The Magic Touch
Chapter 5
~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been about two weeks since we arrive to the house that Quatre had, so sweetly, let us all stay in. Days were long and exciting. Duo played his usual pranks that he would often welcome me to join him.
Quatre would go about business, but spend time with us when he can. We all sat and spoke amongst one another in the living area, although Heero and Trowa would barley participate.
Krisi would spend most of her time in the kitchen solarium looking out the window or reading a book. At times I would sneak a peak and catch Wu-fei joining her while stealing a kiss or two.
As for Nikki, she and Heero seem to get along really well. At times they would be in such deep conversations; I'd always wondered how she could get him to do that. They would sit together, at times, in the living area; Nikki would rest her head on his chest as he would keep one hand on her slightly bulging stomach, while another held her own.
Trowa was gone visiting his sister back at the circus, so the house seemed a little more talkative without him.
Over all, it's been all but boring.
~~~~~~~~~~~
It was still a little early in the morning, but I was up as always. Nikki joined me with Krisi in the living area and we sat silently, mostly still a little sleepy, until I felt some thing amiss in my room. Tempted, I made my way up the stairs and peaked inside and I noticed that my dragon necklace was out from its usual place. From the corner of my eye, I spotted a shadow creeping quickly past by my dresser and out the door from the center of the room; I could make out that ponytail from anywhere.
It didn't upset much me to find Wu-fei sneaking around my room and stealing my necklace, because he had been following this same routine every morning since he found that I possessed it. Every morning I would chase the Chinese boy, hoping to catch him. I think that it is some sort of test of skill, but I wouldn't know until I caught him, which has not been successful so far.
"Come back here `Fei!" I yelled, sounding almost like a broken disk since it has been repeated so often.
I chased after him down the hallway and down the stairs. At one point my fingers grazed his shirt, but the boy was too quick. He ran ahead of me, pushing a clueless Rashid in my way. As I barley dodged past him, I managed a bow and a breathless `good morning', before running off again.
I spotted Wu-fei and caught up to him once again. The only way to stop him was to trip him and I had it all planed out. At just the right moment, I jumped, tripping Wu-fei and claiming my necklace with a victorious smirk on my face.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Seconds later, I walked into the living area and spotted Heero, who had just woken, sitting beside Nikki with her head on his chest as usual. She giggled slightly as Heero supposedly told a small joke. They seemed to be enjoying there atmosphere, so I took a seat beside Quatre, who was sipping some tea and reading the newspaper. He looked up and smiled at me, but then soon frowned.
I raised an eyebrow in confusion, but looked away to the silent couple who seemed to be staring at me as well.
"What?" I inquired suddenly, wiping off the squeamish smile I had on my face.
"What was that noise?" Nikki asked, raising her head from Heero's chest.
My smile returned; almost make Quatre shiver since it seemed to haunt him from the pranks Duo would set on him.
"Give it another five seconds and you'll find out." I winked.
"ONNA!!!" Wu-fei yelled as he sprang into the room.
"Yep, right on time." I said finally putting on my necklace.
"What happened?" Nikki asked, sounding more demanding then just asking.
I explained to them Wu-fei's doings. Stealing my necklace and having me chase him around the house every morning before he would eventually give it back with a snort.
"But this time I caught him." I explained. "You don't know how many natural obstacles are in this house." I said thoughtfully.
Wu-fei snorted behind me and proceeded into the kitchen.
"Well, that was rude." I remarked. I turned to Heero, "Hee-chan, can I borrow your laptop for a few minutes?"
"If you can hack into it, it's on the kitchen table."
I dashed out of the room before he could continue to say what my restrictions were.
~~~~~~In the kitchen~~~~~~
Wu-fei and Krisi decided to take a walk. This, thankfully, left me alone with the computer.
Once I logged on, I noticed that I had to go through three different passwords, plus the ones to enter my personal file. It was the most work that I had to put effort into, but I managed to break in.
Once I reached the message board of my file, I saw that I had just received new entries. Most were ads or gibberish, but one specifically caught my attention I opened the file and it read:
MISSION: The Capital Five Warehouses contains information that is against the Romafeller foundation. It is believed that information here instructed various choices that had lead to the destruction of the L2 cluster.
OBJECTIVE: Retrieve this information and destroy the warehouses. Report back when possible.
I read the message over again to photograph it in my mind. Then I logged off and erased any signs of my working on the program and put all passwords and programs back into place after accepting the mission.
I sat back on my chair and pouted at the now blank screen. `I don't feel like doing this one alone,' I got up from my seat. `I'll get Nikki to join me.' I thought as I walked back into the living area, seeing Duo finally awake and slumped on the couch while eating some biscuits on Quatre's tray.
~~~~~~Living area: Nikki P.O.V~~~~~~
It had been two months since I had met Heero. The day after we arrived to this mansion, we went to the doctor and it was official.
Once Heero found out, his face was void of any emotion, but the embrace he gave me was all I ever needed. Ever since then Heero has been more protective towards me.
Not that I minded though, not at all.
Samantha had left the living area for Heero's laptop. I knew exactly why, but Heero made a worried look when an occasional curse came from her direction.
"Don't worry." I looked up at him. "She won't break it." I assured him.
About half an hour later, Sam came back into the room. She seemed determined, but I was in the same train of thought as she was.
"What took you so long?" Heero asked, face straight, eyes smiling.
Sam crossed her arms in front of her chest and smiled that skeemish smile that even Duo himself couldn't muster.
"Pretty nifty codes ya got there, Hee-chan. But there's nothing I can't hack into."
Shock shadowed his face. Utter disbelief written in his eyes. I patted his hand and sat up straight and looked at Sam, our facial expressions mirroring one another. Complete seriousness.
{"Don't talk too much. They'll get suspicious"}
{"Chill, Nikki. Lips are sealed. We need to talk though"}
{"I thought so."}
Samantha nodded her acknowledgement and she proceeded to walk into the far hall. I stood up and began to follow her until I felt a grip on my hand. I looked down at Heero.
"Samantha and I are going to the mall. All of our clothes were burnt in the fire and these shorts are getting a little tight." I smirked.
"Hn. Don't push yourself too hard. You know how hot you get." He muttered so neither Duo nor Quatre could hear.
"I won't." I leaned down kissed him lightly on his lips before heading in the same direction Samantha had.
I met her in the hall and I grabbed a coat. Sam stared at me confusedly but mirrored my actions, putting on a coat as well and following me out the door.
"Tell me on the way there."
We took a car and drove our way to our rondevue point, where more information will be given to us.
~~~~~~Sam P.O.V - Mission~~~~~~
We arrived at our rondevue point where a soldier waited for us and told the information and reminded us of a meeting with our commander.
From what I could tell, this new soldier was a bit nervous around us. He shook as he stood and his brow was wet. He handed us the warehouse lay-out and a floppy disk, then ran back to a van and quickly drove off, followed by another black car.
"Right, you go and retrieve the information and I'll set the explosives." I instructed Nikki, handing her the disk. She nodded and we drove to our location, parking the car not too far away.
We separated once we reached that point and three soldiers had to have been knocked out so I could reach the cargo hold to start planting the explosives.
As the final bomb was placed and timed. I left the last cargo bay the same way I entered it. I closed my eyes and focused my mind on Nikki's.
{"Nikki, you done yet?"}
{"One more file to go"}
{"We got 20 minutes. I'll meet you outside"}
~~~~~~300 meters from the warehouses~~~~~~
`Five minutes left, damn what kind of a connection do these people have?'
I was outside the base anxiously waiting for Nikki to regroup. I stared helplessly at the warehouses. I tried to link to her several times but she either ignored it or was unable to respond.
I began to panic at this point.
`What if she fainted from her condition? A soldier could've caught her and hurt her, therefore her being unable to respond.' I began to pace, my face was still and quite, but inside I screamed with fear and anger. I clenched my fist causing some equipment to rise and whipped it away, leaving to drag down the never ending path of sand.
My eyes widened at the speed the object went at and jumped from surprise as Nikki suddenly appeared behind me.
"What took you so long?! I thought you were a goner in there!" I scowled.
"Let's get going…" she stated. I glared and pouted at the fact that she ignored me; although it was a common thing.
I began to walk over to the car and opened the door to the passenger's side, then held my movements and looked back at the `fire starter'.
"Someone was watching us." was her breathless remark.
~~~~~~~~~~
That night Nikki and I finally returned with bags filled with clothing.
I sighted from relief as we walked into the living room, dropped our bags and slump onto the comfortable couches. Nikki had been scowling and fronting about her distaste for shopping, I didn't blame her because I'm not a fan as well, but it was our cover and her idea.
Although at the back of my mind I wanted to kick myself for being careless. The one spying on us could've been a member from OZ. Seeing us working against them will turn out to be a big problem.
"About time you got back." Duo greeted as he entered the living area. Munching on an apple, he sat down. "Heero was getting impatient, he demanded I go up and check on you two."
My eyes widened. Could it have been Duo who was spying on us? As a former street kid, he would have the skill to stealth has way through the desert like a hide away, but it seemed like the spy wanted to be seen.
"But I didn't spot you anywhere…"
"That's because you were hitting on the girls Maxwell." Heero's voice interrupted as he began to walk in. Duo stuck his tongue out at him
"I only got one number, ok."
I smacked him across the head, causing his apple to fall from his hands. It was a sister's duty and I felt tempted to do so.
Heero mover and sat by Nikki as she pulled out a new green tank top. He glared as she smiled helplessly.
~~~~~~In Krisi's room~~~~~~
"He's stiff; he wouldn't even let me hang around while he checks his mail." Nikki remarked as she entered. "Sam, go down there."
I raised my head in shock.
"What? Me? Why me?" I exclaimed.
"Because he expects less from you." Krisi stated.
I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Alright, fine!" I accepted after hesitating. "But if he gets suspicious and kills me, my spirit is coming after the both of you, ok?"
~~~~~~~~~~~
I walked out of the room and strolled down the stairs and turned into the kitchen. Heero was where I thought he would be. Sitting on a stool where the island counter stood, typing away at the computer lap top.
I casually made my way to the stove and lifted the pot of coffee.
"Want some coffee Heero?" I asked as I glanced at the empty cup beside him. He didn't answer, but I poured a cup none-the-less while looking at the computer screen for the briefest second. He was checking a report that was sent to him. There were only a few words I needed before I knew what it was about. I smirked triumphantly as I pulled away.
I poured myself a cup before turned away walking out of the kitchen and heading back up the stairs, saluting to Duo on my way up.
Duo leaned against the door frame of the kitchen as he entered.
"She was spying on you, ya know?"
Heero remained silent as he closed his lap top and took a sip of the coffee before simply saying.
"We have an appointment with Lady Une."
Ok there is the chapter; I hope to get the next one up soon. After there should be a couple of flashback chapters. Please R&R
