Mystery Case One Chapter 2: Scary Forests

It seemed like forever when they started their drive within Europe. For the time being, they were heading toward the home of Dorothy Catalonia. She had offered for them to stay within her castle while they went on search of Relena. Unknown to her, Zechs placed her as the prime suspect.

"Man! There's nothing but a bunch of trees out there! How can I prevent myself from getting car sick if all I see is tall, green trees," Duo started to whine. He had eaten most of his snacks, and wasn't allowed to eat anything else until later. He felt like he was being treated like a kid, but he knew Heero was just trying to preserve their food.

"Trowa, I think you're going the wrong way," Quatre said looking at the map carefully. Not that he really knew how to read a map, but he was getting the hang of it due to some things Heero told him. Blue was for water, green for vegetation, brown for contour elevations, black for most manmade objects, red for other manmade objects, and white was open area or grass.

Either way Trowa looked and immediately stated, "Nope, I'm going on the right road. You forgot what the last sign we passed stated."

Sighing, the blonde boy decided to just daydream, being that that was all he had left to do. Wufei was somehow able to meditate, and Heero looked like he was doing the same thing, or sleeping sitting up.

"Hey Wufei, could you scoot over? I'm going to take a nap on the couch," Duo stated yawning to emphasize how tired he was. The Chinese boy looked irritated, but he scooted over and allowed the braded boy to fall asleep.

It wasn't until later, in the middle of the night, when Duo awoke from feeling someone shake him. After yawning and stretching a bit, he found the car had stopped, and they were still in a forest area.

"What's going on? Why did we stop," he then asked looking around and finding everyone looking worried. Quatre and Trowa looked like they were discussing something important, Wufei was someone Duo didn't bother asking questions to, so it was left to Heero, to answer his question.

"We think we hit something, and Trowa wants to go check to see if we did." This immediately caused the braded boy to shudder slightly.

"You mean, go outside into that…forest?? All by himself," Duo said gulping suddenly.

"No, I'm going with him! Could you please hand me the flash light," Quatre said startling the braded boy. Either way Wufei handed him two flashlights, and just sighed. He had a feeling this would happen.

Both the green-eyed boy and blonde then got out of the car, and started to head back down the road they were driving on. Leaving Duo to crawl next to his Japanese friend, and try to calm down. He'd seen a bit too many horror movies to know that it wasn't wise to go out into the forest in the dark.

"It's cold. I'm just trying to warm up," was his excuse to the other boy. Grabbing a blanket, Heero casually wrapped it around him and the violet-eyed boy. Wufei just shook his head, and stated, "Scared of dark forests huh?"

"Shut up! There could be murderers and dead bodies out there!! Anything can happen," the braded boy said frantically. Clearly seeing he was scared, the Japanese boy wrapped his arm around the boy's waist, and stated, "Don't worry. That only happens in the movies. Now go back to sleep."

"Okay," Duo said back, feeling a bit safe, and closing his eyes. His fears were starting to go away, and he was falling asleep again, until they all heard a scream from the outside.

"Holy shit!! What was that?!? What was that," the braided boy yelled in panic. He was quickly hushed, and they heard running, and could hear Trowa yelling something. Then all went quiet on the outside. It was then, that Wufei looked up at the front windows, gasped, and quickly sat back down.

"What is it," Heero asked whispering. Not wanting to appear weak, but figuring there was no point in hiding his fears, the Chinese youth quickly moved, and sat on the other side of the dark-haired boy, and answered, "Quatre left his door open. So whatever is out there, will be able to get in."

"Shit, Duo let go of me, I'm going to close it," the dark-blue eyed boy stated, trying to be brave. It wasn't until he was standing up, and starting to lean towards the blonde's door, that he started to get a little scared about this. But he had to do it for the other's sake.

"Be careful Heero," Duo whispered, hanging onto his leg. This distracted him for a mere second, but the hand grabbing onto his wrist brought him back to the door with a very loud, "AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!"

"Heero! It's just me," Quatre yelled, getting into the car, closing and locking his door. Trowa did the same on the other side. They made sure their windows were up, and then jumped into the back with the others. Soon everybody was wrapped up in one or two blankets, and hanging onto one another for dear life!

"What happened out there," Heero asked.

"There was a tall shadowy figure out there, in the forest," Trowa answered, holding onto a shaking blonde. A few minutes passed, and they began to relax, thinking what was out there was leaving. Yet again, they heard some noises. Footsteps, yelling, and then they felt a push against the van. It didn't really help that it was dark at either.

"Damn it! I should've brought my sword," the black haired teen stated, holding onto Heero's arm tightly. On that note, Trowa then commented, "And I should've brought my sister's throwing knives!"

"I really wish I had a gun right now," Heero decided to join in. That wasn't really what he wanted to say, but he was afraid to admit what he really wished he had brought. Duo ended up saying, "And I wished I had ate the rest of those skittles! And all the other food! What a waste!"

He was smacked on the head, but just smirked, trying to cheer things up. This left Quatre the only one who hadn't said anything. Looking at him, they listened as he said, "And I wish my guardian Rashid were here."

It was then he got an epiphany, and got up from the back yelling/questioning, "RASHID!?! Is that you out there??"

Several footsteps were then heard, and looking up from where they were hiding, the other boys found about forty Arabian looking people outside of their van. Opening the door, the tallest of them peaked his head through, and said, "I'm sorry master Quatre for scaring you and your friends, but we thought we had lost you. We will help you the rest of the way to the Catalonia household."

"What the…?? Who do you guys think you are!?! You scared the shit out of us man," Duo was pissed to say the least. He acted like a complete coward, and was angry to find it was nothing but the blonde's bodyguards looking for him. He was calmed down though, as Heero wrapped him up in a blanket, and sat with him on the couch. The rest of their drive to Dorothy's was fine.
