Rating: PG (for now) for language.
Summary: AU, It's A.C. 195 and the war between the Earth and the Colonies is raging on. The gundams never existed and so the pilots have continued to live their separate lives. But in these already dark times an evil is brewing and it's up to Duo Maxwell, the chosen one of the gods, to stop it.
In the Darkness
Chapter 1
He walked down the street of the small little town of Salisbury. It used to be larger but the war had sort of reached it and it had been destroy. It had only been recently rebuilt.
It was small with tiny little shops and housing. Probably only between 100 or 200 people called this place home. One of those people was Duo Maxwell.
He had moved here after the destruction of the Maxwell Church. An old woman had taken him in but she died a couple years ago. He had been torn up inside after that. She had taught him so much. Even now he wasn't sure of what her real name was but she had everybody in town call her Ravencorn.
She had been a witch and taught him everything she knew. He came to love her as a mother. And he had never forgot any of her teachings.
He walked down the road and people watched and shed away from him as he walked by. They didn't like what he was. He wasn't the only witch in town but he was the best known. Because of her.
He hadn't hurt anybody with the magic he possessed. Witches didn't believe in that kind of stuff. They just didn't understand what he was. And what they didn't understand, they were afraid of.
His choice of dress didn't help either. And neither did the intense look he always had in his eyes. He dressed all in black. He wore a high collared t-shirt and black jeans. As he walked, his long jacket billowed out behind him. Around his neck he wore a small golden cross that Sister Helen had given him.
He reached a small candle and incense shop and entered. He was there to stock up on some things that he was running low on.
He looked through the shelves of different candles. They all had different aromas but he was more interested in the colors (1). He soon picked out a few cases of black, blue, green, purple, red, white, yellow and a couple of silver candles. He also picked some lavender, juniper, pine and vanilla powdered incense. He paid for all of it and walked back out the door.
As he walked back to his house he felt a familiar presence. He glanced over to the right and saw Whisper sitting in a window. Whisper was a black cat that had a white mark that looked oddly like the goddess symbol (2) on her forehead.
'What do you want?' he asked her with his telepathy.
She responded in the same way, 'We need to talk.'
'About what?' he asked, 'I'm really not in the mood for any lectures right now.'
'Lady Brigit (3) wishes to speak with you,' the cat said.
Duo stopped and looked at the animal, confusion written all over his face. 'Brigit? You mean the goddess Brigit?'
Whisper nodded, 'She wishes to speak with you. She wants you to meet her at the stones tonight.' With that said she jumped out of the window and disappeared into the grass.
Sighing, Duo continued his walk home. When he got there he entered his house and walked into his magick room.
It was in this room that he performed most of his rituals in. He had a table altar in the center of the room with various candles placed on it and different things representing the elements (4) and a pentacle in the center (5). On the walls were several paintings of the god and goddess and other deities. In the corner of the room was a cabinet.
He walked to the cabinet and opened it up. Inside were all of his magickal tools. He put his new candles and incense away and closed it.
He walked out of the room and into the kitchen. He started to make himself some tea.
He then started thinking about what Whisper had told him. She had been good friends with Ravencorn and talked to Duo now only occasionally. He wondered how she could know a goddess. And what's more, why would a goddess want to talk with him.
As he waited for the water to boil he sat down at the small table he had. To answer his question he would have to wait until tonight.
He closed his eyes and put his head on the table. He wasn't sure why but he felt very uneasy about this whole thing.
To Be Continued
(1) In different magickal workings sometimes the color of the candle is more important than the scent.
(2) The Goddess Symbol: A circle with two crescents on either side pointing outwards.
(3) Brigit: Pronounced Breet. I'm not a hundred percent sure whether she's from the Wales or Irish Pantheon. She's the goddess of fire, fertility, the hearth, healing, inspiration, Prophecy, love witchcraft and whole bunch of other things I don't feel like typing right now.
(4) Witches usually have objects to represent the elements on their altar all the time. For ex, mine are a (fake) flower that my boyfriend gave me for earth, a small bird sculpture for air, a simple candle that I usually light regularly for fire, and a small dolphin sculpture for water.
(5) Aren't you getting sick of these yet? Minus the Pentacle (mine broke), that's my Altar I just vaguely described.

<Firefly> So what did you think?
<Corvus> Very unique. Duo's a witch. What number story is this now?
<Firefly> Well let me see…think seven.
<Corvus> I'm surprised your not getting them mixed up.
<Firefly> Whatever. Anyway this story came to me and it was just begging to written. I've had to do a lot of research for this story so you all better like it…just kidding.
<Corvus> Well R&R please. We would like to know how you like it.
