Prologue: ‘Twas a Dark and Stormy Night...

The wind whipped through the trees viciously as the three figures on horse-back pressed on further.
“The storm worsens!” The smallest hollered out over the deafening winds. “We have no choice! We must find shelter!”
“The last shelter we saw was over a mile back!” added the next shortest, leaning into the wind, ignoring the rain that stung like a thousand nails. “There’s nothing out here! We’ll DIE if we don’t get out of the rain!” The tallest thought a moment, then silently slapped its horse on the flank, causing it to take off to the north. The other two followed, wondering what their leader had in mind.
“The Professor has always been kind to us...” the leader said just loud enough for the others to hear. “...Surely he will not begrudge us a place to stay while we rest and recharge.” Just then, an enormous castle came into view. “I just hope he remembers us...”
