No one looked up at the four robed figures as they prowled fluidly down Cairo's streets. Beneath his hood, the braided vampire smirked, sensing the fear dripping off every pedestrian they walked passed. This was his home, they knew exactly what he and the three by his side were, but they remained silent. The scent of his people's blood nearly drove him mad, he knew his brother's would be in same predicament and if they didn't feed soon there would undoubtedly be a slaughter.
Hacking coughs in the distance caught his attention, and the vampire spun, mid-stride, down a darkened market square. The plaster huts where the poor merchants lived were permeated with the stench of disease and rot. Pearl teeth flashed brilliantly in the moonlight as the pleased ancient grinned sadistically. The rancid smell was evidence alone of the recent raid a clan of vampyr must have had on the unfortunate square.
The smirk quickly turned to a frown however when the braided vampire felt waves of almost hunger induced hysteria from his brother's lover. The petite blonde was sending off signals of blind hunger, and the ancient knew if the blonde wasn't fed soon he would attack the nearest living thing. He merely had to glance back at his banged brother with glowing eyes to let the other know he disapproved. The look he received put him at ease however as he noticed the green-eyed vampire scoot closer and grab his lover harshly.
Hearing the coughs grow louder and more pronounced, the group of vampires turned another corner into a small inlet where they stopped to take in the clustered groups of homeless people lying on mats and cardboard.
Turning to the silent Chinese at his right, Duo nodded minutely, the other merely turned away without a word and went to stand just outside the inlet.
Stretching out his canines, the Vampire turned back to face the sleeping outcasts. Disappearing for a moment he reappeared suddenly, behind the small blonde who was now shaking in need. “Stay away from the sick ones…” was all he said then disappeared once more.
Stumbling forward drunkenly, the blonde groped for the nearest sleeping person while his more composed lover sat back and waited. With red eyes that pulsed slightly from blood the blonde growled tearing into the person, who had only woken moments before. Frowning and stepping forward, the banged ancient covered the haggard outcast's mouth as he attempted to scream, and grabbed his wrist with his other hand, sucking it gently.
Leaving the two feeding lovers at the entrance of the inlet, Shinigami crept in the shadows when his eyes fell upon the small figure of the girl whose coughing had led them to the hidden inlet. Her small frame shook with the force of her coughing and she groaned, curling in on herself.
Stepping out of the shadows he smiled in an unarming way when her deep-set eyes fell on him. Half-expecting the brown eyes to widen and dart away in immediate fear, the braided immortal was surprised when they merely stared back into his own violets, coolly. The girl knew exactly what he was and she welcomed her death.
The only sign she still held onto her humanity was her slight retreat when he stepped forward. He smirked, gliding in closer so that he was almost upon her, he leaned forward, his teeth aching in need until her quiet voice lifted the blood lust haze and made him straighten stiffly. “Are you my sweet angel?” she asked, her eyes were shadowed but a bitter smile was across her dirt smudged face. “Here to take me to the afterlife…”
His body was rigid now, this girl knew what he was, what game was she playing? Opening his mouth to speak, she quickly interrupted, the lone word she whispered quelled his lips instantly, “Shinigami…”
Her voice was strained and desperate, another fit of coughs attacked her and she rattled like a leaf, bringing her hands up to her mouth. “They were here only days ago Shinigami. They spoke about the half-breed.”
He stared at the girl in amazement then frowned, crouching down in front of her, “Where were they going?” his voice was low and sharp, only wanting a clear answer. She stayed quiet for a moment and merely rocked herself slowly, her arms wrapped tightly around her scraped knees.
He growled leaning in closer, then stopped, cowering away from her instantly, “You're dead,” his voice was devoid of all emotion as he stood. They had camouflaged the scent of it, but the girl before him had been dead for days.
Even though her features were shadowed he could see the mocking smile across her cracked lips, “I'm a trap, Shinigami. After your friends drank from me, killing them, I was to tell you where to find Treize.”
Snarling down on the girl he quickly turned to his banged brother nearly screaming across the alley, “Trowa!” his voice brought the other to sharp attention. “Stop drinking from these people, NOW!”
The small blonde didn't have a moment to think before he was torn from the body he was attached to. The neck was ripped from his teeth and he hissed, his eyes a dark red, “What's wrong?” he asked. His lover merely stared down on him and shook his head looking back over to the braided vampire.
“This girl has dead blood. Some others could have it too,” was all the tall vampire said before stooping over to lift her up by the front of her ragged top. “Now, where are they?” he asked through clenched teeth.
The dead girl only grinned down on him maniacally and slowly raised her arm up, pointing off to something in the distance. “Treize is waiting for you in your old home. They rebuilt over the ruins of your palace. He thought it was only fitting to kill you where your mother killed herself.”
Growling, the braided Vampire threw the girl back into her corner, “That wench was not my mother.” He said before swiftly braking the small girl's neck, the insane smile still lingering on her lips.
He turned away from her mangled body and walked towards his fellow vampires. “Let's find something else to eat and then go. I want to see Heero before the sun rises.”
Trowa nodded, and grasped his lover's hand pulling him out of the alley and back onto the street. The Chinese youth turned to them grinning; he'd heard the exchange and had been excited to finally be able to kill the vampyr. The four walked calmly down the street and didn't flinch when they heard the click of a gun and an angry yell.
“Where's Heero?” a feminine voice asked. Smirking, Duo turned around to see his shorter companion's band members standing in the street behind them. The girl held a gun at eye level, and her arm was steady. The two boys on either side of her held guns as well, but had a belt of stakes and knives around their waists.
Stepping forward, a carefree grin overtook the braided vampire's features, “So you've finally decided to show yourselves. I was wondering when you would come out.”
Hearing this, the girl's eyes only widened a fraction, but her aim remained strong, her taller brother's face was placid, and the shorter third member clenched his teeth angrily. “You didn't actually think you could hide from an ancient did you? We knew you'd been following us. Very clever of you though to guess we'd come to Egypt.”
The blonde merely snorted, narrowing her eyes, “I don't give a shit what you think I just want Heero.”
Violet eyes darkened and the other stepped forward, slightly, “He seems to be very popular lately. If you want him back you should come with us. Then again Trowa's fledgling is very hungry…” he trailed off, these were Heero's friends and the small boy would never forgive him if any harm came to them.
The beautiful girl's twin brother was the first to lower his gun and he also took a step forward, “You don't have him.” The statement was simple that, “You've been looking for him all this time too. After you kidnapped him of course.”
The violet-eyed man nodded, but otherwise didn't reply, as the three behind him stood closer to him, protectively.
The female rock star stepped forward, her chest out proudly, the ancients could see she was trying to disguise her fear and was succeeding except for the fact that her eyes quivered as she spoke. “He hates your kind, you know,” her stab at them was lessened by the way she watched them nervously and when they only stared back at her she continued.
“So you're looking for him too then?” she asked her voice was steady, but a little high.
Smirking at her boldness, the blonde fledgling stepped forward, his innocent features setting her off balance when she saw him. His smirk stretched into a wide, but easy smile. Even he could smell the fear that radiated from her, and he wanted to see how far he could go before scaring her back into her place.
Focussing all his energies into the tricks and talents his lover had showed him he managed to disappear momentarily and reappear behind the blonde girl, pulling her hair away from her neck gently. “We have been looking for the last of kin…” he paused looking up to see the way his braided elder would respond to his actions.
When the other merely smirked at him, he continued leaning in close to the fragile neck, “Are you sure he hates our kind? I'm quite sure Duo had a good time getting to know him…”
As he trailed off he let the girl feel his breath against her neck and grinned when she shivered, but stiffened at his words. “What do you mean `getting to know him'? And what the hell is the last of kin?”
She shook her head, resisting the angelic boy behind her and glared hatefully at the violet-eyed beauty before her. “What'd you do to him you bastar-“
Before she could finish her scream, a rough hand clamped over her mouth and tilted her head to the side with ease, exposing her life source. Turquoise eyes glittered, and the fledgling's tongue nearly dripped in anticipation as he struggled to rein in his hunger. His eyes sharpened when he heard the other's behind him, the girl's brother and fellow band member had grown more anxious by the second and when the blonde's throat was bare, they had, had enough.
“Stop this,” was all the tall blonde man said, his voice calm but his hands shaking in fear for his sister. He didn't dare step forward, seeing how far it had gotten his sister, and yet the urge to protect her was strong, pulling his body toward the two blondes. Taking a cautious step forward, he reached out to the two, “Please…we just want to find Heero.”
Hard violets narrowed, he hadn't felt human emotions in centuries and yet only days after meeting the blue-eyed Japanese they had seemed to all flood back to him in full force. He grit his teeth, angry at the genuine pity he felt for the group of musicians and nodded to the blonde with the shaking girl in his grasp.
“I know how much you all mean to him, and he obviously means a lot to you for you to come all the way out here.” He watched as the shorthaired fledgling released the tall girl and vanished to reappear next to his lover.
The human youth merely nodded back at him, a look a relief washing over his features as he grabbed his sister around the waist. The girl had backed away quickly once she'd been released, and was still shaking slightly in her brother's hold.
The dark-headed teen, which stood a little in front of her protectively, had a look of fire in his eyes that seemed to warn the other vampires against hurting the girl. It didn't surprise the braided vampire when he voiced his anger.
“We'll help you find Heero under three conditions,” he said, his eyes still burning silently.
His face was hard and angular, yet chiseled in it's own unique beauty. Duo looked him up and down appreciatively, he was his brother's type and he was surprised that the Chinese hadn't attempted anything in all the time they'd known they were following. When he heard the young man's threat he couldn't hold back the laughter that fell past his lips, he could hear quiet chuckles coming from behind him and he knew the other's words had struck them as well.
“To be honest I don't give a damn about your help. We know where Heero is and you would only get in the way.” He smirked, seeing the other boy fume at being laughed at and waited for his reply.
The shorter boy was almost shaking in rage, the thought of these vampires telling him and his friend's that they were weak and would only hinder the Japanese boy's rescue angered him beyond belief.
“In two years I've killed nearly thirty vampires!” he yelled, his voice rough as he stepped forward slightly, only to gasp when suddenly the four vampires before him faded into the shadows. The three teens looked around, their eyes scanning every inch of the street they were on. Adrenaline pumping through each person's veins, they held fighting positions and struggled to steady their breaths. Lee grit his teeth, baring them angrily as the mocking laughter echoed throughout the streets once again.
“You've killed nearly thirty vampires you say?” The voice seemed to be coming from everywhere, and the frightened musicians were unable to pinpoint the location of the fanged immortals. The Asian drummer had to hold in the yelp that threatened to escape his throat when suddenly he was lifted off of the ground by his neck, his feet dangling helplessly. Gasping, he grabbed at the unforgiving hand that squeezed his throat and darted his dark eyes to look down into angry violets. He could hear scuffling behind him and knew without looking that the other vampires held his friend's helplessly as well. Suddenly bringing his dark eyes back to glowing violets they widened at what they heard.
“You listen to me human. I've killed nearly thirty million people in my lifetime. You're nothing to me, but you mean something to Heero so I'm going to keep you alive.” He paused, a devilish smile spreading over his features, and his sharp incisors glittered as he held the fragile throat in his hand a little tighter, cutting off the boy's air supply.
“Just remember, don't fuck with me, there are things worse then death.” With that he dropped the young drummer to the ground carelessly and stepped back, as his brother's dropped the other two band members to the dirty streets as well.
“If you really want to come with us, feel free. You can follow behind. Your choice.” The braided immortal's face was placid and held no emotion to sway the other's before him. Looking back and forth between each other they each came to a conscious decision and nodded.
Once again the tall blonde stepped forward, her green eyes shining, “We're coming with you.” Duo merely nodded, already knowing the decision before her confirmation fell from her lips. He glanced over her body quickly, his eyes flashing from her to her brother to the third band member in a matter of seconds and took in the attire of all three.
The girl, now sported a high ponytail that pulled her hair back tightly and gave her a severe look, she wore chunky leather boots with loose fitting khakis, and a tight deep blue tank top. A tan leather coat covered her, and concealed most of her weaponry save for a shiny pistol that was hanging at her hip. He remembered her from the concert, she was Heero's back up singer and played the guitar, she and her twin had been close to the Japanese since they were little.
Her taller brother's longish blonde hair was styled around his face and over his eyes although the piercing hazel was still visible. He wore a long-sleeved black turtleneck with camo-pants and black boots. His weapons were visible, all carefully placed in a belt around his waist. The braided vampire could remember him as well, the twin who played bass, Heero cared for both of them deeply.
He turned around and began to walk down the streets his mind back tracking to the final member of the band. The Asian spitfire hadn't known Heero or the other two for as long but he was just as important to the singer. His hair was loose, and fell slightly into his dark eyes. He wore a dark red button down shirt, with loose fitting black pants and a long black, trench coat. His throwing stars gleamed at him from the belt around his waist and a small handgun was tucked safely at his hip.
Gritting his teeth in annoyance, the violet-eyed immortal shook his head slightly. Unless they carried the three behind them there was no way they would make it to the castle from this town before sunrise. That wasn't much of a problem for him or his other two brother's, but the petite blonde was another issue. He had never drunk from Akasha and was therefore, not immune to the deadly effects of sunlight. Amethyst eyes blinked when the voice of his banged brother suddenly drifted into his mind.
`What do you want to do? he didn't even have to look to know that green eyes were gleaming and a small smirk was on the other's lips. He had to keep from snorting and stayed silent, allowing the other to continue. `We all know they can't make it, and Quatre will need somewhere to stay if we don't make it to the castle.' Unconsciously nodding to himself, in agreement with the other ancient, Duo pursed his lips together lightly.
`If they agree would you and Wufei be up to helping me carry them? It's easier then finding a place to stay, and definitely less risky,' He waited, nodding slightly when the other agreed and spoke with the Chinese.
He stopped suddenly and turned, a mask of indifference across his handsome features. “The castle is far, and walking will add at least another day.” He paused, watching the reactions of the other's, the girl seemed confused, the dark-haired boy looked suspicious, but the older of the twins seemed to be guessing what would come next.
“We're going to fly to the castle…carrying you.”
Three sets of eyes widened, and the younger sister spoke, “Are you serious?” she asked. A slender auburn brow rose slightly and was her only warning before she was floating a few feet off of the ground. She shrieked and threw her arms and legs around wildly before realizing that the braided vampire behind her was actually keeping her above ground.
Clasping her long arms around his neck she nodded, pulling herself together, “I'm ready.” She could hear gasps of surprise from below her before she blinked only to see her brother and one of her best friends floating beside her within the arms of the other two ancients.
The vampire holding her nodded to his brothers and the small fledgling struggling to stay above ground. His teeth shined slightly and he smiled at the fledgling apologetically, he knew this would take a lot out of him. Explaining the directions to the small Arabian, he took off suddenly and they vanished from the barren city streets.
Another heart wrenching scream echoed through the dark room as a sickening crack was heard and a slender body slid down the wall it had been smashed into. The pale face scrunched up painfully and weak arms shook as they struggled to lift their body off of the unforgiving ground. Finally managing to sit up, the small figure kept his eyes downcast, and grunted, spitting out the blood that had flooded his mouth. His muscles ached and shook uncontrollably as they were pushed beyond their limits to help the slender boy stand.
The instant unsure feet were standing upright, the boy cried out when a black whip came forward from the shadows and wrapped around his neck, efficiently cutting off his oxygen. His hands were instantly at his neck, pulling at the black whip, he ground his teeth together tightly and winced, as he choked out every breath. A strangled grunt ripped through his throat when he was suddenly pulled by the whip and dragged into the shadows. His vision was spotting, and his head had already been pulsing from hitting the wall so many times, but he wouldn't give in to the monster hidden in the darkness.
Too weak to resist, he was dragged closer to the small chair centered in between the giant urns of burning incense. He could barely make out the dark outline of the devil that had been holding him here in this room for hours, and the sight renewed his earlier struggle.
Sucking in his every breath haggardly, he growled and glared murderously when he heard laughter coming from the shadow before him. He looked around him when he could hear the echoing laughter coming from the walls. The walls were littered with eyes and they glowed an eerie red, their black bodies blending in and becoming one with the shadows.
A maniacal smile and large yellow eyes leered at him from the seat when a child-like laughter spilled from glossed lips, and the figure spoke. “Silly little mortal…” the voice was high pitched, and blue eyes struggled to stay open when the malicious smile widened and the slight figure stood.
The small shadow crept closer and the Japanese attempted to scramble backwards, when small feet and thin legs finally emerged from the shadows. Half-lidded sapphires began to glaze as unconsciousness gnawed at the edges of his vision. The brunette could barely scratch out a protest as he was suddenly lifted by his neck and the small face before him grinned crazily.
“Why won't you tell me what I want to know, hmm?” the question had a pitch to it that resembled a pouting child.
Sagging lungs filled immediately as the whip disappeared and he sucked in a deep breath, coughing around the hand that was still clasped around his neck loosely. He blinked repeatedly, concentrating on straightening out his vision when he focused his deep blue eyes on the topaz one's boring into his with false innocence.
He felt his body jolt as the girl shook him impatiently, “Don't you know daddy will be mad at me?” her voice was high and she frowned at him.
Heero sneered at the girl, but remained silent. She'd been torturing him for hours and asking him questions. Questions which he had no answers for.
She looked like she could be no older then ten; her round face had been painted and powdered to give the appearance of a china doll. She had large red spots on both cheeks for a flushed look, her lashes were long, and her lips were a shiny bright pink.
Chin-length, red hair framed the pale face and was completed with an obnoxiously large yellow bow protruding from behind her straight cut bangs. A formal school uniform complete with knee-high socks and shiny Mary Janes seemed misplaced on her frail body.
She controlled all the shadow demons that lurked along the walls and had not hesitated in using them to further harm the Japanese. She was Treize's daughter, but was by all standards out of her mind, and her pale fragile-looking body betrayed all her inner strength.
“I already told you!” The blue-eyed boy nearly yelled into the small, emotionless face, “I have no idea what you're talking about!” His anger was only fueled, when she smiled again and giggled uncontrollably, tossing his bigger body across the floor as if he were a toy.
Grunting as he skid across the floor, he merely laid there motionlessly, his chest slowly rising, listening to her laughter and the laughter of the shadows.
Abruptly, the laughter died, and the small girl stood with clenched fists, her eyes shadowed, “I don't like daddy when he's mad,” she said, her fists beginning to shake.
“You're going to tell me what I want to know!” She screamed, and held out her fists suddenly, causing the small boy to fly back. The small redhead called out to her shadow demons, raising her arms above her head, ordering them to attack the boy on the ground.
Heero screamed when he suddenly felt as if he were being torn in two. He shuddered as the demons grabbed him, grabbing his hands roughly and chaining them together. He watched nervously as they hung him from the ceiling.
Suddenly, the vampire doll was floating before him, her voice was low and threatening, “You're going to regret disobeying me, mortal.”
He blinked, only to find her gone and his eyes widened suddenly, the deep blue iris' shrinking in pain when he suddenly felt fire burn through his body. Arching his back and tilting his head up he released a long aching cry as he felt the deep bites of each shadow as they drained him.
He could feel his body wither and his vision begin to blur again as they continued to slash into him with their teeth. Gritting his teeth as his eyes began to water, he remembered the promise made to him from the braided ancient.
Feeling the chains unlock and his body beginning to fall, Heero closed his eyes as exhaustion and blood loss took over.
