Love will prevail

`Chapter Three - Shattered`

He didn't really know what to do about this situation. But, after a few hours of sitting and thinking. The mind numbing silence got to the once active and loud pilot. He needed to go upstairs; she couldn't get mad at him for that, right? I mean, they did share the same bed, and bedroom. He slowly padded upstairs, wrapping the shimmering glass heart in a crimson handkerchief. He slowly entered the room, eyes falling on the lump upon the bed. He crept over, hiding the object in the top dresser drawer before setting himself in. He watched her sleep; she looked peaceful, yet so sad as well. He knew why, the tear streaks were still visible on her moonlit face. He had made her cry, he had a thought he did, but he never intended her to at all. Some friend he was, and he was trying to be more than a friend? Why would she want a lousy boyfriend as well? He sighed, defeated by his own thoughts. He gently pulled the covers over himself seeing no need to set the alarm since neither now worked. He didn't know how they would live now; the only money he had left was fifty dollars. He knew Hilde had around two hundred but that couldn't hold 'em up for long. He didn't want to take her money as well. He decided, he needed to go. He was no use to her, no need to her at all. So, what was the point…?

All I wanted to do was make it right…

Give everything to you…

Help you, be there when you needed it…

But, look at me, all I need is you…You don't need me at all…

He thought he was going to die without her, but better to die than have your heart die everyday. He made up his mind, eyes blinking away any doubt they held. Any moisture they wished to spill. He got up once more, making sure not to disturb her as he grabbed an onyx bag. He began to stuff it with various items he thought he'd need. Scribbling upon a note card,

`Hilde, you've been a great friend. But, I don't want to trouble you anymore. You don't need me, so I'll just leave and give you a better life. I miss you already; Hilde…But I need to go here's one last gift for you. Don't worry, someday we'll see each other again, kay? I'll be on my feet and ready to help you out the way I should. Be a true friend, you know? Bye… - Duo`

He carefully took out the shining glass heart. He gently opened the bandana, placing the card on top to shield the precious glass object. He walked over to the sleeping girl. A smile pricked at his lips as he watched her sleep. Slowly approaching, he brushed aside a loose lock of indigo. He would never make her cry again… "Bye, Hilde, see you soon." He mumbled softly. He placed the coal black baseball hat upon his head. He left the room, a wandering shadow with no where to go.

The sunbeams peeked through the window, waking the girl who was once sleeping. She yawned, a hand lazily swatting behind her. She once thought she'd hit him as she always did to wake him up. But…He wasn't there. His pillow wasn't even indented. His whole side was neat, 'That's weird…' She thought, thinking he may have woken up by now. A glimmer of hope, that was all it was. It was too early for him to be up, right? He never woke up this early. It was only eight, the flashing red numbers told her so. But, then why wasn't Duo there? She got up reluctantly form her soft comforting blankets and was about to walk to the closet when something caught her eye. "N-NO!" She had read the note, the simply gift in her palm. She didn't think he would leave, did she drive him off? She ran to the window, opening it a bit too roughly as the pane slammed against the side wall. "DUO!" She yelped, but nothing, he was gone. He was gone form her life for good wasn't he? He wasn't one to drift back and forth, she knew that much.

She was at a loss for words as she crept back to her closet. She had to look for him, had to find him. Where would he go? Only to the pilot's right? That was her only lead. Grabbing a navy sweater and tan cakis she ran down the stairs. Quickly putting on her sneakers, the red bandana and the crystal blue heart held in her hand. She ran down that street as if her life depended on finding him.

Don't look for me…

I'm not worth it…

Go back, Hilde…I don't want to be found…
