~Wild Thang - Part 11~

The next morning, Duo packed the things that he may
need for the journey. Actually, it was more like
Quatre telling him what he needed to bring. Together,
they set off towards the village. It took them over a
day to reach the village. A lot shorter time compared
to searching for the boy.

"Wow! What's that?" Duo asked, pointing to the
structure before them.

"That's the gate that surrounds the village. It's
there to protect the villagers from wild animals."
Trowa answered.

They entered and were greeted by Dorothy and Relena.

"I never knew you had the time to come and visit."
Zechs stated.

"Oh oniisan, when Dorothy-san informed me that you
would arrive back with the lost child, I just HAD to
be here to welcome them back into civilization."
Relena gushed.

"Duo-san, this is Relena Peacecraft, Zechs' imouto."
Quatre introduced.

"Oh my! Such a lovely young man!" Relena squealed.

"Please forgive her, she hasn't been out of our city
for a LONG time." Zechs said, blushing. "She's bound
to be hyperactive."

"You say that like it's a bad thing." Relena mocked.

"It is." Heero replied in his monotone, nasal voice.

"HEERO!" Relena protested, pouting.

Duo tugged at Quatre's sleeve, "Girl?"

"Hai. Definitely a girl." Quatre replied, smiling.
"And this is Dorothy Catalonia. She and I are the
local healers and psychics."

"Konnichiwa Duo-san." Dorothy said, bowing.

Duo awkwardly bowed as well in return. Duo's eyes
wandered around the village, taking in everything with
wonder.

"He is so kawaii! Tell me he's staying with us when
we return!" Relena pleaded excitedly at Zechs.

"Gomen nasai imouto, but he doesn't want to move away
from his jungle home. He grew up there and doesn't
feel comfortable in a different surroundings. It took
much effort just to get him to see the village. I
doubt he will want to go elsewhere." Zechs informed
Relena.

"Such a shame. I'm sure you'll be VERY disappointed."
Wufei snickered.

Zechs blushed bright crimson.

"Oniisan? What does he mean by that?" Relena asked,
looking at her older brother.

"It means that dear old Zechs Merquise here has fallen
in love." Treize replied smugly.

"With him?!? That wild jungle boy?" Relena asked,
shocked.

Zechs' flushed features was her response. She knew he
was in love as well as in lust.

"Does he even know about love?" Relena asked.

"We tried to explain it to him before. And don't call
him 'wild jungle boy'. I don't like it and I don't
think he'll like it too much either. Even if he
didn't know what that meant." Zechs muttered. "His
name is Duo. Use it Relena-imouto."

"All right. If you know what you're doing..." Relena
trailed off.

"I am." Zechs reassured.

They showed Duo around the village and introduced him
to the current village elders.

"We are glad that you are safe." the elders'
spokesperson said. "It was a shame that our elders
did not feel the same. And its cost is Solo's life.
His antics were missed. Some even anticipate his
triumphant return. Alas, it is a shame he passed
away. You think of him much?"

"Every day." Duo replied, his eyes going misty.

The elder nodded, "A person will always be remembered
when there is at least one who remembers. Remember
that young Duo."

"I will. Could you tell me about my mother or
father?" Duo asked.

"No one knew who your father was. Your mother always
claimed it to be a fae being she fell in love with.
Many people thought she gone insane with fever." the
elder informed Duo. "Gomen nasai."

"It's all right. So no one knows who my father was?
No one?" Duo asked, sadly.

"Only your mother knew who he was." the elder said.

"Where is she now?" Duo asked.

"Duo-san, she's dead." Dorothy answered gently.

"Dead? Like Solo?" Duo asked.

"Hai. Like Solo. Gomen nasai." Dorothy replied.

"It's all right I guess. I sorta figured that if Solo
was taking care of me, my mother's gone." Duo said,
looking down at the ground, blinking back tears.

"Would you still like to know about your mother?" the
elder asked.

"Hai. And I want to know how she died." Duo replied.
