Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Proposal ❯ DO IT! Wait, that didn't work... ( Chapter 2 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
It's less fluffy and, well, :sniff: read:

He paced outside the hall of Relena's bedroom, looking a bit crazed. According to tradition, he should get down on one knee and say something sappy, then ask her to be his bride or something. Sounded good to him.
About a half an hour later Relena emerged, she smelled like wildflowers and soap. She was wearing a light blue sundress that accented the color of her eyes and she could never wear to work. She encountered Heero face to face and frowned, she was now pretty annoyed with him for making her miss two days of work. "What?"
Her perfume made his eyes glaze over but he snapped his attention back to her when he heard the tone of her voice ringing in his ears. "You're angry," he said in monotone.
"Damn right I'm angry!" she pushed him out of her way and strode down the hall towards the steps. Her fists were balled up and she spun around when she reached the banister. "I have responsibilities. I can't just skip a couple of days of work to sleep! I never asked you to do this for me, and you had no right to make that choice for me."
Heero swallowed, she was right, but he had been worried for her and he thought it for the best. Now he realized that it wasn't his choice. He felt a sinking feeling but his face remained expressionless. That's right, he had a mission.
"Wait, Relena." He took three steps toward he and she stopped but still looked at him with cold eyes.
Relena looked into his eyes, trying to see a sign of remorse. She gasped when she didn't see anything, like back in the days of the war. It scared her.
Relena went from angry to concerned in .3 seconds. Heero wondered why. "Heero?" she asked tentatively. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She took a step back. Oh, great, now I've scared her, Heero thought. He started to get nervous and he didn't like it.
"I- It doesn't matter," he said. Do it, a voice said. C'mon!
"It does to me," Relena said defiantly. Heero's palms started to sweat, he didn't like this foreign feeling, this was worse than knowing you were going to die, he was hardly ever nervous like this. His mouth went dry and she couldn't speak.
Relena looked in his eyes, they flickered the slightest bit and she had learned to read them, it meant something was wrong. "What's wrong, Heero?"
Do it! Do it! Do it! Heero's breathe came out in shorter, quicker breaths. What do they want from me?! "It's nothing at all," he said stoically.
"Heero, I know you, something's wrong, what is it?" Relena said, she took a step towards him and reached out a hand.
Tell her! Do it! Propose! Fulfill your mission! Do your duty! DO IT!!!! "It's nothing."
"Heero, tell me!" Relena stamped her foot. DO IT! DO IT! DOIT! DOIT!DOIT!DOIT!!!!
Heero seemed to feel out of his body, everyone was telling him to do something and he felt uncomfortable. His mind screamed at him, but he was so nervous, it was hard to tell what he should do, how he should do it… Finally he gave in.
He pulled back from his mind and did his actions mechanically. "Here," he took the ring box out of his pocket and placed it in her hand forcefully, although again he had spoken in monotone. "I give up, you win."
Relena's hand closed on the box. Her heart ached at the tone in his voice. She blinked and opened her eyes slowly. This can't be what I think it is… She risked a glance at Heero, searching for an answer.
Eyes straight ahead, body unmoving, Heero said, "Marry me." It wasn't even a question, just a statement.
She looked slowly back down at the box and brought her other hand up to stroke it, she was tempted to open it, but her eyes started to water. 'Here. I give up, you win.' He didn't even sound like he wanted to. Tears spilled over her cheeks. She tried to hold back from sobbing. She looked up at Heero's face sadly. Maybe he was just… Maybe he didn't know… She searched for love in his eyes… for emotion, or even caring… and found none.
He looked like the perfect soldier. Instead of finding love, she saw what seemed to be anger or annoyance. She loved him, but she couldn't marry some one without love returned, no matter how much she did love him. She had done it for years, but marriage, was different. She couldn't, she wouldn't, be used like that. The only reason there could possibly be for his behavior was if he didn't want to marry her.
The hand that was so tempted to reveal the contents of that box went to cover her mouth in anguish. "Heero," she began, she put her head down and saw as more tears hit the floor, "I'm sorry, I can't," Heero's eyes widened and he snapped out of it, but she couldn't see that, she was already turned and running away.
He was talking, speaking to her, (and hopefully proposing) although he didn't even know what words were coming out of his mouth. All of a sudden she started to cry. Why is she crying? Even when she put her head down, he still saw tears streaming out of her eyes. Is she happy? Is that why? But the words he heard, the only words he heard, were not of happiness:
"I'm sorry, I can't." His heart stopped. Or it felt like it sis, he stopped breathing as a million feelings rushed through him: shock, anguish, pain, anger and love. He stared after her as she ran away from him, then another feeling overcame him like never before, sadness.
Relena was his everything. She had saved his soul and given him humanity. She had been there and loved him when he didn't even love himself. Without her… he felt nauseous, like some one was squeezing his insides, his throat knotted up until he couldn't breathe. He willed himself to calm down, but as other signs disappeared, there was a strange burning sensation in his eyes. He had felt this a couple of times before.
Tears.
There were only enough tears to wet the bottom lids of his eyes to be wet, unlike her. Her salty tears rolled down her cheeks almost endlessly. Thinking of that, of her, Heero's eyebrow began to twitch with the effort of holding back his tears.
"Relena," he said softly. In his opened hand was the box with the ring. His shoulders shook and his face was covered from view when he looked at the floor.
Mission: Proposal: Failed.

I'm sorry! The next part will be more fluffy and out soon! I cried when I wrote part it. :sniff: I get emotional like that. Does that make it angsty? (nooooooooo……) oh well, it will be fluff! Wait until the next part, and ppl, don't flame me saying, 'oh, this isn't fluff!' it is, it just has a plot, and it happens to be long… but that's just my style.
