Hogwarts: The Path of the Chosen Ones
Chapter Eight
Frozen Eyes

December Snow
I marched persistently back and forth inside the common room. The tour was great. In fact it was wonderful but now that we were back in our house, reality of the sortings came rushing back towards me in full force. Oblivious to my actions, the rest of my friends were content. Hermione sat by the window, studying, Charity was reading a book with Christian, Michael was lightly dozing by the fire and Amber was playing chess with Ron. They were not worried in the least.

Harry finally noticed me and said, “Uh, December? You're going to burn a hole in the carpet if you don't stop.” I glanced at Harry and then clenched my hands into fists as I whirled around and exclaimed, “What the hell is wrong with you guys? Two of our fellow Chosen Ones are Slytherins and it's like you don't even care!”

Yawning and sitting up, Michael raised a lazy eyebrow at me. “What can we do, December? The Sorting Hat chose that.” Angered over the brim, I lashed out at Michael. “Not good enough!” Michael shrugged and I looked at the others. “He's right, December. There's nothing we can do.” I heard Christian say as she was reading her book.

Hearing enough, I sighed and walked to the door. Hermione frowned and asked, “Where are you going?” I froze for a second, not really wanting to tell her my business just yet. We weren't that good of friends. “I'm going for a walk. I need some fresh air.” Hermione was appalled. “You can't December Snow. It's after hours and…” I wasn't hearing it. “And the headmaster did say that we Chosen Ones were like prefects, remember? I'll do my job. Maybe there will be a demon I can fight in the hallway.” With that comment, all of the other Chosen Ones looked at me in question. I shook my head. As I started to walk off again, Harry came in front of me. “You want me to go with you?” I held my hand up, shaking my head quickly. “No, I'll be okay.” My friends seemed convinced.

They went back to their businesses as Harry smiled and came closer. I looked up at him and heard him whisper, “So what are you really up to?” At first I was surprised but then said, “So you caught on, huh?” He nodded curtly and I said, “You'll see.” Harry was silent and I left saying, “See ya.”

I just couldn't believe it. Why after all of heroism that Dumbledore had proclaimed were inside of us, did the Sorting Hat put them in Slytherin? I didn't understand it. Daniel wasn't dark and evil. He was just a loner who always kept to himself. Andrew could be a badass sometimes but he always knew what was right in the end. I wandered around Hogwarts, knowing that I should have been in the common room, but Dumbledore did say that we Chosen Ones were like prefects, so why couldn't I walk around like all the other prefects?

“I have to do something about this…” I mumbled going around the corner. In doing so, I blindly bumped right into someone. We both begin to fall backwards but with my agility, I got up and grabbed the person's hand trying to make sure he or she didn't fall either. I smiled sheepishly and said, “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to…” The person's face made me stop.

I stared in the frozen cold eyes. I had heard about Draco Malfoy and now that I was face to face, I was not impressed. “Why don't you watch where you are going, student?” He hissed at me. I glared and replied brassy, “Why don't you? You have two eyes as well as I do!” His eyes widened and his mouth opened in shock. I smiled slightly. I guess he thought that I wasn't going to talk back. Well, he had another thing coming! He didn't know me very well. After he got over his shock, he got in my face and asked, “What is your name, student?” I took a step back, resisting the urge of putting my finger under my nose. Bad breath was definitely not a turn-on. Somebody must have had a bunch of onions at the feast. Then I answered, “December Snow. I'm one of the Chosen Ones. ” Malfoy opened his mouth to speak, but I held up my hand saying also, “I already know who you are. So don't give me the pleasure of introducing yourself.”

For a moment he stood there, transfixed as if he had nothing to say. He stared into my eyes as if he was trying to figure out who I really was. Then he crossed his arms and said, “Don't you need to be in your common room?' I blinked. This boy was really picking at my nerves today. He smirked arrogantly. “I can be out here if I want to! The headmaster said that we Chosen Ones are like prefects and anyway, I have something I need to do.” I retorted. I came up closer to him and said, “So if you don't mind, take your shitty ass attitude and move out of my way.” For a moment Malfoy looked like he wanted to tackle me and beat the mess out of me. As if he was reading my mind, he came up to me angrily and said, “How dare you talk to me like that? I'll…”

I lifted up my hand quickly, showing him my bright blue ice powers and said boldly, “You'll do nothing. I'll freeze you before you even land the blow on me.” Malfoy looked fearful for a moment but then said, “Did you know you can't use magic against other students at Hogwarts in any place other than the dueling ring? You could get kicked out.” We stood in a stalemate each knowing that the other person was right in his or her own way.

Frigid sky blue eyes stared right over into glacial light gray eyes. We both had the ability to freeze each other with our stares by the intensity of how we were glaring. I then sighed, put down my hand and said, “I'm finished. I don't have time to be messing with little boys like you. You understand.” Malfoy blinked in silence and I walked away gently bumping in to his shoulder.

“Brainless little…yeti.”

Stunned, I stopped in mid-step. I knew that a yeti was. A yeti was like an abominable snowman. So he wanted to play games and call me names, huh? I discreetly lowered my right hand to behind my back and pointed at the ground, making a small patch of ice. I knew my target was right when I heard Malfoy's yell of surprise and grunt of pain. I turned my head, seeing him trying to get up but was unsuccessful, falling again and again. Feeling proud of myself for making the pure-blood prince fall flat on his face, I turned another corner and walked towards Dumbledore's office. I smiled seeing the beautiful regal gold gargoyle statue and started running towards it. But as soon as I got there, I realized that I didn't even know the password. “Shit.” I whispered in disappointment, wondering how I was going to get in now.

I had sat down on a block like bump and was sulking to myself for a while when suddenly I realized that I was moving upwards. The bump I was on was the stairway going up to the office without me even saying the password.

“Prodigious!”

I jumped up in happiness and started throwing my arms up in the air. Maybe things were going to go my way after all.
When the stairs stopped, I walked into Professor Dumbledore's office seeing him sitting behind his claw-footed desk and reading a piece of parchment. As I strolled up, he eyed me knowingly.

“Ah, December Snow. I have been expecting you to come.” I stopped and frowned in confusion. Oh, of course! No wonder the stairs had moved. Dumbledore already knew. Darn him and his psychic abilities! I stared for a while, watching him from across the room. He smirked, apparently waiting for me to say something. “Yes?” I came over slowly, going over in my head how I was going to tell him my problem. Dumbledore soon broke the ice by saying, “I think tonight went very well, don't you, December?” I blinked then looked down at the ground saying, “Hmmm…” The headmaster sat back in his seat behind his desk and put his hands together. “I trust you didn't like the sortings?” I sighed. This was my chance to tell him straight up.

“Professor, I think that the Sorting Hat has made a mistake of choosing Daniel and Andrew's house. I believe that since we are all Chosen Ones who, if what you say are all destined to save the wizarding world, should all be in Gryffindor. Especially Daniel, who is one of the Chosen One leaders other than myself. How is he supposed to be a leader if he is not even here to lead? The hat, I'm sorry to say has discriminated against Daniel and Andrew's appearances.” The Sorting Hat, which was on top of a ledge in the office, countered, “I did not, young lady. I was precisely right in my decision. You just don't like it.” I frowned and stuck my tongue out at the hat, which blew raspberries back at me. I then crossed my arms and looked at Dumbledore for help.

Professor Dumbledore raised his eyebrow and started at me with a piercing knowing stare, but I stood stock still in my spot unmoved. His eyebrow was not going to faze me! Dumbledore got up, came closer to me and asked, “Are you saying this because you think it's the right decision or are you saying this because YOU want it to be this way?” Taken back a bit, I looked down in thought. I didn't think of trying to lie, because somehow I knew Dumbledore would know. So I just told him the truth.
“Both. I think as the Fire Leader, Daniel should be with the rest of the Chosen Ones but I myself want Andrew to be with us. I trust him to do his duty and I think you should too.”

“Humph.”

The hat huffed in annoyance then he glanced at the headmaster and said, “Albus, tell this impudent girl that she cannot change the ways of Hogwarts. The sorting has been a tradition forever and I'll be damned if a little ice woman comes in and changes everything.” I could feel my eyes ice up in resentment. “Hey! I'm just trying to do what's right! Andrew is not evil because if he were, he wouldn't even be anywhere near us! He deserves to be with us and I'LL be damned if you keep my best friend separated from me!” My eyes softened and I looked at Dumbledore .

“So please…don't keep my friends away from me. From all of us. We're a team-Chosen Ones or not.”

For a while it was just silence. Dumbledore stared at me, the Sorting Hat stared at me and I just stared back and forth to both of them. Dumbledore finally sighed and said, “All right. I will accept your explanation and grant you your request.” My heart could not have been more happy! “Yes! Thank you so much professor!” I exclaimed, jumping up and down excitedly.
“But…”

I froze. There was a but. I glanced up at him. “You have to keep an eye on them. Two if possible. They are both borderline between Darkness and Light. Darkshadow has the most darkness inside of him; given his power. But I believe you can snap them into Gryffindor shape…Uh, can you?” I nodded quickly. “Yes, sir! I promise I will keep an eye out for them. I'll even have the other's help out too.” Dumbledore gave me his approval and I left the office, giving the hat one last satisfied look. Things were going to be fine now. I was going to see to it. We were going to save Hogwarts together, pass classes, have new friends…and even, new enemies.
************

Draco Malfoy
A little after the confrontation with the “Ice Leader”, I rushed into my common room angrily, my eyes burning with irate fire. Most of my housemates and friends stared at me in question and when some of them asked what my problem was, I growled viciously, warning them to butt out. My housemates rapidly gave me my space and I stormed upstairs to my dorm. I slammed the door and stomped to my bed, hearing the slight creaks as I flopped down on it. After breathing deep for a while to calm myself, I began to sulk.

December Snow. Who did that bitch think she was? Embarrassing me like that in the hallway. Me! Draco Malfoy! Did she not know that I had the power to hurt her badly? To intimidate her? To insult her until she had no dignity left? I was a Slytherin and believe it or not, that was right up my alley! `Just wait til I see her again…' I looked outside thinking in silence. December Snow wasn't like other girls. They just didn't get me angry like she did. Maybe it was her mouth and her sharp tongue, or maybe it was her defiant azure eyes. When she looked at me tonight, she just knew nothing could be done to her. I growled as I knew who she reminded me of. Granger. But this time I couldn't call her Mudblood. With those powers, she had to be pure.

The door to my dorm suddenly opened and I glared up at the intruder. “Hey, shitface. What's up with you?” My best friend, Blaise Zabini asked, coming up to my bed. “Nothing. Go away, Zabini.” I mumbled, not really in the mood to talk. “Don't lie to me, Malfoy. You look like you've had somebody put a stick up your ass.” I rolled my eyes as his choice of words as he ordered, “So spill it.” He leaned against the canopy rail waiting for me to start talking. I just stared at my comforter thinking, wondering if I could trust Blaise enough for some of the things that I told him. He could be at sometimes the greatest friend, giving me the best advice he had to offer, but at other times…he was a complete asshole. Quickly, I made my decision to trust him today. “While I was patrolling the castle, I ran into a Chosen One.” Impressed, Blaise's eyes widened. “Ooh, was it male or female?”

“Female.”

“Which color hair did she have?” I glanced up at Blaise and frowned in confusion. What the hell was he talking about?

“What? Color?”

“Yeah.” Blaise nodded. “They are all different, you know.” I shook my head to cease his stupid words. “Anyway, I ran into December Snow near the Gryffindor common room…” Blaise stopped me again. “Which Chosen One girl is that? The one with the white hair color?”

“No! Stop interrupting me, you ass!

“At least tell me what color her hair is!”

“Blue!”

With that being said, Blaise looked up and nodded slowly saying, “Ah…okay. I gotcha now.” I just stared at him in mild shock. Blaise was a nut case in my book and definitely needed St. Mungo's to save a room for him. That much was sure. I wanted to get on with my story so I went on. “When I started to get on her about being out too late at night, she just exploded at me; telling me she had a right to be there, having attitude, and she even made me fall on my bum!” That was clear and I rubbed my ass just to make sure that it wasn't too sore.

Blaise's eyes became wide in surprise. “How did she do that? Trip you?” I closed my eyes slowly, wishing it was that. Otherwise, I wouldn't have felt so embarrassed. “She made me slip on a piece of ice she had made.” I sighed and looked up at my friend, hoping to have some kind of sympathy. Nope. Not from Zabini. Blaise was cracking up laughing. Enraged, I threw a pillow at his face. Blaise let it hit him and kept laughing. I smirked. Nothing could keep this boy down.

“Bloody hell! All of that in one night? What a woman.”

I scoffed.

“If you ask me, she's too much woman. For being only 15, she sure makes an impression on herself.”

Suddenly I felt a warming in my heart and softly confessed, “Those eyes froze me from the moment I saw them. They were…pure ice.” There was silence and I looked up to see Blaise staring down at me with his jaw to the ground. “What?” I asked, eyes darting back and forth.

“Dude, I don't think you heard what you just said. It seems to me that you don't have your priorities straight about this girl.”

I asked him to repeat what I just said and when he did, I could feel myself blanching in slight fear and disgust. Was I attracted to this girl? I couldn't be. “I don't like December Snow.” I reassured myself and Blaize. “Her eyes were just cool looking.” Blaise chuckled and said, “Yeah, right. Just keep telling yourself that, Malfoy and when you find your ass in the bed fucking that girl, you let me know.” I rolled my eyes at his comment and asserted, “Not going to happen. Now, I'm going to go take a shower and I trust you know how to let yourself out right, Zabini?” Blaise, who was now lying on my bed on his back said, “Yeah, yeah, I'll be out of your room by the time your naked ass gets out.” I chuckled and started grabbing my things to go to the prefects' bathroom. As I went to my door, I turned and called, “Blaise.” He looked up at me in question.

“This conversation better not leave my room. It better stay private if you want to keep your balls.”

Blaise shooed me away, telling me that all was well. I walked out of the door and to the bathroom to get some much needed relief from the calming warm water of the showers. As I walked, I saw the ember like eyes of the Chosen One named Nightfire. The fire like quality of his eyes were freaky. I glared at him and to my surprise he glared right back. He didn't need to be here. I could tell by his attitude and the other one that they weren't Slytherins. I went towards the door only to be stopped by two other prefects. “The headmaster wants the two Chosen Ones. They are to be relocated.” I looked over just as the two started walking off. I knew that it was going to happen. They were outcasts here anyway.

Darkshadow
Daniel and I followed the two prefects to the picture of the fat lady. Right away I knew where we were.
“Password?”
“Golden Courage.” One said, in a monotonous voice. The picture opened and we were given a glance of the common room's cozy red furniture. “This is your new house. The same rules apply that were given to you in the Slytherin house. Good luck, Chosen Ones and have a great year.” We said our goodbyes and went into the room slowly, seeing Brittney come around the corner with her dress flowing around her ankles. She grinned and right away we knew this was all her doing. “It's about time.” Daniel said, smirking. “We felt like fucking outcasts in there. We didn't belong.” Brittney nodded with understanding. “How did you do it, Brit?” I asked, in confusion. “How else? I went to the source.” She meant Dumbledore.

She actually went to the big cheese himself. Knowing the information, I admired her deeply for that. She was beginning to show her leadership qualities right away and I knew that Daniel would be just the same in a week's time; maybe even shorter. “Come on, guys. Let's get you situated in here. If I'm correct, Dumbledore should have already summoned your clothing and things up in your dorms already.” I walked behind Brittney and Daniel followed. Our other friends were surprised to see us but were happy as well. It seemed that Brittney didn't tell them what happened either. She was very sneaky tonight and it cost us in a good way. We were where we needed to be; in Gryffindor. We weren't evil like Slytfherins. We were Gryffindors, fighters and we were going to prove it in a year's time.

Silver Rain
Having the boys back were okay I guess. It wasn't like I was missing them the way Brittney was. To tell the truth, I really couldn't have given a crap if they were in Slytherin or not. My only reasons for being here was to fight Voldemort's ally and to get myself closer to Harry. This was our first night in our bedrooms and my damp clean body felt great against my velvet bed sheets. I wore a gray tank top and matching shorts to bed and felt so comfortable in them. After making sure my snow white hair was tied up in a ponytail, I took a look over at my companions. Amber and Charity were fast asleep. That was surprising for Amber. In America she would usually be staying up til the wee hours of the morning. Maybe the transformation wiped her out. I glanced over at Brittney, who was combing her very long hair and braiding it. Half of her hair was on her bed and half was hanging to the ground. How she was able to walk with all of that hair, I would never know. I inwardly hoped that she would cut it. She looked over at me and smiled saying. “What's on your mind, Chris?” I could not ignore my pounding heart and knew I had to tell her what I needed to let out.

“Harry is just as cute as I thought he would be, Brit.” I hugged my knees to my chest in glee. Brittney smiled and continued combing through her hair. “The only problem is I don't think he likes me too much.” I sat quietly, thinking about my dilemma and glanced over at Brittney again. She was nodding and after a short while of brushing, put down her brush and came to me. I watched as she got on my bed and sighed. “Maybe…you just need to be yourself.” She said, sincerely. I was taken aback. “I am being myself.” I argued. Brittney scoffed and pulled her robe around her blue nightgown. Her eyes flashed slightly as she frowned,

“You so are not. Ever since we've come to Hogwarts, you've been all over Harry, talking to him in a high phony voice and telling stories about yourself that are not true.”

I looked down in slight shame. I knew she was right and I looked down at my bed as I considered what she was telling me.

“No. That's not you. You've also got to understand, Christian that Harry is also busy trying to find a way to defeat Voldemort. He has his job as the Boy That Lived and we have our job as being Chosen Ones. Harry doesn't have time to waste with little girls who are always trying to get his attention.” I nodded. She was right, as always. As I sat there in silence, Brittney stroked my hair and said, “Just be you. What can go wrong when you are being yourself, huh?” I nodded and smiled softly. Brittney was such a good friend. I hoped that she would always stay the caring and protective person she always was.

Softly, Brittney got off of my bed and went back to hers. I smiled at her and said, “I think about it. Night, Brit.” She started combing her hair again and said, “Good night, Christian. I'll see you in the morning.” I got under my covers and put my head on my pillow. Just be myself. `Just be myself, huh?' I thought. I guess I could give it a try. For Harry's sake.

December Snow
After I finished putting my last plait together, I began to settle down for the night. As I watched Christian finally close her eyes, I curled my knees under me and sighed, looking out the window. Instantly, my mind went to the gray eyes of Draco Malfoy. The beautifulness of them had sealed me to the spot when I had first seen them and the whole aura of just him stunned me. He was powerful, he was bold and shit, quite fine. My Siamese cat, Saybra joined me up on the bed and purred as I stroked her underneath the chin.

But then I glared remembering what he had said to me in the hallway earlier that night that had resulted with his busted ass. “Yeti…yeah, whatever.” I grumbled, getting under the crimson covers. I would give him a yeti alright, if he continued to mess with me. Yawning, I cuddled under the sheets and closed my eyes, awaiting another magic filled day without frozen gray eyes.
