“Pettigrew! Have you discovered who dared to attack my death eaters yet?” a creepy raspy voice crackled through the head phone Mina was wearing, a weak voice replied quickly in a stuttering fearful voice. Mina turned to glance at Nessa who wore the other ear piece. Nessa pointed to the red switch Mina had in her left hand, asking silently if she was going to set off the bombs. Mina shook her head tapping her ear piece, wanting to wait and see if they might hear something important. The cloak figure demanded many answers and all save a few replied with fearful voices. Mina took note of the voices she heard that didn’t sound afraid, recognizing some from the night of the attack on her family. Glad that she was getting to record this.
It took the better part of the night before it sounded as though they were wrapping up. Turning once more mina smiled at Nessa and held out the switch box then set up for her first shot. Raising her hand she gave Nessa the signal to flip the first switch, moments later she watched through her scope as the flash bombs exploded and the hoard was disoriented. Nessa flipped the second switch right after just as she had been told to. The bombs explosion created a screen of smoke and debris, waiting for it to clear Mina was going to ensure any survivors stupid enough to still be in the clearing would be dead men. But to her amazement the smoke and debris swept aside, as if being pushed by a wall of air… or magic.
Thanking Nessa silently Mina took aim and shot those who were too disoriented to disappear, her targets began to scatter, focusing on those who had gotten to their feet, leaving the injured for later. When her moving targets had all disappeared she noticed several red eyes blinking at the edge of the woods around the clearing. Nessa hissed, but Mina ignored the distraction, taking out the rest of her targets. As the last one was taken care of Nessa placed her hands on Mina’s arms “mistress we must go, now!” the fear in Nessa’s voice through Mina for a moment. And with that she felt herself being squished once more.
Nessa let go of her and ran to collect their belongings, knowing that they did need to clear out of the area before any help came back to check for survivors Mina didn’t argue or ask questions. It took only a few seconds for everything to be collected and piled together beside Mina. Nessa moved quickly placing a hand on Mina’s leg and the other on the bags. When Mina blinked they were back at the spot where they had first met. Looking down Nessa seemed calmer but still anxious; picking up the bags Mina shouldered them and suggested “if we start walking now we can be back to the edge of the forest by sun rise.” Nessa nodded quickly and waited dancing from one foot to another for Mina to lead the way. It only took a second for Mina to reorient herself with the mental marks she had memorized.
It was shortly after seven when they reached the edge of the forest and Mina stopped. Nessa couldn’t just go walking through the street as she was, it would draw way to much attention. But Mina didn’t want to leave her here alone, whatever had scared her, had scared her bad. It couldn’t have been her killing those bastards, mina thought, Nessa took to holding Mina’s pantleg for comfort very shortly after they had started walking. Nessa seemed to have calmed down now , though she still had a death grip on her pants. “Nessa, you can't walk through town and we have to go through to get to my place.” Mina told her quietly. “Nessa nodded looking back into the forets and disappeared, though Mina couldn’t see her she could still feel the pull on her pants and if you looked close you could see the inprints of a fist where Nessa’s hand should be.
Of course they can go invisible Mina shook her head and began walking again. Wanting more than anything to just go straight home, Mina sighed, because she knew she had to stop at Dizzy’s stall. Walking through the crowed market proved difficult Mina tried to stay away from the crowd as much as possible, not wanting Nessa to get bumped. Dizzy’s stall seem farther than normal for the extra effort they had to put into getting there. Dizzy sat behind her table reading a book and watching the crowd passing by. Catching sight of Mina she jumped up and walked to the edge of the table, “Mina, thought you said you’d be gone longer? I’m glad you’re back safe, how was your trip?” she questioned smiling, glancing down at Mina’s crunched up pants curiously then back at Mina’s face.
Mina shrugged “it didn’t take as long as I thought it would”. Mina replied ambiguously, “any sales?” Dizzy took the hint not to ask any more questions and move swiftly to the next topic. “Oh yes, I’ve sold over half of your painting already” she informed Mina while reaching for her lockbox to retrieve Mina’s share of the sales money. Nodding as she took the money Mina thanked Dizzy and left, picking up several more canvases, before heading to her building. Once they were inside Nessa began pulling out and put everything neatly down, the image almost made Mina laugh since Nessa had forgotten she was still invisible. “Nessa, I like it much better when I am able to see you” Mina hinted to the elf. Nessa turned to her becoming visible again and nodded then looked back at the state of Mina’s ‘home’.
The elf seemed to be on a mission to fix the place up and Mina could see no reason to stop her, she didn’t have anything better for Nessa to do, and it would be better if Nessa was busy so Mina would have time to concentrate on transcribing the recording. Putting in the headphones mina sat down on the only chair at the table and pulled out her note book. It was several hours later, after she had listened to the recording no less than six times when Nessa roused her from her world of plotting and scheming. The room Mina noticed looked nothing like it had before, Nessa had found and fix three more chairs and another table then removed three quarters of the legs and turned it into a bed, neatly made with two blankets set out in a smaller bed on the floor beside it. The windows which were covered by wood planks were now hidden behind dark coloured sheets that were strung up as curtains.
Nessa had a bowl of noodles made for Mina, and was looking quite proud of herself. Mina noticed that there was only one bowl and crossed her arms over her chest raising one eye brow. Nessa seeing the look pulled out another bowl and scooped a small bit out of the first one. Walking over and sitting on her new bed Mina reached out and grabbed the bowl with less in it and began eating. Stopping when she saw Nessa was staring at her not eating her food, Nessa took a quick bite of food and Mina went back to eating. The house elf was way too thin in Mina’s opinion she needed the food more right now. Finishing before Nessa, Mina moved over to Nessa’s makeshift bed on the floor and picked it up, watching as Nessa’s head dropped in rejection. Shaking off the anger that the look inspired in her Mina went about reordering the bed so the she had the outside and Nessa’s blankets were closest to the wall. The look of utter shock and happiness on Nessa’s face warmed a part of Mina that had been cold since the day her family had been killed. Not wanting to examine the feelings that seemed to strong to deal with right now Mina put her headphones back on pulled out a new canvas and began to paint. She always could think better while painting, and since Dizzy had sold half of the last batch already Mina figured she should begin another batch.
