Notes: Poor Heero, he's so disappointed.

Begin part nine.

"Sorry. I know you wanted to do it... I guess that's why I let her go." Quatre wiped his forehead. "I need a nap."

"She told me to kill you." Heero still was stunned over that.

"Erm, Fei, let's go see what all the shooting was, they might need us." Duo groped around, pulling on the first pair of pants he grabbed, and they just happened to be Wufei's.

"Those are mine." Wufei's reply of course, had nothing to do with the shooting.

"Well, I don't want to look for mine just now, to make it even, if I find mine, you can put em on, it'll still get your point across." Duo pushed open the closet door, looking at the glass that was scattered over the carpet. Wufei simply shrugged not really caring whose pants he was wearing.

Duo merely shook his head over Wufei's oddity, and reached a hand out, resting it on his arm. "Either way we should get out there and see what is going on, we've waited in here too long. Then we have to pack." Wufei nodded and grabbed a pair of pants that were on the closet floor and just pulled them on. He noticed they were way to long but he didn't care at the moment.

Duo looked over to Wufei, a small grin crossing his face as he caught sight of Wufei's expression. "I'm only a few centimeters taller Fei babe."

"Babe?" Wufei raised his eyebrows at the comment and just buttoned the pants and stepped out of the closet.

"You only just noticed that?" Duo had to laugh, moving closer and pushing Wufei along a little, steering him around the glass on the floor. "Time to go look and see if anyone is dead man."

Wufei looked down at the pair of Duo's pants he was wearing, his steps slower than normal. Duo's pants sure were tight around his hips. He sighed before gathering his things and readying an e-mail to Laoshi O.

"You'd think you were looking at Heero's spandex with that expression. How do you walk in this thing? It's almost like I'm wearing a dress!" Duo finally reached the door as he moved just ahead of Wufei, his head peeking around the doorway, but only receiving a greeting of silence.

"Dress?!" Wufei was indignant, his expression turning into a hard glare, and he wanted to snap at Duo for doubting his manliness, but now wasn't the time. Instead he settled for pointing to the broken glass on the floor and announcing. "I'm not cleaning that mess up."

"Neither am I, I don't think we need to... I'm seeing blood from here." Duo moved out of the room quickly, going to the room the blood was leading into and looking inside to see Quatre and Heero, but no Relena. "Guys?"

Trowa opened the back door and looked around, ready to duck out of sight if he saw long blond hair or pink. He was still shirtless and barefoot, with his hands clutching the mission papers protectively. It looked the danger had passed... for now. Trowa sighed, a great breath of relief as he heard Duo's voice, and he wondered if everyone was all right. He'd heard the gunshots from outside. He took cautious steps into the house, the idea of an armed Relena making him nervous.

Heero lifted his attention from the shell shocked Quatre as he heard Duo, his eyes still more than naturally wide as he searched around for the source of the voice. Quatre immediately raised his gun, not quite sure that the menace was gone, only to see Duo's face staring back at him.

Duo raised an eyebrow at Quatre, seeing that particular unexpected reaction. He then turned his head to look at Trowa, confident he wouldn't be shot, and knowing the other two couldn't see the green eyed pilot. "Hey guys, what'd we miss?"

"Deadly ambush" Quatre replied and slowly got to his feet. He too, was shirtless, only Heero being fortunate enough to be fully dressed when Relena came barging in. Quatre put the gun in his waistband, retreating back to his own room to pack with an uncharacteristic slight scowl on his face the whole time.

Heero shook his head a little, bringing himself forth from his daze as he saw Duo's questioning look swing back to him. "Quatre shot at Relena, she attack hugged me, and I missed my shot, the Quatre actually shot her. Then she..." He gets stuck there, on this one part that is so utterly against what he thought of Relena. "She told me to shoot him!"

Duo blinked, looking back from Heero to Wufei "Wu bear, could you pack what little we have out? I think I need to talk to these guys for more details." Wufei immediately nodded, returning to the room to begin packing up their clothes, heedlessly mixing their clothes between the two bags.

"Make sure to leave out a couple shirts, we aren't going bare-chested!" Having added that, Duo waves an arm to Trowa, gesturing for him to come in the room with him, and pointing at the floor where the blood was as he stepped around it. He finally turned his attention back to Heero. "So this is Relena's blood?"

"Yes. She isn't dead though. He said I could kill her then told her to leave after shooting her." Heero nearly seemed to pout, but that was impossible! This was Heero. A shell shocked Heero.

Wufei nodded again, even though Duo couldn't see from where he was, commencing on doing exactly the opposite as Duo asked, putting all the shirts into the bags. He collected their toiletries and then a realization hit him. *Duo! He's not here.* Wufei quickly ran back into the hall, whimpering softly as a lurking fear suddenly revealed itself to him by way of misty, incomplete memories. *Duo! I have to find him.*

Duo hadn't gone much past the bloody doorway, his expression completely incredulous. "You mean that Quatre shot her?" He was still stuck over that part, and he was easily found, and so long as Wufei didn't think the blood on the ground was his, then there unlikely to be a problem.

Wufei ran straight to Duo, catching him in a flying tackle that knocked them both the ground. "Are you alright?" Wufei's voice was loud and panicked, his hands clinging tightly to the startled pilot under him. He needed Duo's presence to sooth the half-formed fears before they could reveal themselves; he couldn't risk Duo being hurt. The feelings roiling inside Wufei over that brief separation were sharp enough they left him shaking.

Duo was clearly confused by Wufei's sudden appearance and blinked up at him. "I'm not hurt. Wufei, I'm here, all that mess is Relena's. Q-man shot her! Can you believe that?" Duo wrapped his arms around Wufei, holding him for a second before pushing at him. He wanted back up. Wufei refused to release Duo though, unable to come away from the adrenaline high. "Fei? Fei I'm fine. Can I get up now? Please?" He tilted his head down, blinking at the black haired head pressed to his chest.

"No. I don't want you to go." Wufei's voice was muffled as his face was buried in Duo's chest. He was near crying with relief, but couldn't quite understand why. He only knew that he had to make sure Duo was all right and didn't leave his again, things happened to Duo when he wasn't with him.

"Fei, I'm not going anywhere, really, but you gotta let me up man. You're making me lay in the crazy chick's blood." Duo pushed more firmly at Wufei.

Wufei pulled away at last, searching Duo's face for signs he couldn't fathom before he put his hand on the floor, immediately jerking it back as he met with a wet substance. "Blood? What happened here?"

"Man, I told you. Quatre shot Relena. Look at Heero, he's like, spazzing out because he didn't get to kill her." Duo lifted an arm, pointing over where Heero was standing.

"If you would all quit stopping me, we wouldn't have to move around so often. Quatre shot her then told her to go... It just is not fair." Heero shook his head, moving from the room and down the hallway to pack.

Quatre came out of his room a moment later, a duffel bag slung over his shoulder, an unbuttoned shirt tossed over his shoulders. He glared at the three of them still in the hallway. "Quit standing around. You know retaliation could be here in a few moments! Let's go!" Quatre stomped back out of the hallway to the back door, his feet taking him to the barn out back where their gundams were hidden.

Duo looked after Quatre and scowled, his gaze then turning to Wufei with a slight smile. "Off Wu-man, off. We need to finish up the packing and get moving now that we know what the hell is going on."

"I already packed everything. Let's just go." Wufei stood up and extended his hand to Duo, hoping that he would take it and the apology extended with it.

Heero returned to the main room quickly enough, gathering up his laptop, and glancing out after Quatre as he packed the high tech gadget in the top of his duffel, his trademark outfit fully in place. Trowa too, had his things packed and ready in a few short seconds and met Heero in the living room. Trowa was still shirtless, not bothering to dress fully, knowing he was hopefully only going to have to pilot his gundam to the next location.

Duo nodded, looking at them both. "We finish getting dressed and switch back to our normal pants, then we go." He didn't wait for an answer, pulling Wufei back to their room and shucking the pants. His nimble fingers grabbed up his normal attire swiftly, then he folded the now bloody pants over, tucking the blood on the inside and shoving them into his bag before pulling on his outfit and shoes, all within a scant few seconds. Then he cursed, hunting through his things for a hairtie and sticking his loose hair into a ponytail.

Wufei gave Duo an exasperated look, but saw the practicality of it, being in unfamiliar and ill fitting pants could hinder them if it came to a battle. He was only dressed in his pants and shirt when Duo again got his attention.

Duo dressed more quickly than he would appear to, grabbing up his pants and tucking them into his bag before zipping it. "Don't forget some shoes Fei." He grinned, snatching his gun out from under the pillow and tucking it into his clothes as he tossed the bag over his shoulder, his button down shirts open as he was already headed to the door.

Wufei rolled his eyes but nodded, yanking on his shoes before following Duo to the door, his fingers strapping on his sword as he was walking, the other having a firm grip on his bag.

Back in the living room, Trowa made a big show of stretching out languidly and handed the mission papers back to Heero. "Here. You need these."

Heero took the papers and tucked them in on top of his laptop, then zipped the bag closed. "I still have to get one of you to agree to go with me, I cannot be in two places at once." As soon as the papers were settled, he swung the bag over his shoulder, waiting for the other two so he could give out the coordinates for the next safe house.

"Don't worry about it Heero. I'll go with you." Trowa sat down on the back porch steps and leaned back again, enjoying the sun on his bare chest.

Duo moved back into the main room, gaze falling on Heero immediately, his bag tossed over his shoulder, and his clothes and hair askew. He looked rushed. Trowa stood up hearing the last two step out on to the porch. Trowa blinked in shock over seeing Duo's hair not in a braid but cast the interesting vision aside in the haste to get moving. The surrounding land was too quiet for him and Trowa was starting to feel nervous.

"Alright. Let's get a move on." Quatre turned and headed for the barn quickly, the feeling that something was looming hurrying his steps.

Duo huffed slightly to himself then shrugged, moving after Quatre, his steps faltering briefly as he realized he could hear a little better, that was something he hadn't noticed before... But then he shrugged it off as not important to the moment. Wufei followed next to Duo, casting the long haired boy a puzzled glance as he faltered, but even though he was protective and needy at the moment he didn't quite feel the urge to hold Duo's hand...yet.

Heero inclined his head, marching off to Wing before the others could really get moving. He barely waited for Quatre to say anything before he started walking, incredibly eager to get away from this most recent place that Relena found them in.

"Oh man, I just realized that it's almost lunchtime and I'll have to deal with what I have in my gundam for the next few hours. This so sucks! I can't wait to get to the new safe house so I can go shopping." Duo glanced towards Wufei while he was talking, feeling odd about the idea of being separated from him for hours, but he would be in his gundam, so he knew he would be perfectly fine.

"Would you like some of mine?" Wufei's offer was quiet and he looked at the ground when they reached the barn doors.

Trowa helped Quatre pry the barn doors open and very nearly ran inside to Heavyarms, his paranoia getting it's grips deeper in the green eyed boy. He lowered the cable and hoisted himself in, flicking the mobile suit to life before launching it upward right through the roof of the barn, then taking off over the field.

"No, you will need them. Get to your Nataku man, and I'll get to my Scythe. We gotta go, if they really shot Relena, she'll come back with reinforcements and we need to be out of here." Duo moved away from Wufei, heading eagerly towards his Gundam, feeling a great wash of relief to see his mechanical partner standing there.

"Show off." Quatre muttered as he looked at the hole Trowa left, and closed the hatch of Sandrock to avoid the debris. He started Sandrock up and took off after Trowa, sending him a message that he had to wait for him.

Heero, having waited for the first pair to leave, already had his gundam ready and was the next to go, heading in a slightly different direction to throw the other two, then tapped out the coordinates out to Quatre. The transmission was received, then Quatre sent their flight plan to the safe house to Heero, telling him to arrive several hours after he and Trowa did. The location was still an eight-hour flight in the direct line they were taking, but he figured it was best to get everyone's paths clear.

Wufei suddenly froze, and then turned to hug Duo. "I love you." The words were a whisper into Duo's neck. He remained holding onto Duo despite the falling debris, which thankfully avoided their bodies.

Duo froze at the base of his gundam, turning wide eyes on Wufei before turning and hugging him back, quickly. "I think I might too. Now go, we need to get moving, pronto." His voice was soft, and he gently, but firmly pushed Wufei away before scurrying up and into his Gundam and closing the hatch, waiting for Wufei to get to his own. He didn't want to declare what Wufei had unless he was certain it was true.

Wufei blinked and looked at Duo, studying him for a few moments before taking off from his own Gundam. He noticing that the other three were gone having taken the route of the hole in the roof. Wufei started up his Gundam and tried to calm his beating heart. He gave into his mental urgings and turned on his screen to connect up to Duo's; hoping to soon see that yes, Duo was just fine.

Heero replied back to Quatre and Trowa, letting them know he should arrive about 12 hours from the current time due to his own deviance in direction. He signed off that line then switched to the one for Duo, noting that it was on and keyed in both Quatre, and his own timeframes and told the last two where to go, telling them to arrive after him before closing out the link.

Duo accepted Heero's transmission, absently noting that he closed off the link, then forwarded the coordinates to Wufei while turning on his com, his nimble fingers setting in the course and taking off before relaying the information for the fourteen hour flight. Taking his gundam up into the clouds before he bothered to look for his brush to deal with the mess of his hair, Duo allowed a smile to cross his face.

To be continued.
