Chapter 13
Leslie and Ariel both sat down next to each other in the gundam hangar in front of a table. The girls contented themselves to looking around the room with Duo, Wufei and Trowa got whatever it was they were going to teach organized. `Hm… I wonder what these gundam things do…' Leslie thought, wanting to get up and get a closer look.
`I wonder how they even built these things…' Ariel trailed off while trying to get a better look at the nearest gundam without getting up.
“Hey, are you guys almost done?” Leslie asked as she turned back around, only to see a wrench come flying at her. “That was uncalled for.” Leslie stated after ducking the flying object.
“Ok, we're ready.” Duo said as he walked over with a bunch of tools in his arms and spread them out on the table. “Alright then!” Duo said cheerily after Wufei and Trowa had sat down. “This,” He said holding up an object, “is a wrench.”
Ariel and Leslie nodded their understanding. “Uh huh.” Ariel said, only a complete idiot wouldn't know that.
“This is a Philips head.” Duo continued, hoping he wasn't going to fast for the girls.
“Well apparently not that much has changed in the last 300 years.” Leslie whispered to Ariel who couldn't help but smirk. “These look like the same types of tools I have in my garage.” She mumbled while Duo went on identifying every tool on the table.
“Err, hello?” Duo stopped and put down the drill bit he had been holding. “Did you two already know this stuff?” He asked.
“Um, yeah pretty much, but mostly just the basics.” Leslie answered.
“Oh,” Duo said and sat down, feeling disappointed that he wasn't going to be able to teach as much as he'd liked, “Is that all you know?”
“Erm…yeah pretty much.” Ariel answered, noticing that Duo looked disappointed.
“Well I guess we can move on to harder things then.” Trowa said and handed each girl a manual.
“So…why do we have to learn mechanics anyways?” Leslie asked. “I don't have a problem with it, personally I've always wanted to learn how to do this stuff.” She added and began flipping through the manual that had been handed to her.
“Well…uh,” Duo began, but didn't really know how to answer her question.
“If you had to go under-cover, this would be the job you'd be doing.” Trowa answered.
“Oh.” Leslie replied.
“Um, what is this for?” Ariel asked as she flipped through the manual and looking at a few pages in confusion.
“It's a manual you baka.” Wufei said as if it were quite possibly the stupidest question he'd ever heard.
“Hey man, that's not very nice!” Ariel said, her voice raising a half octave as she continued to flip through the manual.
“Wufei, is there something bothering you?” Duo asked, “You've looked angrier than usual since you walked in.”
“Maybe it's because he got beat by a girl.” Leslie stated, still flipping through pages.
“Twice!” Ariel added with a smirk.
“Shut up you stupid ona!” Wufei exclaimed while shooting Duo a `if you say one more word about that I'll kill you' glare.
“Um, so is anyone going to tell me what this is for?” Ariel asked while turning the book sideways to look at a picture of something that looked a lot like the gundams in front of her.
“That,” Duo began, pointing to the manual in Ariel's hands, “is a mechanic manual of our gundams with all the parts listed. And that,” Duo added as he pointed to the manual in Leslie's hands, “is a mechanic manual on all the known mobile suits.”
Leslie looked sideways at Ariel, and noted that the manual in her hands was three times thicker than the one Ariel had.
“Oh, ok.” Ariel agreed and continued to flip through the numerous pages.
“Uh, so do lots of people have gundams?” Leslie asked as he leaned to look over Ariel's shoulder.
“No, only us, Heero and Quatre.” Trowa answered while motioning to Duo, Wufei and himself.
“Then why do we have to learn about them, if you guys are the only ones that have them?” Ariel asked and looked up from the book.
“Well, we have a lot of repairs and the enemies sometimes get wise to our tactics. It always helps to have an extra set out hands to help out.” Duo answered while leaning his chair back and placing his hands on the back of his head.
“Enemies?” Leslie asked.
“The people that don't want peace between the colonies and earth.” Trowa answered and noticed the blank expressions each girl gave him.
“Colonies?” Ariel asked, raising an eyebrow.
“They're in space.” Wufei answered, and noted the disbelieving expressions on each of the girls' faces.
“Right…” Leslie and Ariel said at the same time, not believing them.
“So anyways, what are we going to do?” Ariel asked- she really loved mechanics.
“You two get to read those manuals while we make repairs to our gundams.” Duo answered with a smile as each boy grabbed a tool box and headed for their gundams.
“Oh…” Ariel said in disappointment and picked up the manual, starting from the beginning.
After a long 2 hours or so the girls were told to head to the next room they were supposed to go, luckily Duo had decided to show them the way otherwise the girls would have surely gotten lost.
“Man that was really boring.” Ariel whined as she and Leslie followed Duo down the hallway.
“It wasn't that bad, it was informative.” Leslie countered as they stepped into a dimly lit room.
“Um…Hi?” Ariel half greeted as Leslie closed the door behind them.
“Oh hello!” Came a very cheery greeting as a blond boy stepped towards them. “I'm Quatre.” He added while holding his hand out to them, wearing the biggest smile either of them had ever seen.
“Hi…” Leslie said, feeling a bit uncomfortable because insanely happy people tended to scare her.
Heero stood up and turned the TV on while turning towards the girls. “You two will be learning about strategizing from Quatre and me.” He explained in a monotone voice.
“Ok?” Leslie half asked half agreed in confusion.
“Great, what do we have to read now?” Ariel asked hoping there wasn't some strategizing manual they would have to read.
“First we want to see if you two can even come up with strategies for situations, so Quatre and I will watch you play this game.” Heero explained while motioning to the TV screen.
“Woohoo!” Ariel and Leslie said while high-fiving each other and walking over to sit in front of the TV.
“It's a one player game so you'll have to take turns.” Quatre stated while handing Ariel a controller.
“No problem,” Leslie commented, “Ariel and I usually team up on one player games anyways. Hm you know, this looks startlingly like a PS2 huh Ariel?” Leslie asked, hinting that she didn't believe they were in the future.
“Yea.” Ariel agreed and looked down at the game console before starting the game.
Heero and Quatre sat down behind the girl's on the couch and watched as Leslie and Ariel played the game. `Hm, they seem to work well as a team.' Heero made note, noticing that while Ariel could figure out fighting tactics and strategies fairly quickly, Leslie could do so, while keeping a cool head and also spot out of the ordinary things.
“Wow you two are pretty good at this.” Quatre commented.
“Well I would hope so,” Ariel answered without taking her eyes off the screen, “we've been playing video games since we were like six.”
“Really?” I didn't think they had video games back then.” Quatre mused.
“Well…now you do…” Leslie commented with a shadow of annoyance in her voice while taking the controller from Ariel.
After about 2 hours of video game playing Heero had decided he'd seen enough for the moment and thought it was probably time they taught Quatre something.
“So Heero, why do you want us to train us to carry out missions?” Leslie asked as she Ariel, Heero and Quatre headed for yet another door.
“Because we need new people that the rebel organizations such as OZ wouldn't suspect.” He replied flatly.
“Yeah, and lucky for us, you two came out of nowhere so they can't even find out your identities.” Quatre interjected.
“Ok, well what exactly will we be doing?” Ariel asked.
“Gathering information, and getting rid of enemy bases,” Heero explained, “by way of explosion.” He added remembering that one of the two had a strange fixation on blowing things up.
“Cool…” Leslie said, “I blew I soda can up in science once. It was cool `cause the teacher was all like `What did you think you were doing! You were supposed to be making crystals!' Yup, that was awesome, even if I got yelled at for like ten minutes and wasn't allowed in the science lab anymore after that.”
“You're so weird…” Ariel commented. “So when's lunch?” Ariel asked turning away from Leslie and towards Heero.
“You're making it.” Heero said. “And you'll be teaching Quatre how to cook.”
“Eh…?” Ariel and Leslie said looking past heero to see a somewhat excited looking Quatre and walked into the kitchen.
