair of clean boxers and quickly stripped and slipped into them. Then he turned around and looked around the room, trying to see if there was anything he should do besides that.
Heero didn't have time to continue to think about it because Wufei entered the room with a pillow at his chest, also in nothing more than boxers. "Hey."
"Hey." Heero said in a husky tone and then he coughed. This was just strange. "Are you sure that you want to do this."
"Well if you don't want to-" Wufei said unsure.
"No I want to." Heero said hurriedly. "Come on, lets get some sleep."
Wufei nodded and they both climbed into the bed. They lay for a minute with about a foot between them, just staring at each other and then Heero moved closer and put his arm over Wufei and pulled him closer.
"Good night Wufei."
"Night Heero." Wufei said as he scooted closer and buried his head in Heero's chest.
Heero smiled as he realized that he could feel every breath that Wufei took. There was just something incredibly intimate about that and Heero inhaled the scent of Wufei's shampoo and closed his eyes.
And for one of the few times in his life, Heero actually fell asleep quickly.
