Chapter Five
That night Heero went to bed a bit later than usual. It took him some time before he finished his essay, he was having a hard time concentrating on anything with thoughts of J and Duo running though his head the entire time. He found himself just sitting and staring at the sceen sometimes, not even typing anything. Worried about the trial and his future.
As Heero climbed under his covers, his hair still wet from the shower he had taken, he thought about Duo again. Heero wondered what Duo would say if he told him the whole story. If he told him all about J and those men and his parents and life up to this point, would Duo be disgusted? Heero doubted it. Duo had this skill at reading people and sympathizing with them, no matter how unfamiliar he was with their problems. Even though Duo didn't know why Heero climbed into his bed, he still allowed him to do so, even when he was half asleep.
Heero set his alarm to go off in two hours, just in case. He liked to set his alarm to wake him in the middle of the night, he was rather afraid that he would get nightmares and not be able to wake up. By setting his alarm it ensured that Heero would wake up if he was having a nightmare or not. He had been doing this for years. Heero was pretty sure he hadn't slept an entire night though for about 5 years now. It probably wasn't good for him, but when he thought about sleeping though the entire night it panicked him and he wouldn't fall asleep until he set the alarm. His safety net.
What would Duo think of that if he knew? Would he worry over Heero, or would he think it was weird?
Heero was musing over Duo even further as he felt sleep over take him, he felt himself fall into that stage between sleep and wakefulness when you knew you were dreaming, but didn't care enough to wake yourself up. Heero saw Duo in his dream. He saw him standing near a riverbed at night, with fireflies dancing all around him. He was standing there staring into the river where the moon's reflection glowed white in the obsidian water.
"Duo?" Heero called softly, as if afraid he would break the spell of this moment with his voice. Duo turned from the water and looked at Heero, his purple eyes seemed happy to see him, and he smiled. Heero gave a small smile back and stepped closer as a gentle breeze blew and buffeted a thin t-shirt around Duo's slim torso.
Duo closed his eyes as if savoring the feel of the wind on his skin, like the caress of a lover. Heero was mesmerized as he neared the still figure of his friend. He was so beautiful. So beautiful.
When Heero was only about a foot away from him Duo opened his eyes and looked at Heero with that same happy expression. He opened his arms as if beckoning Heero into them. And he went. He went into the warm embrace of those arms and felt so happy, so content, so at peace. This was home.
Heero stood there for a long time wrapped inside those strong arms. He finally looked back up at Duo, who he noticed was staring down at him the entire time. He looked up into those happy eyes and was stunned by their beauty. He stood there staring at those beautiful eyes until…
Until those eyes closed and the gorgeous face moved closer. Those lovely lips moving, getting closer to his own. So close, so close. And then he felt it. A soft brush of Duo's lips against his own. So soft, so gentle, so wonderful. And he closed his eyes, savoring the sensation, reveling in the feeling of Duo's lips pressed nicely against his own.
Those arms around his began to move, to caress his back and shoulders, fingers ran lightly down his skin, burning paths on Heero's back through his shirt. He was sure he would never forget the feeling of those fingers as long as he lived.
Those gentle fingers moved down to the small of his back and pushed the shirt up, so there was no barrier between them. A gasp escaped Heero throat as Duo's skin met his in a caress, and he buried his face in Duo's neck.
Thos fingers continued their journey over the skin on Heero's back mapping out every plane, every scar, every bump of every vertabre. And Heero loved it. He loved being touched. He loved being caressed. He loved every minute of it.
But then it stopped. Disappointed, Heero lifted his head to ask Duo why, but then he saw Duo's eyes again. This time it was not happiness he saw in those violet depths. It was love, and passion, and affection. And it was all for Heero.
A thrill went though his body as Duo kissed him again, this time a bit more firmly, his lips pressed hard against Heero's mouth. He gasped as Duo resumed his exploration of his back, but this time moving to his ribs and sides as well. His caresses getting a bit faster, a bit more frantic, and his kisses mirrored his hands, quicker shorter, but just as intense. Heero didn't mind. He loved it.
Heero moved his hands to Duo's back and ran them tentatively up his shirt, finally able to touch the shoulders that had secretly captivated him for so long. His skin was so soft, and unmarred by scars like Heero's was. It felt heavenly.
It was starting to feel different though, something wasn't right. Duo's hands felt bigger, stronger, not as gentle. They were rough now tearing at his clothes, pulling at them. Ripping them. Tearing them away from Heero's body.
Heero lifted his head to tell Duo to stop it. But it wasn't Duo. It was another man. A bigger man. One of the mean men that came to J's house. One of the men who hurt him. One of the men he was scared of.
Heero tried to pull away but the man had him. He was strong. Heero knew if he wanted to get away he would have to hurt the man. He also knew that he would. Heero moved to punch the man in the throat, but his arms wouldn't move. He tried to knee the man, but he legs wouldn't move either. He bucked his body trying to throw the man off, but his body wouldn't move either. He couldn't move at all. His body was paralyzed.
Now Heero began to panic. He tried to pull away to move his body, but it just wouldn't work and those hands were hurting him again. Tearing at his clothes. Pushing him to the ground.
Heero tried to scream but nothing came out. He was so scared. Panicking. There was nothing he could do. This time he couldn't defend himself. The man was pulling off his pants, yanking them down his body.
And then he heard it. Music.
Heero jolted awake at the sound of his alarm clock. It was softly playing music. It had saved him.
This time Heero didn't go to the other rooms. This time he didn't bother to sneak. This time he ran. He opened Duo's door and closed it behind himself, mindless of the noise it made. He rushed over to Duo tripping on various items before he reached the bed.
Duo was sitting up, wide awake. As if he was waiting for him.
"'Ro? You ok, man?" He asked, his voice clear and slightly worried.
Heero launched himself at Duo and wrapped his arms around the taller boy. He held Duo as tight as he could, wishing he could fit inside the man, wanting to be surrounded by his warmth, by his strength, by his comforting smell. Wanting to be safe.
Duo hugged Heero back and whispered soothing things to him in a soft voice. Telling him he was safe now and that everything would be ok. Heero just held on.
Heero heard the door open and someone walk in. Then he heard Mrs. Maxwell ask what was wrong. Duo said that Heero had a bad dream and came in to tell him about it. Mrs. Maxwell sounded worried as she asked if Heero was going to be ok. Duo reassured her that they would both be fine and told her that Heero was going to sleep in his room for the night. Heero was grateful. He didn't think he could face Mrs. Maxwell right now. He didn't think he could face anyone, anyone but Duo.
Duo pulled Heero into his lap and Heero buried his face into Duo's neck, just as he had in his dream. Only this time he was filled with fear, not passion. He clung to Duo hoping to regain some composure, some control over himself. But he didn't. He just clung to Duo like he was the only thing left in the world.
They stayed like that for some time until Duo coaxed Heero under the blankets. Heero quickly covered himself and Duo. Duo put his arms around Heero again and Heero snuggled into him. Breathing in his scent. Duo's scent. He smelled so good. Heero could still smell the soap of his shower on Duo's skin mixed in with the smell of Duo's house, and his own scent. A faintly musky smell that made Heero feel safe, protected. Heero liked that smell.
Finally Heero relaxed and drifted off to sleep in Duo's arms, hoping that there would be no more nightmares.
