Lonely Hearts
Chapter 3
Warnings of Lime-goodness here and suspence…dundundun
Heero had gone to bed an hour before midnight, too worried to sleep peacefully until WuFei had managed to lull him to sleep with some of his poetry. WuFei however was very awake, kneeling in front of Duo's door, picking the lock to get inside and check on his friend. He hadn't heard any movement for a while, Duo hadn't answered him when he was called to dinner, a plate still sat in the fridge, ready to be heated in the microwave.
The thing finally opened just about the time WuFei was about to give up. He put the picks back in his shirt pocket and opened the door quietly. He shut the door behind him and looked around the almost pitch-black room, eyes easily adjusting to the lack of light.
Duo lay on his back, still in his boxers and with the bottle of vodka in his hand. It rested next to his inner thigh, fingers curled limply around the half empty bottle. He snored softly, the end of his braid hanging off the bed and unraveling, the broken hair band on the floor near his clothing.
WuFei again found himself entranced with the American pilot. He watched the finely toned chest rise and fall as Duo breathed, softly curved lips move slightly with each outgoing breath. His best features were hidden however. His eyes shut behind heavy looking lids; the rest of his body covered in either his clothing or in the little shimmer of water that refused to dry.
WuFei walked over on silent feet and grabbed the blanket Duo had kicked on the floor. He gently pried the bottle from Duo's long and slender fingers, setting it on the floor. His hand brushed against the damp fabric of Duo's black boxers. WuFei shivered, thinking Duo was being beyond unwise to allow *that* part of his anatomy to stay cold. He rummaged around in Duo's dresser only to find nothing that was either clean or dry. Sighing he returned to the sleeping figure and gently worked Duo out of the last bits of wet clothing.
Duo moaned softly, face contorting a tiny bit as the still night air finally breathed over his entire form. WuFei dropped the boxers and just stared at Duo, completely nude and prone there on the bed.
His heart skipped a beat and mind raced, stirring feelings he thought were long gone since he had found Heero. He looked over the pail boy, admiring every bit of skin, toned muscle and soft glow he seemed to radiate. Even the curls situated between Duo's long and smooth looking legs seemed to have as much pride as the rope of hair that was now half undone over the side of the bed. WuFei forced himself back to reality when Duo started to roll over onto his side, facing the wall.
WuFei put Duo's half braid onto the rest of the bed and draped the blanket over him taking one last look at Duo's back and rear. He smirked despite himself, mind wondering what that skin felt like under his hands and lips, how it would taste, what sounds those pouting lips would surrender because of that. He also wondered how to would feel to be held by Duo's arms, having his own long hair brushed and taken care of by one who fussed for an hour *at least * every day with his own silken locks.
WuFei brushed caramel colored bangs from Duo's face and smiled softly before leaving the room, finding that old flame still burning within his heart.
/I think I know now, how he feels. I think… I love him all over again. No longer just for who he is… or his looks… but… for every last square inch that makes up Duo. Yes. I most defiantly am in love with Duo again. I have to tell Heero./ WuFei walked along the floor with still silent feet, stopping by the fire one last time to make sure it was out before going upstairs.

While WuFei was checking on Duo downstairs, Heero slept in their shared room upstairs, just above Duo's room. He lay there in the double bed, completely nude save for the sheets that were wrapped around him. He tossed and turned a bit, soft sounds spilling forth from quivering lips while his mind played tricks with old feelings.
/ Something soft against my back, warm and smooth. Smelling of jasmine. Chang? Someone else there too… chuckling softly… nimble hands roaming, teasing, pinching my skin gently... lips blazing a trail of hot kisses all over my neck… my hands tangled in soft, long flowing silk... smelling of chestnut blossoms and thunder storms… Chang's soft voice in my ears, whispering something I can't tell what…I can't breath suddenly, eyes wide… that chuckling again… almost shaking the air around me… soft hands work… oh gods feels so good… I shut my eyes against the feeling, not knowing how they are able to torture me so… I open my eyes to see... Orchid and violet… smiling eyes... bright... warm…/
****
"Duo…" WuFei walked in the door to see his love writhing in the midst of a dream, panting and groaning his and Duo's name. He just stood there and watched, wondering what prompted this dream and subsiding to the little pang of voyeurism that larked behind onyx eyes.
****
/Those lips descend down my chest, already skilled hands from behind me torture my chest as those lips… oh gloriously talented lips move down... And down…I always knew those lips knew something better to do then talk forever… sweet torture, they are urging me on … Chang has that smirk on his face I can feel it. I just about tell him to stop and… I can't help but moan... inside... hot... wet... clever tongue... Great gods… I can't stand it!!…/
****
WuFei, now on the bedside, watching his lover squirm and make feeble attempts at screaming like he usually does, paying close attention to what Heero says. He reached over and got a firm grasp on Heero's erection, causing a definite reaction from his sleeping lover. Heero arched up, struggling madly in the throws of his dream to hit the limit, mind convincing his body it is not a hand but a warm wet mouth wrapped around him.
WuFei leaned over and whispered in Heero's ear, softly. "Come on Lover… come for me…"
Heero's near pained expression and frantic thrusting paid off as he let his essence go, then falling limply against the bed, breathing hard. WuFei chuckled a bit and lay down beside him, pulling Heero into a warm embrace. Heero's eyes fluttered open, suddenly remembering where he was and what was going on.
"Chang?"
"I'm here Heero…"
"Duo?" Heero looked around for the braided beauty only to be greeted by the night air and the moon out the window.
"He's down stairs still asleep. It was a dream." WuFei stroked Heero's hair in a soothing motion, knowing somewhat how Heero felt.
"Oh… a dream." Heero's heart felt like a rock in his chest. He was so convinced that it was real. He also realized how much he wished it * was* real. He sighed and closed his eyes sadly. "Wish he was here." He mumbled into WuFei's chest.
" Me too." That caught Heero off guard. He opened his eyes again and looked into WuFei's.
"You mean that?"
"Hai. It feels… right… just the thought of it. You disapprove?"
"No. I agree. I think… that's what is bothering him too." Heero settled back against WuFei's chest and closed his eyes one last time.
"Death has a lonely heart. I think… I can handle that." WuFei said, earning a chuckle out of Heero and a slight nod.
"Tomorrow… after the mission… we tell him." Heero, feeling satisfied with his decision, went to sleep, followed shortly by WuFei.
****
"Duo... wake up."
" Nnuuhhhhh… nooo…."
"Duo wake up."
"I don wanna'….." Duo rolled over onto his stomach and hid under the pillows like a kid trying to ward off a school day. Heero rolled his eyes and smiled a bit before shaking Duo again.
"Either wake up or I am going to take your covers away." Duo kept protesting. With a sigh, and a little smirk, Heero took a good hold of Duo's blanket and pulled it off.
Duo meeped and scrambled to get some covers over himself. He resorted to a pillow and sat up groggily.
"That wasn't fair." He griped, the effects of a class one hangover starting to take effect.
"I've been trying to wake you up for the last twenty minutes. Here. Takes this." Heero pressed a green pill into Duo's hand and a glass of water into the other.
"What is it?"
"Something for that hangover." Duo shrugged and did as he was instructed, making a face at the after taste. Heero smiled faintly and looked over the struggling pilot. /Chang was right… beautiful…/
"Thanks Heero." Duo mumbled. He wondered how his door was open if he had locked it. And how all his clothing was missing when he knew he was still in his boxers when he went to sleep. /As a mater of fact... where * are * my clothes? /
WuFei popped his head in, arms filled with clean and folded laundry.
"Ah you are finally awake. Good. Get dressed we leave in an hour or so for the mission." He tossed the clothing at Heero who dumped the still warm clothes on Duo's lap. He blinked confusedly and wondered who replaced Heero and WuFei with someone's parents. Heero walked out of the room and shut the door to give Duo some privacy.
Duo stood, pillow still in place and clothing in one arm and headed into the shower to wash up and fix his hair. He could just barely remember someone in his room that night but brushed it off. "Just a dream I guess."
****
WuFei stood in front of the stove, humming to him self an old tune he remembered in his sleep and flipped the pancakes over before they burned. He wasn't the best cook but out of the three there, he was the only one qualified enough to handle pancakes at seven in the morning. Heero sat at the table, looking over the mission statistics one last time before plotting out the best ways to attack. By the time WuFei had the last pancake finished and on a plate Duo walked out into the kitchen, yawning and finishing his braid.
"Mornin'."
"Ohayoo Duo."
"Good Morning Maxwell. Breakfast?" He handed Duo a short stack and watched those still sleepy eyes sparkle a bit.
"All right my fave! Thanks Wu!" WuFei sweatdroped.
"Don't call me that."
Heero shook his head and started eating, giving the others a few minutes of quiet before he started on the mission at hand. It was indeed a quiet breakfast, mostly because Duo was too busy thinking and eating to talk. When things settled a bit Heero began his analysis.
They were to attack from three sides. One was from the air, Heero's department, one from the forest; WuFei would handle that, and lastly from the river that provided power to the entire complex, Duo's task. Since the water was cold and very dark at this time of year him sneaking up the deep river and into the complex should be simple enough. He would have to knock out the power in two places in order for the others to enter safely, since OZ had installed a new automated defense system which should give its troops more time to get into their mobile suits and retaliate.
When all was said and done they would also escape via the same routs and meet back at the hanger. Duo got up, taking the plates to the dishwasher and turning the thing on.
"Sounds simple enough."
"Just be cautious. The only thing we were not sure about was how many suits they have and if there is any form of defense in the river." Heero noted, finishing his coffee.
"I'll be careful. I always am." Duo said with a wink. Heero shook his head.
"Duo this is important that none of us make any mistakes on this. If one of us get captured it is possible we would become one of those test subjects." WuFei said, giving Duo one of his `mother hen' looks. Duo nodded, becoming somber.
"When do we leave?"
"As soon as the Gundams are warmed up and ready to go."
****
::All systems check green Duo. Ready to rock when you are.:: Shinigami rumbled to his little human. Duo nodded and strapped in, checking over everything one last time.
::Ready to go Chang:: Nataku purred. WuFei nodded before securing himself to the seat and plotting the fastest rout to the base.
::Are you sure Shinigami gets to go first?:: Wing asked Heero, who chuckled.
/ Yes I am sure. You don't want to get blasted to bits before we get one shot off do you?/
::No… but I doubt Shinigami wants to either.::
/He can handle himself well enough in his element./
::And what about Duo?::
/He'll be fine. Though I hope we all make it back here because I have some important things to say to him when this is over with./
"Oi guys I'm heading out. See you all there!" Duo's cheeky grin and classic wink flashed on the comm. screen before Shinigami walked out of the hanger and towards the ice covered river.
::Take care you two!:: Nataku called out before Shinigami went into stealth mode and sank into the ice.
::Always do Nataku.:: he replied.
****
It was about nine thirty in the morning and the sun was just starting to peak over the hills. The base was waking up and some of the mobile suits were coming in from morning patrol. Duo already had the power generators targeted, arming his shield weapon and a few missiles he uncloaked and took a good look at his targets.
/Way too easy./ He thought and fired. The main power plant went up in a blaze of fire and electricity. The sirens on the base began to go off as missiles hit the secondary power station. Duo and his Gundam immerged from the river, looking menacing and deadly with the thermal scythe already activated and ready for action.
"All who see me have a date with their maker!" Duo charged a wall of oncoming Leo suits by the time Heero and WuFei arrived from their chosen vectors and attacked.
****
At first it seemed too easy but by about ten in the morning things were not going their way. There were more suits then they had anticipated and some of the turbo lasers had their own power sources, causing Heero to have to stay in the air long enough to be in need of fuel badly. Nataku was in the midst of taking out the barracks and some of the hangers while Shinigami was still taking on Leos and Aries suits one or two at a time.
There wasn't enough fuel to keep the cloak up and he was already running out of deicing fluid in the engines since on of the lines had been blasted open by a well placed shot.
Heero managed to finally land and transform when the last of the underground hanger doors opened and a line of nearly thirty Virgo mobile dolls opened fire on the three Gundams.
"WuFei look out!" Heero shouted as Nataku toppled over, taking some fairly bad damage.
"WuFei are you all right?" Duo asked.
"I'm alive. We need to get out of here."
"No complaints here." Duo chirped. He was about to help Nataku up when one of the Virgo's got a lock on his main engines.
"DUO!" Heero shouted. It was too late.
****
The Virgo took the shot and a few more, splitting the wings of Shinigami in two, blasting off the thruster pack and boring a hole into the Gundam just below the cockpit. Duo swore and turned the Gundam around to face its attacker when another Virgo fired sending the Gundam bouncing into the river. Inside the cockpit Duo was tossed around like a marble in a little tin can. He smashed his head against the control stick and blacked out as Shinigami tumbled into the water. The cockpit began to slowly fill with the black freezing water, inundating Duo's form in the inky depths as Shinigami sank deeper into the water.
"Damn you!!!" Heero pulled the Double Buster Rifle on the remaining Virgos whose backs were turned to him and fired, destroying them completely. Wing helped Nataku to her feet and turned towards the river.
::Shin?::
Nothing
::Shin?::
Still nothing.
::Heero I get no response.::
/Lets retrieve Shinigami and get back to base./ "WuFei think you can make it back on your own?"
"Yes. Get Duo out of there that last blast might have opened the cockpit." WuFei maneuvered Nataku back into the woods after one last blast from the Dragon Fang and faded into the foliage. Wing walked deliberately into the water and turned on its lamps to see where his comrade was.
Shinigami lay at the bottom of the river, not moving and eyes starting to stop glowing their freakish green color. Wing pulled the Gundam out of the muck and back to shore. Heero became deathly frightened when all that water drained out of the cockpit.
"Duo! Answer me! Duo!"
Heero too, received no response.
::He's... alive… Wing can we go home now?:: Shinigami asked, trying to joke though he was damaged and for a Gundam in no small amount of pain.
:: Heero, Shinigami says he's alive. We should return to the house and get both of them into some place warm. Shinigami's motors are beginning to freeze::
/Right… Hang in there Duo./
****
Duo hung limp in the restraints that were left. His entire body had been in the water save for his head, which had stayed above the surface until the time Heero pulled his crippled Gundam out of the river. His body convulsed with cold, lips a faint blue color and his entire body felt like it was on fire.
Shinigami tried again and again to bring him back to consciousness but the gash on his head and the concussion prevented that from happening any time soon.
Duo's last cognitive thoughts were on Heero and WuFei. /Are they ok? Are they still alive? I should have thanked WuFei for breakfast…/
