`Chapter Four - Away I Go`

Sighing he looked back at the house he once called home. 'No more coming here…No matter what I tell myself I know I'm not coming back.' He thought solemnly. Slowly he kept pace, the bag tossed over a shoulder by a matching drawstring. He stared boredly at the ground, the moonlight shining down on him almost inviting him backwards. 'No…Never going back…' He thought again, not able to push himself to look back at the small home. He feared she would be watching from the window, those playful yet knowing aqua eyes shining for him. Waiting for him to turn around or at least tell her where he was headed. Not this time, never again. He knew he wouldn't get 'back on his feet'. He would just have to accept not living with her anymore. The problem was where would he go? If he went to the pilot's she would go there first. No, he would have to wait out a day until it blew over. At least one day on the streets is all.

I didn't want to leave…

I wish I could be back home…

In our warm bed, in our cozy house…

No, I cant, you deserve more…

I'm doing this for you, Hilde…

He set his small bag down, trying to set aside a temporary home among the trash. Two aluminum trashes cans on either side. A severed box for a roof. Yes, this would have to do until tomorrow. He mumbled to himself before perching under. Yanking out a small blanket from his bag he attempted to get comfortable on the half-damp cobblestones. Looking sadly upwards at his moldy cardboard roof he sighed. He never thought this would end this way. Living without Hilde. Beside the conditions he was in now, the more he missed was her. What had it been? Twenty minutes? It doesn't seem like much, but when you know you'll never see that face again, hear her voice, see her smile, ever it gets to a guy. He rolled over, wanting to escape thoughts. Glazed cobalt eyes watched the side of the worn wooden building before he drifted to sleep…

"Duo!" A voice woke him from his slumber. Was he dreaming? All of his troubles, him being on a street all night, was it a dream? It had to have been. Hilde would slap him in the back of the head as always. For once he awaited the painful alarm but nothing came. The soft sound died off, and his eyes grimly parted open. Yes, it was real, everything. There was that 'inviting' wall. His rancid smelling roof and his grime covered walls. He rolled over to face the brownish roof, before he crawled out of hiding. He set his blanket inside its carrier before swooping it over his shoulder once more. "Duo!" The voice called again, sending the pilot into panic as he caught glimpse of the woman. Shooting back between the trash cans as he heard her rhythmic footsteps soon pass. 'Hilde…' He thought longingly. He wanted to go to her, but he knew inside it wasn't right yet. Not yet…

Keep going…Don't look…

I don't want to be found…

Not yet…

What seemed like forever, he waited. Waited to hear those soft strides disappear fully until he got up once more. Slowly he walked straight, away form the city, away from her home, just away. He knew where he was headed though, where she wouldn't look. No one knew where it was, only him. She would be heading to the main place the pilot's took refuge. She wouldn't look here, no she wouldn't know. If Quatre didn't know then she would suspect no one did. Or so all these thoughts were hopes, hopes he wished her not to know. A sad grin plastered upon his features as he kept pace towards the ocean. (A/N: Ya' know in the first few episodes in the beginning of Gundam Wing…When Duo shoots Heero? That place…) His thick shoes clapped the now rotten wood of the dock. Eyes mindlessly gazing across the endless ocean, what he liked to consider one huge puddle that refused to dry up. Keeping that smug smirk as he crept right way to a small shack upon the sandy shore. Cautiously he approached; making sure no one was watching him. He tapped a few times upon the metal door, awaiting a reply form inside. Sure there it was the glare from inside. The door swung open on its squeaky hinges before the braided boy shut it once more. Now inside, the lights dimly flickered on as he sat upon the moth eaten couch. "Heero…?" He said faintly, setting down his pack.

"Going somewhere?" Was the blunt question. He didn't care to show himself, to Duo's eyes he could be anywhere.

"Well…" He sighed lightly. Pleading eyes watching the darkness of the room, looking for any sign of movement.

"You're not staying here." The monotonous statement was delivered and he arose form the shadows of his home. He took a seat upon the stool, a few papers in hand, a laptop now being set open upon the counter.

"H-Huh?!" He said surprised. "Aw, Heero, please, please, please!?" He begged, eyes going large for affect.

"State your reason." He grumbled, seeming engulfed in his work by now.

"Hilde and I…What I mean…" He sighed, trying to get words in order. He knew he wouldn't listen long. He needed to get it out quickly or his 'friend' will lose interest. So, speaking a mile a minute he said it all. Everything that happened up to now, hoping to keep a place to crash for a few days.

Never able to read his face, he waited. The last click sounded before he looked over. "You can stay a week. If you're not back on your feet then, you find somewhere else."

"Thank you so much! Thank you!" He smiled widely; about to hug him before the famous glare cast his way. He thought of keeping his arms and his life and sunk back into the couch.

"You sleep on that couch. You want food, you buy it. You clean up after yourself, and don't bug me unless important." He replied, setting his cold cobalt optics away.

"Yeah, yeah. Like old times, I get the routine." He smirked, getting comfortable upon the couch. 'Watch me Hilde, I'll be back in no time…either that or am going to get killed by Heero…Or live with Wufei and die later…or…' He shuddered slightly, dismissing his thoughts before he spoke again. "You got any papers? I need to look for a job…" A simple glance towards the far wall and he got up to check it out. A wave for 'thanks' as he skimmed the ink.

A/N: Woo Hoo! Like it? Well, next Chapter 5: Good Luck and Good Bye! (pun: Duo's song ^^;; heh) I need at least one review or my fingers will find a way to stop typing…Ugh, see there they go…
