Part 13
Duo was bouncing with energy once morning came. He practically toppled Heero out of bed as he scrambled to the window. "Snow!!!!!" he cried as the flakes flurried past the glass pane.
Heero groaned as he sat up, rubbing the back of his head. He disentangled himself from the sheets on the floor and made his way to the bathroom. By the time he was out, sweet and enticing smells were wafting their way up from the kitchen. Heero followed his nose to find Duo pouring the batter onto the grittle and deftly flipping pancakes high in the air.
"Mmmmm," Heero moaned as he sat down at the small table. "Smells good, koi."
"I hope you like'em," Duo said, setting aside the grittle and bring two steaming stacks of the honey-brown patties to the table. He and Heero shared a sweet kiss before digging into their breakfast.
"Yeash!" Heero said around a mouthful.
"What? No good?" Duo asked.
"No, it's not that! We're acting like a married couple!" Heero chuckled.
"Oh," Duo blinked and blushed slightly.
Heero caught Duo's pointed chin in between two strong fingers. "What's the blush for?"
"I...." Duo shrugged.
Heero smiled at him. "There's nothing wrong with acting like a married couple.... demo, wouldn't it be sweeter if we actually were married?" Heero pulled a small box out of his pocket. "Duo Maxwell, will you be mine forever?" He opened the box and held it out to the wide-eyed boy.
Tears streamed out of Duo's eyes as he threw his arms around Heero's neck mumbling "Yes! Yes! Yes" over and over, while placing kisses everywhere he could reach.

"What a way to start the year, ne?" Duo said, looking up at the ball high on the beam.
"What better way than a fresh start?" Heero asked, holding Duo close to him in the blistering cold and snow. At midnight, as the ball descended in Time Square, they would marry. A new start, a new life. Duo was giddy with joy.
Just seconds before the count down, the priest began the vows. His final words timed with the final seconds that would cause the couple to kiss on the zero mark, joining in the new year.
A cheer went up as they kissed. They broke to look up at the Sony monitor to find their faces staring back at them. Duo blushed, but smiled broadly, glomping onto his new husband. Heero just smiled and held his koi tight.
-------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------
"So long, New York!" Duo said as they boarded the plane that would take them back to California. "What an experience!" Duo was grinning maniacally and dancing about with energy.
"We'll visit you!" Gwen called to them from the ground.
"Keep in touch. We'll be waiting for your calls!" Richard said.
The two boys waved and boarded the plane.

The gang, consisting of Q, Tro, Fei, Cat, Dory, Len, and Hilde, was waiting at the airport to greet them.
Len came running to them and tackled them to the ground. "I saw you guys on TV! What a kiss!" She grinned, then socked Duo in the shoulder. "Why didn't you tell us?"
Duo smirked, "Cause it was as much a surprise to me as it was to you!"
Len looked confused, then glared at Heero. She shook her head in mock exasperation. "You are incorrigible!"
Heero just shrugged. They were happy to be home. Duo practically glowed in the warm climate. "If you'll excuse us, guys. We've had a long flight and want to go home and relax...." With Duo attached to his arm, Heero broke away from their 'fanclub' and made way to their car. "Among other neglected activities." He muttered into Duo's ear.
"Right, koi. Let's go home! So Cal, ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
