~Part 8~
"Relentless Pursuit?"

Wufei grimaced quietly as he and Sally left the business meeting of the preventers. Zechs and Noin had been ruthlessly brief in their desciprion of upcoming plans, and the other preventers had been pretty short tempered with her. Wufei had felt a small pang of guilt for not having told them about all these time-travleing visitors, but it didn't matter to much. That would mean explaining Toshiro's relationship to Hiro, and Wufei felt that as much as he sometimes hated Hiro, Hiro didn't deserve to have to make explanations about who his son was.
Sally looked at Wufei, who's eyes seemed distant and troubled.
"Wufei, are you okay?" Sally asked gently as the two walked down the rainy street together. Wufei looked at her breifly then shook off the comment.
"It's nothing." he muttered, as they proceeded down the sidewalk. Sally frowned. She knew Wufei well enough to tell when he was lying about being okay. Much as she hated to admit it, Sally often wished Wufei would open up a little bit more and just tell her what was wrong.
And there had been a lot wrong latley.
There seemed to be this dark shadow over her partner latley that worried Sally. She never knew what to say to Wufei to help him, or even how to tell what was wrong. But she knew he seemed haunted latley....ever since that woman Julie had showed up....
"Wufei?"
"Hm?" Wufei's eyes snapped onto Sally, who had just opened her umbrella and raised it to sheild them from the rain.
"Why does that woman Julie hate you so much? I know you said you abandonned her, but....."
Wufei didn't express the irritation he felt at the interogation. Damn, since when could Sally read him so well?
Sally went on. "Did you and Julie....have something between yourselves, some bond of trust that you broke?"
Wufei stopped walking abruptley and Sally swung around in front of him, forcing him to make eye contact with her. "Well?" Sally asked, her voice wavering with anger. She was upset, but the reason was unknown to Wufei.
"What are you implying?" Wufei asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible. Sally gave him an angry look.
"I'm asking if you two were lovers and if you left her!"
Wufei backed up. "Is that how low you think of me? You think I'd have a relationship of that nature with a woman who is so plainly insane?"
Sally trapped Wufei in her gaze, forcing him to feel her anger.
"You sure seemed to know her pretty well!"
Wufei dodged as Sally thoughtlessly swung her fist at him. "So you're jealous, is that it?" Wufei asked, catching Sally's next punch easily. Sally looked at him, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Oh....I don't know, I'm sorry Wufei, I guess....I guess maybe I am jealous....I don't know what made me react like that...."
Wufei sighed as Sally began to cry. "It's okay, don't worry about it....Julie and I never had anything serious between us, we were-"
Wufei had to swallow to force himself to say it. "We were just good friends."
Sally lifted her head, her blond twists of hair shimmering with wetness. She was smiling though, that was a relife. "I'm sorry I was so upset."
"It's okay, really."
Sally countinued to walk with Wufei, still holding the umbrella even though they were both wet allready.
"Wufei? How do you feel about Julie now?" Sally asked, taking Wufei's arm as they turned a corner. Wufei avoided her gaze.
"I...I don't care about her." Wufei stammered slightly, knowing this was a downright lie, but Sally bought it this time. Visibly at least. Perhaps it was because this was what she wanted to hear.
"Good." Sally said, her lips pursing into another smile. Wufei looked at her, realizing that this was only to be the first lie to her, that he would probably have to lie many times afterwards.
SHING!
The loud sound of metal being sliced snapped Wufei and Sally out of their trance as a long thin blade sliced gracefully though Sally's umbrella, cutting betweent them. Sally dropped the umbrella, and Wufei spun around quickly, knowing who he would find there.
"Much as I find this moment touching, I think it's time I made a *point* of my own." said the female voice acidly. Standing there, in the usual light blue dress, and soaked with rain stood none other than Julie Yu, who was glaring at Wufei vehemently. Julie's katans were there as well, glittering dangerously as she placed the one used to slice the umbrella back in it's sheath. Wufei ducked skillfully as Julie's leg shot into a visicous twist-kick at his chest.
"How dare you!?" Sally shouted, pulling out ehr gun. Julie smiled malevolently and withdrew one of her swords.
"Just try it." the assasin breathed, as Wufei stood up to full height again. Julie was daring Sally to shoot her, and Wufei could tell, Sally would do it.
Sally gripped her finger over the trigger threateningly. Julie lowered her sword, as though ready to meet the challenge head on.
"Give it a shot, blondie." Julie said smoothly, leaping behind Wufei and thrusting her arm around him into a headlock. "If you hit me you win....but if you hit your precious Wufei, you'll not kill him, but I'll kill you."
Wufei's hand attempted to break Julie's grasp on him, but to no avail. Julie trust her sword to his wrist, threatening to slice a key vein and kill him instantly.
"You bitch." Sally muttered coldly, as she lowered the gun. This was apparently what Julie had been waiting for, because she released Wufei, and round kicked him in the stomach, winding him completly. Before Sally could react, Julie had sliced the gun skillfully with her drawn blade, and destroyed the weapon easily. Sally had to jump backwards as Julie slashed out her second blade and cut a wide circular pattern in the air with her swords.
Wufei watched, stunned. Julie hadn't killed him, but if she could weild those blades that skillfully, there wasn't much chance of him lasting much longer....and Sally's chances were even worse.
Now, Julie faced Wufei, having both blades drawn. Shr smirked at him.
"You wanna fight?" she asked softly, challenging him. Wufei sighed, wishing he had his sword with him. Thankfully, Julie put her swords away, challenging him to a physical battle rather than one with those two katanas.
"Kowai no, Wufei?" Julie asked menacingly, her face breaking into a grin.
Wufei attacked, int he form of a chest-high cresent kick. Julie rolled backwards, blocking as Wufei countinued to advance on her.
"Owatta ka?" Julie sneared, revelaing that Wufei wasn't wounding her in the slightest. Wufei countinued to attack her, hoping she would make a mistake in her dodging.
"Kuso!" Wufei exclaimed as Julie jumped easily over him and onto the cemet wall that lingered behind him.
"Sayonanra Wufei.....till next time." Julie said softly, as she jumped into the trees nearby and faded form sight.
"Matte!" Wufei shouted, but to no avail. He sighed, walking over to Sally.
"You're not hurt are you?" Wufei asked, helping Sally up. Sally shook her head. "No....what did she want?"
Wufei shruged. "I don't know....that's the second time she could've killed me and didn't do it...."
Sally looked at him with fear blazing in her eyes. "Do you think she's sincere?"
Wufei sighed and shook his head. "I don't know."
