Chapter 3

 

They continued to stare at each other for about thirty seconds then Duo broke the silence.

 

“I'm Duo Maxwell.” He said extending his hand.

 

“Nice to finally meet you in person.”

 

“So, did you get the song down?”

 

“Yeah, I do have to admit it difficult. Trowa had said that you wrote it yourself?” Heero stated as he started to take out his guitar.

 

“Yeah, it was one of my more challenging songs. No one has managed to wow me yet. Hopefully you will because you're my last hope if I'm going to get this band moving.” Duo laughed as he got a chair for Heero to sit on. “Ok, so I'm going to let you play the song by yourself first. Then after that I'll add the words with you, ok?”

 

“That's sounds fine.”

 

Heero took the offered chair and perched the guitar on his knee. He took a deep breath and started to play the song.

 

Duo was watching closely at Heero's finger positioning and how they danced perfectly over the fret board, nailing the chords perfectly.

 

`Wow, he's really good. I hope he doesn't screw it up because so far he's defiantly a keeper.' Duo thought as he continued to watch Heero.

 

Heero was concentrating with all his might trying extremely hard not to mess this up.

 

`This is my one chance to finally get into a band I hope I'm doing alright. He doesn't look pissed or anything.'

 

He finished the song and looked up at Duo expectantly.

 

“That was really good Heero.” Duo said amazement clear in his voice.

 

“Thanks, you don't know how hard I practiced.”

 

“It really shows in your playing. How long have you been playing for?”

 

“For about six years. I got my first guitar when I was sixteen. My Father went ballistic when he found out I got it.”

 

“Why?”

 

“He didn't really appreciate the art of music; he was mostly interested in his business and money.”

 

“Oh, one of those.”

 

Duo was curious about Heero. He wanted to more about him. `That's for another time Duo, business first.' He told himself sternly.

 

“Well, let's try it with me singing the song and see how it sounds.”

 

“Alright.”

 

“Duo turned on the tape recorder on the desk and motioned for Heero to begin. Heero began the song then Duo joined in with the words. It was a little awkward at first and they had to restart a few time. But eventually they nailed it.

 

“That sounded so much better with actual music then just my voice.” Duo said with a smile.

 

“I'm sure it sounded great with just you.” Heero said, then realized in horror how that must have sounded.

 

It's not that Heero didn't want Duo to think he was gay. After all he was bi, but he didn't feel right making Duo think he was flirting with him this early.

 

“Yeah I guess, but this sounds so much better.” Duo said his inner voice jumping up and down joyously as he recognized Heero's comment as somewhat flirting…maybe.

 

“So what's the verdict?” Heero somewhat dreaded the answer to that question.

 

“Are you kidding, you defiantly got it.”

 

“Really? Oh man, thank you so much. I really appreciate this.” Heero smiled brightly at Duo who gave him an equally if not brighter smile in return.

 

“No problem. Say are you hungry?”

 

“Umm, sure?”

 

“Great I'm starving let me buy you lunch and then afterwards I'll call up the rest of the band so they can come down and meet you. Sound cool?”

 

“Duo, you don't have to buy me lunch, I should be buying you lunch as a thank you for this opportunity.”

 

“Don't be stupid Heero. Come on.”

 

“Well… if you insist.”

 

“I do, now let's go before I'm forced to eat my sound equipment.”

 

Heero just rolled his eyes at that statement. He knew he would get along well with Duo, but he was a little apprehensive about the rest of the band. He wasn't a very good people person in his opinion.

 

Duo grabbed Heero's hand, which Heero's mind very happily cheered and dragged him out of the building and to his car. They got into the car and drove out of the parking lot to lunch. Heero hoped he could learn more about Duo. He was really starting to like him.

 

Duo glanced sideways at Heero. He hoped that he could talk to Heero more about his life and maybe dig a little bit deeper. He hoped Heero was in to guys because if not, Duo would go crazy.
