Slowly lowering his lips, the vampire eagerly anticipated the taste of the boy beneath him. "One more inch, Marquise, and I'll cut your head off." A low voice whispered harshly into Zech's ear, as a knife was roughly held against his throat.

`Shit,' the man cursed inwardly before quickly collecting himself, and smirking, "I was simply saying hello, Maxwell."

Duo sneered, "Is that so? Well now it's time to say good bye." With that the braided vampire swiftly tossed the count through the door, the wood shattering.

Quickly picking himself up and dusting off, Zechs angrily warned, "You will regret that. That boy belongs to us!" Having said this he vanished, leaving the two alone.

Heero, having fallen to the ground, looked up to see an offered hand. He quickly scooted backwards, stake in hand. "Don't come any closer!" he said in a falsely calm voice. Shakily, he pointed the stake at the tall vampire, trying desperately to keep calm. `He knows I'm scared...I couldn't even sense him either! What's happening to me?'

"So this is how mortals thank their saviors? Or should I say half-mortals?" the one Heero knew as Maxwell mocked, a closed smirk in place as he towered over the younger.

Heero's eyes widened, "H-How'd you know?" he stuttered disbelievingly.

Duo chuckled, "I know everything about you, Heero," He opened his smirk showing his teeth unabashedly, "You're very popular, you know? Everyone's talking about you." He slowly advanced towards the youth on the ground.

"Oh really?," Heero said as he scooted farther back towards the wall, "and just what exactly are they saying?"
Duo slid across the floor, "You're a threat to our kin, blah blah blah, your power is only matched by it's possessor, yadda yadda yadda...the usual," The vampire continued to grin.

Heero's back suddenly bumped the wall and he gasped. "What's the matter, love?" Duo grinned, still coming closer.

`Shit...what do I do? He knows!'Heero slid himself off the ground, to see a heart-shaped face with large iris eyes a few feet away.

Suddenly, those eyes were right in front of him, and he gasped. "You know, I've been dying to meet you." the husky voice whispered. Duo raised his hand to caress Heero's cheek. The blue-eyed boy slowly shut his eyes, but quickly flashed them open and backed away.

"Who are you? What do you want with me?" Heero asked forcefully, raising the stake up defensively.

The beautiful vampire grinned, "I am Duo Maxwell." he paused, "and I want you, to come with me. I will protect you", he said seriously.

"Please," Heero sneered. "All you want is to be rid of the `problem' I pose and some ass. Well sorry I'm taken by another." With that He shoved past Duo and opened the door, only to run smack into him as he ran out, and fall backwards. With supernatural reflexes, the vampire caught Heero and pulled him to his chest.

"And just who has taken you?" Duo said softly with a hint of jealousy, clutching the smaller boy to him.

"You wouldn't know him." Heero snapped trying to cover up his lie and pull away from the others tight hold as well.

“And why wouldn't I know this infamous vampire?" Duo's curiosity was piqued, he knew the other was lying and he wondered how he would respond.

"Why? B-because… he's an ancient." Heero stuttered, cursing at his lie.

"Really?" Duo said, "That's funny because there are only three ancients left, and I happen to be one of them." He could feel the brunette tense up in hold and smirked to himself.

`That's what I get for lying…' Heero's thoughts were interrupted as the other spoke. "You're not good at lying," Duo said, stroking the dark hair gently," And besides, I don't like liars."

"Hn," Heero answered, shaking his head slightly to escape the other's hands. He was still nervous and couldn't understand what the vampire was doing.

"Well I suppose it's time to go," Duo quickly changed subject, "Come on let's go find Quatre and Trowa." He grudgingly released Heero and grabbed his hand in a firm hold, dragging him swiftly down the hallway.

"I'm not going anywhere with you." Heero said, gritting his teeth and pulling his hand harshly from the other's hold.

Violet eyes narrowed at the youth's stubborn attitude, “You're coming with me.” He ordered, his voice low as he grabbed the other's wrist in a crushing grip and jerked him forward.

Having no choice, the singer winced, but walked on trying to think of a way to reach his band members or manager.

Just than two blonde vampires appeared. "Hey, Who's the babe?" The taller of the two queried. She was medium height with dark blonde hair past her shoulders and pale skin, her full figure was squeezed into a revealing outfit and it barely moved as she wove her arm around the other girl's waist.

"Sorry, Relena. He's mine!" Duo retorted possessively, pulling the other closer to him even as the singer wrinkled his upper lip in disagreement.

"Touchy tonight. Ne, Maxwell?" The other blonde added. She was taller then her `girlfriend' and with snow-white skin and pale blonde hair. Her ice blue eyes roamed along Heero's body, making him uncomfortable.

"No, I'm just protecting what's mine, Dorothy. You of all people should understand that." Duo answered, nodding at the girl linked to her.

"Are you going home?" Relena asked.

"Yes, We'll see you there," Duo threw behind him as he and Heero turned a corner. Looking back, the brunette was both curious and annoyed at how the two vampires had gotten backstage so easily. His eyes widened however when he saw that they were no longer in the hall at all.

"Duo!" A voice yelled, causing the two to stop. Duo and Heero whipped their heads in the direction of the call, but they only found empty space.

“There he is." Duo said, looking into seemingly nothing.

"Where? I don't see anyone." Heero replied, his blue eyes scrutinizing every inch of the hall. He couldn't see anyone at all.

"You wouldn't would you?" a new voice answered, causing the other eyes to turn straight into hunter green.

"We're ready. This is him, and Heero this is Trowa, ancient number two" Duo quickly introduced the two.

"Quatre's waiting," Trowa informed, "He said he would tidy up the house." He stopped and looked over the small boy beside his friend.

Duo rolled his eyes, "Figures." Heero's eyes scanned the ancient. He was tall and lean with a slight tan. Once he made it to the others face he held back a gasp at bright green eyes, which bore into his own.

Heero turned away, however when he heard the voice beside him, "Ready?" the taller man asked, receiving a blank stare.

"For what?" the brunette asked before he was swiftly thrown into the air as if he were a rag doll. The singer yelped and squeezed his eyes shut tightly. Instead of falling, like he expected to, he was caught in the braided man's strong arms. Sooty lashes fluttered open slowly, and he gasped at what he saw. A large body of water sparkled beneath him from the rising son. Immediately he felt panic well up in him and he began to struggle, “What the-!”

Suddenly feeling very tired, he struggled to stay awake. However his eyes betrayed him as they drifted shut. He hadn't felt protected like this in so long. He had yearned to be held like this for ages, but being orphaned as a child created certain insecurities. As he was between the realms of sleeping and awareness he thought he heard something, but was so concentrated on staying awake he missed it.

Duo looked down upon the frail boy, and smiled gently. The ocean breeze played with the dark hair blowing it across his face. He felt a little guilty for forcing the boy into unconsciousness but also knew that if he were awake it would only be a hindrance.

You love him don't you? a voice entered his mind. Duo's head snapped up to look at Trowa, who was eyeing him intently. Trowa knew that his brother had been watching the young singer for years from afar and had grown fond of him, whether he knew it or not.

I can tell, you know. `Tis not necessary to try and deceive. The braided one sighed softly and looked into the forest eyes of one of his best friends. The banged vampire nodded seeing all the proof he needed in that one glance.

Be careful my friend. Duo only nodded, but kissed the boy's forehead tenderly and went on over the ocean.

Hours later the sun was already beginning its decline when the island came into view, Duo gently landed on the ground and softly spoke to Heero, urging him to wake up. At first, however, the boy snuggled deeper into the embrace, not wanting to open his eyes. Duo brought his hand up slowly and caressed his cheek, firmly telling him, "Heero, wake up. We're here."

Heero's eyes slowly blinked open, and he felt drowsy. He stretched, but quickly realized he was in the arms of the so-called enemy and memories of water beneath him quickly flooded his mind. Vampires were not to be trusted. He had learned, and he quickly regained his composure, pushing himself away from the others hold.

"What did you do to me?" Heero asked in an annoyed tone. He looked around him, his eyes widening at the unfamiliar surroundings. “Where the hell have you taken me?” he asked angrily, and glared at the braided vampire across from him.

"You're at my island, we're almost home. Be patient." Duo tried to explain in a rush, in an attempt to keep the other calm.

Heero growled, "I am being patient. I am just trying to find out what you people, not wait, you're not people you're...you're things! Disgusting things that murder and rape!" Heero yelled in frustration and turned away in embarrassment. “Where am I?” he whispered to himself, scared at what he might find out.

With hurt and pain filled eyes, Duo walked forward, turning the other around to face him. "I am truly sorry for what has been done to you," He said earnestly. Heero looked up sharply, at the apologetic tone and into the hurt eyes, quickly regretting his harsh words, spoken in the heat of the moment.

Violet eyes saw the unspoken apology reflected in dark blue and he smiled, “I'll explain at the house," he promised. Nodding, the singer looked to the side, searching for the other...Trowa? He seemed to have left.

It was than that Heero noticed the serene scenery. He blinked silently, looking around. Duo smiled at the other boy, and slowly slid his hand to Heero's.

“Let's go, we can walk home from here.” He said, and guided him through the greenery

"So…how long have you been an ancient?" Heero blushed at his curiosity, and the question.

Duo simply smiled, however, "You look so gorgeous when you blush." At the words, the singer's red hue darkened, and immediately an angry retort came to mind but he kept it in check.

The vampire chuckled, "Well I was born a human in fifty-six BC. to my mother, Diana, in Greece. I moved to Egypt when I was about fifteen, and that's when I became a co-advisor to the Pharaoh and his Queen. By some miracle of fate I was chosen to be head advisor, and a close confidant to Pharaoh.”

“Two years had passed and I was than seventeen. That's when it happened. News was circling through the palace that a demon had possessed the Queen." Duo stopped here noticing how his companion bristled at the mention of a demon.

"Why do hate what you are so?" Duo asked with sympathy evident in his voice, "You cannot change what you are so why not accept it?"

"Because," the brunette kept his face and his voice down, "because I hate what I am and I hate what I will become." Heero looked away ashamed, "I killed my mother, my father… my family,"(2) He said this last part sadly, but quickly regained strength, "But I will not hurt or kill my friends. They're all I have…"

He trailed off, "Go on with your story."

Duo just looked at him in pity and continued on, " Well after hearing the rumor we were all very worried, after all Queen Akasha (3) was a kind Queen. Later that night, however, around two maybe, we heard screaming coming from the royal chamber."

Stopping to smirk Duo continued saying, "We usually didn't worry when screaming came from the bedroom because of Pharaoh's...” he paused clearing his throat in an attempt to find the right word.

“...Activities I suppose, but two things were wrong. One this was male screaming and the king most definitely did not have any male concubines, nor did he ever scream. Second the Queen had specifically said only she was to lie with Pharaoh that night.”

“Hours later that screaming turned to moaning and an unfamiliar smell filled the air." Duo wrinkled his nose at the memory. "The next morning the moaning stopped around nine and there was silence throughout the palace. Around four that afternoon the Queen finally emerged from her room. She looked different, though… almost predatory.”

Violet eyes narrowed, remembering how much the demon had overtaken the woman, “Her eyes had changed from a medium hazel to a bright green and she wore provocative new clothing, with nails like talons. She called all the servants to the patio and had them sit. I remember how she looked at them as if they were meat." Duo shivered at the memory, his eyes growing distant.

"I stood next to her, as I was permitted too, and watched her closely. When she finally spoke it came out in a seductive and strangely different voice. The one thing that caught my attention, however, was the two sets of fangs she had. She had two teeth on each side of her mouth, one longer than the other, but both longer and sharper than the others."

"She smiled at them, asking the slaves if they would give their lives up for her. They all sat dumbly in front of her, not knowing how to answer. She got angry and turned to me only to bare a fanged grin. 'Duo, my son, would you not give your life for the divine as well?' I was nervous, but remained calm and answered her, by telling her I would die without a second thought, bowing as I should have.”

“She must have been pleased with my answer because she smirked, before turning back to the slaves, 'you see my slaves? See how well he obeys? That is why he is where he is and you are where you are, that is why he stays alive, but you,' she stopped there and turned to me, telling me to watch her. With that she opened her mouth wide and seemed to fly towards the slaves attacking them."

Duo said all of this in an eerily calm voice, and his eyes were clipped. Heero simply followed quietly observing the scenery as well as the taller man beside him. It was already becoming dark and he still didn't know where he was. He looked up to see the first few stars peeking out in the dusky sky, and admired them, worried thoughts for his friends filling his head.

He turned away from the sky to see Duo looking at him with almost humane eyes. "Maybe we should continue this another time." The violet-eyed vampire suggested.

"No, no…Please continue." Heero begged, he needed to know all he could about his enemies and this story provided him with that.

Duo only nodded, continuing, "When the Queen was finished, she turned to me, 'You see my child?' 'They did not understand, they were not worthy! But you, you my son, shall be a great ruler someday.' I was mortified and disgusted. My Queen, whom I had pledged my life to, had just murdered dozens of innocent people.”

“I was a loyal servant though, a loyal idiot now that I think back to it, and I gave her my life. She grabbed me, biting me roughly. It was painful at first, but than it changed. A pleasure like I had never felt before coursed through me. My senses sparked and pricked as new feelings came to me.”

“Suddenly I could hear things, like a termite crawling in the wall down, the singing of the maids in the kitchen, and children giggling in the village even! But one thing I could not hear was my Queen's heartbeat. It was as if she had no heart, and mine was getting softer as every second passed.”

“She lifted her lips from my neck, bringing a nail to her wrist she sliced through the veins without hesitation, drawing a dark thick blood. She then brought her wrist to my mouth, ordering me to drink. I turned away at first, afraid of what would happen, but as the blood dripped onto my lips, I quickly latched onto her, drinking vigorously"

"After a minute, Akasha tried to stop me by telling me I'd had enough. I couldn't stop though. She winced slightly and raised her voice, 'I said NO MORE!' and she threw me back. As I lie there my insides twisted under me, my head screamed in agony, and my limbs were burning. I tossed around, writhing on the floor as she looked at me with empty eyes.”

“Just as quickly as it came my pain subsided and I was left with a feeling of superiority over everything. I felt like nothing could touch me."

Heero interrupted slightly repulsed, "So, you enjoy having power over mortals? You enjoy the blood, the pain, the death?"

Duo frowned slightly, "Did I say that?" he asked, his tone defensive.
"You might as well have." The Japanese boy challenged.

"Well maybe if you would let me finish," Heero humphed and turned away, annoyed at the other's validation.

"Now, as I was saying. My senses raced, giving feelings I had never felt before. But as the weeks passed I noticed my Masters' hunger was engulfing them. Causing them to drain whole cities in a matter of days. They drank and drank until one day Trowa, the other ancient you saw, Held the Pharaoh onto his victim. Force-feeding the Pharaoh to his last drop, and causing him to die with his prey.”

“Without her Pharaoh at her side, Queen Akasha lost everything, even her thirst. She committed suicide six weeks later. With her last breath she screamed a wretched curse to all her kin, plunging a golden stake into her heart and through her back.”

“She created a total of seven ancients, and only my two brothers and I are left. Of course there is the abundance of fledglings.” He paused before continuing, “There are, however, another breed; the vampyr. They are older then fledglings, much older.” Amethyst eyes hardened as he spoke, “They were our mother's dying gift to us," Duo said bitterly.

"They live for one thing and one thing only. That is to wipe out the vampires. They kill anything and anyone they want, they soddomise and degrade everything. And they want you now, Heero. You are the key to everything they've ever wanted. Mother's curse was sort of like a morbid game and we are her manipulated pieces."

"What do you mean we're a 'game'?" Heero asked indignantly.

"It's not my place to answer." Duo looked forward, "We're almost there. You need some sleep." The vampire urged.

Heero only grunted, but kept moving, "Don't worry. Tomorrow I'll explain everything,” Duo grinned.

The two walked carefully over uprooted vines and Duo gently lifted the branches away from their faces. Once they were out in a clearing they stopped, only to see menacing titanium gates twisted carefully to form a barrier around a large stone estate. Heero looked up in awe at the gigantic castle, jaw dropping slightly.

Duo gently closed his mouth, "Careful, you could catch bugs." he smirked.

Heero only glared. He walked slowly and almost apprehensively up to the gates. Lazily trailing a small finger across the cold metal, Heero finally asked, leaving no room for excuses or lies, "Where are we, Duo?" he demanded.

Duo simply grinned and lifted his hand, causing the gates to creak open. "We're home."
