Chapter 35:
Milliardo walked quickly towards Trieze's office. Why he was being called so late/early was a mystery not that he was sleep to begin with. Sleep never came easy for the deceitful. The looks of betrayal on Heero and Wufei's face plagued him whenever he closed his eyes. The only way to get away from it all was to stay awake as long as possible. Sooner or later, he would pass out from exhaustion.
He came to the wooden door that had a simple golden plaque that read 'Trieze Kushrenada' and knocked softly.
"Come in." Trieze called from inside.
Milliardo pushed the door open slowly peeking in seeing his commanding officer seated at his desk lookng over paperwork. "You called?" The blonde man asked patiently. Trieze nodded once without looking up. "Is something wrong?" He asked moving inside the room and closing the door behind him.
"I want you to recruit those prisoners we recieved two days ago."
Milliardo paused eyed widening considerably. "Sir, we have an age limit..."
Trieze stood slowly stalking towards the slender agent. Milliardo could see strength in every step. At first he found himself impressed with the tawny haired man but it had mutated into some deep desire that he fought hard to keep secret. Most of the time he didn't know how well he had succeeded in that task. Trieze came to stand in front of the agent giving him a sincere glare. "In two years, I want you to offer the agent contract to them."
"But the age--" Trieze pressed a finger to the man's lips watching as a light flush settled on the man's cheeks. He really was cute. He replaced his hand with his lips in a quick peck. Milliard jumped back bringing his hand to his lips.
"I'm counting on you." Trieze said in amusement. He turned back to his desk and sat. "You're dismissed."

The morning, all inmates were gathered into a large auditorium-like room. The chairs were arranged in a wide circle around a cylinder shaped chamber. The chamber's walls were made up of double layered bullet and shatter proof glass designed to be air tight once the door was sealed shut. Inside the chamber was Badunda. He stood solemnly with both hands shackled in front of him.
Wufei stared at his roommate grimly. They had given them front row seats to the execution. He was not impressed at all. It was dishonorable putting the man's death on display like he was some type of circus show. His facial expression darkened as he watched Heero and Duo make thier way over to thier 'VIP' seats. By the looks on their faces, they hadn't told them why they were here.
Duo's confused face turned into a careful jester grin as his eyes fell on the silent China man. "What's up, Wu?" He asked.
"This is an execution, Maxwell." Wufei said closing his eyes as he spoke. "The man in the box is going to be executed....by gravity if what I am told is true."
Duo's eyes widen just a little as he looked over to the man in question. Badunda looked back at him with acceptance of his face. The American nodded respectfully to him recieving the gesture in return.
Heero watched the interaction. He had heard about this method of execution. They only used it when the overdose of potassium that lethal injection offered was inaffective. Looking at the Indian Guru, monk, whatever he was, he appeared to be more than healthy enough to handle the amount given. He said silently in the seat to the right of Wufei whilie Duo took the one on his left. Moments later, Quatre and Chef joined them fully aware of what was going to happen.
Gypsy arrived next with Serpent accompanied by four guards. The one eyed man was seated at the far end of the front yard not bothering to make eye contact with anyone.
Heero looked to the only seat that remained empty. Where was Talim?
"Enjoying the view guys?"
Everyone in the front row twisted to see who had spoken. Maree grinned back at them dressed in a pair of baggy black cargo jeans and a fitting white shirt with the sleeves torn off. Her expression was light and carefree though her eyes said otherwise. She sat back looking towards the chamber wearily. She'd seen enough executions to know would happen. But why spoil the surprise.
"Darn, I was hoping I missed it." Amber grumbled and she squeezed pass a few prisoners to sit beside Maree. "The executioner isn't even here." She sat heavily throwing her hands behind her head and lacing them to brace her head.
"Nope, looks like they're gonna give the newbies a show." Maree replied twisting in his seat so that she could rest her head on the armrest of her chair.
"And what a show it will be." Kage said dramatically taking Talim's empty seat. She saw Heero begin to protest and watched him think better of it.
"Hey, Kage, Maree, Scarletty, guys." Libby greeted taking a spot on the other side of Maree. "Now....we're missing two, ne?"
"Make that one." Nita corrected taking a spot unfortunately located behind Gypsy. She glared at the back of the woman's head daring her to look back at her. She crossed her arms over her chest letting her gaze flicker to Badunda. She had known the man for a few months and was semi attached to him. Afterall, he had helped her with some of her anger. Not all but some. "See you sooner or later, old man." She whispered.
Badunda looked to her as if he could hear her words. He smiled for the first time in months at the group of girls. //Take care of each other.//
//We will.//
Talim showed up then smiling cautiously. He had a greeting on his lips but it fell flat when Heero stood quickly. Unconsciously, the redhead ducked his head remembering that his lips and nose were still swollen from last night.
"What happen?!" Heero demanded catching the boy's arm. He scanned his face over quickly. It was bruised but nothing was broken. He moved from his face to his arms then his throat then his stomach. There was some sniggering but he ignored it feeling his blood boil when he saw the purple-blue bruise just under the boy's ribcage. He growled. "Who did this?"
"Heero, calm down." Talim soothed batting the Japanese theif's hands away. "I'm fine." He insisted.
"Who. Did. This." Heero grabbed the teen by the shoulder and pulled him so they were face to face.
Talim sighed and looked away. He didn't really want to get Shai in trouble. That wouldn't be fair, would it?
"I'm afraid I did it." Speak of the devil. Heero and Talim looked to the newcomer sharply. Outside of the dark room, Shai was pale. The black pants and tank top he wore amplified his skin lack of color. Heero moved before he could think straight. He hiked the older man up by his collar. Shai look down at him calmly. If it came to the Japanese man beating his ass for hurting his friend, he wouldn't stop him.
"Heero, put him down!" Talim shouted pulling at the blue eyed thief's arm. Heero was unmoved. "Heero, I said, put him down!"
"Why are you protecting me?" Shai asked looking at the shorter boy with soulful eyes. Talim still for only a second glaring at him. Heero spoke for both of him hitting the man in the face.
"MATTE YO!!!" Talim shouted tackling Heero the best he could. He managed to stagger him. He glared down at the older teen. "I said leave him alone." He seethed. "It wasn't his fault."
Heero looked up at him then to Shai. "Why are you protecting him?"
"Because..." Talim said softly lowering his head. "Because....he's just like me, Heero." He raised his head smiling sadly down at the Japanese theif. His eyes glittered with tears they both knew he wouldn't let fall. He looked from his comrade back to the youth in question.
Shai looked back with wide eyes.
"Hey, you three!"
The moment was lost as one of the agents regulating other more unruly inmates stalked over assault rifle held in both hands. His wide blue eyes glared at the teens still not seated. "Take a seat or you're going in with him." He clipped jerking his head towards Badunda's figure.
"Now, now, Jacob, don't be so rude." Shadow walked up behind the hostile agent smiling warningly. He rest a hand on the shorter man's shoulder tighting his grip just a little. Jacod narrowed his eyes before turning sharply to go patrol the rest of the area. "Don't mind him, his father was an agent here." Shadow muttered. "He was killed by a couple of inmates a few years back." He shook his head still smiling softly. "You guys should get in your seat. You don't want to be any closer than you have to be when this goes down."
Talim, Heero, and Shai nodded wordlessly before shuffling to their seats. Talim silently curled up in Heero's lap while Shai took a seat beside Libby.
//Why am I here?// Shai asked himself. //I never leave my cell...// He looked towards Badunda. //Why am I out here....why was being alone so...unbearable now?//
The lights flickering broke off his train of thought. The 'show' was about to start.
