Nightmare

 

 

Heero followed Duo and the others as they walked to the beach. Duo had, earlier that day talked him into spending the day with Quatra, Trowa and wufie.

Duo, being the very hyperactive teen, rushed towards the ocean, diving in without bothering to wait for the others.

"Bonzi"

 

Heero looked at Trowa. " Does he always rush in like that?"

"Petty much"

Quatra and Wufie made there way to an unoccupied part of the beach, setting up their stuff and followed Duo into the water. Heero and Trowa sat down and watched their friends for awhile before Trowa decided to join them. "you coming Heero?"

"No I think I'll stay here for now."

"suit yourself."

Was Trowa's reply as he made his way to the others.

 

The others had been in the water for a while before Duo noticed that Heero had yet to join them in their activities. Looking at Wufei Duo motioned towards Heero.

" Has he even moved?"

"Not that I have seen."

"Hey guys" calling out to the others "lets go back to shore and play some volleyball"

I just hope he'll join in

"Hey Heero, come play some volleyball" Quatra called, gesturing to the others, who were setting up a net.

Heero looked up from his notebook, when he heard Quatra call him. Setting aside the notebook Heero got up and went to join the others at the net.

 

After a very long and tiring game of volleyball everyone went to grab a drink and headed back towards the ocean.

Quatra, who was following the others paused, noticing that Heero was once more sitting down with his notebook.

"umm, Heero are you not going to join us?

"No"

"Why not, the waters not that cold."

"I don't feel like swimming. "Heero stated coldly, wishing Quatra would leave him alone.

" Ohh, ok"

As Quatra headed back to the others he couldn't help but feel as if Heero was avoiding them. Why won't he join us, he did play volleyball but that's all he's done all day.

Duo gave Quatra a curious look as he joined them in the water.

"Is he not going to join us?

" Apparently not, He nearly snapped my head off when I asked."

" Well I go see him and maybe I can get him to come in

 

As Duo headed back to Heero he couldn't help but wonder what could be bothering his friend. He only gets snappy if something is bothering him or else he wouldn't have bothered to answer Quat.

"Hey Heero why won't you join us?"

Duo asked softly, when he was next to Heero.

" I don't feel like it" was all Heero said, not bothering to look up from his notebook.

Reaching down Duo took a hold of Heero's hand, noticing how he tensed up as soon as he made contact. But Duo was determined. "Come on Heero" pulling him up, "let's go for a walk along the water"

 

Heero glanced nervously at the water then back at Duo. Very relunctantly Heero allowed Duo to take him closer to the waters edge. As they drew nearer however Heero halted, not wanting to go any further.

 

"Duo? can't we stay here?"

Duo looked back at Heero, again noticing how tense he had become.

"What's wrong, we're just going to walk at the edge of the water, nothing more"

And Duo was again pulling Heero towards the water.

Duo finally got Heero walking by the water. With Duo between him and the waters edge Heero managed to relax a little, listening to Duo talk about this and that, not seeming to be able to stay on one particular topic.

 

Trowa ran past them, trying to get away from his boyfriend, who seemed set on pushing him into the water.

Quatra, not paying much attention to what he was doing ran straight into Heero, knocking him over and into the water.

Quatra quickly got up off of Heero apologizing.

" I'm really sorry Heero I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing."

Heero just sat there stunned, staring straight ahead not really hearing Quatra's apology, instead hearing an angry voice yelling at him to behave.

Duo looked between Quatra and Heero. Quatra looked disappointed when Heero didn't respond.

Glancing back Heero Duo thought that Heero looked like he was in shock. Leaning down and speaking gently Duo managed to get a response out of the stunned teen.

"Heero? Come on buddy lets head back home, Sister Helen is expecting us back soon."

Hearing Duo's voice Heero glanced up, noticing that he was still sitting in the water with the others giving him concerned looks.

"you ok Heero?" Quatra asked shyly. "I'm really sorry I didn't mean to nock you over."

"It's ok Quat"

Heero replied, still in a daze.

 

Duo took hold of Heero's hand, pulling him up they both went to gather their stuff up and head home.

--------------------------Later that night--------------------

 

Later that night Duo and Heero sat under their tree watching the stars.

"what happened today Heero?"

"what do you mean?"

" When Quatra knocked you into the water, you completely zoned out. why?"

"I don't want to talk about it ok, Just leave me alone."

"fine. If that is what you truly want."

No it's not what I want, but what else can I do? I don't want t ruin what we have. If I tell you you're going to hate me and push me away, just like every one else.

Heero got up and left Duo under the tree, heading inside without saying goodbye.

 

Tossing and turning Heero was finding it difficult to sleep. He felt guilty for the way he had pushed Duo away even though he had known that Duo was just worried about him. He was also having trouble getting past the reminder of how his mother had treated him.

 

When Duo entered the room Heero pretended to be fast asleep, not feeling up to confronting him. As Duo got settled though Heero began to relax, listening to Duo's even breathing. Soon Heero was fast asleep, comforted by the fact that Duo was in the room.

 

"Shut up and get into the bath."

"What were you thinking, getting your father so angry?"

The women scolded as she viciously scrubbed at the boy's skin.

"You are not to talk back"

She shouted as she pushed her son under the surface of the water. Letting him up she continued to shout as she pushed him under again and again.

"yamero.....tasukete kure"

"No please "

Duo struggled up out of his bed and rushed to Heero.

again Heero's anguished voice called out.

"Why...please stop..."

Sitting on the edge of the bed Duo lightly shook Heero's shoulders.

" Hey Come on Heero wake up. shhhhh it's alright, it's me Duo. Come on buddy it's alright you're safe."

A soft and gentle voice broke through Heero's painful memories.

"Nani"

"D-Duo?"

Leaning forwards Duo lightly ran his hand though Heero's hair.

"Yeah it's me."

Heero stared not sure about what he should do. He really wanted the comfort that Duo was offering him, but he was scared.Is this real, can I really trust him like he claims.

Shaking Heero started to reach out to Duo, realizing what he was doing he snatched his hand back, uncertain.

"It's all right Heero I won't hurt you." Duo soothed as he settled himself comfortably on the bed. Sitting beside the shaking teen, close but not close enough to make Heero feel threatened.

Heero kept glancing at the closed bedroom door, almost as if expecting someone to barge into the room.

"Come on Heero, relax no one's here but you and me."

Looking back at Duo, who was sitting calmly beside him, Heero laid back down beside Duo allowing him to return to running his hands through his hair.

After a while Duo also laid down beside his still shaking friend, putting an arm around Heero, Duo looked into Heero's now terrified eyes.

"Heero?"

Heero tensed even more when Duo started speaking again

"Heero, What's wrong?"

Whimpering Heero pressed closer to Duo.

"S-she hurt me, always hurting me, never stopping, e-even when I begged her to." Heero whispered, not really wanting to talk, but knowing that it was time Duo knew why he always pushed him away.

"If I was bad and got daddy mad she would yell at me, then later she would tell me to get in the bathtub..."

Here he paused, not wanting to retell that which he hated.

Duo held him tighter, encouraging him to continue.

"She h-held me under the water, shouting at me, repeatedly pushing me under until she got over her anger. After she would take me to my room holding me tightly, saying that she was sorry and that she really did love me."

Heero cuddled tighter into Duo, latching onto his braid, seeking his warmth.

"I'm sorry Heero, that I pushed today. We just couldn't figure out why you would not participate in our activities today on the beach. Why didn't you just tell us that you didn't like being in water, we could have done something else that you could have joined in on."

Sighing Heero closed his eyes, the release of so many pent up emotions taking their toll on the young teen.

"I-I didn't want to disrupt your plans, and it was a hot day I didn't mind spending some time on the beach."
Duo just sighed.

"Next time you're uncomfertable about doing something tell us, we're not going to hold it against you, we are your friends."

Duo continued to stroke Heero's hair as the exhausted teen fell asleep, holding tightly on to his braid.
