Hogwarts: The Path of the Chosen Ones
Chapter Nine
Broomstick Practice
December Snow
The next morning started off well. All 7 of us Chosen Ones ate breakfast with Ron, Harry and Hermione. It felt so good to have all of my friends back together, especially Daniel. When he left, it just felt like I had to have him back; like my life depended on it. It was strange and I didn't want to feel like that again. I watched as Harry would glance from time to time at Christian. Christian would either smile softly at him or not even respond at all. Harry was confounded by this. “Uh, December?” I looked into Harry's eyes. “W-what's wrong with Winter Rain? She's not herself today.” I turned my gaze to where Harry was looking. After watching Christian for a little while longer, I smiled and nodded. She was taking my advice. “Nope, she's herself, all right.” I reassured him. “Maybe you just need some time to get used to this side of her.” Harry just kept staring and I smiled inwardly.
“December, what are your classes today?” Daniel asked me. When I told him that I had Charms first, he seemed pleased. “I have that class too. We'll be together.” I smiled, joyfully then felt Harry put his hand on my shoulder. “I'll be in Charms as well. Maybe I can help you and Nightfire if you need it.” My grin couldn't have been any wider. This was so awesome! I would have never expected to have anybody in my class with me. This day was so starting to look up.
Sunstar
“Bloody hell! Did you see the ass on that one?” I looked over quickly to where Ron was pointing. It was a brunette and she was, I had to admit, pretty nice and her ass was favorable. I gave a chuckle as I shook my head at what we were doing. In the short time that I spent here in Hogwarts, I found that I liked hanging out with Ron. He was like me somewhat. Shameless at times, quiet at others but all around he was a pretty straightforward guy. “Yeah, she does have a nice ba-dunk.” I said, nodding. Ron frowned and asked, “What's a ba-dunk?” I paused from drinking my pumpkin juice and looked at him in confusion. He was clueless about it? “Aw, Red. You really don't know?”
Before I could say anything, Hermione who was sitting across from me and Ron sighed. “A ba-dunk, also called a ba-dunk-ka-dunk is also known as the buttocks. Honestly, Ronald. Don't you watch television?” We were all shocked into silence and seeing our faces, Hermione blushed. “Wow. Go, Hermione.” I heard Brittney say. We all nodded in agreement and I looked at Ron who was face was quickly turning to the color of bright red. “It's an American thing, dude.” I pat his back. Ron sat with his elbows on the table and grumbled, “Well, excuse me.” I laughed at his embarrassment.
The bell rung and we got up to leave. As we picked up our books and other things, I said to Ron, “Don't worry. By the end of this year, I'll have you fluent in American language and culture.” Ron grimaced. “You don't have to bother. I want whatever is left of my brain in there. Ba-dunk-ka-dunk. Who the hell thought of that one?”

“I didn't know all three of them were going to be in here with us.” I whispered to Daniel in Charms. He shrugged. “Well, there they are. That's the proof.” We stared at Harry, Ron and Hermione who were sitting in front of us, just chatting away. With my ears which were now highly sensitive, I could hear almost everything, which was great. Students were talking about different charms, about boys and girls they liked and anything and everything else. “So what's on the agenda for today, guys?” Harry asked, turning around to look at Daniel and myself. I beamed and answered, “ We have broomstick practice this afternoon.” Harry grinned and replied, “ I remember my first broomstick practice. Worked well for me…but not too much for Ron and Mione.” He chuckled and we looked at the now clearly irritated Hermione and Ron. “Shuddap, Harry.” Ron's face was beet red. Hermione sighed and rolled her eyes.
I began to laugh when I heard, “What kind of protectors are these Chosen Ones if they can't even fly from the start?” I could tell by the sneering quality of the voice that it came from Draco Malfoy. I didn't even need to look back to know it was him. Man, I barely knew this guy and he was already gnawing at my nerves. My blood began to boil as he continued, “They aren't even worth being here. “ Harry glared as well as Ron and Hermione. Daniel began to frown as well. I on the other hand was waiting patiently for him to stop and be quiet. The patience didn't last long as I heard the last comment he made.
“Some Chosen Ones…”
Enraged, I stood up, whirling around quickly and banging my hands loudly on the table where he was sitting at beside another boy. The room became slightly quiet and I could hear my heart thundering in my ears. Malfoy, who was strangely quiet, stared up at me with a scowl. “ Listen here, you audacious prick!” I hissed out. “ We may not have been here very long, but we are more than qualified to protect Hogwarts! I know I am and Fire is too. We can defeat any monster or demon who dares to show his face here." Daniel nodded in agreement but Malfoy scoffed. “Yeah, right.” I could feel the ice forming at the edge of my fingers and I said loudly “I know that I can prove my powers by freezing somebody's mouth shut!” Knowing that I meant him, Malfoy stood up slowly and met my gaze with boldness. “I'd like to see you try it!” He challenged, gripping his wand. Our faces were so close, our noses were almost touching. I shook my head slowly. Oh, how I wanted to lay onto him and beat him down! I began to raise my hand and power up.
In the next moment, I felt Daniel behind me, his hands gripping my arms tight. He looked down into my eyes urging me to make the right decision. “Not here. Don't waste your powers, December, on trash like him.” Malfoy glared. “Trash? Maybe I didn't hear that right, Fire-ass!” Daniel let go of me gently and took a step forward growling, “Don't you underestimate who you are talking to, snake boy. You don't scare me.” Before Malfoy could say another word, Ron pointed at the door exclaiming, “The professor is coming! Sit down, you two!” After confirming Ron's words, I turned to look back into Malfoy's eyes. He glared once more. “So, what are you going to do?” He asked, voice deepening. I rolled my eyes slowly and took my seat. His time would come later. Then I picked up my quill and began to work.
Summer Rose
I walked out of Herbology followed by other students. Every other boy I saw stared at me with heated looks and I could just feel my excitement rise. Who knew the wizarding world had so many good looking men? As I walked to my next class which was Transfiguration, I saw Brittney coming out what looked to be Charms. “Hey, December!” I yelled, starting to run towards her. She saw me and slowed down for me to catch up. When I did get close to my cousin, I frowned, immediately seeing her normally light blue eyes now a dark sapphire color. She was pissed. “What's got you so mad?” I whispered to her.
“Draco Malfoy.” she hissed.
“Oh. What happened?”
Brittney growled with rage and I took a step back. When Brittney got mad, it was not something you wanted to be around for. Brittney noticed and smiled saying, “Get back up here, girl! Don't you want to hear what happened or what?” I giggled, leaping back up to her pace. “Well, I didn't want you beating up on me for nothing!” She shook her head. “Believe me. It's not you I want to beat down. I almost got in a fight with that boy earlier. If Daniel hadn't stopped me, I definitely would have frozen his balls off.”
I burst out laughing and my cousin managed a smirk and a chuckle. “Well, what an ass. I mean, what kind of a guy would really try to fight a girl?” Brittney stopped suddenly and sighed deeply. I stopped as well, confused and put a hand on her shoulder. “What?” Then I heard her soft words in my head.
`Amber, this may sound crazy but, I think he is so wonderful.'
`Huh? But you just said you wanted to beat him down!'
Brittney eyed me as we kept walking to our next classes. I knew that she wanted keep this conversation private so we had to talk this way. I looked at the other people around us and then looked back at her.
“Well?”
`He has the most beautiful gray eyes and he is just so…so..so…powerful.' I nodded and watched as she crossed her arms scowling, `But that doesn't mean anything when your attitude is wack.' I shrugged. I had never seen Draco Malfoy before so I had to go by whatever she was saying. `He is cruel, arrogant, foul mouthed and his head is so big I don't know how he can balance it on his head.' I let a laugh go loose and Brittney giggled saying, `But still…' She looked at me.
`I like him. So please, don't tell anybody.'
I glanced up at her and knew by her appealing eyes that she meant it. “I promise. These words won't come out of anybody's mouth but yours.” She smiled and we hugged. Everybody has some kind of attraction to somebody whether they are evil or not. But it's up to the person to take the first step. I just hoped Brittney would take that step and soon.
Draco Malfoy
I tried to control my breathing as I strolled out of Charms, seeing December's blue hair in front of me. She had turned around and glared at me. I took deep breath but couldn't help a shiver that came out. That defiant glare. That beautiful icy glare. I didn't understand her. She had the frozen cold demeanor of a Slytherin but also the raging hot courage of a Gryffindor. How did that work out? I didn't know, but I liked it! Immediately I could see myself in the bed with her, kissing her all over.
Blinking out of my daydream, Blaise suddenly came up beside me and said, “Bloody hell! That was her, wasn't it?” I nodded. Blaise had been sitting next to me in Charms. “Yep. She's unmistakable.” Blaise pat my shoulder and said, “Dude, she looked like she was going to beat the shit out of you!” I smiled, remembering the ferocity in her eyes as she yelled at me. But just to cover myself, I frowned. “What the fuck ever. She wouldn't have laid a hand on me. Ice powers or not. I'm champion of the dueling club, remember?” Blaise scoffed, fixing his robe. “No you're not. You're second. Pothead is champion.”
“You know what, Zabini? You don't have to tell me that all the time. I'm your friend. Humor me now and again.”
Blaise took a moment to think about what I was saying. “Oh. Well then, yeah. You're champion all right.” I nodded and we walked in silence for a little bit until Blaise opened his mouth again. “Dude, she was fucking hot! If you don't bang her soon, then I will!” I could feel my cheeks grow hot and I glared at Blaise. “Shut up, dick-fucker! What the hell makes you think I would fuck a hellcat bitch like her?” I asked him but at the same time, secretly hoping it would happen. My mind then froze. I knew then that she was having some kind of a effect on me and I told myself I couldn't let it show. It was too risky. Unfortunately Blaise saw the change of expression in my eyes and exclaimed, “You know you want her. You can tell me, Shitface. I don't care if you have a thing for a Gryffindor. In fact, I'd get in the bed with every last one of the Chosen Ones if I had the chance!”
I rolled my eyes with inner knowing. “You're such a fucking perv, Zabini.” We turned the corner to our next class as Blaise smiled arrogantly. “Yeah, yeah. It takes one to know one, so you know what? Don't even tell me . I already know.” I smirked and as we went into Transfiguration I said, “If I ever get December Snow into my bed, you'd be the first person to know.” Blaise grinned then from ear to ear and put his head up with pride.
“That's right!” I laughed.

Darkshadow
A little after noon, we walked out into the courtyard, each with a broomstick in our hands. It was time to learn how fly and somehow I knew in my heart that I was going to blow this practice. “Cheer up, Shadow! We're going to have so much fun.” I looked over to see Amber strolling past me. I smiled uneasily at her and she continued, “It will be just like a roller coaster.” Amber giggled and I frowned looking at my broom.
Roller coaster, huh? I guess I could give it a good try.
We came up to the middle of the courtyard and stopped in front of a guy who was already standing there waiting for us. “Hey, Chosen Ones. My name is Oliver Wood and I am the Hogwarts coach. My job is to teach you how to fly on a broomstick but my question to you is are you ready to be taught?” I nodded as well as the rest of the group but Michael raised his hand and asked, “This might sound stupid, but what do we need to learn to fly for? Don't we just need to fight the demon?” Oliver nodded and answered, “It's for many reasons actually, Sunstar. For whenever you need to travel long distances quickly, to get away from danger when it happens suddenly and of course…to play Quidditch.” Brittney gasped with joy and asked, “We really get to play too?” Oliver nodded and smiled as well all looked at each other with excitement. I knew I wanted to play right away. I loved sports and Quidditch, I knew, was a new challenge. I had to get this right.
“First things first though. Get on the left side of your broom stick.”
We followed Oliver's instructions and waited at the side patiently. Oliver smiled and then said, “Now, put your right hand over your broom and with tremendous feeling say “up.”
I put my hand over my broom, said the magic word and almost fell over as the broom levitated right into it. I guess it didn't take too much feeling for us Chosen Ones to get the brooms up. Everybody had them in their hands. Oliver seemed pleased. “Good. Very good, Chosen Ones. Now get on your broomsticks and sort of hover off the ground by pushing off with your feet. I pushed off with a deep breath then felt myself going higher and higher. I was doing it! I was flying on my broomstick! I have to tell you, it was an awesome feeling. The wind blew my hair back gently and the altitude was so far up. Oliver looked like a ant from where I was. “Shadow! Come back down here, you're too high!”
Oh. Whoops! I guess was a little too high after all. But still I did it. Smugly, I made my descent.
Autumn Jade
After a while we came back down and noticed that a student; a prefect talking to Oliver. Oliver nodded as the prefect whispered in his ear then said, “ Pardon me, guys. The headmaster has requested my presence right now. Just keep practicing until I come back.” We nodded and watched as he walked off saying, “Not too high!” We got on our broomsticks after he left and started flying again. This flying thing wasn't so hard. I could fly like an ace. I stopped my broom and looked at how everybody else was doing. Christian, Amber and Andrew were going along slowly and Michael was clenching his broom with fear. “Calm down, Michael! Just relax and balance.” I called out to him. Michael nodded and smiled at me with clenched teeth.
A roaring sound came behind me and I ducked as Brittney and my brother sailed over my head, laughing loudly and whooping. It seemed that they were aces too. “Yeah! Race on, guys!” I yelled, cheering them on. It was right then and there at that moment that my broomstick suddenly turned around and began moving
When I didn't tell it to!
“What? Oh, no! Stop!” I yelled, trying to get control. It was futile and I screamed in fear as the broomstick went straight up into the air. “Help me!” What was going on?
December Snow
Hearing Charity's scream, I looked up. “What is Charity screaming about?” Daniel and I stopped our broomsticks and Daniel looked up as well. Then he frowned and said, “She's probably just playing around, Bit. Don't worry about her. I nodded but my leader qualities came over me and I decided to use my vision to see her closer. I frowned with worry seeing Charity's eyes full of tears. “No, she's not, Bubby! Her broomstick's not working right!” Daniel frowned with worry. “What's wrong with it?” He asked as we watched Charity fly everywhere out of her control. She went up and down, looping around and once she almost fell off. We had to do something to stop it. STOP. “Charity, stop your broom with your powers!” I yelled.
Autumn Jade
Why didn't I think of that? “Stop broom!” I yelled, extending my powers out. It obeyed, stopping short quickly. I sighed in relief then gasped as I realized where I had exactly stopped. I must have been very high because I could see over the castle. Even my friends looked like ants…and they were still in the air! I stared down with my eyes wide in terror. Coach Wood was going to be furious. Forget that! I needed to take care of myself! “Charity, don't move! We are going to try to get you down.” I heard Brittney yell up at me. Her voice was smooth and calming. I felt my heart, which was beating like a snare drum finally start to calm down. Yeah, I could count on my friends to help me.
Nightfire
“So what do we do now?” I asked looking at the stationary broom above us. We sat there thinking and I noticed that we only had so much time. “Quick, you guys! Ideas!” I exclaimed.
“I could make a ice ladder.” I looked at Brittney and shook my head.
“No. We might freeze our hands if we try to hold the ladder steady and Charity might freeze herself cause she's already at high altitude.”
“But, we have to do something!”
“Yeah, I know that, Bit! Calm down.” Now it was my turn to be the leader. We sat there in silence even though Charity's whimpers rang in my ears. The urge to protect my sister was coming out strong and I knew I had to find a way. An idea finally came to me and I looked over at Michael saying, “Mike, I'm really going to need your help.” Michael nodded and said, “Whatever you need, Fire Leader.” I blushed a little at my formal title but then looked up at Charity and cupped my hands over my mouth and said, “Charity! I'm going to need you to listen to me. You need to jump off.” Charity gasped and chuckled yelling, “You are out of your mind, Daniel! You must be. Do you see how high up I am? Oh, no. Uh Uh. I'm not doing that!” I took a breath. She was going to make this more difficult than it had to be. “Come on, Charity! You have to work with us! How else are you going to get down? We can't fly up to get you, can we?” Charity looked at me then shook her head. She was scared. Shit, I would have been too!
“Who is going to catch me?”
“Michael. Don't worry, Charity. Everything will be all right.”
Charity glanced at me with her jade eyes and then looked at Michael. I did too, trying to will him to do the right thing. He understood and stood under the broom. “Charity! Trust me, okay? I will catch you. Okay?” He yelled up at her. She sat up there for a while, breathing hard but then situated her self and said, “Yeah. I trust you. I'm ready.” Michael and I looked at each other and when he nodded I said, “Now! Jump now, Charity!” My sister closed her eyes, took a deep breath and slid off. I held my own breath as I watched my sister plummet towards the earth. I glanced quickly over at Michael who had his arms ready. “Don't let me down, dude!” Michael growled with determination. “I got this, Dan!” I swallowed hard, putting my complete faith in him.
Next thing I knew, everything went by in a blur of yellow and orange. A grunt of pain came to my ears and I opened my eyes that I had closed. What I saw made my heart swell with happiness. Michael was lying on the ground with Charity safely in his arms. Her face was buried in his neck and I could tell that she was crying. “Charity, it's all right. I caught you didn't I ?” Michael asked, petting her back. His voice was soft in our ears and it slowly brought us back to the present.. We ran over to them and Christian pulled Charity into a hug.
“Are you okay, Charity?”
“Yeah.”
Brittney smiled in relief and kneeled down stroking her hair. “Wow, that must have been scary, huh?” She asked with awe like expression. Charity nodded as I helped Michael up saying, “Thanks, dude.” My face felt as stoic as ever but I knew he knew how I felt. He gave me a lopsided grin. “Anytime.”
“Why did that broomstick do that?” We looked at Andrew, then followed his gaze to the sky. Suddenly a voice called out, “What's going on, Chosen Ones? Why are you not practicing?” It was Oliver. Maybe he knew what was going on.
Autumn Jade
I swear I saw my life flash in front of my eyes when I jumped from that broomstick. I deeply respected Michael now for what he did for me. Being a hero takes a lot of bravery and Michael showed it. Wiping my eyes, I stood up with the others and watched as my brother explained to Oliver what had happened in the thirty minutes he was gone. Oliver frowned and replied, “Sounds like your broom was hexed.”
Hexed?
We all looked at each other with worry and Brittney stepped forward asking, “Who would do that?” Who indeed? I didn't have any enemies yet. Oliver put his hand behind his head explaining, “Well, sometimes the 7th years like to pull pranks on the 1st and 2nd years. It's terrible to do this to the broomsticks…but it happens." I hugged my arms and sighed. If that was meant to be a joke, it wasn't funny. I could have lost my life and now somebody's laughing about it. Oliver then told us to go back to the castle and he said that he would go to the headmaster about it. As we walked back to the common room, Daniel was fuming. “What kind of an asshole…?” Brittney came up beside him, petting his back. “I know, Bub. I know.”
Michael wasn't in any better shape. “Don't these people know that we have to protect them? Some gratitude they have for us!” I was silent because something told me that this wasn't just some rude prank. Something dark and evil was involved.

December Snow
The sky was a dark blue blanket and the time was about 9:00. We had already had a wonderful dinner and we did our homework together; a habit we did back home. Now we sat around like Chosen bumps on logs waiting to drift off to sleep. Some of us were already in bed. I wasn't tired, however I was damn near bored out of my mind. I sat in one of the common room's comfy red chairs, sighing. “December Snow, care to play?” Harry stood in front of me with a black box. I looked at it, curiously. “What is it?” Harry smirked and opened the box answering, “Wizard's Chess.”
Chess? Ew.
“Oh, no. Thanks Harry, but I'm not a chess player.” Harry frowned then asked, “Why? Is it because you don't know how to play or because you don't like it?” I nodded in agreement. “Pick one.” Harry shrugged as he stared to walk off. “Okay, you can be a chicken if you want, Ice Leader. I understand.” His voice was sing-song: teasing. I slowly stood up from my spot, sighing deeply. “All right, I'll do it. But afterwards, you better not call me a chicken no more, you got that?” Harry smiled. “Deal.”
We sat at a table near one of the eastern windows. “What color, December?”
“White. Black is for losers, so you can have that one.”
“You sure are confident for someone who hasn't played before.”
I rolled my eyes and retorted, “Whatever. Just set up the game.” Harry chuckled and began setting each of the pieces on the squares they were assigned to. I could already feel my eyes began to droop just watching him do that. “Wake up or I'll beat you, chicken.” Harry stated, eyes still on the board. I sat up and when he finished said, “Okay let's do it.” Harry then began telling me where what piece goes to and how to play the game. To tell the truth, I didn't hear a word he was saying except for the whole “checkmate” thing. But I wasn't going to let Harry know that. We began to play.
An hour later, I smiled as I had checkmated Harry for the third time in a row. Fate had smiled on me. “How are you doing that, December Snow?” He sighed out. I shrugged and started putting up the pieces. Or the broken pieces of the pieces that used to be there. “Reparo.” Harry said, putting his wand on the board. Instantly the board became whole and I crossed my hands together saying, “See, you are a loser.” Harry looked at me sarcastically and said, “You were just lucky.” I got up and walked to my dorm saying, “ I guess. Good night, Loser.”
Harry Potter
I smiled and watched the victorious blue haired Chosen One walk off. “Goodnight, December. Have great dreams of victory.” December smirked and said before going up the stairs, “Oh, I will.” After she walked off, I stared out the window and started to think. Other than the whole Voldemort battle I had to train for, I also wanted to catch the eye of somebody very special. Rain was something. Something special. I wanted to woo her. To be with her. She wasn't the same hyper upbeat child that I thought she was at first. Now she was calmer and to me calmer meant better. She began to look more sexy in my eyes. I had to have her. December could help me get aquainted with her. She was more mature than most to the Chosen One girls and the girls in Gryffindor. I could ask Hermione to help me first but she would have said, “Harry, it's not right to be with a girl that is 4 years younger than you are. It's not proper.” I didn't need that. December was the one that I knew could help me. I began to think my plan out right then and there.
