Ch. 4

 

Heero parked the car near a diner that hey went to often. He figured neutral atmosphere would be more comfortable between the two considering they were just friends.

 

`Hopefully just for now.' Heero thought as he glanced at Duo who was unbuckling his seatbelt and getting ready to exit the car.

 

They sat down at a table near the back of the diner and a waitress came promptly with menus and asked for their drink orders.

 

“I'll have a beer.” Duo said smiling up at the waitress.

 

“Ok. And you sir?” She asked facing Heero.

 

“Water is fine thank you.”

 

The waitress walked away promising to be back promptly.

 

“Not an indulger I see.” Duo stated slyly.

 

“I'm not big on alcohol. My ex-girlfriend was an alcoholic.”

 

“Ex-girlfriend?” Duo had a hopeful tone to his voice.

 

“Yeah, as of two days ago.”

 

“Sorry to hear that.”

 

“It doesn't matter, it was pending.”

 

“So I take it you like girls then huh?”

 

“I don't believe in just being straight or gay, I believe that if you like or love someone, it doesn't matter what gender they are, as long as they love you back.” Heero said with passion in his words.

 

“Wow, I've never heard it put that way before.”

 

“What about you?” Heero asked anticipating and dreading the answer at the same time.

 

“I'm all about the guys.” Duo said happily an amused smile on his face.

 

“If you don't mind me asking, are you strictly gay are bi?”

 

“You know I've never really thought about it. I guess if the right girl came along I'd be up for it. But so far I've only been interested in men.” Duo said with a thoughtful expression.

 

At that time the waitress came with their drinks and asked for their orders.

 

After ordering their food they went back to their conversation. Heero decided to change the subject.

 

“So how did you get into music?”

 

“Ever since I was young I've always wanted to be in a band and be a singer. But I guess I didn't have enough guts to actually do it. Then Jake, the old guitar player asked me to join him to start a band when I was fourteen. We got some other guys together and that was that.”

 

“Were you any good?”

 

“Hell no, we sucked. Got booed off stage a few times.” Duo had a huge grin on his face as he was remembering his childhood.

 

Heero decided he liked Duo's smile and wanted to see it as much as he could.

 

Their food came and the conversation dies for a few minutes while they ate in comfortable silence. Then Duo started the conversation again.

 

“So, what do you do for work?”

 

“Nothing exciting. I work two part time jobs. One at a coffee shop and one at a computer store.”

 

“So I take it you like coffee and computers?” Duo said with a smile.

 

“Less coffee and more computers.” Heero said taking a sip of his water.

 

“Right, note to self, no coffee for Heero.” Duo said in a distant voice.

 

Heero laughed at this and looked at Duo amusedly.

 

They settled into a comfortable silence once more and finished their meal. After a little argument about the check again, Heero finally accepted Duo's offer and let him pay. They walked to Heero's car and headed back to the studio.

 

“I'll call the other guys and have them meet us at the studio so you can meet them.” Duo said as he whipped out his cell phone.

 

“Sure, I can't wait to meet them.” Heero said as he smiled at Duo.

 

The rest of the car ride was filled with Duo's voice talking on the phone and Heero giving him fond looks from time to time.

When they arrived at the studio, a car was already parked in the lot. Duo recognized the car immediately.

 

“That's Asato's car.” He told Heero, who in return gave him a confused look. “He's our bass player.” Duo supplied.

 

“Oh.” Heero said as they parked and got out of the car.

 

They headed inside and Heero spotted a man sitting in a chair near the wall eating a muffin. Heero noticed that he had the same color eyes as Duo but shorter hair. But the resemblance was eerily striking

 

“You never change Asato.” Duo said amusedly a he eyed the muffin in the man's hand.

 

“You know me; I have to have my seven desserts a day.” Asato said happily taking another huge bite out of his muffin.

 

“Heero, this is Asato Tsuzuki, he's our bass guitarist. Asato this is Heero Yuy the new lead guitarist.”

“Nice wo weet wou.” Asato said through the muffin in his mouth and held out his hand.

 

“Nice to meet you too Asato.” Heero took the offered had and shook it.

 

“Now we just have to wait for the others.” Duo said looking around the room.

 

“Hey Duo, if you don't mind, would I be able to hear another one of your songs?” Heero asked hoping Duo would say yes. He really wanted to here that sexy singing voice of his again.

 

“Sure, let me find one to play.” He said thoughtfully as he skimmed through the computers list of songs. “Oh, this one's really good.” He clicked the mouse and a soft guitar came out of the speakers.

 

//Looking out the door I see the rain

Fall upon the funeral mourners.

Parading in a wake of sad relations

As her shoes fill up with water.//

 

Heero listened almost in a trance to Duo's melodical voice. He was a very dramatic singer when the mood was right. Heero knew for sure now that he really liked Duo and wanted him to know as soon as he was sure that Duo liked him too.

 

//Maybe I'm too young

To keep good love from going wrong.

But tonight, you're on my mind so

You'll never know.//

 

Duo watched Heero listen to the song and saw the trance like state he was in. He wasn't aware that his singing could do that to someone, but apparently it could from the look on Heero's face. He wanted to kiss Heero at that very moment because he knew that Heero truly did like him and he was so happy to know hat someone actually wanted him not just for his body.

 

//Broken down and hungry for your love.

But no way to feed it.

Where are you tonight?

Child you know how much I need it.//

 

At this time other members of the band were walking in and sitting down on either chairs or the floor. It seemed they were pulled in to listen to the song also.

 

//To young to hold on.

And to old to just break free and run.//

Sometimes a man, gets carried away.

When he feels like he should be

Having his fun.

Much to blind to see the damage he's done.

Sometimes a man must awake to find he really has no one.//

 

Heero discretely walked over to Duo and just as discretely put arm around the American's waist.

 

“It's beautiful Duo.” Heero whispered into Duo ear affection ally.

 

Duo shivered and leaned into Heero's hold never wanting him to let go. Ever.

 

“Thank you.” Duo whispered back equally as quiet.

They stayed like that content in each others company until the song was over.

 

//So I'll wait for you… and I'll burn

Will I ever see your sweet return?

Oh, will I ever learn?

Oh, lover, you should have come over.

Cause it's not too late.//
