~Wild Thang - Part 3~

When Duo turned the age of about 10, something
dreadful happened.

Solo was walking through the jungle, looking for any
signs of the villagers if they should follow them
after all this time. He found a plant that he had
never seen before.

'Perhaps this rare plant only grows at certain times.'
Solo noted.

So deep in his discovery however, he didn't realize
that there was a poisonous snake behind him. With a
quick bite, the poison was injected into Solo. Solo,
startled, fought the snake, screaming for Duo. Duo
came as fast as he could when Solo started calling out
his name. Together, they beat back the snake and
collapsed against each other.

"Is there anything I can do?" Duo asked, brushing away
the sweat on Solo's forehead.

"Iie. That snake was poisonous. We don't have any
antidotes. Gomen nasai." Solo panted.

"Iie. Please, don't leave me." Duo weeped.

"Hush." Solo replied, brushing away the tears. "It's
my time. I knew that in the jungle, there is always a
risk of dying. You know that as well. For what is
life without death?"

"But Solo. I don't want you to go." Duo protested.

"You may not want me to go, but perhaps Fate has
something else in stored for you to consider." Solo
whispers. "Live on my precious Duo. Do not forget
me."

"Never." Duo promises. "I will never forget."

Solo smiles. Duo held Solo until the poison killed
him. Duo was now alone. The first thing Duo did was
properly bury the body of his friend, family, mentor
and idol. Solo had told him stories of how other
people gave respect for the dead and he planned on
honoring Solo with every ounce of respect he had. He
was taught by Solo to read and write a bit, so he was
able to carve out Solo's name onto the tree where Solo
will rest beneath with a sharp rock. Brushing the
bark gently, Duo smiled down at the grave.

"Rest in peace Solo. I can't wait to see you soon."
Duo promised.

The wind picked up and Duo's wild hair flew around
him. Faint scents of lilac drifted towards Duo.

"I will never forget you, nor your lessons. I will
prove to those villagers who chased us out that we can
survive. And we have. Even if I am the last. You
told me once, that as long as there is someone out
there that remembers you, that's all that matters."
Duo said. "And I will remember."

Duo returned to their-no-his home to mourn for the
passing of such a great friend. It seemed that for
about a week, the jungle itself, mourned the lost of
one of its greatest inhabiter.

Roughly 8 years have passed since that fateful day,
making Duo around 18, a group from the 'civilized'
world decided to do some exploring.

"Relena-imouto, are you sure about this?" Zechs asked
for what seemed like the millionth time that day.

"For the last time, hai! You need to get away. I
hear the jungle is nice place to relax in." Relena
offered.

"I still don't see the point to this little
expedition." Zechs sighed.

"Well, if you want to have things as a mission
statement, go ask Heero." Relena replied.

"Fine." Zechs muttered, not wanting to deal with his
little sister's silent best friend.

"Ja ne Zechs-oniisan!" Relena chirped, disconnecting
the line.

'Great, just great.' Zechs thought darkly to himself.
"Heero-san?"

"Hai?" Heero asked, popping up beside Zechs.

Zechs, startled, jumped a good couple feet. Zechs
scolded, "Haven't Relena-imouto told you not to scare
people like that?"

"Ninmu-"

"Don't even say it." Zechs interrupted. "Now, my dear
imouto has informed me that if I want to have a nice
mission statement, to come talk to you. So, what's
there to do here besides for me to 'relax'?"

"I've been talking to the locals, there seemed to be
an argument that broke out about 18 years ago. Two of
the village's inhabitants ran into the jungle to
escape some sort of village fate deemed upon them by
their elder." Heero replied in his monotone voice.

"Really..." Zechs replied, intrigued.

"Hai. The two inhabitants were left for dead, but
then, a village psychic arose and informed the
populous that they are alive." Heero informed Zechs.

"And our mission?" Zechs asked.

"To confirm whether or not they still live." Heero
replied.

To Be Continued...

Zechs finally makes the scene. Finally. Look who he
brought too! Zechs' about 20 years old.
