Chapter 7
by Vel

Heero awoke suddenly, when he heard a loud crash coming from the lounge, he did not fell the usual fear that one would feel when they hear a loud crash in the middle of the night. It was the sound it's self. The first sound that he could ever recall hearing.

It both excited him and scared him. He could hear, he could hear for the first time in his life. Oh how he wanted Duo to know, he wanted to hear Duo's voice.

Pushing the covers off, he rose and slipped into his bathrobe. He was just about to open his bedroom door when it suddenly slammed open. Startled, Heero jumped back. A man, much larger than Duo stood blocking the doorway.

Frantically Heero's eyes darted around the room for any possible exits, his stomach sank when he realized that the stranger was blocking his only escape. A strong hand clamped down on the youth's arm squeezing with enough pressure to break the bone.

Heero whimpered in the man's hold, trying to pull his arm free, he received a blow to the side of his head for his efforts. His right ear, still sensitive from the operation exploded in so much pain that it caused his eyes to water. Blood dripped down his face from the nosebleed the blow had caused.

“Be still.” A low voice growled, then the man began to pull Heero from the room. Through the haze of pain Heero could see that the whole apartment had been trashed. There were broken items and ripped paper every where. Not even the Christmas gifts had been spared the colourful wrapping ripped and the contents exposed.

Heero's head was swimming in pain and he did not even realize that he was now out side until his abductor forced him into the back seat of a car. He grabbed for the door handles only to find that the child locks had been set. The back doors could no longer be opened from the inside.

The man got behind the wheel and started the car, they drove for what seemed like hours, before the car finally stopped. The driver got out and opened the back door, he latched onto Heero's arm again dragging him out. Heero's bare feet scraped against the cold ground as he dragged across a large parking lot that surrounded an old warehouse.

Still holding Heero in a vise grip the man punched a code into the electronic key pad that was next to the door. Once the door was open the man forced Heero inside. The building was dark and it took a moment or two for Heero's eyes to adjust, when they did, Heero paled.

* Father *

Odin Lowe smiled, opening his arms to his son in a welcoming manner, though deep anger was clearly evident in his eyes.

“I missed you son.” Odin said as he approached the pair. He took Heero's arm in his hand pulling his way from the kidnapper.

“You have done you job well. Now go wait upstairs, I'll give you your money later.”

The other man nodded, releasing his hold on the boy and disappearing into the darkness. Odin dragged his son across the dimly lit room and forced him down into a chair.

“You fucking ungrateful little son of a bitch! What the fuck do you think you were doing! You are mine!” Odin seethed “ Did you honestly think you could get away from me. Never, you are mine until the day you die and the sooner you figure that out the better.” To emphasize his words Odin slapped Heero across his cheek.

Heero tried to duck down and evade the blows, but that only made Odin angrier. The blond man grabbed Heero by the arms, lifting him up into the air, high enough that the youth's feet left the floor.

“MINE!” Odin spat, then threw the youth across the room. Heero cried out in pain as his body slammed into the wall, only to slide down and land heavily to the floor. Odin bore down on him, fists slamming, heavy booted feet kicking.

Heero twisted and turned trying in vane to keep from getting hit, but there was no way to escape his father's anger. Odin pinned the blue eyes boy to the floor and leaned in very close, his breath mingling with the quick shallow breaths Heero was taking.

Odin pasted his lips to his son's forcing his tongue into the boy's mouth. Heero bit down. With a curse Odin pulled back and spat out some of the blood that was filling his mouth. Growling he bore down again this time he did not try to kiss Heero, but latched on to Heero's lip ring with his teeth then pulled back, ripping the silver hoop from the delicate flesh of the boy's lower lip.

Heero cried out, a deep rough sound that echoed through the barren building.

Paul, the man Odin had hired to find and ultimately retrieve Heero, watched warily from the shadows. He was only told to find the boy, then keep an eye on him until he was alone then collect him after making a mess so that the police would believe that it was a break-in gone wrong. After he had the boy he had to take him to the warehouse where Odin would be waiting.

But Odin had lied; he had told Paul that he simply wanted his son back. He would collect his son from the warehouse then take him home safe and sound. He never gave any reason as to why the boy ran away in the first place.

Now Paul knew why. The boy was terrified of his father. He had to stop this. He did not need the money this much. Slipping back into the room where he was ordered to wait, Paul pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number.

Duo was smiling sa he waved good-buy to his friends. Their reunion was wonderful. God how he missed his friends. They had spent hours just joking and laughing, reminiscing about the old days when they were in school.

Sighing, he punched in the code to enter his building and made his way to the elevator. Quietly he hummed the tune to some unknown song that must have been playing in the bar while he waited for the lift to take him up to his floor.

The moment the doors opened he knew something was wrong. His apartment door was ajar. Cautiously he approached, listening hard for any sounds coming from within. Hearing none he slowly pushed the door open with the toe of his boot.

It swung open silently revealing his worst fears…

The room was trashed, nearly everything in sight was destroyed, his computer was lying on the floor, the screen cracked. The Christmas tree had been tipped sideways and was resting against the window leading to the fire escape.

The gifts were scattered about, bits of colourful paper littered the floor. Tears welled up in Duo's eyes when he spotted the gift he had purchased for Heero. A lap top Computer. It was crushed as if someone had stomped on it.

* Oh God, Heero *

“HEERO!” Duo cried, despite the fact that Heero could not hear. Tearing through the apartment he froze when he reached the youth's door. The frame was splintered as if someone had kicked it open while it was still latched.

“Oh God no…” Duo whimpered to himself then as if something had smacked him along the side oh the head he got the idea to call the police.

Pulling out his cell phone he dialed Wufei's home number first.

“Hello…” a female voice answered

“Sally, its Duo. I need to talk to Wufei right now.”

“He's not home yet, is something wrong, where's Heero…”

“No time, bye.” He hung up on Sally and pressed the speed dial to Wufei's cell, it rang twice before the Chinese man answered.

“Chang here”

“Wufei, Heero's gone. Someone broke into my place.” Duo sounded frantic.

“I'm on my way, call the department and wait by the elevator.” Wufei ordered then hung up. Looking around and seeing no other cars, he flipped a bitch [1] and made his way back to his friend's home.

He arrived at the same time as the black and white's pulled up. He rode the lift with two uniformed officers who were to access the crime scene, take photographs and make a report.

Wufei found Duo sitting on the floor next to the elevator doors; his face was buried against his knees. He crouched down and laid a comforting hand on Duo's shoulder.

“Duo?” when the braided man raised his face it was clear that he had been crying. “Do not worry, my friend. We will find him.”

“The place it trashed, his door was kicked in. God Wufei, what if…”

“We will find him. Stay here I'm going to talk to the officers.”

With that the Chinese man rose and walked into the apartment, he had to pause and control his anger. What heartless bastard had the nerve to destroy a home and kidnap someone on Christmas Eve.

Walking carefully through the devastation, he approached the officers who were pointing out something on the floor and making notes.

Wufei's eyes traveled down to where the officers were pointing and saw droplets of dry blood on the floor. Anger welled up inside him again but he quelled it quickly and turned to one of the officers and began to ask questions.

Paul's eyes darted about, he would be in deep shit if that violent man caught him calling the police. He waited nervously while the call went through.

“Emergency services ”

“Yes,” Paul whispered “This may sound crazy but please hear me out, I haven't much time.”

“Alright.” The operator replied.

“I was hired to kidnap a runaway boy and return him to his father. I did but now the man who hired me is beating the boy and it looks as if he might try to kill him.”

The operator looked at her monitor, trying to find the location of the call, she had already notified officers and they were standing by. A noticed appeared on her screen, stating that the call was being made on a cell phone.

“Sir what is your location?”

Paul relayed the address of the warehouse and was told to sit tight, the officers were on the way.

Wufei was discussing the police report with one of the officers when his cell phone rang.

“Chang here”

“Fei, its Dorothy. We just got an anonymous call from some guy saying he was hired to nab some kid and turn him over to his father. Think it could be the kid you're looking for?”

“Got an address?”

“Sure do, I'll swing by and pick you up. Une says to bring your friend just in the case that it's the kid you're looking for, he could be shaken up and needs to see a familiar face.”

“E.T.A.?”

“Umm… Ten minutes maybe twelve.”

“We'll be down stairs waiting for you.”

“Sure thing,

“Thanks, Thea.”

“No prob, partner. See ya in ten.”

Wufei flipped his phone closed and pocketed it, after excusing himself from the officers company, he quickly left the apartment and kneeled down, looking into Duo's face.

“My partner Dorothy called, she thinks that they may have found him, thanks to some anonymous caller. She's going to pick us up and take us to the location. I need you incase this is Heero we are going to find. He will need you to be strong.”

Duo nodded dully, unwilling to get his hopes up too soon. This kid may not be Heero.

Paul watched fearfully, the boy lay on the floor bleeding from the many cuts and injuries that his father had inflicted. The blond man stood above the boy, glowering down at the youth anger burning deep within his eyes.

“What the hell is this?” Odin reached down, ripping the bandages from Heero's hears.

Heero whimpered as the muffled sounds he had been hearing were suddenly amplified.

“You worthless little piece of shit.” Odin growled, kicking the boy in the ribs causing him to cry out in pain again, only this time he coughed up blood as well.

“I will make you remember whom you belong too.” With that Odin began undoing the buckle of his trousers.

In too much pain to do more then moan, Heero closed his eyes, knowing just what was coming next.

“Shit!” Paul growled under his breath when he saw the man forcing the boy's pajama bottoms down to his knees.

“Oh no you don't you sick fucker!” Paul shouted as he darted out of the shadows and tackled Odin to the floor.

Odin fought back landing blows to Paul's face, ribs and stomach. The heavy man held his own, simply trying to restrain Odin long enough for the police to arrive.

Heero's father rolled, pinning his attacker beneath him, grabbing the collar of Paul's coat and began smashing the man's head against the floor. He was about to smash Paul's head again when something crashed against his head instead, causing him to topple over.

Rolling to his back Odin looked up through blurry eyes and saw his son standing over him holding a brick, he was glaring down at his father, blood running down his chin.

“You little bastard!” Odin snarled and started to rise, but before he could even lift his head from the floor,
Heero was upon him, swinging.

Paul awoke to the sound of car doors slamming and groaned in pain as he stood up. He heard a sharp cry from is left causing him to look down, the boy was sitting on his father's chest beating him with a brick.

“Stop, stop! Don't kill him the cops are here let them deal with him.” He grabbed the boy by his shoulders and pulled him up off of the bleeding man.

“STOP!” He shouted, giving the boy a shake. Heero froze, the brick falling from his limp hand just before his knees buckled.

“Woah, easy kid.” Paul soothed, easing the boy to the floor. Heero sat, staring numbly at the blood covering his hands.

“Police. Don't move” Dorothy shouted, her gun trained on the larger man hovering over a smaller figure. Paul raised his hands over his head and stood slowly.

“Easy lady, I'm the guy who called ya.”

Wufei approached cautiously, his gun trained on the unmoving figure that lay on the floor a few feet from where the other suspect now stood.

Kneeling down, the Chinese man checked out Odin, finding him alive he radioed for an ambulance then motioned for Dorothy to approach as well.

“Hands behind your back,” She ordered. Paul complied “Now have a seat, we'll get to you in a minute.”

Paul sat next to Heero, he was worried about the kid, he was too pale.

“Heero?” Wufei knelt down, and touched the boy's shoulder. Heero didn't move, he simply sat there starring at his hands.

“What happened?” The Chinese officer asked,

“That fucker tried to rape him.” Paul offered. “ I stopped him but he started beating the shit outta me.”

“How did he get so beat up then?” Dorothy questioned.

“The kid did it, he found a brick somewhere and just when postal on him.”

“Fei, get Duo. I'll keep an eye on things here `till back up arrives.” Wufei nodded and left the building to fetch Duo from the cruiser.

Wufei found his friend sitting on the hood of the police cruiser looking lost.

“Duo, we found him. He's pretty shaken you need to go to him, bring him out here.”

“Alright.” Duo replied and followed his friend into the dark warehouse his stomach wound up in tight knots. He was terrified by what he might find once he was inside.

They found Heero in the same place he had been when Wufei left. Duo stepped up top the shaken youth and crouched down to eye level. He placed his fingers beneath the boy's chin applied gentle pressure causing Heero to look up.

His reaction was instantaneous he threw his arms around his braided love and began crying on his shoulder.

“Shh, it's okay, everything is going to be alright.” Duo soothed, rubbing Heero's back in gentle circles. The American man stood, lifting Heero with him.

“We'll be in the car.” Duo said to Dorothy as he headed for the exit.

Dorothy watched as Duo shifted Heero so that he was cradled lovingly, then nodded to him.

The police back up and ambulance arrived just as Duo settled into the back seat of Dorothy's car with Heero sitting on his lap.

The pair sat there holding each other as watched as the paramedics and other officers entered the building, they returned a few moments later leading the kidnaper to a waiting police car. Odin was wheeled out on a gurney several minutes after that.

Duo didn't care what happened to that bastard, he could rot in hell for all eternity, so long as he stayed away from Heero.

Dorothy and Wufei appeared at the car door and told Duo that they had to stop at the hospital and have Heero checked out before they did anything else.
