In the Darkness

Chapter 10

'Whisper are you sure he's here?' Destiny asked. 'We've looked all over this colony and no sign of him. Not to mention there's no record of him in any data base that says he's a citizen here.'

They were on one of the L1 colonies; she couldn't remember which one, looking for one of the keepers that Whisper had told her about. They stood in front of a library on a busy street. She was walking out of the building as she said this to the cat that jumped on to her shoulder.

'Of course I'm sure,' Whisper answered.

It had been two months since the town of Salisbury was destroyed. Not long after that Destiny and Whisper separated from her brother and Nanashi to find the seven keepers and search for Duo when he returned.

'Well it's been three days since we got here,' Destiny said. She blew a strand of her bangs out of her face.

She looked much different now than she did two months ago. Instead of her long hair she had cut so that it short with longer bangs that reached to her cheeks. She wore her usual black jeans with a pink t-shirt. Over it she wore Duo's jacket she had taken that night and around her neck was the cross that Whisper had found.

'Then we're just looking in the wrong places,' Whisper responded.

'Do you know anything else about this guy?' Destiny asked. 'You know besides his name.'

'All I know about him is his name's Corvus and he's on this colony,' the cat answered.

'But how do we find him?' Destiny asked. Truth be told, they had actually been tracking a different keeper who really liked moving when Whisper found out about this guy they were looking for now. She didn't tell Destiny how she knew where he was or how she found out about him though. 'We probably would have had better luck just trying to catch the other one,' she continued now thoroughly annoyed with the feline.

'Try to think positively,' Whisper answered. 'We'll find him.'

'Before the enemy does I hope,' Destiny said smugly. 'Can't you sense where he is or something?'

'If I could don't you think we would have found him by now,' Whisper answered her.

'Then how do you even know that he's here?' Destiny asked. 'If you can't sense him then how did you find him?'

'I sense he's here on this colony but I can't sense his precise location,' Whisper said.

To say that Destiny was annoyed would be an understatement at this point. She was about to take Whisper by the neck and strangle her. She would have done it to if it weren't for the fact that at that time she bumped into somebody. Well actually it was more like she collided with somebody as they both fell back towards the pavement and Whisper, of course, landed gracefully on her feet.

"Oh I'm so sorry miss," she heard them say.

"No it's ok," Destiny answered, "I wasn't watching where I was going. That's all." She looked up to see a man who looked to be in his mid-twenties looking down at her.

He was tall with shoulder length black hair and soft blue eyes. He wore glasses, blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket.

"Are you ok?" He asked. "Your not hurt are you?"

"No I'm fine," she said and stood up just to prove it. "Oh that's good," he responded. He started to walk away. "I have to go now. It was nice meeting you."

"Yeah, you too," She said back and waved.

'Destiny!' Whisper said urgently. 'That's him. That's the keeper we've been looking for!'

'What! Are you sure?' Destiny asked.

Growling slightly Whisper answered, 'Of course I'm sure!'

She ran after him. "Hey sir. Wait a minute!" he stopped and turned towards her as she caught up.

"Yes?" he asked. "Is something the matter?"

"Is your name Corvus?" She blurted out. He stared at her in astonishment. "Are you?" she continued.

Smiling warmly he said, "Well I guess you found me. And who are you young lady?"

"My name's Destiny," she said. "I've been looking for you for days."

'We need to speak with you about the key you hold,' Whisper said.

"Oh I see," he responded, not effected by the fact that Whisper was telepathic. "Then we should go to my apartment to talk. Follow me." With that said he turned and started walking again with Destiny close behind.

On a roof close by a crow sat and watched them go before taking off in the opposite direction.

<Firefly> I like that version of you. He isn't so loud.

<Corvus> I'm not loud!!!!!!!!

<Clo> You sound loud to me.

<Corvus> Nobody asked you.

<Firefly> I know this was short and boring. I'm really sorry about that. But I promise the next chapter with be better.

<Corvus> I have a question. What's with the crows?

<Firefly> Couldn't you figure that out from the last chapter?

<Corvus> No

<Firefly> *Sighs* Forget it.

<Corvus> So when is Duo coming back?

<Firefly> Soon.

<Corvus> But how soon?

<Firefly> Soon ok.

<Corvus> Ok. You don't need to yell like that.

<Clo> You guys like to talk a lot don't you?

<Corvus> Your worse than us you know.

<Firefly> Anyway, I have to go get ready for work now. R&R ok. Please. I'll write the next chapter faster if you do.
