In The Bedroom: Night 22
Heero stood at the wall, staring at the sheet of grey metal, trying to ignore the itch at the back of his neck that told him someone was watching. He knew someone was watching and he wasn't going to do a thing about it. They wouldn't understand…
Space is dark. Empty. Devoid of life? Not true. It just seems that way. It feels that way when you stand in a metal box, floating in the middle of two nowheres, staring at a wall with no windows. It's like you've been thrown out with the trash. Perhaps, to space, we are the trash.
Heero stared at the wall and tried not to think. Tried not to drown in a river of thought so strong it threatened to pull him away. He almost wanted to go with it, to forget this world, this war-torn charade, this endless, meaningless existence.
I won't leave you alone.
A hand came down on his shoulder and Heero forced himself not to flinch at the contact. Body heat so close, yet so far away, trapped together in such a small space while this space existed between them. Heero almost hated space. Almost.
"You know," a voice whispered close to his ear, "just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there."
The hand went away, the warmth faded. That didn't mean it wasn't there.
