Chapter 3:
Heero watched with a soft smile on his face as the fairy floated away to join with its friends. For some reason, he felt like a kid all over again. He caught his parents making the `aw, he's so cute' look at him and blushed.
“AW! Hee-chan!” Keumi glided from her husband and took her only son up in her arms. Heero returned the hug as his mother tucked her head under his chin. The smile still tugged at his face though the blush still colored his face.
Odin smiled fondly at the two. They were his world after all. His heart and soul.
Someone off to the side cleared their throat hesitantly to get their attention. Kristin stood excitedly behind the cashier desk. His soft blue eyes glittered as he presented a box to them. “Heero, I do believe I have the perfect pet for you.” He lifted the case quickly as the boy raised and eyebrow at him curiously.
Two large stark white ears shot up and swiveled about. The head they were attached to slowly lift as well. It looked to be an albino desert fox but it had bright solid deep blue eyes. Its glossy black nose twitched as it sniffed and took in its surroundings.
”This is Wing.” Kristin announced. Just then another almost identical head lifted beside Wing's. Its eyes were a softer but solid shade of sky blue. “And this is Zero.” The store clerk reached in with his chubby hands and lifted the animal out.
It was the size of a full grown Jack Russell terrier. Its bushy tail swished lazily behind it. Each leg had a black band of fur around each ankle as well as its neck.
Heero's eyes widened as he took in the glowing animal. It would look to be normal if it was for the fact that the two heads were on one body. This fact didn't dampen his curiosity however.
Both sets of eyes focused on him. Without hesitation, the two headed creature jumped into the teen's arms and rested their heads on his chest.
“Brilliant! We'll take them!” Keumi squealed. She clapped her hands together happily. “How much?” Kristin raised his hands and shook his head.
“Just between us, he's free. Heero's the first one he's ever taken to. OH, what out for when he starts to shed and grow his wings.”
Heero nodded absentmindedly as he studied the animal in his hands. When he felt his father's hands on his shoulders maneuvering him to the exit, he took his eyes from his new pet. Things were getting really interesting really fast.
“Next stop, wands!” Keumi happily skipped forward. Both men watched the woman with exasperated looks. It was hard to tell who the child was sometimes.
Unlike the other shop, the next store was larger and designed more like a library. While half the shop was empty the other side was filled with rows of shelves with boxes. A long counter cut the room in half and two torches lit the room.
“Hello!” The Japanese mother leaned over the counter carefully and peeked down the hall to her left. It was dark.
“One moment please!” A feminine voice called. It was rather timid, almost like a librarian's would be. They didn't have long to wait for the owner.
She was a tall young woman with wide green eyes that had laugh wrinkles at the cover. She was fair skinned with an olive complexion and slightly grayed cinnamon colored hair. Her thin frame was clad in a simple pair of flowing black dress pants and a yellow button down shirt that hid her chest well.
She bowed slightly as a way of greeting. “Hello, I am Amira (A-my-ra) Barton. How may I help you?”
“Amira? S's…..Amira!” Keumi cried happily. She reached over the counter and latched onto the startle woman. “We were in band together. You turned the teacher into a frog.”
Amira smiled sheepishly. “It was a toad. I didn't think I'd see you after we graduated.” She gave the other woman a once over.
“You remember Odin right?”
The green eyed woman smiled warmly at the man. “Aw, you turned him into a—
“Squealing sow!” The finished the sentence together and began to laugh. Odin endured the embarrassing story with dignity. Heero watched the two exchange memories of their high school years
“You have grown a lot.” Amira finally said. Keumi curtsied politely and beamed at her friend.
“Motherhood will do that to a girl.”
The taller woman's eyes widened in surprise. Her green eyes moved from Keuimi to Odin then finally to Heero. The teen only looked back at her without comment.
“Oh!” Heero was surprised yet again as the woman leapt over the slab of wood separating them and glomped him. Wing Zero squirmed and whined under the pressure. The sales clerk then released him and gave an apologetic kiss to both heads' noses. “I have someone I want you to meet as well.”
As if on cue, a tall grey haired man and a younger boy walked from the hall. The older gentleman was a clean two inches taller than Amira. His face was long but suited his facial features.
His grey hair was pulled back in a sporty looking ponytail. He wore a similar outfit to the other woman but had settled for a more subtle colored shade of blue. He wore a pair of thin framed glasses low on his nose. His calculating brown eyes seemed to see through everything.
“S!” Keumi waved at the man and stared intently at the boy beside him. The boy was a few centimeters shorter the S. His cinnamon colored hair was swept in a gravity defying uni-bang that covered his entire left eye. The eye that could be seen was a breathtaking shade of emerald that bore into one's soul.
“This is Trowa. Our son.”
Trowa nodded his head politely. Just then a flurry of black and grey fur circled around his head and landed on his shoulder. It looked like a lemur. Black bands adorned its tail and biceps of each arm. Two pieces of flesh attached from its underarm to it ankles (think of a flying squirrel). Its large brown eyes surveyed the new customers attentively.
“And who is this?” Odin laughed.
“Heavyarms.” Trowa said quietly. He gently brushed his finger through the small animal's fur escalating a delighted purr. Trowa then looked at the bundle of white in Heero's arms.
“Wing” Wing's head popped up and swiveled his head to his owner. “Zero.” Zero did the same. Trowa nodded.
“I'm really happy for you.” Keumi said. “Heero, agreed to attend the school.” Amira nodded at that.
“Trowa has been attending since his freshman year in high school. He graduated last year but is attending for an extra. I'm sure he'll help Heero with anything he may need.”
Heero and Trowa nodded in silent agreement with what was said.
“Now, Trowa, please show Heero some of our wands while we catch up with our friends.” This time S spoke. His voice was a smooth sound that was easily carried off with the breeze. He moved and lifted a part of the counter away to give way to Heero following his son. “Don't get lost.”
Heero nodded.
The shop was bigger than Heero thought. The shelves seemed endless from each end he looked from. He followed Trowa carefully and mentally marked which shelf they past.
“Do you know what element you're good at?” Trowa's voice sounded. It was similar to his father if not softer.
“Element?”
“Each wand is made from a feather of a phoenix. Phoenixes come in a wide variety depending on what element they derive from.”
Heero nodded at this. “I don't really know.” He looked warily over the many layers of boxes.
“That's where this comes from.” The uni-banged teen stopped before a machine. It looked like one of the free blood pressure machines that stores kept by the restrooms.
There was a small monitor with two different rows of information categories. Beside the first read `level', and the second read `element'.
To demonstrate, Trowa sat in the blue chair sitting in front of the machine and slipped his arm inside the tubular piece. Once his forearm was resting on the other side and his bicep was snug inside. He pushed a few buttons and the machine began to beep.
The sound of compressing air sound and the black balloon inside the tube. Once the air was finished pumping, the monitor began to flicker.
Level: 03
Element: Forest
The contraption then let go of Trowa's arm and he stood and motioned Heero to sit. Heero hesitated but complied all the same. He repeated what the Latin's procedures.
Level: 01
Element: Light
Trowa seemed a little surprised at the reading but went to fetch the appropriate wand for the younger teen. “Let's go back”
