woke the next day, not to the normal streams of light he was used to, but damp air and the scent of spices. His eyes blinked a few times, forgetting where he was for only a moment. He sat up and scanned the empty room, his heart falling. Draco was gone. Harry struggled to remember what day it was, and whether or not he was missing classes. Quidditch, he'd had practice yesterday, that meant that it was Saturday. Harry sighed and layed back in the plush bed, his body sliding comfortably between the silken sheets of Draco's bed. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he noted that he should probably get dressed and make his way upstairs. Those thoughts were pushed away by the more pressing ones, mainly wondering why Draco had left him alone. Had he done something wrong? The sound of nearing voices roused Harry from his contemplative state, and his heart began to race with panic. Quickly he dressed and searched for his cloak. He found it crumpled in a heap, and had just managed to pull it over him when the door opened. "No, Pansy, I'll be fine. Just tell one of the house-elves to bring me something to eat later. It's nothing to go to the infirmary over." Harry was pressed flush into the corner, feeling exposed despite the cloak covering him from view. He listened carefully, a snide girlish voice coming from outside the room. "Are you sure, Draco? I mean, I could keep you company..after all, you enjoyed it last time I stayed with you." Pansy let out a soft laugh, one that sent Harry's skin burning with anger. Just what exactly did she mean by it?Draco returned the laugh just as easily, and Harry could see the blonde's eyes were hooded, a smirk playing on his lips. "True enough, Pansy, but not today. I think some solitude will do me good." With that Draco winked and closed the door gently. Almost immediately he began scanning the room to see if Harry was still there. He was far too angry to keep the blonde wondering. He pulled off the cloak and stormed over towards the door, his eyes filled with fury. "Should I go so you can Pansy can have your fun now?" The blonde was taken by surprise at the anger, but only for a moment. His calm exterior slid into place, "I would think it would be obvious who I preferred to spend my time with, Potter." The use of his last name only made Harry more angry, and he clenched his fists tight enough to show the white of his knuckles. "Apparantly Pansy, after all, you enjoyed it last time." He mocked the girl's voice with the last of his words, spitting them out as though they were vile. Draco folded his arms defensively, "And how would you know what happened last time? How would you know whether or not I enjoyed it? Furthermore, how would you like it if I questioned all the time you've spent with Granger until now?" Draco had made several good points, not that it made any difference. Harry was still angry, though out of things to say. He stood before the Slytherin, shaking very faintly as he tried to calm himself down. Draco took the opportunity to explain, "One night, last year, Pansy approached me in the hallway as I was getting ready to go to bed. She came into my room, uninvited I might add, made several passes at me, and kissed me. I took the incident in stride, and was polite about turning her offers down, but not without accidentally giving her false hope. Since then, she's persistently asked me if we could pick up where we left off, and each time I give her one excuse or another. You just witnessed one of those excuses. Thank you, though, for insulting me instead of asking me what happened. That was a real treat." He handed Harry a bag that, until now, had gone unnoticed. "What's this?" Harry asked, the guilt riding in his stomach. "I brought you breakfast," Draco said quietly as he turned to make his bed. He seemed bent on not looking at Harry, avoiding the dark-haired teen's gaze as he moved about the room. "Draco, I'm sorry...I just-""You know, even if Pansy and I had done anything, what business of yours would it be? It was in the past, and you just witnessed me turn her down, so why should it matter? I don't assume that because you and Cho went snogging all around the castle that you're still involved with her." Harry nodded, "I know, it was stupid of me. I just got so angry thinking about you with someone else.."This time, Draco did meet Harry's gaze. He'd finished making his bed and was now picking up his discarded clothes from the night before. "And you don't think watching you with Cho last year didn't kill me every waking moment?" Draco took a shaky breath, tossing the garment in a hamper in one corner of the room. "You're surrounded by them, do you even realize it? You've got Granger as your best friend, you were swooning over Cho, you took Parvati to the Yule Ball."Harry blinked, realizing there were quite a few girls he'd come to spend time with during his time at Hogwarts. He sighed and shook his head, "I really hadn't noticed, actually. I don't see Hermione that way, and at any rate, she has eyes for Ron. Even I can see that. The idiot doesn't realize it, or the fact that he has eyes for her as well. As for Parvati, I would have rather asked Cho, but she'd already had a date at that point. Besides, what would you have me do? You hated me, from what I knew. Did you want me to ask you to the ball?"Draco didn't respond. Harry laughed lightly, "You did? In front of the whole school?" Draco's cheeks burned red, "Pansy waited until the very last minute to ask me, assuming I would have asked her first. I didn't say yes until I'd heard you were going with Parvati, and even then I didn't want to go at all. Watching you dance with her.."Harry laughed again, "I couldn't dance at all! Parvati practically lead me, and I'm sure I stepped on her more than once. But you still haven't answered my question, would you have wanted me to ask you?" Harry was astonished, to say the least. He'd thought that his relationship, if that's what it was, would have to be secret. Now, he wondered just how much of it he had to hide."I would have loved it," the blonde said softly, his voice wavering just a bit. Harry crossed the distance between them and reached one hand out, cupping the side of Draco's face gently. "If only I'd known," he whispered, pressing his lips gently against Draco's. The kiss was gentle, and soothing, washing away both boys fears and sadness in a heartbeat. Draco felt himself curl up against the other teen, seeking all the warmth he could attain. Harry obliged by wrapping his arms around him, holding him close. The kiss began to deepen, as Harry teasingly slid his tongue forward and traced the outline of Draco's lips. Desperate for affection, the blonde parted his lips and darting his own tongue out to massage gently over Harry's. Soft moans escaped their throats as both boys' excitement began to grow. It was then that the door opened."Draco, are you sure you wouldn't-" Pansy's words were cut off by a shrill scream as she caught the two boys together. Their kiss was broken quickly, looks of panic spread across their faces as they realized they'd been found out. 'Run,' Harry thought as he grabbed Draco's hand and ran as fast as he could past the screaming girl. Draco kept up the pace, both boys darting out of the dungeons just as Pansy's shrieks of what she'd seen began ringing through the halls. Harry snapped his head back and forth, wondering where they could go. There was no place to hide, now that they'd been discovered. The whole school would know in a matter of hours. "Hagrid's," Draco whispered. Harry nodded, knowing that his friend would most likely be out scouting the Dark Forest, tending to various needs. The hut would hopefully be empty. They raced out the giant double doors and down through the grounds. They passed by several students, each one uttering a shocked exclamation at seeing Harry and Draco holding hands. Most surprised would have to be Ron and Hermione, who they passed last as Harry and Draco reached the hut. Ron practically fell over at the sight, and Hermione yelled out to them, only increasing Harry's panic. He threw open the door and jumped inside, pulling Draco with him. They slammed the door and leaned back against it, panting for air. Harry slid down to the floor, hands buried into his hair, "They..saw us.." he gasped, his mind a blur from all the running. Draco knelt beside him, equally out of breath. "I meant it...when I said I'd wanted to go..to the ball with you." He took a deep breath, steadying himself, "Does it matter if the whole school sees us?" Harry's eyes rose to meet pale gray pools of beauty, deeper than the ocean. He breathed more easily now, his heart beginning to calm. After a moment's thought, he shook his head, "No, Draco..it doesn't matter. I just don't want to lose Ron or Hermione, they're my best friends." He rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands, "They're going to knock any moment now, you realize."Almost immediately there was a soft knock at the door. Hermione's voice rang out, "Harry? Are you alright?" Ron spoke up next, "What the bloody hell are you doing? Running around holding Malfoy's hand, have you gone mental??" Ron gave a yelp and cursed, Hermione having stomped on his foot, "Harry, please, open the door."Draco looked to Harry desperately, not wanting him to lose his friends either. "You could lie," he whispered, barely loud enough for Harry to hear,"Make up some story, anything, so you don't lose them." The blonde's offer was soothing, and Harry smiled sadly, "No, it's okay. Lying wouldn't be right to them, or to you." Harry rose, reaching out a hand to lift the blonde off of the floor. They stood side by side and each took a deep breath, hands still clasped as Harry threw open the door. He could barely meet Hermione's gaze. "Come on in, guys...we've got a lot to talk about."
